So, my love and I decided to try this place on a Friday night. We parked right in front. Was greeted by staff Matthew and told to pick our Choice of booth or a table. I chose a booth because I always do and I think they're way more intimate. So, we get seated and Matthew is near us with water and utensils in no time. I pretty much knew what I wanted from the pictures and the board when we first walked in. I noticed the duck on numerous occasions, from Yelp to their sign in the entry way so I was sold. We got a chance to look at the menu for a few minutes and ordered shortly after. Our food was out to us fairly quickly. I was extremely pleased by this, as I was superdy duper hungry. My duck came with vegetables and both dishes came with white jasmine rice on the side. This was lovely because we got to rationalize our meal with the rice to our liking. Unbelievable dining experience. Places like this are the bread and butter of Yelp. Without Yelp, there's no way we would've driven 30 minutes out of the way to find Siamese Basil in a low-key strip plaza. We walked in and no one, I repeat no one, was dining in. Let's just say my group of friends said something along the lines of, "Matt, why the hell did you take us here?" (BOY WERE THEY WRONG) Our server knew the menu better than the ABC's. Probably the most knowledgeable and attentive waiter I've ever had. He described to us their three signatures items. He did this by comparing each item to a famous basketball player. 1) Massaman Curry (Michael Jordan) - the dish they are know for. 2) Three Flavor Chicken (Kobe Bryant) - always a win. 3) Amazing Flavor (LeBron James) - clutch. I went with numero uno, the Michael Jordan. Holy Massaman Curry, the flavor was on a level of unattainable enlightenment. Hands down, the best yellow curry I've ever had. It contained a perfect spice, but prepared with tender avocados which mellowed the curry. Normally, I'm not nuts for peanuts (pun intended), but the salty bite added crunch and rounded out the curry. Paired with perfectly-steamed white rice, I was in my own little world. All for $10.95! Are you kidding me? Easily would've paid double the price for this meal. I'm telling you, it was expertly crafted and prepared with an extreme attention to detail. By the end of our meal, the restaurant was packed. Apparently Siamese Basil originated in Florida, the Jacksonville area in 1995, so our server asked us about our Florida expertise. So this is the first time ordering from here since they closed down due to covid-19 and honestly, the food was mediocre at best compared to pre-covid days. I'm not sure if they changed the chef during the couple months they closed down but was a little disappointed this time considering their food was exceptional when we ordered from there before. I hope this business is able to bounce back. Update 10/6: The business owner was kind enough to reach out to me and clear up the issue regarding the food order. I kindly explained that the portion sizes for delivery was substantially smaller than if you were to dine in (basically lunch portions). So glad we found this place when we moved to Tucker 3 years ago, it's our go-to Thai restaurant! We were so excited when it opened back up after they were a closed for a while due to the fire. I LOVE Thai food. I think it may be my favorite food. This restaurant did not disappoint me. My husband and I decided to eat here today because we are always looking to try new Thai restaurants. We brought our friend Darla along with us as well because we all love a good food adventure. Prices: Prices at this restaurant are no different than what I have I come to expect for Thai food. At minimum you're going to spend about $10 for something traditional, like curry and up to $20 for one of the specials. Food: The food here is pretty on par with other Thai restaurants I have eaten at. The flavor and spice levels were good. Customer service: Our waiter seemed to really care about the restaurant. I'm not sure if this was a family owned business or not but it was nice to see people that care about their establishment. He made sure to check on us and whether or not we were enjoying the food. He was friendly and had a good personality. Atmosphere: From looking at the restaurant on the outside; it doesn't look too fancy but it is bigger than it looks once you get inside. The décor wasn't trying too hard, but still looked very nice and laid back. On our visit today, I ordered the Honey Duck ($17). It was delicious. The sauce had just the right amount of sweetness to it and it was sprinkled with shredded ginger which I felt really warmed up the dish and added to the flavor profile. Darla ordered the spicy catfish ($11) because she loves spicy food. I got a taste of her dish and the sauce was very spicy but it was very delicious. The next time we go here I'm going to order the spicy catfish myself. My husband ordered the Grilled Lamb Chops ($18) which were also delicious but I think the meat could have been seasoned just a little more. My husband and I also got curry to go because we have a hard time trying a new Thai restaurant and NOT getting curry. I tried the Massaman Curry with beef and he tried the Panang Curry with beef. He said the Panang was delicious but I thought the Massaman was just ok. Overall: If you love Thai food, this place is definitely worth a visit. The location can be a bit hidden, but it's well worth it. I live close by here and have never gave this place a chance. Decided