This is a great place to eat, especially when staying in Gulfport, right off I10. The reviews were solid and it was 1/4 mile from where we were staying, so it was a no brainer for us. Our server, Amanda, was friendly and efficient. We placed our drink and food orders very quickly after being seated. Our draft beers quenched our thirst and the gulf shrimp and combo gulf shrimp/chicken baskets we ordered were very tasty. I really like the batter they use. My only suggestion is to add more salt to both the fried shrimp and chicken. Their buffalo sauce I ordered to dip my fries in was very good, so was the corn fritter, hush puppies and fries. Saw this little place on my drive to the hotel. It looked interesting so I had to try it. First impression was, it's a hole in the wall. Best ones. It was early so not many people were there. The menu had a good amount of selections for dinner. I asked for recommendations. The fish, shrimp, grits, pasta, chicken, and raw oysters. I finally settled on the spicy chicken pasta, recommended. Then I got a side of popcorn shrimp. I had to try it. Both were very good. The servings were pretty big. I just knew that this place was gonna be good. The service was great. The food was good. Everything was just a little better than expected. Oh, and don't forget to use their hot sauce. It's the best I've had in a little while. Yeah, I'd skip this restaurant. The servers are loud. Like, really loud. They were talking with each other across the restaurant about some order that wasn't right for at least 30 minutes. There were like six or eight people in the place, so the servers went out on the patio and smoked, I guess. I was sitting waiting for my server for at least 10 minutes, and here she comes walking back inside with the other server from the empty patio. My grilled shrimp and flounder plate was absolutely horrible. It was dripping in butter. The cole slaw was room temperature, and the broccoli and green beans had just as much butter. I think the fried stuff may have been a healthier choice. Honestly, I couldn't even eat it. I got some key lime pie (which I don't normally eat) but I didn't want to leave hungry. On our way to New Orleans we stopped in for lunch. The parking lot was packed but we easily found a seat at the bar. While the Shrimp Basket is a chain restaurant this was their first location. It is definitely a locals place and the severs know all the locals that come in and are very friendly. The food was good, cooked perfectly and the service attentive. Also, they have a full bar! When one of the customers got out his wallet to pay the bill the server saw that he had a military id. We happen to be in the area and thought we should try it, since we had the other wonderful experience at the ocean springs location. Andrew was our server. Super friendly guy. Actually the whole staff. From the great hostess that sat us down quickly. To the amazing people that cooked the food! She was able to bring it out super fast and fresh. I assumed that they just got done making the wonderful food and brought it straight out it to us. They mainly have table seating. They offer outdoor covered patio seating. Definitely recommend it when the weather permits. Chairs are comfortable. Light padding and hard wood back. We started out with something to drink (non alcoholic drinks). They offer a small full bar as you walk in (drink responsibly). I assume they can do groups. Recommend calling ahead to make arrangements. Due to the fact, it is not a big place. Got the the shrimp poboy with French fries. Also ordered the blackened shrimp tacos with French fries. They are super tasty! Actually all they offer are excellent. Especially notice people at other tables ordering the fresh raw oyster on the half shell (dozen). It seems to be popular thing to order. Place is easy to get to. On the corner of highway 49. They have a traffic light. So it is not a hassle to get in and out. From the parking lot. Looks like plenty of spots. Unless you prefer up close and personal of the restaurant. Recommend this spot if you are in the area or at their other location in Ocean Springs (off highway 90). No mask required. I do not know about the Wi-Fi situation. They do military discount. No reservations required. But I recommend coming early on the weekends. I noticed they are always packed as we drove by. One of the many reasons we had to stop by! The food was horrible, the service was horrible and the restaurant itself is just muggy and dingy and gross. I don't know if we just had the misfortune of getting seated in Amber's station. Maybe the food would have been better if it was brought to us fresh and our drinks were filled, and we were attended to, and our orders were correct, but I will never be returning or suggesting this place to anyone. I wanted Catfish, pure caught river catfish. I called and called, and stopped in at least 10 different restaurants to find that Swai was the fish served as catfish. I was raised on REAL catfish, not this imposter from overseas. Swai fish are from Vietnam where they use antibiotics. I have never eaten sick fish, so I want the real deal. Shrimp Basket proudly serves Mississippi Delta Catfish. The fish was lite, fluffy, and just the way I like it. They also served complimentary cup of gumbo to honor their #1 customer from Pensacola that eats there every day. I was so taken by his story, and the store in Pensacola that actually moved him next door to it so the main chef and staff could make sure he was ok. We've missed eating at the Shrimp Basket because the one in Ridgeland, MS closed during Covid. We got an order of fried pickles as an appetizer and our entrees were fried shrimp and fried catfish baskets with fries and coleslaw. All the fried food was served hot and crispy. I'd forgotten the coleslaw had baby shrimp in it, very good. Our waitress was attentive and the service was excellent. I hope we make it back to Gulfport soon.
