It's named after Balermino who was raised in Mission Santa Clara and born to Ohlone-speaking parents. He became a prominent landowner in the SJ area, and was a key figure in SJ's early development. The park is not only a homage to Balermino, but to all Native Americans with pavement designs that resemble traditional Ohlone Basket Weaving. RABP has all the usual neighborhood park amenities, and is only set apart with is distinctive design. Here's a list: -Street parking only -Tot Lot and Playground -No restrooms, which is actually a good thing in this neighborhood that's infested with upstanding citizens. See my review for nearby Bellevue Park: http://www.yelp.com/biz/bellevue-park-san-jose?hrid=VzJNBbl6FiMElg3hy8FU0g -×1 Full-sized Basketball Court -Shaded non-reservable picnic tables -Nice-sized grassy field, that's in fairly decent shape. RABP gets my customary 2.5-star rating for a neighborhood park with no restrooms. However, in this case, the absence of a commode is a positive, and I really dig the Native American motif, so I'll bump it up to 3-stars.

My kids love the park but it sucks that it doesn't have restrooms and not a lot of parkingread more

Holy jeez... Where do I begin with Bellevue Park (BP)? BP is a relatively newish ±1.7-acre…read moreneighborhood park that was built in 2007; before that, it was a series of abandoned warehouses that the City ended up acquiring. It also happens to be located in one of San José's more socio-economically challenged neighborhoods--right off infamous Monterey Highway. I had completely forgotten about this park until a co-worker of mine mentioned something about stopping by it to use the restroom. He asserted that it was "pretty bad," and full of "derelicts." Well, with a narrative like that--how could I resist?!? I'm enticed by Ghettolicious things like a fat kid is drawn to cake. Upon arriving, you're greeted by Local Outdoor Enthusiasts (LOE); Pit Bulls; cockroaches; shopping carts; and overflowing trash containers. After about ten minutes of reconnoitering and taking pictures, I'd had enough, and wanted to move on. Here are the vitals: -Non-reservable picnic tables with BBQ pits -×2 half-court Basketball hoops -Nice Playground that's completely exposed to the elements. -Restrooms (that haven't been completely obliterated by the LOE) -Adjacent to the Three Creeks Trail (aka The Hobo Highway)--see my review (http://www.yelp.com/biz/three-creeks-trail-san-jose) for further details. -Big grassy field, that's been fenced off for some reason; re-sodding? -There's also a rather odd ±100'x70' dirt patch that may be for some upcoming addition--or maybe it's the City's way of showing that brown is the new green? So, there you have it. I could sit here all day and beat up on BP, but I think you get the idea at this point. I wish I could say that at least it's a good thing for the people of the neighborhood, but with the element I saw occupying the area, I can't imagine anyone bringing their kids. As for me, once was enough. Even if I was close by and had a bathroom emergency, I think I'd rather find someplace else to go. After all, isn't that what Gatorade bottles are for?
