Ordered from here on a whim on my way to Arcadia. I've lived there for 11 years and pretty annoyed at myself for missing out since then. The atmosphere is great, naturally lit up by the sunlight, so it doesn't feel gloomy at all. Genuinely feels like a restaurant by the pier. I only did takeout but I would love to dine indoors once COVID blows over. The workers were all very friendly and they enforce COVID rules very well. They were very attentive and even though I was already helped, one of them wanted to make sure I was attended to. The food came out super fast! Lunch special is a pretty good deal, so I ordered the six piece shrimp. It comes with two sides, so it's very filling. The food is delicious and the service is quick and friendly. Our server, Itsel, recommended the Steak, Shrimp & Lobster plate. Everything was cooked perfectly and portions were generous. Itsel also made sure that our drinks were full and that we were happy with our meal. You can even catch MLB playoff games here without the sports bar atmosphere which is nice because you can still dine with friends and family while keeping an eye on the game. We've been coming here for years but this last visit yesterday will be our last! First, the clam chowder was Luke warm at best and not flavorful at all. I ordered the fish tacos with a salad. The salad was lettuce (some wilted) thrown on a plate. The fish tacos had NO flavor and tortillas were not warm. I took two bites and couldn't eat anymore. My boyfriend ordered the large shrimp and said they were ok. Our waiter was not very attentive but the food is why we are rating it 2 stars! My family and I frequent the Shrimp house quiet often. When we dine IN it's always great. Just the other day we were there and ordered a small order of Zucchini fries, which is one of my favorites at the Restaurant. Needless to say, I had my mouth watering for some, on my way home from work today, but it is only me. So I walk in and order a small order of Zucchini fries to go. The waitress tells me, "We only do the large order to go." Came here with a party of six. It's definitely your mom and pops style seafood restaurant. The food was ok for the price but can't say anything really stood out to me. We shared a couple bowls of the clam chowder. I would recommend the white clam chowder and to steer away from the red. I got the Sailor's Choice which was a combo of deep fried fish, shrimp, and scallops. It definitely hit the spot for my fish and chips craving but pretty standard. My biggest complaint was the service and cleanliness. We had several utensils and bowls that were still dirty. One spoon still had a lipstick imprint on it. Oh man, what have I been missing?! I've been living near the Shrimp House forever and always wanted to try it when I drive by it but never did. I finally tried it today and it was so delicious. My kids loved the fried cod fish and I thought they were great too. I also got the combo with the grill cod, scallop skewer, and shrimp skewer. Everything was delicious. I've never bothered to stop by and it never crossed my mind to come here until now. Oh how I truly regret waiting for sooooo long to finally come in here! FOOD - 4 Stars: So, we tried a few things, which I was really excited to do after exploring the menu: Coconut Shrimp - This was really good because every bite was crispy with coconut and the sweet and sour sauce gave it that extra bump of contrasting flavor. I kept popping those coconut shrimp like it was popcorn! Shrimp Ceviche - The ceviche was on pretty good and comparable to any other local place, but the portion size was a bit on the small side. Sunday Special - This was amazing! A steak, two fried shrimp, and two small lobster tails. It also comes with two sides and I chose a salad to be good and some French fries to be bad. Haha. My steak was tender and delicious. The fried shrimp and lobster tails tasted perfect with each dip of butter. This is a great deal... I'm not gonna lie. The price is right, the taste is right, and everything was right. I was full! SERVICE - 4 Stars: The waitresses were attentive and answered whatever questions I had. They were friendly, but the one thing that was weird was when they cleaned the tables. They have these old school plates that are pretty heavy and sturdy. When you toss a couple of them together to clear a table, it can make a pretty loud noise. Now let's have them clear a table where five people were sitting. Yes, it can get pretty noisy. Very noisy actually. I was surprised no one else noticed unless thats the norm there. ATMOSPHERE - 4 Stars: This is a pretty unique place. It's not modern or anything like that. It's kind of frozen in time (in a good way) and has kept it's own character. Shrimp House has actually been used for a lot of TV show and movie shoots. So, that tells you something about how the place looks and feels. Totally laid back with a personality of its own. RECOMMENDATION: Since I've missed out on many years of eating food here, I will definitely be back A LOT to make up for lost time. They have specials pretty much everyday (or at lest most days) from what I saw. If anyone is in the area, they should take a chance on this place because it's a special experience with great food! I have been coming here for ages! Back in the day when it was known as Shrimp Ahoy, my Grandpa loved getting takeout from here and we'd always get the Fisherman's Delight. The service was always