Went in with zero expectations and left planning my next visit. Stopped by Tacos Mi Rancho near Lake Merritt and honestly didn't know what to expect. From the outside, it looks like a straightforward taco truck, but wow was I surprised. I ordered the Carnitas Super Taco, which came loaded with lettuce, cheese, cilantro, onions, sour cream, and guacamole. Everything was fresh, well seasoned, and packed with flavor. My only complaint? You only get one taco per order because I definitely could've eaten another. The Kid ordered the Carne Asada Super Taco and before we even pulled away, she was asking for a second one. That's usually a pretty good sign. We also tried the horchata and jamaica, and both were delicious. The horchata was creamy and flavorful, while the jamaica was refreshing and not overly sweet. What surprised me most was how quickly they got the food out, especially considering how popular this spot seems to be. Iconic taco truck near Lake Merritt. Perfect for late nights but perhaps better in memory than reality. The food here is more like 3.5 stars -- but there are other great options around. The flavors are rich and laid on thick. We ordered a veggie burrito, a bean and cheese burrito with rice added, and three tacos (carne, pollo asado, and Cameron's). The carne melted in my mouth, since it was rich with rendered fat, and the tortillas were crisped around the outside to melt and seal the layer of cheese inside. Probably our best overall dish was the bean-cheese-rice burrito -- covered in their salsas and peppers -- since it balanced all the ingredients and textures. On the other hand, the veggie burrito brought the flavor, but between the crema, pico, guacamole, and cheese it ended up soggy halfway through and the tortilla threatened to come loose. The shrimp and chicken were forgettable, and the tortillas come crispy off the griddle but they are damp by the time you walk anywhere to sit. What captures the truck in a nutshell are the chips they serve, covered in a seasoning that replicates Doritos flavor. Sometimes that is exactly what you need. Tacos Mi Rancho used to be my family's go to burrito spot, but after tonight we won't EVER be back. My kids went to grab dinner, ordered two steak burritos and an order of steak fries. They got the steak fries right, but instead of steak burritos we received two chicken burritos. We called to let them know the order was incorrect and the guy who answered insisted that we ordered chicken. We most definitely didn't. He said he would replace them and he asked that we bring the chicken burritos back. This was already an inconvenience because we live 15 minutes away, so gas was wasted getting all the way over there and back. When they were picked up, instead of owning up to his mistake, the guy still insisted that we ordered chicken. Again, we did not. While we finally had what we ordered, the steak burritos were smaller and barely had any meat in them, while the incorrect order were chock full of chicken. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Will definitely be back, I only live like 3 mins away and will try other things. I've tried to visit before but it was cash only and only ever have card, but for some reason I was scrolling on doordash last night and saw they were on there and decided to order for pick up to finally try this spot. Upon arriving, it was pretty busy but I only waited about 11-12 minutes so the service was really fast. I ordered the super al pastor quesadilla and it was really good really fresh ingredients and perfect portions. My boyfriend got the carnitas torta and omg it was really good, the meat was seasoned hella good and they did not skimp on the meat. The carne asada fries were hella good must have here next time I'll definitely add some shrimp it also came with a can of soda. Last night after attending a concert in Oakland, the only thing I could think of is I wanted tacos. My cousin took me to this food truck that is located around the Lake Merritt area and I see why they are so popular. It was a line, but it kept moving and it was worth the wait. All the tacos were delicious but my favorite was the shrimp taco, it was perfectly cooked and the salsa on it was so good. The rest of the tacos were pretty standard but still really delicious. It was quite busy for 10pm on a week night but the service was still quick and staff were really nice. They also gave chips (with some sort of Doritos/nacho dust), salsa, and even pickled carrots and jalapeños which were delicious on the side. This little taco truck is tucked on a side street near Lake Merritt. Easy to miss, but clearly loved. The line was long, which is always a good sign, but it moved fast. The menu was big, and I got three carne asada tacos. All of them were delicious. Some reviewers complain that you need to know a little Spanish. Come on, this is California. You can handle "carne asada." Take your tacos to go and eat by the lake. It's a great move. Pro tip: the default salsa is not hot enough, at least for me. Ask for "la salsa más picante." These are hands down the best nachos I've ever had. I ordered through DoorDash and was able to make adjustments to my order over the phone when I realized I forgot to request chips on the side. They also provided me with radishes and jalapeños as I requested, which was fantastic. I think their nachos are spectacular because of the cheesy, crunchy Doritos chips combined with the nacho cheese! The best taco truck in Oakland! Been going here for 20 years, and still include it on any Oakland itinerary for visitors. I get my tacos "with cream and cheese," and they are the best anywhere. Shrimp or chicken generally, but I can literally eat anything here. The menu is just solid overall, and everything is top tier. Love that they now serve jamaica (hibiscus); it's perfect. In all these years, there's ALWAYS people in line -- especially late late night. But it's always safe and I've literally never had or even seen a problem there (actually the opposite). Great food. As an Oakland native born and raised I've had my share of taco trucks. This one is probably ONE OF THE BEST IN THE BAY AREA. prices have went up but they compensate very well with the meat and toppings they put on them tacos therrr. I always get the tacos haven't tried any else but I must. There carrots. Hella good. Radishes hella good. What tops off these tacos is the GREEN ONIONS. THATS RIGHT THE GREEN ONIONS. HELLA GOOD.
