I'm almost embarassed it's taken me so long to visit No Name Pho, but I've finally made it here and I'm smitten! I love finding dog-friendly restaurants in Portland, and No Name Pho doesn't get any better with their outdoor seating in a pedestrian-only plaza! What a delightful location! Parking can be a challenge as the street is closed to traffic, however visitors can find space to park on Hawthorne, or in the neighborhood to the north. Once you've parked, plan to stay for a while. This is one of the most exciting neighborhoods in Portland with lots of shops and restuarants to explore! There is plenty of seating inside, as well as lots of options outdoors with picnic tables and cafe tables in front of the restaurant. In fact, the seating spills off the sidewalk into the plaza as well, so summertime is the best time to visit for peak capacity. Patrons order at the counter, then find a seat. The restaurant offers a wide variety of Vietnamese dishes and drinks, with some fun surprises not found at other restaurants in Portland. (I ordered a boiled egg with my pho, which was a first for me!) The restuarant offers several soup options: Vietnamese pho with thinly sliced steak, brisket and meatballs, as well as Tom Yum Pho, and a dish called Trifecta (Chicken, udon noodles, with brisket and shrimp). I ordered the Vietnamese pho. The broth was piping hot, wasn't overly fatty, the noodles had just a slight bite to them, and the dish was very meaty. There was a nice selection of fresh aromatics, and their chili oil was delicious! I very much enjoyed this dish! I'll definitely be returning with my pugs this summer. This is my all time favorite pho place! When I lived in Portland I would go almost every week, I have never tasted a broth as amazing as the yellow curry broth. The staff is always so attentive an friendly, I alway have a nice time in their restaurant. I've also ordered takeout many times before, and enjoyed the yellow curry pho with rice noodles and tofu at home I am vegetarian and it was easy to take friends here with all types of dietary restrictions and all find something that we loved. Probably a 3.5 star in my mind. My husband enjoyed the flavor of his plate Buddha's Delight with tofu and all veggies. I did the build a plate and found the quality of the chicken was good but the flavor was bland. I did like they had Hoisin sauce on the table as I could add some of that for flavor. I also tried one pork skewer and it was ground meat with spices so like a meatball. Not my thing but wanted to share it was more flavorful than the chicken with the honey marinade as I noted too bland. I was impressed with all the live plants around the restaurant that they are good at caring for. It was nice they did help at the front kiosk to put in the order for us since we were dining in and need to leave some items off like peanuts and rice for one dish. I was a bit hesitant to go here because I was worried that it might have been a not-very-authentic place (as someone who is Vietnamese, I really take pride in Viet food), but I was pleasantly surprised! As soon as you come into the establishment, there's a big menu and a counter for you to order at. Once you order, you are then seated, and food is brought out to you. The inside of the restaurant is pretty cute, with nice wall decor and cool ceiling decor. I really liked the ambiance. I also loved the menu and the concepts of building your own bowl or plate. I've never seen a Vietnamese spot do this (except sometimes with meat in pho bowls), so I thought that it was very innovative and nice to allow customers to choose their own proteins, noodles, and broth. Tis a place with no name for sure because the food here was not memorable. Will not be back. But they have amazing decor so it's a good place for a coffee and laptop. You order and pay at the counter. I should not have gone here from the reviews as I'm seeing boiled eggs in pho. I should've known better but I was hungry and it's cold outside. Got the pho, drink and some spring rolls. Pho was super bland and lacked any beef flavor, tastes heavily of msg. Meat was overcooked. They also don't have any water that was offered. Spring rolls on the Yelp page are misleading and show deep fried "rice paper" spring rolls. Yet they served egg rolls (with a wheat and gluten wrapper). This is super dangerous for gluten intolerant humans!! Which means they may cross contaminate in their frying oil. I think this is an ok place for those who have never ever had real pho before, as it's super Americanized and lacks any traditional flavors. But if you're used to the good stuff I can't recommend pho here. The build your own noodle bowl is awesome for an option but since the pho flavor was off I can't say if it would be good! read more

The noodles were perfectly cooked; a little bit of bite. The meatballs were tasty, with a bit of an anise flavor. That's a flavor I don't love, but it was restrained and in good balance here. One thing that is a little odd (and perhaps a COVID relic): as soon as you enter the door, you are confronted by a window where you place your order. Very good pho, some of the best I've had! The broth was so flavorful, it was my favorite part of the dish. The chicken was alright, a little tough & I prefer it to be moist & tender. The Vietnamese pho was delicious, the steak, brisket, & meatballs were cooked perfectly. Vietnamese iced coffee is also a must try. Service was great, we didn't wait long for our meal. Lackluster pho which was far too pricey. Not sure why things like tendon or tripe wouldn't be offered as it's a cornerstone of good pho. Further, it was quite evident that the broth had not been in process for any length of time. A key to robust and flavorful pho is broth must take a minimum of 24-48 hours. Excellent Vietnamese spot! Came across this place on yelp while in the area and decided to stop for lunch. I ordered the grilled pork Bahn mi. It was good. Sandwich came with sweet potato fries and salad. The salad had a delicious light dressing on it. Grilled pork was lean and tasty. My boyfriend ordered the Tom yum pho with chicken - that was delicious!! The broth was so flavorful and light. Hoisin as the sauce was a weird choice for sauce and the grilled pork is nice but it's in house sausage with some nice flavor but not what I would expect from a banh mi but the lack of heat and acid was surprising. No peppers in the sandwich but in the salad. The veggies didn't bring the vinegar bite I would expect. I got the vegan cream cheese wontons too. They were cooked well and fresh. I also had the thai tea and same thing. It was good, but not amazing. I will say it did hit the spot on a cool, cloudy day. During a recent visit I opted for the Vietnamese pho (beef broth, rice noodes, thinly sliced beef, brisket, and meatballs topped with onions, scallions, and cilantro) while Dan went for the build-a-bowl (choice of broth, noodles, and two meats or shrimp or tofu). Both bowls were very good. Nice clear flavor in the broth. Ample servings of noodles and meat. Altogether very satisfying. Since the Vietnamese pho was a dollar more expensive, likely due to the inclusion of the meatballs, I'll probably go the build-a-bowl route the next time I stop by.