friendly and it was always a solid meal. Fast forward to now and we came here because we had a restaurant. com coupon and were feeling pretty nostalgic. We were seated quickly and our drink orders were taken. I decided to go with the tried and true fried shrimp meal. I loved their shrimp years ago and was curious if it was the same as I remembered. Our salads came out quickly and so did our meals. The shrimp were the oxymoron I always remembered them to be. The largest shrimp I have ever seen and tasty too. I always loved their cocktail sauce and the recipe hadn't changed all these years later. I was really impressed by how they kept all the same recipes. I first came to this place as a teenager. I had fond memories of delicious golden fried shrimp, so when a friend told me he wanted to try the place out I had no hesitations. This place was terrible. Why did I love it so much as a 15 year old? I'm guessing because I didn't know any better. My "restaurant" diet had up until that point really just consisted of fast food like McDonalds. 15 years later, and it's by far one of the worst places I've ever eaten. Ordered the Krabby cakes, which I'm sure are spelled with a "K" because it's not real crab and they're cooked from frozen. The Lobster Mac and Cheese sounded promising, and it wasn't that bad. However, it was obvious it'd been sitting under a heat lamp somewhere. The noodles and congealed cheese had a layer of oil on top. I opted for the Chipotle shrimp, not expecting my "golden fried" shrimp to be drenched in cold "chipotle sauce." The issue with putting shrimp in a sauce bath is that they're no longer golden fried but a large pile of mush. Any time I went to grab a shrimp, the shrimp fell back to the plate while the layer of breading stayed on my fork or between my fingers. I didn't even end up eating them. The veggies that came with it? Complete mush of broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. Not one bit of crunch left them. Clam chowder was abysmal. Maybe I got spoiled going to school across from Fisherman's Wharf in the bay, but Shrimp House's clam chowder lacked clams, flavor, and was watery. read more

Great food, great value, great service and a great time...what else can I say? Found this place on Yelp and it was perfect since we couldn't decide on dinner. I wanted steak but was OK with seafood too. Shrimp House offered both plus it was relatively nearby. It was a busy Saturday night so we had to wait for about 15 minutes which was to be expected. Our server was so friendly and so was everyone else. You can tell they take great pride in their work. The crab and bay shrimp cocktail was tasty and generous. I had Captain (Paul's?) Deluxe which came with soup, salad, a mixture of fried seafood and a side...all for under $15 no joke! I'm looking forward to a return visit soon. This is a neighborhood gem. I decided to go to shrimp house/shrimp ahoy ( why are there 2 names?!) due to the 4 star review on yelp and discount I got from coupons. On the way there, i already knew this probably wasn't the best decision. its in a near sketch area and is really easy to miss. we were told to sit wherever we wanted. we chose a booth which to no surprise.....were sticky seats. Ordered the cup of chowder was uneventful, thick and creamy with the slightest hint of clams. Its pretty much canned soup that's warmed up. Okay at this point, I'm waiting for my entree which was the Sunday special of Steak, lobster tail and shrimp. Wow, how can you mess this up?.. I guess when there's a will, there's a way. I still ate it... cause i was starving... but it was not good... and it should just not be served, ever. This place reminded me of a Denny's with an early bird special near a retirement home. The food is ok. We got the shrimp specials with 2 Jumbo shrimp which we were told were a good size. They weren't. Everything is fried here and not very well I might add. It's almost like all they do is have a giant vat of boiling oil in the back, someone orders something, and BAM their meal is done. There's just nothing that stands out about it. The tables were dirty (not really acceptable in a table service restaurant IMHO) and the servers were slow and inattentive. Would I go back here? Probably not. Ran into this place -starving on my way home from work. I was on the phone (hands free ) and my friend was talking about frying up some extra large shrimps. Going south on LiveOak, while we're talking, out of nowhere appeared , "The Shrimp House". It was like my friend spoke it into existence. The place has a old school coffee shop on the beach vibe to it. It took me a minute to order cause all the combination plates on tthe menu looked good.So I went in on what every first timer should, the sampler. This sampler gives you almost everything on the menu ,"Captain Pauls Sampler". It was cool, but I didn't like the fact that the fish was COD and you couldn't make substitution- even if you were willing to pay. New England Clam chowder is my thing, so I was happy about that being good.The red beans and rice didnt suck, but I wouldn't order them again . Food was very salty. I liked the catfish because it wasn't heavily breaded, but the steamed veggies were SOOOOOO salty. Entree was around $12. Big portion sizes rightfully for its price. Probably won't be back, but this place was special for my friend (elderly friend ~65 y/o) because she comes here every Sunday with her family.
