Came in because of the bday offer on Facebook. I would have never heard of or known of it otherwise. We were a small party of 2 on a Monday night at 6pm. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of to- go orders and other folks dining in. When you walk in, it has that old diner feel with ship decor. They have a private parking lot behind the restaurant. Super mellow place. Our waitress looks like she loves her job and has possibly worked there over 15yrs. I had the Monday special and my friend had the shrimp scampi. I regret not taking a photo of daily specials menu. I was delightfully surprised by how good my food was. Not photographed: we had calamari as an appetizer. Everything was flavorful, especially the grilled shrimp and the red beans and rice. I was able to try both red and white chowders and I'm still a fan of the white/ clam chowder. I was also given a rainbow sherbert for my bday on the house. This was also tasty. Thank you! This was the first time me and my man went here for late lunch. First impressions were a little off for me. We were greeted but the staff didn't direct us properly to where we're going to seat. The staff just pointed in a direction and me and my man just walked in that direction and figured where to sit. It was awkward. We have a mix thought regarding the food. I ordered the steak and lobster which is market priced. I had it for $36 as a Sunday special and unfortunately, it wasn't worth it. The size of the lobster was not I was expecting and it was just the tail portion which is small. The lobster tail was not seasoned enough which tasted bland for me even the melted butter didn't help. I asked for a medium rare for my steak but they served me a rare one. When I sliced into the steak the blood like liquid came out from it and I can still see the pink color. It was hard to eat and it was too chewy. I had to excuse myself to the bathroom. I felt like I threw money on the drain. My man ordered the captain special for $20 and it was "ok" which made me wish I ordered that same one. I feel like it's a "hit or miss" for their menu, so I recommend to come here if you have extra money or you're not on a budget because we paid over $116 and I wasn't full and was still hungry. We ended up going to another restaurant that was worth it. On the bright side, I do recommend the coconut shrimp appetizer, the clam chowder was also good. The fried coconut banana was a hit for me for dessert. The view of the restaurant was ok. The seating was a little packed. Also, if you're ever going to use the bathroom just a heads up that the light is on timer, so If you're taking a while try not to panic if the light goes off. The sensor will be near the door so you have to go to it and activate the sensor. I personally would come back for the fried coconut banana split and the coconut shrimp as to go. I rate this place 3/5. Not too amazing but an "ok" experience. Another comment I have regarding the cleanliness of the restaurant. I looked at the edges of the windows and seats and there's dust and you can tell that management doesn't check the cleanliness of the restaurant before they open. This restaurant lacks standards. Basic hygiene standards like this do make me question if the kitchen is clean. I wouldn't take my family here, there was a homeless man with an overwhelming stench who came in and it took time for the staff to handle the situation. Not even sure if a manager was close by. I think there should be a staff at the door so situations like this can be managed and monitored properly. read more

Hands down the best clam chowder I have ever had! If you are looking for a rich, creamy bowl of chowder that is filled with healthy chunks of clam, then Shrimp House is the place you need to go to! I arrived here at on Friday night at 6:30pm and it was packed and crowded! Luckily they have a sizable parking lot in the back, otherwise, it would be a slight hassle coming here. All the dishes were amazing! Super crunchy and warm zucchini fries (you probably only need a half order since it's MASSIVE). Their chowder, again, is amazing. And all their entrees are great and cooked to perfection. Service was great as well! Super friendly and attentive as they constantly came by to fill up waters or clear plates. My mom was going on and on about how much she enjoyed this place. She had eaten here a week earlier with her girlfriends and raves about the food. So I went with her try it for myself l. First off, let me say that the service was impeccable!! 