to this time around and Siamese Basil blew me away. Matthew, our host and server sat us down right away and accommodated us with different food options. I usually have a go to dish when I go to a Thai restaurant, but I tried something different this time around. We ordered: Appetizer: Fried Tofu - This one had a nice crisp when biting into it. Paired with the sauce was a nice touch. I also ended up getting a coconut soup. It comes in two different sizes. The coconut soup was really on point. It wasn't too sweet and overpowering like some other places I have tried. Entree: Three Flavor Chicken - This was pretty mindblowing for me. I got the mild version because I know how Thai food can be super spicy. This chicken has a nice spice kick with it. It was so flavorful because of the mixture. Rice came with it as well and there were four different sauce to choose from that Matthew brought out. I wanted to try the desserts, but I was too full this time around, so until next time. Since my friend was craving Thai food, and this place was a miss the last time I visited (came here at the opening time of 12 noon but the restaurant was still closed), we ventured out and had a pleasant late dinner here. We were the only customers here when we arrived around 9 PM this past Sunday. As we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and ability to speak as loud as we want, we observed a few folks to-going food so it wasn't really dead with no customers. The service was great with a friendly smile and great customer service interactions. I guess it's because we were attended by the owner's son. My friend ordered the sample platter as he had a large appetite that evening. It came with 2 veggie egg rolls, 4 crunchy tofu pieces, 4 crab rangoons (the filling looked and tasted more like a curry), and 4 shrimp rolls. The spicy basil noodle dish I had was delish. It had the right amount of meats and veggies. You get to pick your meat option; I think beef is the ideal choice. I asked for a spicy level of medium, but I think it was more like mild. Still, this dish gets points for appeal, taste, and price. The area does look a tad sketchy, but with all good hole in the wall places, it's about how epic the food is that matters more. This was my first time here and I will definitely be back. I called in my order and I was asked how long it would take me to arrive so the food would be nice and hot. That was thoughtful. Having already paid Thai Restaurant of Norcross a visit, I figured it was time to see what Siamese Basil was all about. We pulled up on damp Saturday evening and we able to seat ourselves in a booth. Matthew waited on us, and he was very professional and personable. It's extremely evident that he takes pride in his family's restaurant and considers feedback carefully. He certainly wants Siamese Basil to be your new favorite Thai spot! Ask for suggestions if you'd like some guidance. You can get spice levels customized to your preference. Cold Thai Tea ($3.50). This was slightly too sweet for me but it was still enjoyable. Pot of Coconut Soup ($14). This could easily be a meal since there was lots of chicken in there. There was some cilantro too; be warned if you aren't into that stuff (cough, me). The citrus flavor isn't as strong as some other places, but I happily lapped up the comforting creamy soup. The glowing fire added an exciting element to the soup! Kra Prao Kai Sub (Basil Ground Chicken) (~$11). This was a more unique way of eating chicken as it was presented in tiny pieces. The basil taste was memorable. Garlic Duck ($17). The boneless duck pieces were crispy on the outside and featured a tasty spice mix. Really good. Emerald Curry ($10.50). The green glow comes from spinach. A dish Popeye would dig. We did too, adding $2 to the cost for shrimp. Nice big pieces cooked perfectly. Golden Sundae ($5.50). For dessert, we shared these fried envelopes of bananas. The generous scoop of coconut ice cream finished the treat off. Fun fact: We were told that a customer actually suggested paring coconut ice cream with the banana rectangles. I must applaud this customer since the coconut ice cream was actually my favorite aspect of the dessert. I should add that you should pay careful attention to Siamese Basil's closing times and aim to be done as close as possible to the times. Made a little bit of a drive to try Siamese Basil after hearing good things. This restaurant gets 5 stars for food and 5 stars for customer service. They were very busy when I went, but they communicated well and got the food out as soon as it was ready. The Garlic Seafood, Nam Tok and Pad Thai were all as good or better than some of the other great places around Atlanta. The fresh chilis on the side were actually spicy which is key for me. Don't let the rundown strip mall exterior fool you, the service and food is great! I am an ex-regular customer of Kokai Thai Bistro but their service has been terrible and their staff has ruined my lunch experience too many times. I found this place via Yelp (of course) and was not disappointed. The lunch menu carries a good variety of curry dishes, rice and stir fry entrees and noodle entrees. You get a complimentary spring roll or cup of soup. The prices are excellent, our lunch for 2 was only $17-$18 before tip - WIN!! I tried the Three Flavored Chicken and man was it delicious. I've already made up my mind to come here for lunch again next week and order the same thing. This dish had crispy (not soggy) fried pieces of chicken, tossed with a spicy and sweet chili sauce and sautéed vegetables. