We stopped by Noodle Topia for dinner while we were in the area, fully expecting a tiny hole-in-the-wall spot...only to walk inside and find a surprisingly spacious restaurant with cozy decor and a warm atmosphere. Total plot twist. The place was pretty quiet with only a few diners, so service was steady, though a little slow at times. We ordered the veggie noodles, cucumber salad, lamb skewers, xianbing pancake, and juicy pork dumplings. Overall, the food was decent and comfortably average, but honestly, we were just excited to finally find a Szechuan-style Chinese restaurant nearby. The veggie noodles were the clear winner of the night: chewy, flavorful, and coated in a sauce that had us going back for bite after bite. I could've done without the bok choy, though, and I wish the noodles had been a little less oily. The cucumber salad leaned much sweeter than we expected and was swimming in a bit too much soy sauce for our taste. The pork dumplings were nice and juicy inside, but the wrappers were slightly too doughy. Now the lamb skewers? Absolutely delicious. Great flavor, good portion size, and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The biggest disappointment, unfortunately, was the xianbing pancake. It didn't feel authentic at all. The crepe was way too thick, and the crispy crackers inside had lost all crunch and turned soggy instead. The pork soup dumplings were so brothy and warm, and the beef soup had a lighter flavor than expected, but was still SO good nonetheless (would recommend adding a bit of chili oil and soy sauce though)! I also LOVED the noodles; they had the best texture and length in the Metro-Detroit area. When it comes to service, there's definitely a "hands-off" approach, as you order via a QR code and a machine brings your dishes to you. Really enjoyed my takeout meal from Noodle Topia. Pickup was easy and quick. The soup was very large and had a ton of noodles! Definitely a couple meals worth. Szechuan noodle soup has great flavor and the perfect amount of spice. It seems very oily but I assume that's how it's supposed to be. The addition of the chives and cilantro helps make this soup delicious and flavorful! But it's definitely all about the handmade noodles! Phenomenal! The general Tsos chicken was very spicy but it was good. The fried rice reminds me of a Chinese place you get food from in a mall cafeteria. First of all, don't let the outside and exterior ambiance fool you. The building and parking lot could use some TLC, but once you step inside, the food and experience more than make up for it. We ordered the green onion pancake, pork dumplings, and the spicy wonton soup. Everything was absolutely amazing, but the spicy wonton soup was the standout. The broth was out of this world -- fresh cilantro, the perfect touch of spice, hot, fresh, and full of flavor. Decided to try this place because i seen a lot of talk about it on tik tok. The restaurant was very clean, and for a saturday night there was no wait at all. They were playing spongebob episodes in the dining room which i thought was so cute and nostalgic. The food was good; my favorite being the ribs. I loveddd the texture on the hand pulled noodles. However, i wish they provided Sriracha or Hoisin sauce with their noodles dishes. The broths were very oily and salty in my opinion and needed something to sweeten/tang them out. Decided to come here after seeing so many videos circle social media. Once you are seated you order on your phone and the food is brought out to you on a robot machine. The wait staff was polite when we went up to ask for extra silverware and cups. We decided to get the spicy wonton soup and that was very good, we also got garlic noodles which also tasted fresh and good. We did not like the general taos chicken and I'd pass on the spring rolls. Noodle Topia lives up to the name. I came right when they opened today and ordered the Szechuan Noodles and pork soup dumplings. As soon as I ordered, I could see and hear the man making my noodles, and they arrived to my table in 10 minutes or less. The noodles are fantastic, with just the right amount of chew. Matched with the broth, it was perfect for a cold morning after a run. The broth definitely has a kick, but the spice is just right, and they have chili oil on the table if you want to take it up a notch. The pork soup dumplings could have used some more soup inside, but the taste was fantastic. I added some chili oil on these and it was just what it needed. I've visited Noodle Topia a couple more times since I wrote my original review, and I have to say that unfortunately, the quality of the food here has dropped tremendously over the last two years. The stalwart dish I used to order almost every visit, the "Beyond Noodle" has unfortunately been impacted by what seems to be a recipe change. Instead of being a super savory, garlicky, and spicy dish, it has turned into an acidic vinegar overload. For a most restaurants, I would normally think this was a one time accident, but I visited Noodle Topia twice over the last year, and both times the taste was identical. Several of my friends have also stated the same. In addition, the biang biang noodles are now overcooked. I think they are still made fresh at the counter, but the cook time is now way too long, making the noodles border on mushy. When I first visited in 2020, I was impressed with the quality of the hand pulled noodles here. Now? I would not eat here again. The sad thing is that since I enjoyed it so much when I first moved to Metro Detroit, I made Noodle Topia one of my last meals before I moved away from Michigan. I kind of regret making that decision. read more