5 stars there!! But the ambiance is a little dark and dingy. Like they decorated in 1963 and never upgraded since then. The prices are decent and affordable. As for the food, my mom would give it 5 stars but she's not the one reviewing it. I would give it 3. I told my mom that the food is flavored for senior citizens who have to watch their salt intake. And while we were there EVERY single booth had older people having dinner, including my 81 year old mom. They say that they make most items homemade but I didn't get that homemade taste. The whitefish and large shrimp tastes like water to me. When I say I was chewing but couldn't taste anything...it tastes like water. The popcorn shrimp did have seasoning, but that's it. The red beans and the clam chowder taste like they come from a can. The apple cobbler saved the day!! It was delicious!! Would I come back again?? Maybe but only to try more of their deserts. Came here for my birthday, I grew up eating here with my grandparents. Fried shrimp was 10/10 as always, zucchini is divine, always my favorite. I love their salad too. I was relieved to taste that nothing has changed as I did hear they got new owners. There used to be this lady that worked there with blonde hair she was always so kind and always working and I didn't see her, I hope she's doing well! Try this place if you haven't. This is what beige tastes like. I got the fish tacos and they were bland. Totally flavorless and no amount of toppings saved it. My boyfriend got the shrimp sampler and said they were just ok, nothing that good. We also got the blackberry sundae and that was pretty bad, the ice cream wasn't even good and it was a random scoop of bland berries, no whipped cream or anything. The place itself reminds me of an old school diner and was clean but the seats were tapped up. The service was good though. All in all I wouldn't return. The owner replied with this long list of reasons why the food wasn't good. The message felt as if it my fault. I didn't need that the "I'm sorry our food didn't meet your expectations" was enough. My family orders to go orders here often we have never had the fish be this bad. Again it was over cooked (charred). and I know fish and the fish we got was not good. This restaurant has been in business for decades. The booth dividers are a reminder that they survived Covid. I have not been there in many years since moving out of the area. However, it was worth the drive! The staff were perfectly friendly and helpful. The level of service was above average and we were waited on and served in a timely fashion. The food was hot and fresh. From the salad to the entrees, everything was very good. I recommend the grilled seafood platter. So was told that this place was great, saw the 4 star rating on yelp, so it must be pretty good. Since my Son and I were pretty busy running around town, we decided to order Togo and eat in the car, I ordered the shrimp scampi with linguini, along with a cup of clam chowder, my Son order the fish filet sandwich with a side of coleslaw. Let start with the good and work our way down, the clam chowder was great, not to thick, not to watery, flavor was on point, just a great tasting chowder. (New England style) The shrimp scampi with linguini was OK, nothing special, came with six pinky size shrimps and a small bread stick cut in 4's. The coleslaw was a little weak in flavor, could of used a little more mayo and maybe sugar or vinegar or maybe both, the worst and the most disappointing item was the fish filet sandwich, the taste was OK, but the fish filet was really small, my Son had to pull the top bun off to look for the filet and there it was, something that resembled a chicken tender, if they would of placed 2 filets on that sandwich, then definitely an additional star maybe given. Also, need to mention that the cashier never said thank you or have a good day, come again or anything, she just gave us our change and walked away. So with everything that was going on with this restaurant, I was OK with my clam chowder and linguini, but total fail for my Son's fish filet sandwich and coleslaw. I'm so sorry that it took me over 15 years to come here. I remember as a child always driving by and staring at this restaurant wondering what they served and now as an adult I finally made the trip over! The interior is very nicely decorated and the amazing smell of fried fish greets you as you walk in. My server was very pleasant and had me seated promptly. I ordered the lunch special 2 golden fried fish amd got the fries and boston clam chowder as my sides. The clam chowder was amazing and full of flavor and clams. The fries and the fish were also very tasty! The fish tasted very fresh and delicious. The waitress suggested the lava cake for dessert and oh my goodness, it was amazing!!!!! Nice and hot with some refreshing ice cream kn the side. I was stuffed! Would love to come back and try more items on the menu! I'm glad I finally made the visit, better late than never! read more

