We we traveling through Amarillo from Washington State and suddenly heard a grinding noise. A person told us to go to Shorty's Bear and have them check it out. They were 15 minutes until closing and helped us out anyway. Turns out one of the break pads had come loose. Thank G we didn't travel but a couple miles with it that way. The 2 gentlemen there had pads in stock for our rig and replaced it right away. Charged us a very fair price!! I can't say enough about how lucky we were to have been given this place to go to. DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO SHORTY BEARS !! If you are looking for a reliable, honest, knowledgeable mechanic shop THIS IS NOT IT!!! When I dropped my vehicle off it was a Sunday, I spoke to the owner he mentioned they wouldn't be able to get to my car till Tuesday which was fine I understood. Then the week passed & they still hadn't got to it. Since my car was my only means of transportation & I was using a loaner car I called the shop quite often to get updates on my car. All of the times I spoke with Ron who would chuckle on the phone as if it was just funny to him that I was in desperate need of my car back. Each time I called it was they were either waiting on a part or trying to "figure" out what the issue was or they stopped working on my car to tend to another. I remained patient and understanding through this whole process. Finally Ron stated it was something to do with my "computer" & after 3 weeks nearly a month they called to say it was ready & "running" but that I might need to rebuild my entire transmission in a few months. When I got my car I was so shocked to find out that wasn't the case at all. They charged me 2000 dollars for a bill with less than 200$ in parts!! Of which none were the "computer " he kept mentioning- 2000 dollars to not even fix my car properly. When I picked it up it was still having the same problem it did when I left it. Shifting hard and running high RPM's. So right after I took it to Ford. At Ford I found out it wasn't my transmission at all but a simple cat hose that was COMPLETELY UNATTACHED! So that means shorty bears "worked" on my car for nearly a month & NEVER saw a hose that was completely unattached. RIDICULOUS. An unattached hose that cost me 78$ at Ford. 78$ after paying 2000$ for not even repairing my vehicle. This shop is a joke. & I ended up paying for lack of knowledge. A high price I'd say. Please heed my warning. Stay away from this shop & tell everyone you know to do the same. I would hate for someone else to be robbed like I was. I feel they took complete advantage of me & would do it again if they could. Like telling me I would need to rebuild my transmission!! After taking it to Ford & reattaching the cat hose which goes to the radiator, my car was running PERFECT. This place should be ashamed & I will make sure to let everyone know. Also, I have attached the picture of the unattached hose that I received from the Ford technician so that people can clearly see how a "mechanic" at shorty bears missed such an obvious detail. Warning do not give this ripoff joint business. They have always been around so I thought they'd be honest and reliable. They said my car needed a certain computer sensor,which was correct. They quoted me a price of around $1300 for replacement and installation. I declined as the blue book of the car was only $1500. I did some research,found the sensor on eBay for $30 used and ordered it. I'm by no means a mechanic but I replaced it myself in 10 minutes and it worked perfectly. Not sure what the price was for the sensor new but I recall most of the $1300 estimate from "Short-cheater bears"was to be for labor. I know mechanics are paid well but it took me 10 min to install-whereas they insinuated it was a very complicated and time consuming job. They probably make a killing taking advantage of the elderly and the naive. Let these thieves go broke so they can disappear they are the worst read more

While traveling from CA to MI to get to back to help with sick family, we had the worst possible timing for a breakdown. We limped into Amarillo and took refuge in the Cracker Barrel lot to find a mechanic as soon as possible. Good Sam and Camping World were of no assistance nor was our AAA or State Farm. Literally stranded with everyone telling us parts are hard to find and good luck. A few shops did ultimately call back to offer help but the first were the team at Shorty's Bear Safety Service and off we went...at 5 mph to find them. They were thankfully only a mile away and saw us immediately. They correctly diagnosed the breakdown from my description alone in seconds, verified only a short time later after inspection. Now if you own a motorhome then you know how hard some of the parts can truly be to find, and these were in fact no exception. The shop found the only 4 that either of us could find in day one. As the inspection went deeper, we realized we would need a lot more than 4 of the needed bushings. With nothing else to do, we asked if we could help. Not wanting to come off as untrusting or impatient, as they were really trying, we figured the more help the better and they agreed. They even brought me one of the bad parts and the shops caliper to measure it for accuracy and off we went to The Big Texan Steakhouse (yum btw) to make calls of our own. We actually found a shop in MI that had some (thx to the okd part and caliper to measure), called the shop, and the the rest of this chapter is yet to be written....parts are on the way! We wanted to write the review now because there's some things happening that should be known about this shop that you won't find in other reviews: 1. They showed compassion. We explained how sick our family truly is and every member of this shop was trying to help. They offered us a spot on their lot to park and allowed us use of their shore power, so we could stay plugged in and not lose all our food! 2. They even allowed us to stay in the motorhome if we chose, and we did for as long as our tanks would allow. Nothing special about a parking lot but when your upset, exhausted, and feeling helpless, small acts of compassion go a long way! 3. When we realized it would be a few more days, the owner came to check on us, he offered use of their dumpster, restrooms, and even brought a very cool collectible Snap On car for my 6 year old to enjoy. Class. Where else where you read a review from a family that LIVED in the parking lot of their repair shop for a few days! You do pick up on a lot in that time and what we saw made us very happy we found them. Dozens of stranded travelers like us came by both local and from afar. They took the time to help them all. Parts or not, they won't screw you over and they WILL be honest with you whether it's what you want to hear or not. They are all business during the day. It's heads down and constant work and they work long hours. Despite not being open on the weekends, they are still working on the weeks jobs trying to meet every deadline they can. They have a vast network of resources and clearly respected by their peers. If you're an RV owner, we saw 4 others come through while we were there and all left happy. So we are having one of those trips that you wish didn't happen the way it has gone down but if we are ever to break down again, we hope to find the same level of honesty, integrity and kindness that we did here in Amarillo. I am a single woman who knows little about automobiles. With no close male relative to help me choose a good used car, I could be a sitting duck for irreputable used car dealers. But I'm not, thanks to Danny and his team over at Shorty Bears. Recently in the market for another vehicle, I found what I thought was a good buy. The owner, a gm mechanic said the van was sound, and it appeared to be so on my test drive. I had a friend with me and we both checked it out as much as we are able. I told the dealer I needed one more test drive to Shorty Bears. Danny drove the vehicle himself and he and his team checked it very thoroughly. Thirty minutes and $52 later I knew everything that was wrong with the van and did not purchase it. When I returned it to the lot and showed the dealer the repair estimate Danny had provided, the dealer/mechanic crawled under the van and when he came back out, he said "Yes, he's right, he found what I missed" Best $52 I ever spent, and I was really impressed with the diagnostic equipment Danny uses. To top it off, I really felt like Danny and his crew cared about whether I was in a good, safe vehicle and that meant a lot. read more

