Tourist- General : Overall it's pretty good but not amazing. I've been spoiled with great Thai food in San Diego so my standards are a bit high for both Pad Thai and drunken noodle. Food : I've tried both the Pad Thai noodle and the Drunken noodle twice and the spice level wasn't consistent. Literally one of my favorite spots in Indy. I'm here quite often, and do take out from time to time. The Masaman Curry is to die for, as is the pad Thai. The lemongrass soup is so yummy and warm. Let's start out by saying that generally, I am not a Thai food fan, as I don't like spicy food. Trust me, when Siam Square says you can order your food mild (no spice), they mean it. On the other hand, my husband likes his food hot. He ordered it hot, and said it wasn't really hot -- next time he'll order it "Thai Hot." We started with the vegetable tempura, which was light and delicious. I was worried it would be greasy and heavy, but nope. I could eat it all day. Then we had the steamed dumplings, which were savoury and yummy as well. Next we had Tropical Fried Rice ($11.95), which I swear, was one of the best restaurant meals I've had. It was wonderful. Hubby had Pad Seuw and loved it as well. He's not a fan of sweet stuff generally, so I think he wondered about the Tropical Fried Rice, but when he tried it, he really liked it as well. I had two glasses of wine - at $7 each - and hubby had a couple of Thai beers. They were ok as well. We finished with dessert -- I can't remember the name of it, and it's not on the online menu, but it is made of butter, flour and condensed milk, and came highly recommended. Let me tell you, it was flaky and amazing! It felt like the consistency of fruit, but there wasn't any in it. DELICIOUS! All in all our date night cost $93, for two appetizers, two entrees, two alcoholic drinks each, and dessert, and including a $15 tip. I will add that I've had the Drunken Noodles in the past, and they were great too. We loved Siam Square. and will be back. A few things: 1. You will probably have to parallel park when you go, as in the rest of Fountain Square. If you're not a fan of parallel parking, have someone else drive. 2. The service is not quick. Servers are attentive and very busy, but this is a place to enjoy conversation with your dinner. Don't rush it. This is also the only reason I didn't give it five stars, as it was just slow enough to make us say "where are the appetizers". 3. There will probably be a short wait on busy nights. Let me preface this review with the fact that I really love Thai food. I try it everywhere I go (best I've had to date was in Glasgow, Scotland, but that's a whole other story). I had been to Siam Square once a few years ago and thought it was okay. However, recently one of my friends was raving about it, so I decided to give it another try...my experience can be summed up in a single word. Meh. I always, by default, want to like Thai food, but my taste buds were not impressed. We ordered the dumplings and yum woon sen to start. The dumplings were good. The yum woon sen left a lot to be desired, very bland and not appetizing. We ate a few bites and, left the rest. We also ordered pad thai with tofu and the red curry with chicken. The red curry was acceptable and had a nice heat with medium hot requested. The pad thai was disapponting. Once again, we found it bland, and medium hot was not hot at all. I usually love leftover thai food, sometimes even more than fresh, but not in this case. Bland doesn't get less bland over night. This is probably my least favorite Thai food experience ever. I wanted to make sure I shared with the Yelpers my outstanding experience at Siam Square this afternoon while it was still fresh. First off, I have always loved the Fountain Square area and this gem fits squarely in the neighborhood. The decor is warm and inviting with many beautiful images throughout the restaurant. While I was a little later than a usual lunch (about 2ish), I felt welcomed and everyone was helpful and patient. I opted for the Siam Ginger lunch special, which came with a spring roll and a bowl of their Thom Yum soup. The soup was actually a pleasant surprise. Described as their "famous Thai Lemongrass Soup" with mushrooms, scallions and cilantro. It had a bit of a kick, but it was like nothing I've ever tasted. The meal was something special. As visually stunning as it was delicious. The Siam Ginger was a nice blend of julienned ginger with mushrooms, carrots and celery. Being on the plant-based side of the street since the past summer, I opted for the tofu, but one can have the dish with chicken or shrimp, too. For a lunch special, it was a great value. I would highly recommend Siam Square. I look forward to trying more of their dishes in the near future. Siam Square. A wonderful blend of exceptional food, service and decor. Pros:Appropriate portions, good food Cons: LOUD!, service was a little slow