I'm very disappointed to say that I was not impressed at all. I'm not one to criticize or feel responsible to write a review but in this case I felt the need. I live in the neighborhood of shorters new location, both my husband and I were excited to try some good bbq and possibly a new favorite place. We stopped by just for a quick bite and it was definitely not that. We decided on pulled pork nachos expecting some wow but all we got was a 40 minute wait and ALOT of chips with some basic nacho cheese and maybe a cup of pulled pork slapped on top. Arrived for the 1st time ever after seeing at quick glance the star rating this place had. Got inside and immediatley felt like this place was a bit unsanitary, was greeted and took a look at the menu, afterwards i noticed the staff was not wearing gloves and their aprons were filthy and hands were greasy and glistend in the light.. Buddy and i decided to go with a beef brisket sandwich and pulled pork sandwich with a side order of fries. Sat down and waited for about 5 minutes and the food was ready. Got up, paid then proceeded to observe my food. My beef brisket looked old and when i took a small bite it was cold. The only thing warm/hot was the bbq sauce poured over the meat. My buddy took 2 bites and then gave me a disgusted look. Before he could tell me why after he somehow managed to swallow i told him this meat tasted like pure lighter fluid which i could not shake from my mouth after the small nibble i took from the meat. This is, hands down, my favorite place to eat in Tracy. The most chill staff in town who make you feel at home instantly. I can't think of why anyone would eat anywhere else in Tracy. We were headed up the 5 freeway and yelped BBQ in Tracy as that was the next town we were going to pass through. We decide to make the 10 minute drive from the 5 into Tracy and boy are we glad we did. This place is exactly what I hope to find when using yelp. It is not ordinary and great food. I live in downtown Tracy and can sometimes smell this place when I step outside my door...smells so good and the food is good but I have not tried the tri-tip I keep reading about. The chicken is juicy, brisket melts in my mouth, ribs are good and the hot link is HOT! The BBQ spaghetti is really different but good and the french fries are really good. The only thing...and I feel so bad to say because the employees are so nice but I feel like the place is a little well...dusty? They could really use some updating and a little more cleaning inside... but their food is still delicious...I just get it to-go! read more

Hubby and I were searching for BBQ and this came up. After reading the reviews, we gave it a shot. A previous reviewer said that it was in the ghetto, NOT! After looking at the menu, one thing caught my eye, bbq spaghetti and links. To my disappointment, they were out of the spaghetti. So we ordered a 2 way with links and tri tip, mac n cheese and potato salad sides. The portions were so large that we could barely finish it. Links - great and spicy, tri tip - great and juicy, mac n cheese, very good and cheesy, potato salad, just ok. Hubby got the peach cobbler, but it was too much dough for his taste. Horrible service. I'm only giving it one star because it wouldn't give me the option to give it no stars. I ordered fish and chips and received catfish and coleslaw so when I brought it back and asked where the fries were it started an argument over whether it came with fries or not. He then started to tell me that I need to order the fries separate. I said I ordered fish AND chips which would be fish AND french fries. Instead of making the order right he argued with me then proceeded to refund my money. what a horrible place. read more

There are not many places in Tracy I frequent. In all honesty, a Lunchable seems more appealing than 80% of what this town has to offer, but Shorter's is one of the few true gems. When I say a place has good BBQ, I mean it. I live in Texas, where everyone thinks they're a BBQ master. Shorter's knows what they are doing. Their tri-tip is *almost* as good as my dad's, which means it is freaking awesome. Forget Famous Dave's and all of that chain restaurant garbage. This place puts out a quality product at an awesome price. The review from the tool talking about how his company won't let him order lunches from here due to their political preference was the funniest/saddest thing I have ever read on YELP. Like everybody else I love this Shorters!!!! As soon as you walk up to the place you can smell the magic happening at their outside BBQ (its behind a fence, but the aroma is inescapable). I have to be honest, the tables can feel a little sticky, but its a bbq place. If you are looking for something fancy this is NOT the place for you. Yes, the decor is severely limited, but Shorters is all about the food. In fact, their food is so good I gave them 5 stars despite the decor. I think their food is really cheap too(considering the price for bbq these days) especially the lunch specials. Their ribs are the best I have ever had, and their tri-tip puts their competition to shame (Kinders). However, I must tell you to order the fried CAT FISH!! It is soooooo good!! If you like spicy bbq sauce they have that too, and it is great on their hot links. Their pulled pork sandwich isn't on the menu, but also one of the best things they have. They even have good french fries that always come out hot and crispy. I have tried almost every item on their menu at one time or another. If you go on Fridays they have gumbo that is really good. Seriously, you need to try this place if you have even a small desire for bbq, you will never go anywhere else. oops, I almost forgot to rave about their bbq sauce. simply put it is the best texas style sauce I have ever tasted. Oh man. Where do I start..... First off. I love BBQ... and this place... oh man!! speechless. Hospitality was good. I like the home feel atmosphere as well.