I called Shortys on a recommendation from someone who said they were reliable and have been in business for many years. When I called on a Thursday they said the soonest they could get me in would be Tuesday, they suggested I make an appointment and come in between 8:00-9:00 am. I arrived at 8:15 on Tuesday and there was only one vehicle already there. I wanted 3 things done, I had a squeaking which I assumed was my brake sensor and a vibration which the gal suggested was probably tires out of balance. I also needed an oil change. They suggested I leave it because it would take half a day. I waited in their waiting room for my husband to come pick me up for about 30 minutes. When I came out of the waiting room, my truck was still outside and they had 4 other vehicles inside the shop working on them. None of which were there when I arrived. We left and they said they would call me once they checked everything out and tell me the cost before they did anything. So, we left to do errands in town. 11:30 rolls around, no phone call, 12:30 rolls around, no phone call, 1:30 I call them and am told they are working on it, I asked what they were working on since I had not received a call and was told the oil change. Their intent was to do the oil change then do the brake inspection, 5 hours later and they haven't even looked at the problem issues. I decided the only way to speed this along was to go back to the shop to see what was going on. We arrived at 1:45 and my truck was outside, no one doing anything, no workers in the shop and one vehicle up on the rack. (Those other cars that came in after me, were obviously done and gone). I decided at that point to just pay for the oil change and be on my way. $85 later I left. I use synthetic oil so I typically pay a little more than a usual oil change, but $85!!. They also left oily finger prints on my hood. Maybe it was my California license plate that triggered this poor service and price gouging, who knows. (I pay my mechanic at home $60 for an oil change). What I do know is I will never use these guys again and wont be recommending it to any of my relatives who live in and around Amarillo. read more

Just moved down here and needed my car inspected, my plate removed because it was rusted on, etc. They only charged me $7.00 for everything. I didn't need an appointment. They told me to just come in and I told them I would be back. They told me to hold on and that they would be done in about 10-15 minutes and they were. The owner named Danny came up to me and said I didn't owe anything for the extra work of getting my plate off, etc. These people so far are straight up and honest and looking forward to being their customer in the future. read more

These mechanics have no clue what they're doing. The AC quit working in the truck. It kept going back to blowing hot air when it was supposed to blow cold. Had to take it back to them 3 times. After the 3rd time, the AC/heating system was working for a few months. Then it started blowing nothing but hot air again. Then my husband decided to troubleshoot it. He found the blend door actuator had been installed broken and incorrectly. We do NOT recommend ever using this company to fix your vehicle. read more

I was having issues with my truck. When I thought it was one thing, they said it would be best to start off with a smaller/less expensive fix, and they were correct. I spent less money than I planned on, thanks to their advice, and my truck is running better than ever. Most frustrating part of it is, they corrected an error that one of the "big box store" guys made with less sophisticated equipment. I have always heard good things about Shorty's, but I was very disappointed with my experience. My father took my '06 WRX 5MT in for an evaluation on a suspension issue that I was having. I made an appointment days before by phone and scheduled it to just be there for an evaluation. A four wheel alignment was done without my knowledge or approval, which got me a $114 bill. Shorty's claimed my father told them to perform the four wheel alignment. That statement is completely false, and my father told them to proceed according to my instructions given previously by phone. Never did he instruct them to perform the alignment. On a phone call before picking up my car, an employee told me that they ASSUMED I wanted the alignment. Trying to blame my father was very professional. Disappointed and irritated, I paid the bill without argument and left. It doesn't stop there. My car was taken to Shorty's with the clutch in good working condition, yet while driving it home the clutch was slipping so badly I could barely get the car moving. Between dropping my car off at Shorty's, and picking it up a day later, the clutch was burned down to nothing. I called the owner to discuss what may have happened and he offered no explanation and zero assistance. So I went from needing an evaluation on a specific suspension issue, to paying $114 for an alignment that I didn't approve, to now needing a clutch replacement that will set me back at least $1,000. I wish my experience was different, but I am very disappointed in the service provided. Never again will I patronize Shorty Bear's shop. read more

We were going to need to leave our RV in Amarillo for a couple of week to get some Winnebago Service. We asked Sisemore who would be able to do an oil change the morning that we were scheduled to turn our RV in (we were on a very tight schedule due to an Insurance claim and meeting the adjuster). Sure enough, we called Shorty's and they were able to get us in right at opening and got our RV in and out in an hour. Everyone was very friendly, very professional, giving us a smile and great service. Thanks for the quick service. We'll definitely be back and recommend that if you need a service that Shorty's provides, go and visit them. Well worth the trip. read more