I came here on a Friday night around 7:30 with my favorite fellow yelper and we were seated promptly. Immediately I noticed how incredibly loud this restaurant is. There isn't a single soft surface to absorb the noise so it just echos and amplifies. I had to scream "what??" several times, and our waitress even admitted she was having a hard time hearing us. I need to come back during off hours so I can enjoy my pad thai without a side of temporary deafness. I am a thai food virgin, so I took to my fellow yelpers to help me decide what to order. I heard good things about the Pad Seuw and Pad Ped so we went with those two entrees to split. The food was great! We were able to choose what spice level we wanted so we both went for medium. Just hot enough to still be able to taste the food but feel the tingle on your lips afterward. Loved it. The portions you serve is just right, and with two of us splitting two entrees we left feeling full but not stuffed. Pad Seuw and Pad Ped were both delicious. Perfectly cooked meat, noodles and veggies. I'd recommend both of these dished, but we agreed the Pad Seuw with beef was the best of the two. Two entrees and a beer ran us about 32 not including tip. Service was friendly, if not a little bit much at times. We had just gotten our menus when our server was asking if we wanted wine/apps and I had to ask her to give us a minute because we had literally just been handed to menu. She was attentive, and our water glasses were always refilled promptly which I appreciate. All in all: I can see why this place has rave reviews! Siam Square is a great go-to spot for lunch. Their lunch special includes a vegetarian spring roll, cup of thom yum soup, and your choice of one of 12 slightly smaller sized entrees than they offer at dinner. There are plenty of vegetarian entree options. I've had their red and masaman curry, pad thai, and drunken noodles among others. All have been excellent. Portions are large, and I usually have half left for another delicious meal of leftovers later. After having their spring roll at lunch, it's difficult for me to have dinner here without ordering spring rolls as an appetizer. I also love their ginger tea, which is both sweet and spicy. Their Thai iced tea is sweet is both senses of the word. They offer a good variety of local beers on tap, including some specialty and seasonal beers made by the breweries. read more

I'm finding so many place I frequent which I never review....I'm not sure why that happens. Perhaps because this place already has 200+ reviews. I can't really say much more than what has already been said. Try the Crab Rangoons. They are amazing....they have a sweeter taste to them and are made fresh as opposed to frozen. You will not be disappointed. There are 2 things which are my go-to here. The Pad See Ew which I love at most Thai places...and the Drunken Noodles which are by far my favorite dish here. They tend to scale their spice down here to cater to the masses so if you normally like your Thai food spicy, bump up 1 level from what you normally get. The Thai basil they use in their dish is so fresh you can just smell the heck out of it when it arrives. The smell typically makes me ravenous enough to finish my meal is 43.3 seconds (made up number) and I don't know if my stomach has a chance to realize I'm full because I'm constantly crying to my girlfriend about order another entree (she won't let me) Anyway, longer review than I anticipated but go check this place out if you have never been here....if you like Thai, there is no comparison. read more

I got take up from here while I was out and about in town before I picked up my hubs from IUPUI. It was not bad, but I think I am a bit spoiled with Thai food being from the West Coast. It has a good flavor, and in generally I liked it. The portions for me are smaller than what I am used to for the price, but again my bar I'm measuring to is West Coast where cheap Thai options are plentiful. We came for lunch on a recent weekday. There was a short wait for a table, about 10 minutes or so, which is to be expected at that time of day. I had the vegetarian Pad Thai and my wife had the vegetarian Drunken Noodles. Both dishes were good but nothing that left me wanting to immediately return. I thought the portions were a little small, but that is probably because I am used to the big meals at Thai Spice in Greenwood. The service definitely left room for improvement. The food took a long time to come out, especially for lunch on a work day. We had multiple people checking on us, which is fine as long as they communicate with one another. One person would ask if we needed drink refills and then disappear. Another server would check on us and we would then have to ask again for the refills. One server asked if we wanted one check or two. We said one check was fine but were given separate checks by a different employee. In short, I would return for another round if I were in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