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, not too soggy, still had a nice crunch. The sauce was spicier than I expected even tho I asked for medium heat, but it was still good and enjoyable. I highly recommend and will be back!! The only reason this place isn't getting 5-stars is the interior. Who knew the two best Thai restaurants in metro Atlanta were located only 500 feet away from each other in Norcross? It's too bad I didn't discover Siamese Basil Thai Restaurant sooner or I'd have visited more often. Instead, I returned (in hindsight, somewhat blindly) again and again to what I long considered to be the best Thai restaurant in Atlanta, Thai Restaurant of Norcross, and unknowingly drove by Siamese Basil every time. It turns out the food and service at Siamese Basil matches, if not exceeds, Thai Restaurant of Norcross. This place is outstanding. The restaurant doesn't look like much. None of the businesses in this neighborhood really do. Siamese Basil is located in a humble, nondescript strip mall. They are the building's oldest tenant. They've been in this spot since 1995. During that time, there were a lot of Korean businesses in the area. In the early 2000s, those businesses relocated to Duluth, but Siamese Basil (and Thai Restaurant of Norcross, which opened in the 80s) remain. The interior of Siamese Basil is dated. However, you don't come for the atmosphere. You come for the food. And it is *good*. It's hard for me not to compare Siamese Basil with Thai Restaurant of Norcross. They're both great Thai restaurants and they're right across the street from each other. It's like Red Sox vs. Yankees, Lakers vs. Celtics, Duke vs. UNC, Georgia vs. Georgia Tech. Thai Restaurant of Norcross has Bill Cosby (celebrity guest - though I'm not sure they should be proud of that anymore). Siamese Basil has Dikembe Mutombo. In terms of revenue, Thai Restaurant of Norcross has historically been the top dog. They're bigger and typically busier. Siamese Basil has some feathers in its cap, though, such as catering the Atlanta movie sets for the Fast and the Furious parts 7 and 8. And while they've been rivals for decades, relations are good between the two businesses. When a fire temporarily shut down Thai Restaurant of Norcross, they directed their customers to Siamese Basil. Now that's good sportsmanship. This is a mom and pop shop, literally, with the mom (Jirawan) and dad (Chatchai) having opened this business over 20 years ago. They're still hard at work in the kitchen to this day. The son, Matthew, helps out and he was our server. He was wonderful. Siamese Basil's menu isn't as big as Thai Restaurant of Norcross' menu, but it doesn't need to be. There are plenty of terrific selections including soups, which you can get by the bowl or pot, appetizers like chicken satay (skewers), Thai salads, rice and noodle dishes, stir-fries, curries, authentic entrees from catfish to frog legs, and desserts such as coconut ice cream and mango and sticky rice. Expect to spend about $4-9 each for most soups, apps, salads, and desserts and $8-15 each for most entrees. It's also interesting to point out that Siamese Basil offers both Thai tea and Thai coffee ($2.99 each). A lot of Thai restaurants in America have Thai tea on the menu, but not Thai coffee (known in Thai as "oliang"). It's yummy. Here's what we tried for dinner: * Coconut soup ($3.89 per bowl, $13.89 per pot) - coconut milk, chicken, mushroom, Thai lime leaves, lemongrass * Pad Thai ($8.89) - stir-fried Thai rice noodles with eggs, bean sprouts, sauce, cilantro, lime * Garlic duck ($15.39) - not on the menu * Three flavor chicken ($10.49) - deep-fried, lightly breaded chicken, sweet, sour & spicy sauce, steamed vegetables. * Green curry ($10.39) - sauteed in homemade green curry paste, coconut milk, bamboo shoots, basil leaves, and eggplant * Mango rice ($5.49) - sliced mango served with homemade sweet Thai sticky rice topped with coconut milk and toasted sesame seeds * Inferno ice cream ($5.39) - vanilla ice cream wrapped in pastry shell, fried, served with raspberry sauce, whipped cream, maraschino cherry * Thai tea ($2.99) Everything was delicious. As someone with a Thai background and who has been to Thailand many times, I've got to say I found the food to be surprisingly fantastic (most Thai people are usually unimpressed with Thai food in the States). I can't say I preferred one item over the rest because they were all equally fantastic. The most memorable dish was the garlic duck. The restaurant has three kinds of duck on the menu: spicy basil, Thai curry, and honey. Garlic duck isn't on the menu. It was amazing and among the best duck I've ever had -- boneless, relatively lean, and extremely flavorful. I consider this a must-order. The three-flavor chicken would be my next recommendation. According to the menu, this is the restaurant's second-best-selling dish. I could see why. Like the garlic duck, the three-flavor chicken was just packed with flavor. It was appetizing and addictive. The coconut soup, pad Thai, green curry, mango rice, "inferno" ice cream, and Thai tea were all solid. Another great Yelp find. We were in Atlanta for the night, needed a late dinner place. Hungry for Thai food. Siamese was top of the list for the area. At the end of a small strip mall, I would have never thought to stop at normally. It was ridiculously good and ridiculously well priced! As many have