Yumyumyum.. my friend and I shared the pork spring rolls and the fried rice and both were delicious. They can both be pretty hit or miss for me, but the spring rolls were packed full and came with housemade peanut sauce, and the fried rice was flavorful and came with lapchung (my favorite!). Service was great, got our food fast, and the place had good energy. Love that they open late and want to come back for a late night snack and try some of their drinks!

Loveeee this spot. There's not many late night spots open in portland and this place was a decent revolving door on a weeknight at 11pm. Authentic Vietnamese cuisine in their food and drinks. Can't wait to go back and try more food

Shrimp pad thai & crying tiger steak - delivery
    Sarah C.

I ordered delivery from Short Round recently. It was one a few places open late when I was looking. I got the Crying Tiger steak ($13) and pad thai with shrimp ($18). It came fairly quickly, it was packaged well, and everything tasted good. The sauce with the steak was especially great. I wish the shrimp had tails removed, and medium spice seemed more mild. It was just an intro, but it confirmed I would definitely like to stop by their location in person sometime soon!

Pros: late night, free street parking, best flavor and taste for Bò Lá Lốt, solid crispy pork belly. We have been here three times within the last 6-9 months or so and got these two items every time. Definitely recommend these two items. Cons: not much info services, the first two time we had to hard wiped down our outdoor tables and served ourselves. My son had to come back to our car to get wet wipes since the table was layered in who knows what. The last time we were there I couldn't remember exactly but at least we didn't have to wipe down our own table. Restroom: its location gave me anxiety so I had to asked my husband to wait outside for me 2/3 times we were there. It's sandwiched between the kitchen and backside door to the semi lighting parking lot.

Crying Tiger steak was SO GOOD. UGH. GET IT. I forgot to get pictures of the actual food because it was literally inhaled. It was so moist and flavorful. The drinks were also bomb. You order at the bar, service was quick. The space is really cute, I'm obsessed with how they decorated.

First time here and came in around 10pm with my friends. Spacious, bar like vibes. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The food definitely reminded me of home cooked meals. I really liked the wings! Dry rubbed type of gal! The drinks were decent! The udon was also delicious. With a spice level of 3 it was the perfect spice level for me! Will be back to try other things!

Wonderful street food and cocktail vibes.... backlit holes in the dark walls give a delightful ambiance to a Short Round visit. Every time we drop in, we make an attempt to try something different, and I have yet to be disappointed. I've somehow missed out on becoming a wing connousieur, but I'm turning into a big fan of the ones here. So far, we haven't gone wrong with whatever drink special they have, any random Thai dish that sounds interesting, and an order of wings. Short Round is quickly becoming a favorite spot when we're looking for something quick and genuinely tasty. Ordering at the counter and taking a number to your table makes service quick and painless.

The vibe is really good and the drinks are average. The crying tiger, 8/10, which is grilled ribeye, was solid. Well seasoned and tender. I would get this again. Skip the sweet potato fries. They were too salty and sweet with dry rub and not very crispy. Although i like that they are not from a frozen bag. The vermicelli bowl was ok. 4/10. I got it with lemongrass pork. The pork and shrimps were fire, but it lacked variety in vegetables and the egg roll didn't taste like anything. The sauce was also too sour and not very fishy. The wings with fish sauce with spicy basil, 4/10, the sauce tasted good and the meat is good quality, but the wings were too soggy. Maybe they put too much of the sauce or they didn't fry the wings enough?

I came here to celebrate a small birthday and wasn't expecting much, as I had been here years ago and the food was underwhelming back then. Cute and small restaurant/bar with Asian street market vibes. The staff was friendly and patient with us. Most of our party hadn't been here before. The drinks we had were good. We all had the pineapple jalapeño margarita. Majority of us ordered the wings because we kept hearing from our friends they had the best wings and wow, they were right. The tiger wings were amazing. Crispy, crunchy, juicy and the seasoning was so good. I also ordered a rice plate and that was also delicious. Everything was packed with flavor. We will definitely be back again soon for more wings and other items!

Very tasty, open late. Funny how so many pho spots are open later in the day when it's traditionally a breakfast soup. Service is fine, good is good, atmosphere is both dark and bright.

