It's hit or miss with this place. Somedays it's great food and sometimes the food is overcooked and cold. The servers are always great and it is understood that they do not cook the food and cannot control the timing. Lunch today made 3 out of 4 of us sick. I'm guessing the old grease that my fish was cooked in was the problem. We waited way too long. A couple came in after us, sat, ate and left before we even received our food. Ordered several things. Shrimp and grits were like soup and there were only 4 shrimp. The grits had ran all over the toast making the bread mushy. Crab cake appetizer...cakes were mushy and fell apart, not even able to hold a bite on the fork. Shrimp pasta was warm and had plenty of shrimp and sausage, the seasoning was not of my liking, but that is totally an individual thing. The shrimp slaw was lacking shrimp, and flavor. Ordered the blackened redfish with seafood cream sauce and rice, crab burger in paradise, and fried calamari. The first bite of the redfish I thought I had bitten into a bone but it turns out it was the rice. The rice was rock hard and was either stale or overcooked, I couldn't even eat it. The redfish and cream sauce was good, but not great. The burger tasted like something from a high school cafeteria. The bun was soggy, the patty tasted like a frozen patty cooked on a flattop. The fried calamari resembled fish sticks more than calamari and didn't taste well either. Very disappointed and would not recommend eating anything here aside from shrimp. Me and my boyfriend try and go to the shrimp basket every time we visit but we usually go to the Pensacola location. We should've stuck with what we knew. The food was a total disappointment. Late Friday night I walked, sat at the bar, and was served immediately. I had the all you can eat shrimp of which you can choose to have it either blackened, grilled, or fried. The fried shrimp were lightly battered, as they should be on the coast, the grilled shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the blackened shrimp had just the right amount of spice. I ate until satisfied and can say all three ways the shrimp was cooked was outstanding. It was served with a side of twice baked potato salad and their shrimp slaw. Both sides very good! Based on one visit to the Navarre location, I will not visit any Shrimp Baskets again. I had what I would consider the signature dish, the jumbo shrimp basket. The other order was for the fish tacos (grilled). My fried shrimp basket arrived and looked like it was going to be great. Unfortunately it was tasteless. No salt, no seasonings, just tasted bland. The best part of the dish was the side of boiled cabbage (I like boiled cabbage plain and this was plain). I gave my dish a 1 star simply because you have to give a star. The fish taco order was said to be grilled nicely, moist and not undercooked. Fixings and sauce completed the tacos, but overall they were underwhelming for lack of flavor. 2 stars. Waitstaff was great. Friendly, personable, not overbearing, A+. It was summertime so we sat outside on the patio. Nice. Ceiling fans and misters keep the air cool. The misters leaked more than usual. Condensation builds up on the dirty parts the misters hit so you get brown drops of water landing on your table, person and possibly your food. Overall 2 star. I almost went 1 star for the fact the jumbo shrimp basket at The Shrimp Basket was not good. So for 1 visit to one location, 2 stars. Here on vacation and finally try a local restaurant in town. Though it seems like a local chain in the AL, FL, MS area, it really felt like a mom and pop restaurant. Quality of the food was good and everyone had a great time. This is a very small eatery and they try to accommodate by seating outside under an awning as well, but many of us do not like eating outdoors. First night in Florida and all I could think about was raw oysters. It was dark, we were starving and at this point it did not matter where. The shrimp basket was having an all you can eat fried shrimp special but I just had to have those oysters on the half shell. I watched as they were professionally shucked and stacked on a plate with a build your own sauce makings. The first one was unbelievable. Not at all what I was expecting from the outside looking in. Was a pleasant surprise when we arrived for lunch and were greated promptly at the door. The outside of this place reminds you of a fast food joint (wendy's or long johns) that had been conveted into a new restaraunt. The interior was a lot nicer even though still on the dive size (just like I like). Wait staff was really helpful, not to mention easy on the eyes. We had fried shrimp, crawfish gumbo, and mahi tacos. All were great. If you like local seafood this is a great place to try. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars was the standard lettuce / tom / sourcream on the mahi tacos. They needed the mex treatment of cabbage slaw and a chipotle sauce to be really great. read more

I visited this place with some friends during spring break, and it blew away our expectations. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it ended up being one of the best meals on our whole trip. I ordered the blackened catfish with crawfish etouffee, and it was done perfectly. The spices on the fish weren't too overpowering, and the etouffee was just the right amount of spicy. It was a little expensive for what it was, each plate being around $10-$13. Still, I would recommend it to anyone looking for good food and a good atmosphere. I'm giving it four stars instead of five because I think an $8-$11 price range would be more suitable, not because of the taste. The four of us all wished we had discovered it sooner. read more
