Best crawfish experience in ages. Deanie's is one of those spots that holds sentimental memories for me. My dad took me here as a kid and I remember it like it was yesterday. So when I was able to bring my oldest here, and make new memories, it was very meaningful to me. Let me set the scene. It was lent on a Friday. Everyone in the area knows that those are the busiest days to eat seafood in the state. But my oldest had just finished a grad school interview in Nola and crawfish seemed like a great way to celebrate. The memory of eating at Deanie's came to me and off we went. We arrived around 12:30 and the place was packed. I would estimate we waited around 30-40 minutes but we spent it chatting and people watching. Once seated we were treated to the Deanie's unique touch. Instead of crackers or bread, they bring boiled potatoes to the table. They were as delicious as I remembered them. I wish more restaurants would do this. Crawfish was only available in two pound orders that at the day we viisted was $15.95 and came with a half ear of boiled corn. We ordered three of those and went to town. The crawfish were perfectly seasoned to me (full of flavor with a nice level of heat), large, and clean. Without a doubt, they were the best crawfish I have had in several years. Everyone has their preference of places, but Deanie's is now my gold standard. I am salivating as I write this. Deanie's Seafood is one favorite spot for Sophia and me going back to when we lived in the New Orleans area. I'm sure I'm repeating myself, but every time we ate, we always took a to-go box home. When it comes to Louisiana seafood, you cannot go small and you'll be satisfied during each visit. And this one was no different when we were in Louisiana visiting our respective families for Christmas. When we arrived on Sunday afternoon, it was full where we waited for almost 30 minutes. It was totally fine since I was watching the Saints play the Titans (they won by the way going undefeated for December). The bar was spotless and clean while we waited for our table, which was no rush at all. Once we were seated, it took us no time to select our meal. We chose their half seafood platter which consisted of fried catfish, fried oysters, crawfish balls and one soft shell crab along with french fries and hush puppies. Everything on the plate was very good. When it comes to New Orleans style food (my umpteenth time saying this), they did not disappoint. All was well seasoned and well prepared. We came in a little late on a week night. Everything we ordered had great flavor. The appetizers were a steal in price almost half of what they'd charge at a downtown restaurant for the same amount of food. The stuffed mushroom filling had a lot of crab. The entrees were enormous as well for the price. Our server was very sweet and when the wrong shrimp app came out she corrected it immediately. All of the food came out hot and fresh. I'd like to go back to try their desserts but we couldn't fit another bite. The half platter also came with a huge filet of catfish and a plate of fries not shown. Really enjoyed my meal here. I ordered a cup of chicken & shrimp gumbo with an order of friend shrimp. Before our meal came out, we received a plate of the most delicious red potatoes. I'm used to bread being served before the meal comes, but Deanie's may be on to something with these potatoes! They were deliciously seasoned and cooked perfectly. It didn't take long for our order to come out and everything was fresh and hot. Our waitress was very friendly and answered any questions that we had. My only complaint was that I wish we had been informed of the 20% charge for splitting the check. We've been coming to New Orleans for years, and Deanie's is always a must-stop on every visit. Their char-broiled oysters are, hands down, the best we've ever had anywhere. We usually go to the French Quarter location, but on this trip we decided to try the Metairie location--and unfortunately, it was a disappointment. It wasn't even 6:00 p.m. on a Tuesday, and they were already out of oysters. We ended up ordering the catfish, which was absolutely amazing, and our server, Christina, was fantastic. Ms.Felicia was the Greatest! She met us with a warm smile, was friendly and made our party of 9 feel right at home. She took our orders and not once did she forget anything we ordered. Justine was a joy from the very beginning, he was so welcoming, smiling, and socializing with us, he was so friendly. Deanie's catered the Rummel class of 85 reunion last weekend and I was very impressed. The setup was seamless and the caterers were very professional. The food was deliciousĺ. I have never had such tasty New Olreans classics as their Crawfish Etoufee and jambalaya. The etouffee was packed with crawfish and the roux was out of this world. The jambalaya had a lot of chopped seasoning that gave it such a great taste whi h was so different from the usual dry bland versions that many restaurants offer. As long as I get my oysters lol That was my mission while I was here. Eat as many oysters as I can. For the table we ordered the following: Boiled potatoes with butter on the side. Two trays of charbroiled oysters- BBQ charbroiled oysters and the charbroiled oyster with crab on top. 6 boiled crabs- Side note this is when I learned how to break them apart. Pretty cool! I ordered the catfish platter. This platter could be for three people! There was so much I took it home and ate it on the plane. My boyfriend ordered the Barbeque shrimp. The portion of food on his plate was huge. He tore it up! My boyfriends god mother ordered the combo platter. This came with shrimp, oysters and catfish. I should have ordered this. The oysters were delicious. Everything we ordered was amazing! My family ate at Deanie's Seafood in Bucktown today. We had 2 giant seafood platters that were cooked to perfection. We also had onion rings that were wonderfully seasoned with tender juicy onions. Today we tried the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer. They were delicious. We also had the best server I've ever had at Deanie's and for that matter, anywhere. This servers name is Felicia, and if you go to Deanie's, you should definitely ask for her. We never had to ask for drink refills, extra napkins, tartar sauce, or cocktail sauce. Deanie's Seafood has consistently gotten better over the years. Their menu has improved substantially along with the flavors of their food. This isn't my favorite spot to get boiled seafood as often they seem to overcook their boiled shrimp which is an unfortunate trend many seafood joints seem to have in common these days. Deanie's has always done a great job with their fried seafood options and their fried seafood platters have always been fantastic things. Their broiled and fried fish options are typically nice choices here. Their specials and sides have also really improved over the years so that you have a really nice selection of different items not many other places offer these days. There are also not many places in this area that do as much volume as Deanie's does so they usually get their food out really fast! Everything here is decent to fantastic for the most part and there are certainly more and more places that do far worse food while there are fewer and fewer places that make authentic New Orleans Creole food like they do at Deanie's. Overall this is a place you can bring a big group and they will likely have something that most folks can eat. The biggest area for improvement is their boiled shrimp as so far it has been 100% frustratingly overcooked EVERY time I have ordered it so now I've given up on even trying to order the boiled shrimp again until I hear it is being prepared better. Their cuisine has been a favorite since my teen years, the giant seafood platter, crawfish balls, seafood gumbo & the red potatoes. Fast forward to my mid 30s & married, wife absolutely LOVES them! They fill those styrofoam containers to the brim! This place is no frills so expect a few health code violations somewhere lol. Warm, engaging, confident, and next-level observant, Felicia has a way of making everyone feel cared for. While I was debating what to order to cover our daughter without ending up buried in leftovers, she swooped in with the perfect suggestion -- reading my mind before I even asked. Later, when an older woman nearby began coughing, Felicia appeared in seconds to help her, before her own tablemates even moved. With a big family across the room whose boys were getting a little too rambunctious, she gently set things right without skipping a beat. And when it came time to pay, before he could mention it she asked my husband, "military discount?" -- she'd simply picked up on it from the way he spoke, and she was spot on.
