Chicken burrito with lots of rice and close to no chicken
    Ann C.

This used to be one of my go to spots for takeout but the food quality seems to have dropped recently. Latest order was a chicken burrito that hardly had any chicken and rather was stuffed with rice. Shrinkflation?? The burrito game in the area is so strong so no tears shed here, though it is a lose :/

Carnitas, al pastor, and asada tacos

So far, these tacos traveled the best to-go out of the trucks we've tried in the area. Really great flavor, not ridiculously oily, and loved that it came with radish, cebolla, peppers, and limes. I'd pass on the rice and beans next time though. Definitely will go back and try more.

Back then the line here would be wrapped around non stop all day everyday. Due to the pricing and change in business concept the people know better now. What started innocently across the street by that smart and final turned into this close fisted modern experience so bad they don't even post the prices up on the menu. Yes the pastor is good but it's not great. The onions and jalapeño tho are tasty. Remind me of something low/mid being passed off at top rate prices. $4+ for tacos and $15+ burritos says it all coming from a truck .

someone took our order but employees were kind enough to remake our order. dishes had toppings overload! carne asada burrito had perfect ratio of rice to toppings. huge chunks of meat and green sauce made it 10/10. tacos were delicious too.

The food was okay overall. The tacos weren't anything special--pretty basic--but they got the job done. I've definitely had better elsewhere, but for a quick taco stand in Oakland, it was decent. Not the greatest, but not terrible either. Really expensive though.

Tacos de ASADA y CABEZA (muuuy bien!)

This Oakland taco truck hit the spot! I came super late and they were still popping. I didn't even feel unsafe in the area because they had a good amount of business even at night! The ASADA and CABEZA is really good. I got tacos with a horchata, and I gotta say this place does it right. I'll definitely be back!

    Terrible & dry burrito
    Ivette P.

Terrible, Let's start there! A burrito that's supposed to have sour cream didn't have sour cream, it was dry, looks moist but it was dry:/ and that's not even the last part...they took forever to call my number, either they forgot about it or they gave it to someone else bc I had to ask them twice about my order. So terrible service and terrible burrito! So if you're craving a burrito maybe find another place... p

Really? Why does this taco truck have 5-star reviews? "Tacos El Gordo" is on the corner of International Blvd x 42nd Ave in East Oakland. It's a food truck sitting in a parking lot, and it faces the street. If I was driving, we would of kept going. But my friend said the food is good here, so I should write a review about this place. Okay, you need to move the food truck away from the homeless camp. There's a row of trailers and tents about 20-feet away. Then there's sketchy people wandering around. So there's your "ambiance." I ordered: -Shrimp Super Taco, -Carne Asada & Pollo Combo Burrito -Churro Cheesecake - Shrimp Super Taco, Grade (5/5): if I only ordered Shrimp Tacos, the place would get 5-stars. That taco was loaded with plump juicy shrimp. Fresh and Tasty! Lots of extras included. - Combo Burrito w/ Carne Asada & Chicken, Grade (3/5): Big regular sized burrito. Mostly rice, not much meat. Some hard to chew chunks of either tough meat or tendons. No beans either, just alot of rice. Tortilla is grilled and served hot. That's why it's cheap, not much meat. -Churro Cheesecake, Grade (0/5): This is not a cheesecake. It's a square piece of custard pie with cinnamon powder on top. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, the tacos are good here. If you come here, be aware of your surroundings.

I almost cried while eating these tacos. I might have also been drunk, but that's not the point. We ordered four super tacos - al pastor and asada. We waited quite a bit for our food, but it was pretty busy at 2am with a steady flow of people. But honestly I would have waited even longer because they were worth it.

Taco Trailer aka "Tacos El Gordo" located in Oakland off International & 42nd Ave Craving late night tacos/burritos is just something that happens when I'm in the town so we decided to pull up super late night after coming from Frisco. As we were pulling up from the street, we noticed a lot of cars stalled in front of us. I thought to myself hmmm... I wonder if this is a sideshow up ahead & sure enough it was! For my non Bay Area Natives let me explain to you the definition of a sideshow. Sideshows=street spectacles that involve participants suddenly shutting down four-way intersections and even major bridges, and using the expanses of asphalt (street/concrete) to put on displays of cars, often with blacked-out windows, (people also may hang out the window) doing extreme donuts. Other things may go on as well (if you know you know) Anyway let me get back to the review! We had to turn around cause sideshows don't stop until they stop! We end up pulling into a gas station on the same block. I ordered carne asada burrito and a pastor taco. That was the best burrito I had in awhile that had just what I needed on the inside. Carne asada, cheese, sour cream, & Mexican rice nice wrapped in a flour tortilla. The pastor had cilantro, onion, purple onion, green jalapeño on a corn tortilla. A green a red sauce came with my order that tasted delectable, just the right amount of heat that it's still super flavorful & enjoyable to eat. My burrito and taco had the perfect consistency of every single ingredient. I have no complaints! The service was excellent. The lady taking orders was very nice, attentive and fast ! Pull up to this taco truck it's worth the risk imo! Food - 5 Atmosphere - 3 (Based off of the fact a sideshow was going on). Service - 4

