Ran into this place -starving on my way home from work. I was on the phone (hands free ) and my friend was talking about frying up some extra large shrimps. Going south on LiveOak, while we're talking, out of nowhere appeared , "The Shrimp House". It was like my friend spoke it into existence. The place has a old school coffee shop on the beach vibe to it. It took me a minute to order cause all the combination plates on tthe menu looked good.So I went in on what every first timer should, the sampler. This sampler gives you almost everything on the menu ,"Captain Pauls Sampler". It was cool, but I didn't like the fact that the fish was COD and you couldn't make substitution- even if you were willing to pay. New England Clam chowder is my thing, so I was happy about that being good.The red beans and rice didnt suck, but I wouldn't order them again . Food was very salty. I liked the catfish because it wasn't heavily breaded, but the steamed veggies were SOOOOOO salty. Entree was around $12. Big portion sizes rightfully for its price. I also had the New England clam chowder which was salty as well. I left the restaurant with a pounding headache. Probably won't be back, but this place was special for my friend (elderly friend ~65 y/o) because she comes here every Sunday with her family. I could see that there were a lot of other elderly regulars too cause waitresses were greeting them by first name basis as they walked through the door. Pretty awesome. I didn't have really high expectations of this restaurant, however, the experience I had dining there was disappointing. For the drink, I had a glass of their sangria, I liked it. To start we had the white clam chowder which was good, but tasted like it was from canned soup. Then the main entries, my husband ordered surf and turf with the top sirloin and grilled shrimp, I ordered a yellowfin tuna steak from the special. Both of us could not finish our food, not because we were too full, but because the food really didn't taste ok. The steak was too rubbery and my tuna was so fishy! It was by far the worst fish steak I have ever had in a restaurant. I don't understand how you can mess up on a supposedly a very tasty fish steak. Maybe it was not that fresh? We randomly stopped here after a hot hot day at the Renaissance Faire. Mind you I'm not that familiar with this area but my friend happens to live nearby and her friend recommended we go here for an early dinner (and because we were slow roasting in the sun at the Faire). We all readily agreed because we were too hot and wanted to stop buying overpriced food at the faire. There wasn't a line when we got there (granted it was before 6pm so it was mostly seniors) and they have their own private parking lot so it was convenient. The portions are pretty generous- basically our whole table (and there were 6 of us) all ordered variations of the same dish- Merchant's Grub, which comes with 3 large shrimp and one fish (fried of course). It also comes with 2 sides so I got the rice pilaf (always a fave of mine) and steamed veggies (in an attempt to be healthy after eating evil food at the faire). The shrimps were pretty large and breaded nicely- they were my favorite. The fish was good too and they had a nice cocktail sauce too. The rice pilaf was tasty and there's not much I can say really about steamed veggies y'all. The price was pretty good too as it was about $10 per person for all that food, normally I could probably order a larger dish but I was too hot that day so I didn't want to eat too much. All in all not a bad place if you love seafood and shrimp- if I was ever back in the area I would definitely stop by again. read more

Some friends brought us here for dinner after a day at The Huntington Library. The shrimp was tasty and not over cooked or breaded too much. They have a meal combo where you can get 2-4 jumbo shrimp with 2 sides for about 10-15 bucks. That night is spent 65 bucks with tip on 4 meals/appetizer for my friends and a beer which is pretty good. They missed my 5 stars because of the attentiveness of the staff. After being seated we were waiting FOREVER! Picture 4 people who are starving and waiting for someone to take you order. My lady was getting HANGRY and that's not a good combo for anyone haha. I had seen the positive Yelp recommendations, and the place was crowded (but still east to get parking), so thought it was going to be a good meal. Boy was I wrong. The good: -the fries are good, and large servings too -I tried a scallop from my wife: also nice The bad: -I ordered a combo that came with 3 "jumbo" shrimp, since this is a shrimp house. These things were terrible. They weren't jumbo at all - just average size shrimp with a LOT of batter. I ended up pealing off most of the batter (something which I never do at other places), but still couldnt taste the shrimp. It was really bland. I guess they buy ultra cheap shrimp and cover it with a crap load of batter to hide the lack of