Dropped into this spot fill a craving I had for grilled oysters. It was the middle of the week at night, so they were not busy and we got seat quickly. The environment reminds me a dive bar by the water, not fine dining. Pia served us promptly with our drinks, gave her suggestions on the menu pointing out her favorites, and took our appetizer order. We started with a dozen of the chargrilled oysters. They were served with a few pieces of baguette bread and lemon. It took a little while for them to come out, but when they hit the table, they were the garlicky, buttery goodness I was anticipating. As soon as we entered we were greeted so warmly by the hostess. We were seated quickly as well. We started off with raw oysters of course. They were a lot larger than the oysters I'm used to back in Maryland but the taste was similar. They were nice and fresh, a little gritty, but that comes with the territory sometimes. We also got the fried alligator and it was so much better than the fried alligator that we had at Mulate's. It's was fresh and crispy. The sauce that it came with was good too, but I'm always gonna go for the Louisiana hot sauce. We also both got a cup of seafood gumbo. It had the perfect dollop of rice in the middle. I have visited this bar/grill many years ago and it left a great impression that I had to come back but this time with my daughter. We were not disappointed. We were in town for the Sugar Bowl, #HottyToddy, and were just staying down the road so we decided to grab a bite before the game. We split the oysters, The daughter had the salad and I the fish dinner thinking she would want more. I was so wrong! The oysters came out and they were seasoned to perfection slightly grilled, covered in Parmesan, garlic and butter, we could have eaten a couple dozen they were so good and as I remember. The daughter's salad was HUGE! With a lot of large grilled shrimp, she couldn't finish the entire plate but said it was the best she had ever had. The fried fish came out with 3 large fillets lightly battered with hush puppies and sweet potato fries. The fish was perfect! I could only finish two of the filets. I didn't have the grilled oysters , maybe that's the dish helping the reviews stay high. I Had the bland gumbo and the bland etouffe. I don't understand how it was made . Terrible wouldn't recommend , there are way better places in the city. I won't be trying this place again especially after mentioning it and 3 of my coworkers telling me various times they went and felt the same . I didn't get a photo of the fish platter but he was surprised by how little food it was. He's a local & suggested this place. Lunch on a Monday with SIL. Arrived not long after they opened and it was already filling up. Seated immediately and drink order was taken ASAP. Ordered 1/2 doz chargrilled oysters and the meat pies. For some reason I did not realized the meat pies had ground beef in them; I remembered a different flavor profile. They were good but won't order them again; too many other choices. Chargrilled oysters, on the other hand, is now on my SIL's list of top fav foods. I usually eat mine raw, but these were not too salted and not overcooked. Good job, ACME! SIL ordered the 1/2 shrimp po boy, which was on her hit list of foods for the trip and I had the 1/2 hot sausage patty po boy. Both of us had the jambalaya, which was tasty but not overpowering. Her po boy was loaded with shrimp and I had her try my po boy, since she had never heard of the hot sausage. It was a winner with her as well! We had leftovers, of course. Came here directly from the airport. Had INCREDIBLE oysters - plump, meaty, slightly sweet with their well balanced cocktail sauce. Varying sizes, some huge others small, but all very tasty! I visited this location of Acme during a client lunch. We received average service and most everyone seemed to like their food. We tried the boom boom shrimp and fried oyster remoulade as apps. I liked the fried oysters the best. Actually the remoulade sauce is what makes this great. For my meal, I had the 1/2 dozen chargrilled oysters, and red beans and rice plate and chose fried fish with that. Little did I know the fried fish was tilapia, which I would have ordered another dish if I knew that because I was wanting catfish. We went to this location because the one in the French Quarter, of course was packed during Mardi Gras. They don't have many options when it comes to char grilled oysters however, the ones that we got were good not great but good being in New Orleans is probably would not be one of my first choices however, if you're looking for convenience and speed I will check this place out. You can get a basic chargrilled OYSTER with Parmesan and butter, and be satisfied. It's pretty loud but it's that type of place anyway. Had a taste for oysters yesterday so I decided to go to acme. There wasn't a wait and I was seated quickly. I decided to get the half dozen chargrilled oysters and the crab cake appetizer. It didn't take long for them to come out. Oysters were good and I enjoyed the crab cake. After bringing my food, my waiter never came back to check on me. Usually waiters will check in to make sure you have everything you need and refill your drink. That never happened. I finished my food and still had to wait 15 mins before he came to my table. He only came after I asked a waitress if she could get him (so who knows how long I would've been waiting) . I decided to get the grilled shrimp platter as I was still hungry, but got it to go as I didn't want to spend any more time in the restaurant. I got veggies instead of sweet potato fries which is what usually comes with the platter. I wouldn't get the platter again as it was a dish that did not work together. I have never had grilled shrimp like that before. It didn't have the grill smoky taste and was drowning in some sauce. Veggies didn't have much seasoning and neither did the onions and mushrooms. If I ever go back I'll just focus on the chargrilled oysters and fried seafood. read more

Y'all may have heard how much I love this ACME location. No? Lemme tell ya! I've been coming here for over 20 years and have yet to have a bad experience. Heck, I've yet to have a mediocre or just ok experience! Most recently, some long-time friends and I came here for dinner and they were just as impressed as I, but maybe for different reasons. I'm telling you, I've had fried seafood at this restaurant probably 15 times and never once was it not perfect. Always hot and fresh, perfectly crispy, and never once has the oil tasted like it was anywhere close to needing a change. A good restaurant has good food, but great restaurants deliver good food every time - this ACME is a GREAT restaurant. We've come just for oysters, racking up an impressive 10 dozen on occasion, stopped in for a beer and some gumbo, or just came by to enjoy some fried shrimp on a Friday afternoon - every time I'm here, there's smiles, laughter, great smells and terrific food. If you're in from out of town and looking for some amazing food, let me recommend a dozen char-grilled oysters and a bowl of seafood gumbo.
