This place has been here my whole life. I still come in for a pastrami every once and a while. It's served on a torpedo roll which in not conventional but it works. Pastrami is more on the lean side which is nice for a change. Staff is typical Mom and Pop. Vibe is hole in the wall. All in all though...they put out a decent sandwich. read more

Back again, food is just as good. As always, the value is amazing here. As of today, they have a quarter pound hamburger combo for 899. Any other burger place is at least $13. I'd define this as a gem of a hole in the wall. First off the place is kind of dirty and it kinda looks like a house. When it comes to the food though the quality is top notch. French Fries - crispy golden brown, perfectly seasoned (9/10) Hoagie Steak and Cheese Hot Sub - this is an absolute must get. The meat was a tad sweet and tangy but also had this good balance of salt. With the vegetables and cheese really makes this a complete sandwich. (10/10) Chicken Teriyaki Bowl - this is a standard bowl but honestly it was pretty tasty. Seemed like fresh chicken breast smothered in sauce. Basic but quality ingredients. Undersalted but balanced out the saltiness of the pastrami. For a Saturday lunch it was pretty empty so despite the small parking lot there was plenty of parking available. Jack's Sub was one of those places that I always passed by but never tried during the decades when I lived in El Monte. Wow, have I been missing out!! If you can only order one thing from here, the hoagie steak and cheese hot sub is the way to go. The marinated beef is soo good and reminds me of Korean BBQ short rib meat. The large order at $9.39 is such a deal! If the hoagie steak and cheese is off the menu, the teriyaki chicken hot sub ($7.99 for a large) is a good runner-up. The pieces of chicken are juicy and lean. The teriyaki sauce is delicious. But if the hoagie is there, sorry teriyaki chicken, I'd have to go with the hoagie instead, but you're not a bad second choice. BF and I have ordered a large side of fries ($3.59) to pair with the sandwich every time we've come. They fry it fresh after we order and it has the right combination of size, texture, and taste. I haven't been here since I was in High School back in 1994 and I decide to try it for old time sake . I can't believe how good everything still taste and the prices are so reasonable. I had the small fried burrito about $1.59 each Exactly how it sounds ,still good and crunchy I also ordered the onion rings (beer battered) Yummy ,that how I normally like them . I also had the Pastrami sandwich ,did not disappoint,Bread so fresh and the pastrami meat had the right amount of flavor, fresh provolone cheese. After finishing a job, me and my coworker were heading back to the shop already wondering what we're going to have for lunch. A quick Yelp search yielded this place which was on our way back. Noticing the great reviews intrigued us enough to stop by and try out their lunch specials. On the outside it is a humble mom and pop diner. Parking was small but there were spaces. Going inside it was also very humble looking. But from these appearances hides great sandwiches for me and my coworker to discover. We both ordered the Pastrami combo which was a 6 inch sub sandwich, with fries, and a 20 oz drink of your choice. I was excited that they carried Orange Bang in their selection of drinks! Going back to the shop we sat down and had our lunch. My first bite told me the bread was fresh and toasted while the Pastrami was full of salty goodness counter balanced by the sour crunchy pickles complimented by the Provolone cheese slices. Every bite was awesome. The fries were nice and crispy while my Orange Bang took me back to my childhood days of enjoying this drink. What a great afternoon for lunch! Came here for lunch for the first time after driving by it for over a year. I called in the order and gave the lady over the phone my order (6" Steak Haogie and Cheese and a small order of onion ring". At the end of ordering, she just said thank you and hung up. Normally, I would give them my name or number, but not here! Lol. They have a small parking lot, but if you plan yo go back North, I'd recommend parking in the side street. Once you walk in, you smell oil! This is expected, as fries and onion rings were tossed in the fryer non-stop. I got here about 15 minutes after ordering and it was just being packed as I arrived. The lady did not tel me an ETA, so you may want to ask. Steak Haogie w/ cheese - Another yelper said it was like bulgogi and I wasn't sure what they meant until I tasted it. It tasted exactly like bulgogi! Don't expect your typical sandwich here, but there was nothing bad about it. Meat was not chewy, it was flavorfully marinated and the tomatoes and lettuce were fresh. The 6" itself was a pretty good size already, so if you also order a small onion ring or fries, that should be good enough. Onion Rings - Nice and crispy, not much more to say. It came with a side of ranch. Overall, food was pretty good. Nothing bad to say about it. Total came out to exactly 9.99 for the 6" steak and cheese and a small onion ring. They top it with lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, and mayo. The bread was really good! Fresh, soft, with a good chewiness to it. The amount of meat was just perfect, as were the toppings. I would and will be getting this again. Then I went for the Bonanza. It's another cold sub, this time with Ham, Turkey, Roast Beef, Avacado, and Swiss. Again topped with Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, Onion, and Mayo. I just have to say this was really good as well. In fact, I don't know which one I liked better. I am always searching for a good sandwich spot, and it seems to be harder and harder to find recently. My scale starts with Subw** as being the standard at a solid 3 stars. Jack's Sub easily cruises into the 4 star range, even 4.5 if I could. Not quite a 5 since I think the facility should play a role in a 5 star rating, but the food is on point! I was craving for pastrami the other day and was hoping for a place that is closer then The Hat. I type on Google and found this place. Not gonna lie, this place looks run down as hell but the pastrami sandwich is amazing. I ordered a small fries as well which is not bad. There was only one staff who take orders and cook that day and he speaks broken English so you have to patient and ask him to repeat again if you don't get what he's saying. However, After demolishing my cheeseburger I definitely felt the need to say this isn't your typical place. It's very homey and simple. The food is exceptional and the people who run it are extremely good people. This sandwich/teriyaki/burger joint is on a nondescript corner in a quiet neighborhood. It doesn't look like much on the outside, but had offers great stuff. I usually can't get full on a foot long sun at other places, but here I can barely finish one. The Jack's sub and Italian sub were tasty, fresh, flavorful, full of meat, cheese and veggies. Prices are a little throwback - your dollar goes far here and the menu list price is the price at the register - no tax! Even nicer is that it looks like a family run business with loyal clientele. The customer in front of me looked at the young teenager working the register and said to another older staff lady - "I've been coming here so long and remember when he was just this tall!"