taste. Worst shrimp I have EVER had without a doubt. Also, without a combo, a pair of jumbo shrimp is $8.50!! WTF!! If these are the jumbo shrimp, I'd hate to see how small the regular ones are. -The fish wasn't that much better. Again, way too much batter that I had to try to peel most off. It was tasteless and dry. Disgusting Service was okay - they were polite, but since the restaurant was so busy, they didn't really give our table much time. Our sodas didnt get filled until we requested. It's possible that I just got unlucky, or maybe since I was on the late side and the place was busy that night, they just ran out of fresh seafood and decided to serve some stuff that they found in the very back crevices of their freezer. Tried this restaurant for the very first time tonight and it was delicious! I got there 30 minutes before closing time but the workers there were nice enough to not rush me. They provided very good service and the food came out extremely fast. Surprisingly, it wasn't burnt/overcooked! I ordered the shrimp linguine dish, I believe. It was about 12-13$ and it came with a side of your choice (salad or calm chowder). I tried both the salad and chowder and they were pretty tasty. I drive by this little restaurant everytime I drive from my home to my parents home and never thought of giving it a try. Then I decided to go more seafood pescatarian type of restaurants and realized this is probably a good place to try to satisfy my new cravings. That jumbo shrimp is like a regular shrimp on steroids. The clam that everyone talks about is the bomb.com. It was super flavorful. Didn't expect that for this place since it is situated in the unofficial Chinatown we call Arcadia. The shrimp was decently good but when I feel that if a little spice would have kicked it up to another level, then they should have thought of that too. The batter was good but bland. We got the captain Paul's combo which came with: -clam chowder -shrimp salad -side (I chose red beans and rice) -fish filet -two large shrimp -three fried scallops And then shrimp scampi linguini, which comes with soup or salad. The salads were not restaurant quality, just standard cheap salad with cheap dressing. Mine came with a ton of teeny little shrimps on it, which actually looked quite unappetizing. The chowder was decent, but I've had better and it's nothing special... The breaded and deep fried fish, shrimp, and scallops were all quite mediocre and not as crispy as I would've liked. They had a bit of a chewy element where I would've preferred sharp and crispy skin. But they tasted okay enough to eat. Scallops were definitely way too chewy/rubbery though. The rice and beans were alright too but not my favorite. The pasta was tasty! Had plenty of sauce and shrimp scampi but the noodles were overcooked and the shrimp were a tad overcooked as well. The food was more than enough for two, but the total came out to a little over $30 for both of these. The service was probably the best thing about this place. Very cute decorations around this restaurant. I came in for lunch and ordered the 6 medium fried shrimp and for my sides I got French fries and coleslaw . The fried shrimp itself was pretty good...but the coleslaw was pretty plain. I tried it because I saw great reviews about it here on Yelp but I thought it didn't have much flavor. Oh well , the fries were okay too just like your typical French fries . No complaints on the shrimp or service . Laura, my server was so attentive and accommodating!! She brought me 3 different salad dressings to try, my ice tea was never empty, and she steered me to order the best value for my money! I had the Sunday Special, which was a steal for the amount of really good tasting food! The salad was crisp and fresh (fyi, the thousand island and ranch were my favorites,) the lobster tail was buttery and delicious, and my medium rare top sirloin was perfect!! All for $21.00!!! What a gem! I placed a takeout order for an admiral plate, fishermen plate and a pint of New England clam chowder to go. Due to traffic I didn't get home until almost an hour later so I had to reheat some of the food and it was still surprisingly delicious. The shrimp, fish and scallops were still Crispy on the outside tender juicy and succulent on the inside. I asked for the fries well done so they stood up to the drive. The side dishes rice pilaf and veggies (a bit over cooked for my liking but great seasoning) were still tasty. Should have asked for more seafood sauce. Maybe we were just so hungry but the clam chowder was delicious, full of clans, creamy and flavorful. Looking forward to enjoy the food on site or another take out. This place is a gem! I've been living in the 626 for majority of my life and didn't realize that this place was just around the corner of my home! I wish I could give this place more stars because it definitely blew my socks off. The service here is on point, and the atmosphere is super cozy. I