This is a place that we often stop for lunch during the work week. Great food. I always get the mixed veggies with chicken or tofu. Nice touches like the carrots cut into flowers is pretty cool. The other guys get pad Thai or the drunken noodles is another popular choice. Only downside is the spice isn't consistent and depends on who is in back cooking. I first came here about a couple of months right after this place opened. I have to say I wasn't too sure about what our outcome would be as we have always eaten at Thai Spice in Greenwood but we were willing to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised to find that both restaurants are owned by family members. It is evident in many of the dishes which are very similar but just different enough. The service was awesome the people were very warm and welcoming and willing to give their personal opinions which I greatly value as someone who has worked in restaurants before. We tried the Curried Puffs and they were amazing. We only wished there were more so we didn't have to fight over the last one. :) Our food was really great that night and after having returned a few times I have to say that the service and food still live up to the experience I had the first time I went. There is something to be said about consistency. If you're looking for a nice place to eat and maybe try something new this is the place for you. It's just fine in a pinch, but in Indianapolis, it's the BEST thing here so far that I have found. I love fresh spring rolls, but who leaves the cilantro stems on? They are tasteless and hard to bite through so I end up sitting there with a huge twig sticking out of my mouth...sexy huh....yea.... The decor is clean, neat, and very trendy. Nice Thai restaurant downtown where the portion size is reasonable. You know how sometime you go out for Thai and you get enough food for 4 meals? This place isn't like that. The dishes are made with quality ingredients in reasonable portions. For years I stuck with the Kratiem, the Pad Krapow or the tropical fried rice. What can I say? I am a sucker for delectable combination of pineapple, cashew, pork and fired rice?My latest discovery is the Pa Ram Long Song - this is an amazing peanut curry sauce sauce. When it comes out it kind of looks like soup . . . that's ok 'cuz you are going to want to drink it! Couple quick tips: 1) Spice level seems to vary quite a bit here. I finally made it to Siam Square and I'm happy that I did! We skipped the appetizers but did pick out two beers to try. One of them was a Thai beer and the other was the fruity beer listed at the bottom of the menu. Both of them were quite good with light flavors that didn't overpower the food. We went with the Panang Curry with Chicken and the Drunken Noodles (no protein). I don't love when thai restaurants put green beans in their curry but aside from that the curry was delicious. The drunken noodles were also awesome but we asked for both meals to be prepared "medium" (you can't get the panang curry mild even if you wanted to) but the drunken noodles had quite a kick! The nice thing about Thai food is it can be done family style so you can try multiple things. Two dishes for two people was plenty of food and we even had some leftover of both. Had been meaning to try this local favorite for months now and finally made it in on a stormy Sunday. We were surprised to find it bustling with customers. Still, it was big enough that they could seat us right away even though our initial server contact required a bit of a wait. My customary means of sizing up a new Thai restaurant is to order their Panang curry or a red curry special but for whatever reason (hangover) I was feeling noodles that night, so noodles it was! The pad Thai of course. It felt very plebeian of me to order the #1 most palatable Thai dish of all time at a new place but it did give me a good overall sense of their quality. I give the pad Thai a 3.5 stars for flavor and texture. I would probably recommend it to others but next time I will go with something more exciting. Like a stir fry or curry. The hubby had a ginger stir fry that we would both rate at 4-4.5 stars. It is called Siam Ginger and if you like ginger then you don't want to miss it! I had food envy. He had to wrap his arm around his plate to stop me from taking stabs at the shrimps and veggies. We had a small problem with our bill at the end (under-charged by an entire entree) but our server had disappeared into the back and we couldn't find her for 15 minutes to ask her to correct it. Finally we grabbed the attention of the other server who managed to work with another employee to fix our bill. I really wanted to like it, and I've been there 3 times ordering 3 different things, and I can't say I've been overly impressed with any of