Only thing to note is there is no meat (there were no bean sprouts in mine either even though it says it comes with them) so order meat if you want it. I got the beef shank and it was great. The dish is also really spicy. I normally like spicy food but this was, as the name states, beyond. Although, you would lose some of the human element that people like in restaurants. The dining area is clean and comfortable. The location is a little challenging to find. It is nestled behind another storefront. Food: the food was pretty good. It was not the best of this type of food that I've had, but it was still pretty good. My husband and I came here for lunch and shared the XLB and beef noodle soup. The XLB were flavorful and really filling -- the wrapper was on the thicker side, and just a heads up, it's not Taiwanese-style so there's no ginger available. The beef noodle soup had tender beef and was comforting overall. Not the best I've had (I'm from Los Angeles where there are tons of spots to compare to), but definitely pretty good for Michigan. One thing to note: there's a bit of a language barrier, so it can be tricky to ask for extras or specifics. That said, service was still friendly, and portions and pricing were solid. Was doing research on getting some decent Chinese food and came across this place, about 30 minutes from the house so was having high hopes. The place was empty when I got there and empty when I left, which in some cases can be a bit concerning but I came a little after lunch time so was probably just a lull. I tried 3 items, beef dumplings, scallion pancakes and the beef noodle soup. The dumplings were hot and the broth was rich, the scallion pancakes were fresh as well, perfect crunch and softness. The beef noodle soup was a little bland but the noodles were perfectly cooked. They have the robot servers doing most of the heavy lifting but at least a human brought the bowl of soup over. Definitely a place I'll go back to, at least to try some different items. Madison Heights appears to be the place to go for more authentic Chinese food so am looking forward to try more places. read more

Stopped here on a Friday night for dinner with a friend. The place had a steady stream of people in and out. Was very easy to get a table. When you drive there you park and enter through the back. Use the driveway to the right/south of the building, mind you it's a narrow two way drive. When you enter, you seat yourself (they should put a sign up). Once seated you are greeted by the robot delivering waters to your table. There is a QR code on the utensil holder to order your food with the table number already tagged. I'd say that the menu on their website is more descriptive than the one you are linked to from the QR code so we had one open on each of our phones. It's a short menu, but this makes ordering easier plus they do these items very well. You order online and pay up front. Items come out via robot as they are ready. They do hand deliver soup bc it's so hot and probably spills a little as the robot bumps along. Some have mentioned that the robot is loud and it plays a different song each time it's doing a delivery which is helpful so you perk up to see if it's yours. We didn't find it loud but entertaining and cute. It has a little kitty face that has expressions. Food was excellent. I got the beef noodle soup and my friend got the almond chicken. We split the soup dumplings. Everything came out hot, we had to let it cool. Soup was flavorful and simple just what I wanted. It highlights the noodles which you can see behind the kitchen windows are being hand pulled. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and hit the spot. Soup dumplings were very flavorful and the first time I've had them, they were really hot and risky to take off the robot but worth the risk. Some negatives were that we had to ask for napkins, they only have Kleenex boxes at the tables which is a little odd but I've been to places with stranger offerings. It tells me some Asian grandma is making sure you feel like you're at home with some good food. And we didn't get any water refills, we had to flag down the one server that was managing the robots and he wasn't very attentive. Like another reviewer said they should have a call button to request the server for water, to go containers, napkins, anything you can't get from the order menu. They also have a busbot that he sends to the table and then loads up the tubs with dirty dishes. The turnover of tables was fast and the robot manager was very attentive and got food out quickly. We stayed a while because it wasn't very busy; there were always at least 3-4 tables open. Enjoyed watching the videos of street market vendors making different foods. And was a nice chill place to sit and chat, just what we were looking for. They offer sake, beer, pops, and bubble tea as drinks but we didn't order any. No dessert that I saw either besides the bubble tea or Oreo dirtea. read more

