I was visiting a friend today and decided to go get some chow. Who else to turn to but Yelp to find a place for an out of towner to get some grub. This place seemed promising and it was. The customer service was great. Very friendly and inviting to say the least. The food was fabulous. Meat literally fell off the bone. Shorter's catered my daughter's wedding last month and we couldn't have been happier with them. David and Donelle Shorter are well known for their great BBQ. What is perhaps not as well known is that their son DJ Shorter is culinary trained and he is a fabulous chef. Chef DJ worked with us to create a menu that was beautiful to look at and also delicious. The appetizers included Pan Seared Shrimp with Fresh Fruit Salsa, Stuffed Mini Bell Peppers and Pork Tenderloin Sliders. The Chicken Picatta and Prime Rib served at dinner were cooked perfectly and delicious. I also found the Shorter family to be easy to work with. When planning the wedding, whatever changes we needed to make with the menu or the rental items was never a problem. Their pricing is also extremely competitive. Chef DJ Shorter, Donelle and David Shorter and their catering staff are friendly and professional. I wouldn't hesitate to use their catering sevices again. read more

The best BBQ I've tasted! It's been hard trying to find a BBQ place around here, but definitely worth the time to drive out to Tracy and eat here! The staff is so friendly and their prices aren't bad at all! My boyfriend had the two meat combo with tri-tip and links and he had spaghetti and potato salad and baked beans. He loved it all!!! And their portions are big so you definitely get a take-home box. I had the brisket and it was really tender and juicy. But it was really good. It's definitely a hole-in-the-wall type place but don't let the appearance fool you! The food is amazing!!! I read few reviews on Shorter's and we were looking for someplace to eat, so we decided to give it a try. The BBQ was good, (not great), very smokey, good flavor. (I came up on Flint's BBQ, so I might be jaded). I would of given it a higher rating, but we ordered the 3 way combo, thinking this would be more than enough for two people and it was barely enough for myself, and at 27.00 with a drink, thats way too much. read more

Believe it or not, I had them cater my wedding a few years ago and man did they do an awesome job. i had the fish and chips and it was very good, my husband also liked his meat platter. the only thing is they said they had churro donuts on a sign on the wall but they didn't, take the sign down then! the waitress was a little out of it as well. im giving a 4 due to those 2 issues but I will try it again sometime. read more

The side dishes were tiny...like teeennnyy tiny. The sides were alright, but overpriced for the size. The brisket was the best. The chicken was mostly bones......wish they had an option to purchase the breast at a higher price, if that is what it would take to get some chicken. The ribs were just alright. read more

Ordered a mac ribs and greens plate first time here. Only thing i really dug into was the greens even tho they werent cooked fully. Mac was basic and had been sitting. Ribs tasted like fuel. While the food might taste really good, the fat from the meat floats on top of the barbecue sauce. I really hate giving these folks a bad review as you'd not want to meet a nicer family but after eating their food my family suffered three days and more of beating a path to the bathroom. We were on our way to eat at Foster's Freeze when we passed this spot. After seeing the great reviews and photos we gave it a try. My wife got the Tri tip combo I got the Brisket combo. The portions were perfect and the meat was tender, full of smoky goodness. If you love BBQ this is the top spot in Tracy. Family owned which is even better. I am coming back for sure! read more

We just tried Shorters Rib Pit for the first time , and they were soooo good ! The ribs were so tender and BBq sauce was smokey and tangy . Plus there Tri tip and Chicken my husband says is the he hyas ever had and the Beans and rice so unique and just the right spice . Luckily we flew in to Stockton and drove to San Jose for a family trip. We were craving Bbq and decided to exit and check yelp, we stopped here because of the reviews. We were so glad we did. Wife and I split the 2 meat combo, ribs and tri tip. All the sides we tried were great , the meat was delicious , and the sauce was amazing. Exactly what we needed. 1st time to Shorters. I had the BBQ ribs. Very nice. Meaty ribs and the sauce is cooked into the meat and not an overly sweet sauce. Meat was not over cooked and dry. Nice portions. The negative is the wait time. We were told 15 minutes well we waited more like 45 minutes. Large parking lot but on a Friday night it was quite crowded. Restaurant is a part of a bowling ally. One of the best BBQ I have ever had! This place is amazing! It is a must to stop here! You won't regret it! I went twice it was so good! They have too many sides to choose from but I suggest the greens, yams, and Mac and cheese! I had the chicken and the pulled pork both of which were amazing! Shorters BBQ sauce ins me on its on. It's not fancy. The restaurant is adjacent to the local bowling alley. The BBQ is set up in the parking lot with a full kitchen inside. Menu is posted on the wall and on paper to-go sheets. You order at the register. We were traveling so we had ours to eat in. My husband had the three way combo - ribs, pulled pork, and brisket - with two sides: red beans n rice and coleslaw. I ordered the brisket dinner with the red beans and the spicy BBQ spaghetti. We are BBQ lovers and are always looking for the BEST, next to homemade. Well, we found it at Shorter's. The BBQ sauce was a perfect blend of vinegar and sweet. The portion sizes were huge. We could have easily shared a plate, but now we'll be having a nice lunch tomorrow. Surprisingly, for a Friday evening, they were slow. The owner Dave started a conversation with us and soon made us honorary family. BBQ sauce flavor finds harmony bw being bold, tangy, n not overpoweringly spicy (I say this as a person who would normally prefer food spicier than not). everything I've had has been great, which includes the chicken, tri-tip, and pork RIBS. SIDES: Mac n cheese creamy n heavy; green beans r excellent n have an original flavor (the fries do as well, but "fries r fries"); the spicy spaghetti I like personally but understand y one would critique it as basically "spaghetti noodles mixed in w the BBQ sauce" (but, hey, the spaghetti is an excuse to almost eat the BBQ sauce straight outta the bottle w a spoon w/o feeling too guilty). for DESSERT, I would definitely try the peach cobbler (ask them to warm it up or do it urself at home). SERVICE: So nice. So helpful. Very friendly. They want you to come back again! One note: I would order a little less than they recommend for your party haha.