love the diner feel to the restaurant and how they added decorations to give it that Oceanside feel. Our server was super generous, and when we couldn't decide which soup/sides we wanted, she gave us a small sample to help with our decision. That is definitely great customer service and I shall always remember it! The menu has a wide variety of selections. It's decently priced, and the portions are just right. You really get your bang for your buck here so that's a plus in my book! What we ordered: Fried Zucchini: Nom! You really can never go wrong with fried zucchini. It was delicious and I like how it wasn't oily. Some places I've been too serve oily battered ones so I'm glad this one wasn't like that. Also, if it's just the two of you, a small portion is a good size! Sides we had: Clam Chowder, Coleslaw, Mixed Vegies, and Shrimp Salad- All very good! My favorites were the chowder and coleslaw! A must order if you go there. The shrimp salad was your basic salad with miniature shrimps on it but they were generous with that so don't worry about only eating a mouth full of lettuce. The vegies were lightly salted ( I think it was steamed or boiled) but if you're looking for a healthier alternative, you should go with that. Fried Fish- NOM! It was perfect! The batter on the fish wasn't thick at all but it still gave it that good crunch with a soft ending. So delicious! I devoured everything. Jumbo Shrimp and Scallop- Super good! This place great. Just don't expect anything fancy or glamorous. The restaurant is also clean and comfortable. You're coming here for delicious fried shrimp. On that note is suggest getting the large shrimp and not the jumbo I shrimp. I find it to be better value and to me the size isn't too far off. I enjoy their cocktail sauce but I usually stick to ketchup for my dipping needs. They also have tarter sauce if you ask. The sides are basic. I usually get rice pilaf and a salad. because I don't want to go overboard on the fried food with fries. The salad is actually fantastic here. Its a classic diner dinner salad that is properly chilled and a good dressing selection. They also have a decent draft beer selection. The service is also good and I've never had a problem. shrimp house has been on my bookmark list for awhile just because they have shrimp scampi and lots of people rave about the clam chowder. my boyfriend and i decided to finally make it happen. so we pulled in around 9:20pm on a saturday night and there was a party of 5 and us. the place was pretty empty with two female servers. we ordered the surf and turf which comes with steak [medium], shrimp scampi, & it came with a choice of 2 sides and ours was fries & rice pilaf. the plates they came in reminded me so much of NORMS. there was 4 pieces of shrimp and now maybe if i never tried RED LOBSTERS shrimp scampi i would've liked theirs but the the red lobster version is so much more flavorful. the steak also reminded me of norms. it definitely needs to be dipped in ketchup or A1 to give it flavor. french fries reminded me of norms or JIM BURGERS. clam chowder bowl [boston style ...white]. there was barely any clams or potatoes. it was mostly liquid. my boyfriend and i both thought it was just "ok" flavor wise. i can't believe that people on yelp said it was yummy! they haven't tried anything yet. once again i hate to say this but red lobster rendition of everything we ordered here was a lot better unfortunately. and i always root for the little guy/under dog! the coke that we got had a lot of bite to it. it was so crispy! what we both really liked is the service. they were both really nice and would check up on us. darlene was the one that was helping us and she was really sweet! there's plenty of parking. the decor was neat! & i'm giving them a 3 stars because of the great service! i didn't like the yelp check in special because its $5 off 2 entrees and 2 drinks. that's a lot of food for two people. but overall this place was okay. read more

Shrimp, Shrimp Everywhere!! This is a great place for shrimp lovers. My family and I like to come here in the evenings and order the fried shrimp dinners. The jumbo shrimp are MASSIVE but the medium shrimp are more normal sized. Of course they have a lot of seafood on the menu but they also have a section with other options which is nice. The server we had this last time we went was awesome! We had this lady who was very attentive and sweet and always made sure we had everything we needed. Even after we had ordered and then we asked her if we could order to-go for my dad there was no problem, she was on it. I had the 5 medium shrimp lunch special and my mom had a jumbo shrimp plate. My shrimp looked small compared to her's but they were still good. I ordered the coleslaw and the mixed vegetables, but I wouldn't recommend getting the mixed veg because they were boiled and flavorless. The coleslaw was good though. And my favorite thing about eating shrimp here is combining