Shot bar is awesome for those nights you just want to get loose and have a great time on the dance floor. No cover which I love I can spend more money on drinks. It can be a bit crowd but what else do you except.. The upper level is where you want to be right next to the DJ dancing the night way. Not just this place, but my overall first visit to the Midtown area gave me a vibe of urban yuppy snobs. People were acting pretty bogus. Five of us guys went to the door at Shot Bar. My four buddies got in no problem, but they just outright rejected me. One of my buddies had to "talk me in". I wasn't even last guy out of the five of us to approach the bouncer. So they couldn't blame it on the capacity( though this place is too freakin packed!). Drinks took forever to get. First time visit was on a Thursday and I LOVED it! This bar is super diverse Blacks, Whites, Indians, Hispanics literally everyone who just wants to dance and have a good time. It's been a while since I've been to a club where the patrons have given zero f**ks but this place guarantees that. The people dance! I have been to midtown to enjoy the nightlife a couple of times and I decided to join my friends for a night out in midtown. I was accompanied by two of my friends and we intended to meet up with a couple of people we knew who were already inside ShotBar. As we approached the young bouncer we all got our government IDs ready to show. My 2 friends went before me and when I walked up with my Canadian drivers license he immediately without hesitation stated "I can't let you in if you don't have a passport". I kindly asked him to clarify what he meant as I had never been told this statement in my 2 years of being in Houston, Texas. He was not interested in my explaining anything to me and quickly dismissed me. I have researched shotbarhouston.com and there is no mention of a policy stating the need for out-of state or country customer needing to show passport as a form of ID. Important to note I am a Black Canadian female and the young bouncer was White. My suggestion - think twice before you decide to spend your money here. After being denied at ShotBar we hopped the street the went to the bar right in across the shotbar and got in without a problem..hmmmm read more

I came with a group of 100+ medical students. While all of my classmates were let into the bar, I was rejected because they "couldn't let me in because of my shoes." Note: I was wearing black boots because it was actually snowing in Houston. Unbelievable that a place will not admit you based on your fashion choices. For so many years your establishment was the end all be all for me and friends. I got out of college started making some money and occasionally decided to come back to midtown to have a good night. Tonight was a reality check of how alive discrimination is amongst our city thanks to your staff working the door. Aside from standing about 20 minutes outside and being treated as second best because your door guy wanted to hook his friends and females up and bypass the potential spending revenue customers. When we finally decided to move elsewhere due to limit of the night, your door man's comment "that's right y'all better leave" to our entire group was uncalled for. Your establishment falls second to GasLamp with their discrimination. My motto has always been: someone doesn't know they're doing wrong unless they're told and I'm here to say your employees are in the wrong. Im here to give you the opportunity to correct a wrong and I hope you deliver. If your staff continues to ignore Houston for what it is DIVERSE full of different ethnicities and races you're closely following GasLamp's downfalls. Making a complaint The little short bouncer named travis who discriminates and feels so good to have authority of who goes in and doesn't. We were out as a family and did not let my husband in because he was wearing adidas yet let my sister in law in with hers and everyone else who had tennis shoes. I do not see on the website the exclusions of brands or if a certain gender should wear adidas. I work with customers all day long and if I treated someone that way I would be fired. This establishment is another Gas Lamp in the making I hope their business goes under, thankfully we went Sage County with no issues and had a memorable time. I will make sure to have my whole family write a bad review of this place. I guess I must have gone on some off night, i don't remember a door/bouncer guy, and i don't remember the frat people, maybe there was a kegger and they were out of town .. whatevs ... so i came here after the lame wonder bar experience and it was around 10, or maybe 11, yeah around 11, lets say. Anyway the music was pretty good, the bartender lady was very nice and she made us a few shots, i JIPed my friends (joined in progress) so they told me that the bartender lady was cool and had offered some free shots which i think was very nice, but the freebies were over when i JIPed. So I need to come back and decide if this place deserves a better rating, but so far it was ok. I went to the Shot Bar for my friends birthday gathering, as soon as my husband and I walked up we were turned away because I had a romper on. I am a full figure woman of color and I really feel like I was being discriminated against, my romper appears to look like a dress in the front and it was very tasteful. My friends and I were in the bar when no one was really interested in being there. It was a Saturday evening around 10 pm when college football games were about to finish up. We didn't have much to drink and were enjoying a beer when one our group , who happened to be African American, (our group comprised of people of Mexican descent and one African American) was escorted out by the police. We had not had much alcohol at the time and followed our friend out to see what the deal was. He was accused of assaulting the manager. Bare in mind that he was with us in plain sight of everyone in the bar (booth to the left as soon as you walk in between the two bars). He was told that if the manager came out and said that he assaulted her, he would be taken to jail. I asked the manager about the issue and they didn't even look at my friend before saying that he did slapped the manager on the butt behind the bar. We left peacefully but will NEVER go back. This is probably the craziest bar in Midtown. On Thursday nights they have a wheel. You spin the wheel to select which shot you get. If you guess the right color you get the shot for free. They are fun every night. I have never had a bad experience here. Everyone is down to party. Unfortunately if you don't get there before 11 you will have to wait in line especially on weekends and especially if you are a guy. A lot of people complain that they let large groups of girls in and make the guys wait but to me that is what makes it a good party. So come early or be willing to wait. I came to shot bar on Feb 17th 2011 fun cool place. I enjoyed it so much I planned for it to be one of my stops for my 24th birthday party bus tour. I called on the 18th I know that I spoke with a man name TONY. I was told that the table in the left corner could be reserved with my name on it. He stated that he had my name down and that it would be on reserve for the night of 3-3-2011. When we got there it was a whole different story, it was my actually birthday I had taking the time to do research called ahead and plan so I could have a great time, I was hurt, embarrassed, sad, and judged at the front door, it was one thing to not have the table reserved but for SHOT BAR not to even let me or any of my guest in was WRONG. It was clearly not packed the door man was letting us in until "owner" stopped him! I really feel in my heart that we were not let in because most of my guests were not white!!!!!!!!!
