Loved this place. Great waiter, Tony. He was very accommodating when i asked to replace asparagus with Mango in one of their special rolls. I will definitely be back when in the area.

There was no one here at 4pm on a Saturday and I was hungry and saw that the menu had a great variety of sushi and fried rice platters of different meats. They got squid fried rice too! Decided to get a sashimi platter dinner, which includes salad and soup. The salad dressing is the bomb and I cleaned it off. The soup was not as salty as I thought it would be. When the platter came out, the sashimi was paired with broccoli, baby corn, and carrots. The sashimi was pretty good though. The vegetables on the side weren't that great and were very raw. Not cooked well. Had to take the fried rice to go because I couldn't finish it.

Solid sushi spot in Great Neck! It's not a huge space so it's something to be aware of if dining in. However, no issues with the space that they have. I ordered the 1980's (salmon with avocado with tuna and with some more salmon and avocado), Captain Jack (an eel based roll), and Good Call (a crunchy tuna sushi roll). Definitely loved everything I got here!

Pretty good local Great Neck sushi restaurant. All the sushi & sashimi is prepared fresh and reasonably priced. The restaurant is not big but plenty of elbow room nonetheless. Staff is pleasant and well mannered. Overall a pleasant experience. My only concern for not giving a five star review is their miso soup is on the thin side, meaning lack of miso paste. In addition, the ginger dressing in their house salad is pretty watery. Maybe it was just an isolated incident, but let's see next time.

Met here for dinner which was midway for both parties to meet up. Sashimi was ok, had fresher quality fish before. The carpaccio had way too much mixed greens under each piece of yellowtail so if you take a slice with the greens you don't taste the fish (yes, you can also eat the yellowtail alone). The appetizers were basic nothing too exciting. On the smaller side, not much decor to make it feel like you're in Japan. Wasn't too crowded the service was slow didn't check in much. Didn't quite give me that authentic Japanese cuisine ambiance feeling.

Really enjoyed the Yellowtail Scallion and Spicy Tuna Rolls that we got two orders! The rolls are generously filled but the rice and nori are also delicious. The fish is so fresh and every piece melted in our mouths.

3.25 When you've visited a restaurant several times over the past few years, they must be doing something right. Whether it's the food, service, ambiance, or all of the above, something keeps drawing you back. This is how my wife and I felt about Shoshaku. However, during my last few visits, things have changed. If I had reviewed this place years ago, it would have received a 4.5 rating. Unfortunately, these days, I can only give it a 3.25. On the positive side, the pricing is definitely a highlight here. Their specialty rolls are reasonably priced, with almost all of them under $20 each. Some of the good ones we had this time included the Middle Neck Roll and the Outside the Box. The Geso Karrage (fried squid) and the Chicken Nanban (chicken nuggets) were fried and seasoned well. However, there were several issues this time around. Many of the drinks on their menu were unavailable. I can understand this happening once, but multiple offerings were not readily accessible. The veggie chips served with the Holy Grenade were so stale that they smelled terrible. When we informed the server, she smelled them and immediately apologized. This was an easy call to avoid serving. When they brought out new chips, it was clear they had simply opened a new bag. The Spicy Naruto wasn't spicy at all and seemed poorly rolled, as it immediately unraveled. One of my favorite dishes in the past, the Creamy Mentai Udon, was a bit under-seasoned (perhaps due to a lack of roe), and the poached egg was overcooked. The final straw was that the two servers seemed quite disorganized. When we asked for our check, they appeared to have completely forgotten and we waited about 10 more minutes before we were able to receive our check. I hope Shoshaku addresses some of these issues. It is a cute restaurant, and their food used to be really solid.

I've tried this place a few times, and it had become my go-to spot for sushi/sashimi. Not owned by Japanese ppl, but their food is actually pretty good. They offer lots of options- including omakase, special rolls, tapas, donburi bowls, noodle & fried rice, and lunch specials. The service is always quick and friendly. My son loves their stuff as well. We usually get the hamachi kama, yellow tail sushi, the hot mama roll is my fave, toro truffle rolls, inari sushi, crispy rice with either spicy tuna or salmon and sashimi combo. Everything tasted fresh & tasty, and the prices are very reasonable. Truly a hidden gem- worth trying them out!

Shoshaku is a reliable solid sushi place that always delivers regardless of what you order (sushi, sashimi, any of the hot items, etc). On top of that, the service is great too. I'm not sure what her name is, but the lady with the short hair/bangs is so kind and it's clear that there are regulars at this place and rightfully so. If I ever work in this area again, I'll 100% be back.