the curry dishes (I've dried the green, red and the softshell crab). They were ok, but honestly nothing that I hadn't had at the other thai restaurants (and my meal always ended up more expensive at Siam Square). I agree with previous reviewers that the spice level is not very consistent. What I can say I love dearly and won't ever stop going for is the Siam Roll. OH my. Located in the Fountains - which is a pretty run-down area but I do not mind a hole-in-the-wall. Kind of bare inside, but a good amount of seating. The place was kind of dead but it seems most of Indy is dead on Sunday. Tom Yum Soup - Salty. It was alright but was a little off flavor-wise. Bangkok Fried Rice - Delicious! The flavor was spot on and there was a ton of meat. Drunken Noodles - Good but did not taste like drunken noodles. More of a chinese stir-fry with more veggies/meat than noodles. I probably would not get it again. Panang Curry - Was okay, nothing great but not bad at all. Their spice level is pretty skewed. We got hot but it was not spicy at all. If you want any spice, get the Thai-Hot. We asked for extra thai peppers after the Hot was nothing - but they do charge .50 cents for each side you ask for. Portions are on the smaller side since 2 of us finished 3 entrees. The place seems like a good spot for Thai food since the options in Indy are limited. Siam Square is one of the few Thai places that I can consider in my 'safe' zone. I have a very severe allergy to shellfish- and generally a cuisine that cooks 90% of their dishes with fish and oyster sauce would be a cuisine I would avoid at all times. Unfortunately, due to having exchange students from Thailand before I developed the allergy has made it a very to give up a food cuisine that I love. However, after many, many times- I have still not had a reaction at Siam Square. (I still carry my Epi pen just in case!) The food there is good- the main issue that I have had (and the reason I am giving them a 4 star rating over 5) is with consistency. Flavors are usually decently consistent, but the cook of the noodles and the heat profile can vary tremendously from visit to visit. Sometimes medium will be nothing but sweet and other times your mouth will be on fire. I am a pretty consistent orderer. I ALWAYS start out with the vegetarian spring rolls, followed by medium chicken pad Thai, and we always finish off with the Roti Rolls. The spring rolls are very good. Glass noodles, carrot, a little bit of cabbage, pepper and seasoning fried in a rice wrapper. The rolls are served with a vinegar and sugar chili sauce (think sweet chili sauce without the thickener). Honestly, I could eat a whole order but I usually have to share with my Fiancé. My fiancé always offers Pad Se Ewe as his entree (this was my favorite Thai dish before developing my allergy). It's served with thick rice noodles, protein of choice, Thai vegetables (similar to spinach) in a sweet soy and oyster sauce. I go with the typical pad Thai. Thin rice noodles, chicken, Thai chili sauce, peanuts, egg. Can't go wrong. Oh- and with NO FISH SAUCE ;). I have never had Roti rolls except at Siam Square. My fiancé is addicted to hem so much that he requests Siam Square just to order dessert. For someone who doesn't generally order dessert, this is a huge compliment. Think flaky pastry pancakes rolled in sweetened condensed milk and honey. I really don't know how to explain it any better. Just trust me- they are good. I would recommend calling ahead for reservations on weekends- or go for takeout. Siam square is definitely a gem in the fountain square neighborhood. I love this place, but I really wish it was a little more family friendly. As in kids.... one kids menu selection, really?? I would love to get my son to try some thai food, but the entrees would be too much food for him. Instead, he usually gets the (only) option of chicken fingers, which are good but obviously not thai. Last time I asked if there was some sort of veggie meal that they could make for my daughter and our waitress said no without even asking the kitchen. In addition, most of the staff have bad attitudes when children come in, especially the lady owner. Otherwise, I love this place. Love this place! I haven't eaten at many Thai places so I can't say how it compares, but the service and food are great! I almost always order the pad thai with chicken because it's so delicious, they have varying spice levels which is great for spice-wimps like me. For a large entree and a beer my bill was under $20, so it's very reasonably priced. This is a good place for a casual date night or a dinner with friends. It looks small from the outside but they have seating on the second floor. This place is also wonderful for lunch, they have a lunch menu ($10 or less for most items) and service is really fast. There's free street parking right in front of the restaurant so that's an added bonus! read more