their yummy cocktail sauce with the awesome spicy mustard they have on the table. Dip your shrimp in this = Super NOM!! The fries are really good here too and the green salad is a nice side if you are looking for something lighter. Usually it's no problem to walk in and find a seat, the restaurant is pretty big. The lobster was minced rather than diced or chopped and seemed almost non existent. I had a $2 glass of Cabernet Sauvignon which was stiff & went well with my meal. Sayra, our waitress was sooo chill & helpful. In all honesty, this place feels like what the Krusty Krab would look like if it was non animated and real. Went in yesterday after almost 10 years, I used to help as a buss girl during lent season and loved the food then, and decided to stop by with my husband and got service from Laura. We ordered fried zucchini, breaded shrimp, shrimp salad and surf n turf steak with more shrimp. Delicious as always!!! I literally am eating the leftovers right now. I love the ambience. I remember as a young girl, my dad would always take us to eat there when the walls where beautifully painted by one of the waitresses. Now it's been revamped to this sailor boat house look. I dig it. Delicious food, great service and the feeling of comfort. Must I add that while sitting there, a gentleman behind us chatted up with one of the servers, and told her it was his first time in since the Valley location closed. He too loved the food!!! haven't been here to dine in person since before the pandemic. Since the pandemic, I guess the size of the shrimp they used to be able to get has dwindled a lot to smaller sized shrimp. The steak I had was tough. The waitress blamed the pandemic on supply chain issues. I'm willing to wait until the pandemic is over to try again and see if the quality improves any. Our waitress Itsel-think that's how you spell her name- was just the sweetest and since it was our first time there she explained everything so whatever we ordered was to our standards. Shrimp House is over 10 miles from our home, and some evenings it takes as much as a half-hour to drive there. Yet, it seems that about every two weeks my wife and I end up enjoying a meal there. It started back when they were in Claremont. When they closed that store we were disappointed until years later we discovered them at their current location. We are treated like family. The service is mostly superb. On a bad day, it's still pretty good. We have never had to wait for a table, though sometimes the place is nearly full. Besides fried shrimp, they offer grilled shrimp, codfish filets, scallops, Boston and NY clam chowders, crab salad, and quite a few other things -- even steak. And their steak isn't what you would expect from a medium-range shrimp place. It's really good. (Not Morton's good, but better than Sizzler ever was.) Nearly every entreé comes with sides: salad, steamed veggies, rice pilaf, beans and rice mixed in a bowl, fries. If you want really good seafood, this is your place. The prices are in the mid-teens, more-or-less depending on what you choose. Monday night steak and shrimp special is less than you'll pay for either one alone at most casual dining places. Tomorrow is Valentines Day. I just called. They don't take reservations. We're still planning to go there. read more

Love the atmosphere inside this place - really makes you feel like you're in an old diner. Food varied for me though. Fries - Liked Clam Chowder soup (white) - LOVED! Veggies - Liked Scallops - Loved Pasta - Liked Fried butterfly shrimp and chips - Really Liked I took Scallops home to go, and they really need to get a better way to bag this stuff. They just had it on a plate wrapped with aluminum foil, so the sauce dripped all over the bag. I don't get why they didn't box it, like other orders I've gotten to go. I've lived in Arcadia for almost 15 years and was always curious about Shrimp House since I always drive by it. I finally had the chance to come here for lunch. The interior is sail boat style. For appetizer, we ordered shrimp cocktail and shrimp ceviche tostada. The shrimp cocktail had tiny shrimp! They have various lunch specials so I ordered the merchants combo which included 2 golden fried large shrimp, 1 fish filet and two sides. The sides I chose were French fries and red beans & rice. The fried foods were fried well because I didn't notice much grease. As for the flavor, it was lacking. The rice didn't seem freshly made. My boyfriend ordered the Monday special but never got his side of veggies. We noticed halfway through the meal but didn't bother asking because the food didn't make us crave more. read more

I came here base on the Yelp reviews and is nearby my workplace. Service is very attentive and everything came on time and quick. The oysters I had is the best for this price compare with other place. It is very creamy and fresh, the grille fish and two sides are good if you need quick seafood lunch around the area.