7:30pm on a Saturday night. I've driven past this place a few times and the line was crazy. I'm guessing we beat the crowd because it was a fairly quiet night. Got my standard order of asada and carnitas tacos and a horchata. 4 tacos and 1 medium horchata was $21. My friend and I have been visiting several taco joints lately, and this was the most expensive of them. Food came out within I'd say less than 5 minutes. Asada was good. Nothing extraordinary, but a decent standard asada taco. The carnitas on the other hand. A+. If I ever come back to this truck, I'm only getting carnitas because damn it was good. Crispy, juicy, flavorful. So good. I would have liked to give this place 4.5 stars. But you can't. And I'm not giving 5 stars out here Willy nilly.

    Tripe taco and TACO LENGUA
    Masha G.

In our search for great Oakland tacos, we decided to start here! What I mean is that, there are so many taco trucks that my friend and I decided to start a taco crawl so we can try some great tacos and see which ones are our favorite! We each ordered lengua and tripas, which are our normal go tos, and while the tacos were good, they definitely weren't great sadly and our favorite (El Paisa) still holds the spot for the best. One thing I'd note is that the "ambiance" is very lacking. Obviously it's a taco truck on international, which is fine, but the encampment right next to it, makes it really unappealing. I know that's not their doing, but just context.

The menudo was completely bland and tasted like it came straight out of a can definitely not fresh and absolutely not worth ordering. The chips and guacamole were just "okay," but even that's being generous since the chips were clearly old and stale. The steak nachos were the final straw. They were straight-up gross. I ordered steak nachos and somehow got nachos covered in rice, barely any meat (if any at all), and a laughably small portion for the price. On top of that, they were made with the same stale chips. For what they charge, this level of food quality is unacceptable. I won't be coming back. The server was rude and short didn't care to answer any questions. Sinceramente me molesta haber gastado dinero aquí. No regresaré.

If this review was based on food tastes alone, and not looks, vibes, and the great show, it would've been 3 stars. The flautas were a bit too hard for me. Ive had way better flautas at El Torito's in San Leandro. Although there were only like 6 of us total in the audience for the show, it was still really enjoyable. The host, Tony Parker has great energy, and a lot of the comics (I think were like 5 or 6) had us laughing throughout. No one was safe lol. We ordered the duck carnitas, summer tamales, and kids' quesadilla, along with the roasted beats and a strawberry agua fresca and horchata. I cannot enumerate all of the amazing elements and flavors in this meal, but I can say that the crispy outside of the duck and the ease with which it fell apart drew a connection between duck confit and carnitas that changed the way I will think about both. The hearty masa in the tamales had a the texture of hand ground corn and was substantial enough to warrant chewing though. The beet -- tender and flavorful in itself -- was paired with a nutty, spicy mole like a thick paste, bright with its herbs. The agua fresca was a summertime blast of fruit. Yes, yes. The prices on the menu are $5-10 more than the menu on their website. It's a nice dining room, but very loud and the piped-in music makes it worse: I couldn't hear what my date was saying across the table. We started with the smoked trout tostadas. This is kind of ceviche style, and they were delicious. These are "street taco" sized tostadas by the way. The portion was OK but for $20 it could've been a bit more substantial. The duck mole: the duck was nicely unctuous and cooked amazingly, but very salty. The mole had the consistency and taste of hummus. Needless to say it was thick, gloopy and tasted only of cumin. The little salad on the plate was plastered in it. The grilled swordfish Valencia style was just an overly sour salsa verde with a couple chopped green olives with the fish sitting in the watery liquid. The salsa had a kick, but tasted mostly of lime, it was also cold. The swordfish however was grilled perfectly and the portion was great--for $35 I'm glad it was. Beans and rice seemed an overly salty afterthought, and if you don't want beans, too bad, it's served in the same bowl as the rice. The service was almost non-existent--no one checked in on us or asked how things were; there seemed to be only one person taking orders in the dining room and three-four people running around. Our appetizer plates sat in front of us for 15 mins, so when the entrees arrived the runner had a hard time clearing the table and simultaneously putting down the entrees. We didn't see our server again until the end when she gave us the check. Suddenly the charm came on when the tip came up. I appreciate what they're doing, but for that price point there are far better options.