I made reservations for my family to have our Mother's Day lunch here at 1pm. We were a few minutes late but seated right away! We noticed around 1:30pm, a lot more people started coming in and before we knew it, all the tables were filled. The restaurant is a lot smaller than I initially thought it would be; I think they can seat ~30 people in the whole restaurant so I could see there being a wait on a busy day We ordered 2 appetizers. The Hamachi Kama was really good, my first time having it! Super crispy, but the fish was still tender inside. A lot of other tables also ordered this. We also got the fried calamari which was okay. Good but a little small. For entrees, we got the Shoshaku Set for 2, one Same Old roll and a Gyudon for my brother since he doesn't eat sashimi. You get a soup AND salad for each entrée (the set and gyudon) so we ended up getting 3 soups and 3 salads, which we shared amongst the 4 of us. The gyudon came out first- very little beef but a lottt of rice. The flavor was good but I don't think I'd get this again. The ratio is very off! Needed probably double the amount of beef and could do with less rice too. The service was a little slower because they were really busy! We finally got our sushi. The set was really good, I didn't have any bad pieces and everything seemed really fresh. For dessert, we opted for the Yuzu cheesecake, green tea tiramisu and green tea crepe cake. I would pass on the desserts next time and go elsewhere. Both green tea desserts were frozen hard in some places making it difficult to eat with our plastic spoons. The yuzu cheesecake was decide but tiny and very subtle in flavor. Would still come back for their set and to try some new things!

Sushi + roll combo ($20). Came with miso soup, salad, and tea.

Two friends and I went to dinner at Suko Restaurant on Middle Neck Road. When we arrived, I asked if we could sit outside, and the owner had no problem with that. While we were enjoying our meal, one of my friends mentioned that the edamame needed a little more salt. Seeing the owner outside, I politely asked if we could have some salt. To my shock, he suddenly started yelling at me and told me that I was being rude. At first, I thought he was joking, so I responded, "Can you imagine how rude I am to my husband?" His response was completely inappropriate and offensive. He said that if he were my husband, he would slap me on my behind over and over again in a sensual manner and that I would enjoy every moment of it. My friends and I were absolutely stunned. When I asked him to stop and bring us the check, he then said that "you Jews always give me problems." A few minutes later, after I told the waitstaff that I intended to share my experience on GN Mommies, he came over with hot sake to apologize. He even offered to refund our meal, but I declined. I don't want anything from someone who makes hateful remarks about Jews. After living in Great Neck for 40 years, I have never experienced anything like this. As a Jewish resident, I was deeply offended by both the inappropriate sexual comments and the anti-Semitic remark. I will never set foot in this restaurant again.

I quickly checked Yelp and saw that the reviews were pretty promising, so I decided I had to check it out for myself. I was immediately greeted by the friendliest staff and felt so welcomed. I ordered the Tiger Roll, which was absolutely delicious, along with a lychee martini--and I have to say, it was probably one of the best lychee martinis I've ever had. I was still a little hungry afterward, so I decided to order one of my favorites, the yellowtail jalapeño, and it was DIVINE. The ambience really stood out to me. It was calm and relaxing, the music was perfect, and the overall atmosphere felt very upscale without being stuffy. The staff was incredible throughout my entire visit. I enjoy salmon, tuna, fluke, and yellowtail, but beyond those basics, I'm completely lost. My wife and her sister were in the mood for Japanese food, and this is a place they have visited several times, so I tagged along. If you're familiar with this part of Northern Boulevard, you know how many restaurants there are and how annoying it can be to find parking. When you enter, several people greet you. The place is wide open and clean, with a small bar up front and the sushi station towards the back. The three of us opted for the Omakase, which includes 16 pieces. Overall, it was pretty good. Were there a few items I could have done without? Of course, especially since I'm not a seafood fan. Let's start with the things I did enjoy: Sapporo beer (haha), monkfish liver (surprisingly), sea bream, seared scallop, hamachi, salmon, tuna, and my dessert, the seared wagyu beef. My least favorite item was the sea snail--I must have been chewing that for at least five minutes. The other items I didn't mention were decent. Overall, it was a good meal. Why am I giving it a 4.25? It's pricey ($138 per person for the Omakase), so if you're coming here for that, be prepared to spend some money.