The one nice thing about Door Dash late at night on a weekday is that you can sometimes score free delivery from somewhere not close to home that you might not usually try. I was sick, it was 9:30 and I wanted Pho. Short Round is a bar in Hawthorne (my original Portand hood) that is open late and serves Asian food. Hawthorne has better late night options than my west side neighborhood, just saying. Yay. I got Pho with chicken, my kid chose Pad Pra Kao ( rice, ground pork, fried egg) and we got grilled pork rolls which came with peanut sauce to share. It was all really delicious, it showed up fairly quickly, and our favorite parts were the grilled pork rolls and peanut sauce. We could have easily eaten more of them and would get our own next time. It looks very cool inside and their drink menu is appealing. I think it looks perfect for a date night:)

These wings were delicious! It's nice to see a place in Portland open late and they have good bar seating. Service is good, really good vibe!

The egg noodle bowl on the top with fried chicken and tofu was phenomenal. The chicken was similar to fish sauce wings and the tofu was very caramelized and had a nice salty coating of sauce. An order of spring rolls were also ordered, but wasn't in the photo. It was ordered with crispy pork belly. Based on some reviews, I was skeptical about ordering the pork belly, but I was pleasantly surprised. The skin was very crispy and you could hear the crunch from across the restaurant. The restaurant is very open with big windows, but I liked the concept of the open kitchen look. The service was really good. We ended up ordering pork belly and shrimp for our spring rolls and the worker politely came by and told us they were out of it. He was able to accommodate for it and was very kind about it. I ordered through DoorDash and went with the Vegan Pho and salad rolls. On the positive side, they were generous with the tofu, which is more than I can say for a lot of restaurants. Unfortunately, both dishes seemed to have the same secret ingredient: salt. And then a little more salt. The pho broth was already pretty salty when it arrived, but somehow managed to become even saltier overnight. By breakfast the next morning, I was pretty sure it could have been used to preserve historical artifacts. The salad rolls were packed with tofu, which I appreciated, but whatever marinade was used had enough sodium that my old horse Mika probably would've mistaken it for a salt lick. To be fair, my Pescatarian mom and Omni husband both enjoyed their shrimp rolls, so not everything was a miss. Overall, the food was edible and filling, but the heavy hand with the salt kept me from fully enjoying it.

Downtown Portland's hidden gem for authentic Vietnamese!…read more I was walking around downtown Portland and stumbled upon Cuốn Vietnamese Street Food, and honestly, it was the best meal of my week . If you are looking for fresh, flavorful, and satisfying comfort food, do not walk--run to this spot. To get the full experience, we ordered a variety, and every single item was a hit. We started with the Beef Pho, and the broth was the absolute star. It was rich, aromatic, and deeply savory, clearly simmered for hours. It was the perfect dish on a sunny Portland day. We also grabbed a Chicken Banh Mi. The bread had that perfect crispy crust with a soft, airy crumb, and the chicken was grilled to perfection with fresh veggies and herbs. Of course, we had to wash it all down with a creamy, sweet Thai Tea--it was delicious and the perfect end to the meal. Beyond the food, the vibe is great. It's a super clean, casual spot with big windows letting in lots of natural light. It's set up for quick counter service, which makes it perfect for a fast lunch downtown, but the staff is so friendly and welcoming that you feel right at home. It's a family-run business, and you can taste the passion in the food. Highlights: · The Pho Broth: Seriously some of the best in the city. · The Banh Mi: Fresh bread, great fillings. · The Service: Fast, efficient, and incredibly kind. Pro Tip: Don't forget to grab your own utensils and sauces (the chili crisp is a must for the pho), and help yourself to the free self-serve hot tea. It's the little touches like that which make this place a winner. I am already planning my next trip back to try the Crispy Pork Belly. Highly recommend

Positives: fresh, well made, very flavorful proteins. Cons:…read morePrice I tried Cuon for the first time and enjoyed it. I went for a Vermicelli bowl where you get to pick 2 proteins. I selected Pork Belly (their specialty) and lemongrass chicken. The bowl itself is standard Vietnamese fare, nothing special, creative or exciting in that sense. That said, the ingredients tasted fresh and the proteins were very well seasoned and cooked. The pork belly skin had an awesome crunch and you can clearly taste the lemongrass in the chicken. The included spring roll had nice crunch but little flavor. Unfortunately, outside of Pho, Banh Mi and Noodle Bowls, there's sadly not much else to the menu. No Vietnamese salads, stir frys, etc. Either way, what they do make, they seem to make quite well. So, on to my main issue ie, that for a place thats only open for lunch, the prices are a bit too high. I noted about $16 for a Banh Mi sandwich, no sides. Pho was around $20 and my noodle bowl was about $20 as well. Weirdly, its about the same prices as eating lunch back home in Miami, a FAR more expensive city in general. In fact, I've often had more exciting Vietnamese in Manhattan for lower prices. So while its easy to recommend Cuon on quality, its not a top recommendation for lunch value in the PDX which is why Im docking 1 star.