You watch the chef make The noodles which is a plus and you taste the quality. Service was mediocre. We sat for 10 minutes with nobody coming to tell us how ordering worked. You enter from the back, and there are two different doors which is sort of confusing. The parking lot is really dirty, a lot of trash and debris. It doesn't feel super welcoming. The inside is way better looking than the outside, cute decor. It did take a few minutes for someone to acknowledge us and there aren't any signs telling you if you should seat yourself. I think that would help a lot. Waters were brought by the little automated robot which was super cute. We ordered from the QR code, and the cook (I assume that's who it was) brought our food out so there is some table service. I sort of like this system because we could leave right when we were ready but it definitely has its negatives too. The menu is sort of confusing because it doesn't give a good description of what's in the dish- so as a picky eater, I was pretty nervous. Not sure this would be great for people with food allergies. Okay- the food. OUTSTANDING. I got the sezchuan noodles and the flavor is fantastic. Honestly, for the price, you get quite a bit of food too. We went to Noodle Topia on a Tuesday night. The restaurant is really easy to miss; we ended up driving by and had to turn around. The entrance is in the back. Once you're inside, its a large, open space, and we were seated. The restaurant doesn't use waiters to order or bring you your food. You have to order via a QR code that takes you to a website. It was difficult to navigate and you couldn't order simple things like a glass of water, they only listed bottled items. Also, they use a robotic waiter. The sounds it made were extremely loud and annoying because it was intrusive to having a conversation. It kept going all over the restaurant serving other people as well as us. My date ordered General Tso's chicken, I ordered the Shanghai style wonton soup, a green onion pie, and a fried chive dumpling. The green onion pie was good, and I enjoyed it. Though I usually love wonton soup, and I could tell it was made with good quality ingredients, I did not enjoy it at all. The spices in the broth and dumplings as well as the texture for me was just off-putting. The chive dumpling was only OK. It really needed salt and I felt like I couldn't taste the chives which is weird because it was stuffed with them. Service was fast and we got our food within a reasonable time. It seems like they hand-pull their own noodles here! HANDMADE BEEF NOODLE SOUP 兰州牛肉面 - 11.99 First taste is always the broth on its own to see if it's any good. The broth was pretty light in taste (nice that it wasn't overwhelming with MSG). I wish there was a "meatier" flavor as I felt like the broth lacked a lot of depth. The noodles were good as they were cooked perfectly and not too thick. However, I wish there were more pieces of meat in there so I didn't have to eat so many bites of noodles by itself. Additionally, having some vegetables like bokchoy would also be a nice touch. I didn't enjoy the radish that was cooked in the noodles and found the taste to be a bit bitter and unpleasant. There also wasn't a lot of green onions which was sad because I'd prefer more garnish. Besides the noodles, everything was just meh. I definitely wouldn't get the beef noodle soup here again, but I'm willing to return to try something else. Mine spilled all over me and not one offer was made to so much as being me a real napkin. I had to use the face tissue they keep on the tables. Then no replacement for a very long time after we asked. Most dished came without utensils, like the dumplings came with no dumpling spoon. The flavor was OK but most everything was fairly bland without a ton of soy sauce and chili oil. The scallion pancakes were insanely good though. Just a really lame ambiance and cruddy service along with mediocre food. We drove more than an hour to come, we would not make thay mistake again. Was looking for a quick dinner so we stopped here as if was on our way and holy cow we were absolutely blown away. My partner got the braised beef noodle soup with extra noodles. The broth was so delicious and rich and the beef was so incredibly tender it absolutely fell apart. I got the beyond noodle bowl which had a lovely spicy salty garlicky sauce. The absolute stand out from this experience was, of course, the noodles. I loved watching the man behind the counter hand pulling the noodles for our orders and you can tell these noodles were made fresh because they were perfectly chewy and bouncy with a fantastic flavor.
