I came here after a concert at the New Parish and man it hit. I got the chicken shawarma wrap and it was so flavorful, saucy, and satisfying. I appreciate that they weren't stingy with the sauce (which was very tasty) and the chicken itself was also very moist and flavor packed. So glad I got to finally try this place. I heard about them during the pandemic and reached out. They said they were renovating and working on a new location. I got a message today saying that they were reopening and I went to give it a try. The food truck is still parked right outside and the cafe inside the actual restaurant is called Cairo Station. It was so nicely interior designed, and was very neat and clean. I was actually their first customer to be inside the restaurant since they opened. I highly recommend getting the Mix Plate, it has beef, chicken, and shrimp. I will say that it is more expensive than it should be BUT I didn't have an issue paying for it since it was their first day and I'm happy to see them in my local community. Over time, they may need to bring prices for the plates down a little but given the pandemic and the challenges of opening a restaurant--costs of doing business are higher than ever so I didn't have an issue. I plan to add this place to the spots I frequent in Oakland and really encourage you to give them a try. read more

The love is in the food and always has been! They've moved into a café space but they've maintained that food truck/hole-in-the-wall authenticity. You can't go wrong with the classic gyro sandwich. Me, I'm a fat boy so I just get all three (gyro. chicken and shrimp) in one . As for the deserts, the baklava is DELICIOUS--but the kunafa is where's its at! Don't pick one, GET BOTH! And if you don't know, they've got an in-house Turkish coffee that will smack any Starbucks drink or espresso shot. They are wonderful, welcoming people who appreciate their clientele. Stationed on Telegraph Ave right by Fox Theater and the DT Oak bars, me and my homies were getting the munchies and saw a pretty long line waiting for food. Couldn't resist the smell so we had to try some late night falafels in DT Oak. Service was super fast as they took our orders (credit or debit card & cash accepted). The line moved quick and we waited about 4-5 min to get our food. The crowd around the truck was pretty lit since everyone stopped by after drinks and they had loud music playing from the speakers of the truck. Thank you for being the only thing open and available after a few drinks and a Warriors Game. First of all, the smell alone that is coming out of this food truck will lure you in, even if you're not hungry! The food here is super fresh, so expect a wait when you order your food (but it's worth it)*wink. I tried the beef gyro, which was full of flavor! The meat is super juicy and it comes with the perfect amount of veggies and gyro sauce atop. It can be messy, so be sure to ask for extra napkins, because they only give you two of the really, really skinny paper napkins. They also sell bahklava, if you have room for dessert, order this too! Stop at this food truck; you have to try it at least one time and then you'll know. After leaving Woods Bar, I was on the hunt for a light, cheap dinner. And fortune smiled upon me as directly across the street was Shrimp Falafel Mix. Yep, that is the name of this green truck with cartoon shrimp decorated around it and proclaiming it to be the best gyro in town. Usually parked on 18th & Telegraph, which is a smart location considering the plethora of bars and venues - they probably crush it late night and after major shows at the Fox. They have a number of options, which does make it a bit difficult to decide. Sandwiches are wrapped in pita, they have a lot of vegetarian dishes, there may or may not be pasta entrees, and a lot of desserts. However the most confusing thing is the naming structure. shrimp falafel isn't falafel made with shrimp - it is shrimp AND falafel. Likewise shrimp shwarma would be shrimp and shwarma. Which really makes the desserts of shrimp baklava REALLY confusing. Anyways after looking at the menu I went to the other menu and asked the cashier what he recommended. "All of it. I love all of it." Well, I figure I will make my way down the list so I ordered the shrimp falafel sandwich, spicy of course. I already had some lefterover baklava at home, so that was it, and waited along with some others. What I got was a delicious pita sandwich, filled with chopped falafel (not dry at all), veggies, bay shrimp, and then topped with spicy tzatiki sauce. The best way I can describe it is like the first time you tried a taco bell gordita - when it was the most amazing thing in the world and not something you wouldn't order if you were starving because you actually know what food is now. With the pillowy falafel, the delicious mix of falafel shrimp and that spicy sauce on top. I had trouble not just inhaling it. This food truck was far from it! After, bar hopping Oakland, this place was in a perfect location. This place didn't have much a line on a Saturday night. My order was taken right away and they accept credit card! I decided to get the chicken shawarma which was one of the cheaper entree items. I scarfed it down in less than five minutes t was that good. The shawarma myself reminded me of a Mexican taco. The outer shell was a soft pita, but the chicken itself was spiced with almost Mexican flavors. It was just enough food for a late night snack. Overall, I had a pretty good experience at this food truck and wouldn't mind ending up here any day of the night. Sometimes life takes hold and makes decisions for you. Tonight was that night! I was in an exhausted haze from a super long day of work and boarded the wrong BART train. After getting off at 19th I realized the universe didn't want me to go home. It wanted me to go find some late night grub! While heading toward Rudy's I stumbled upon a beacon of potential foodie heaven - a well-lit, busy food truck. I ordered the shish kebab sandwich and would have bought baklava as well, but they were out (of both sweet and savory!). A man, who may have been the owner, said they make a certain amount fresh each day and had sold out. He reassured me there would be more tomorrow. After waiting a fair amount of time my number was called and I went to pick up my sandwich. I must have looked impatient while standing there because when I got to the window the man explained that it takes a little longer to make this particular sandwich because of the way they cook the meat. I reassured him the wait was no problem and I was sure the sandwich would be delish. Little did I know, it'd be all that and more. After catching a Lyft home I finally had some alone time with my food. And let me tell you, it was well worth the missed train and the wait. The pita was thick and perfectly crisped on the outside but soft on the inside. The meat was well seasoned and tender and the sauce was just enough so it was present throughout but not drowning. Just AMAZING. I was thinking about for the next week and a half. So tonight I was in San Francisco and decided I needed to go out to Oakland just to get another one. LOVED IT. Absolutely fantastic. Honestly I completely forgot I had a Yelp account until I ate here on a whim tonight and felt the need to share with the world. I can only speak to their chicken and rice plate...but speak I can, for it is DELICIOUS. Their white sauce is delectable -- tangy, creamy, not ranchy at all like some other places in the Bay (??), it reminded me of late night stops at my favorite NYC cart. The hummus was a fantastic touch, and the chicken had some kind of wonderfully tasty spice happening. My taste buds were into it, is all I'm saying.