My dad took me here about 16 years ago, and he loved the shrimp and crab salad. He called it the Louie salad. He grew up in Seattle where he used to catch his own seafood, so he was very picky when it came to seafood. He liked how this place has real crab, and not the fake stuff. He passed away in 2018, and I decided to come in today for a seafood Louie salad! The place looks exactly the same. Staff was very friendly. Salad was great, and the seafood was fresh. I love going there and seeing the waitress I've seen for the better part of 20 years-kind, thoughtful, and provides incredible service. Today after a couple years I visited Shrimp House with my dear friend Mary and was served by the wonderful manager there. What a great experience. I am not a fish fan but the only fish I'll eat is Shrimp Houses Incredible Fish and Large Shrimp. It has to be experienced to be appreciated. Their secret breading recipe is something I'm still trying to figure out. Don't forget Tarter Sauce and Shrimp Sauce so decedent that he' Five the Galley's Special $15.95 with 2 large pieces of fish, two large and 2 sides--so much food! It was delicious! read more

At $11, you get 3 lg and a fried piece of fish with choice of 2 sides. Give me a choice of fried fish or fried shrimp, and I'll go for the shrimp every time. But the fried fish here is better than most seafood places in L.A.. 12 stepping never tasted so good. Step 9 tells us to make amends. I am unapologetic when it comes to each grub fest at the Shrimp House. I am so sorry that I had to come here with a friend today. I ordered a fish combo plate. It was on par with what your children would get in Jr high for lunch. Maybe a little lower quality that the sizzler. At least there, the beef would be okay. I know that there are alot of people that love this place. I just don't know why. I didn't order fresh fish. I got fried. I thought, at least the high cooking temp would kill any germs,, or parasites. So, my issue wasn't anything egregious. But, you might get better quality from Costco. At the beginning of the pandemic I wanted some shrimp and I wanted to support a local restaurant but sadly quality of the food was not good. On top of it, the service for pickup was rude (and there were no other guests picking up, it was just me, so it's not like the front of house was slammed). Unfortunately, in my experience, the food was really greasy and just mediocre in taste and flavor. Everything appears pretty decent at first glance (apart from the cole slaw that just looks sad) but it was masked by oil and it was not worth it. Even the side salad was wilting! Been enjoying meals & service here for years-me & my Hubs go-to special occasion spot, til last night. 1st time with food not as good as usual (watery ranch dressing, bland rice pilaf & fried & skewer shrimp, over-fried catfish, bland fried coconut banana) & had to ask for missing side order. Best thing about the night with the company I shared the evening with. Everyone's entitled to an off night. But it just seems like the prices got higher so that just added to not what I'm used to when we go to the Shrimp House. Generous amount of clams and the soup was piping hot even after digging in for a while! -Jumbo Shrimp (4 pcs) with 2 sides (Vegetables & Coleslaw) - I probably wouldn't order these fried shrimp again. A little underwhelming. The vegetables tasted as a standard diner side would, and the coleslaw was good (on the sweet side). -Grilled Seafood Sampler with 2 sides (French Fries & Salad) - I didn't expect the shrimp & scallops to be so small, but all the seafood tasted pretty fresh. The salad reminds me of Norm's and French Fries were standard. Overall experience was: food was okay & service was good. We love going to Shrimp House! We've never had to wait for a seat, the staff is always friendly and curious, and we always enjoy our food (especially for the price!). It's a cute little spot where you wouldn't expect to find such great seafood for such a reasonable price, yet there it is. I personally go with the tilapia every time I go because it's always seasoned well, tastes fresh, and is a hearty portion for the price (especially if you can go for the lunch special times). I have eaten at this business for 40 years. When they were in El Monte and then moved here, the place has changed very little, if at all. Still the same great fried shrimp, wonderful chowder and excellent service. The family has not changed the quality, even after Covid. Nick has done his best to keep prices reasonable even with cost increases and wage issues. I realize it can be a bit tiring after so many years but still one of my favorites to go to when I'm in the area. I have never been disappointed. Great service from all the staff. read more