said Matthew, the server was super hyper in a good way. Extremely helpful and appreciative of our patronage. And overall a really sweet guy! After landing at the airport, I called for pickup; I ordered a Thai tea and a spicy drunken noodle with tofu. I arrived about half an hour after I said I would, and they kindly reheated my food for me (without my asking). I paid around $15 for my meal and waited for the food, and I proceeded to eat it right away on the car while driving. The Thai tea lacked flavor and was really sweet, so I wasn't a fan. The flavor was good and it was spicy, and the noodles were quite chewy. I was disappointed by the amount of vegetables in the noodles though; it was almost all noodles and tofu, not much else. The flavor was also unexpected, as I've had a lot of Thai food across the states and in Thailand, and I haven't had this flavor before. It wasn't bad per se, just wasn't what I was expecting. I do have to say that the service was astounding. The person helping me (he's probably the owner? not sure) was super kind and gracious, and I watched him serve other restaurant customers as well. He was super friendly, bothered to learn people's names, and he also chatted with me a bit while I was waiting for food. I wish all restaurants had this level of service! Anyway, I'm not entirely sure how to rate this spot as the food isn't super amazing and is quite average, but the service is amazing. I would give it 3.5 stars in total (3 stars for food and add a star for service), but I think ultimately, I wouldn't come back because of the food so I'll give it 3 stars (for places I rate 4 stars, I would undoubtedly return if I were in the area again). read more

This was such a nice surprise. Nestle in a small shopping center is this little gem of a restaurant. Honestly, we sat in the parking lot and debated going in for a good 5 mins. We are new to most areas and are still getting used to ATL/OTP. So we aren't sure what areas we need to be aware of the safety or not. But seeing many families walking around and going in the restaurant, we decided to give it a try. Once inside it was completely different from the outside, the smell coming from the kitchen was amazing. The host/waiter/Son of the owners Matt was very friendly. I was impressed at how he was handling the register, phones and tending to the tables. At times the service was a little slow, but seeing that it was a one man front of the house show, we didn't mind. When the food arrived Matt apologized for the wait and thanked us for coming in the restaurant. It was nice to see him take such pride in his job. Went to the haunted house and ate here afterwards as it was well reviewed. The place was empty at 9PM in Halloween so we sat down right away and we ordered quickly because they were about to close the kitchen. I ordered my usual, Masaman curry with chicken and my partnered order the Amazing flavor with chicken. That is in fact the name of the dish. Our food came out right away. I ordered mine not spicy and my partnered ordered his hot very spicy. I hate spicy food. He tried his food and it was not spicy. I'm very sensitive so I tried his just to make sure it was indeed not spicy and it was not. This is after he added spicy flavoring for the little jar. The coconut soup alone is worth the trip. Service was excellent and once you can battle a little bit with the parking - you'll be glad you walked in and gave it a shot. One catch that keeps it from a 4 star - no alcohol. Forget the fantastic pairings you can make with wine and a good Thai dish, I'd have settled for a beer to cut the heat in some of the dishes. My favorite thai place in greater atlanta I've tried 5 of them so far since moving to Atlanta, desperately searching for an authentic but easily accessible for the non thai pallet restaurant. And I'm very happy to have finally found one. The flavors are bold and feels homey. The atmosphere feels familiar and welcoming. We had the papaya salad, spicy, and it was refreshing and spicy, very perfect, with just the right amount of tomatoes. It was a imo lacking in lime but it was quickly brought on request and with the added lime was perfect. The pad kra phao was very flavorful as well. We added an egg, the best way to enjoy it, and it was good enough to satisfy my thai partner. For me though, this was easily the best pad thai in the city. I like to eat my pad thai with some sprinkled sugar and pickled chili vinegar, and man, finally, so happy about this pad thai. It might not be the super luxurious and authentic "I'm in thailand" experience of "26 Thai Kitchen" but it strikes that perfect home cooked flavor that I love. Great hole in the wall joint. It is unfortunate that it's across the street from famous Thai Restaurant of Norcross. Give this place a chance, and you will be pleasantly surprised. Food is flavorful hand crafted by Matthew's parents. Who is Matthew, you ask? The cheerful waiter, hostess, cashier, and son of the restaurant's owner. He is keen and observant of all his customers, even just meeting you a few times. The charm of this place is Matthew, in my opinion. Matthew coupled with his parents' great, authentic Thai food makes for a pleasant experience. The only gripe I have is that this place doesn't serve alcohol. A nice cold brew will definitely cool any Thai hot, level dish. I won't downgrade this place because of it, though. Everybody come try this joint out! read more

I ate here days ago with my family and I cannot stop thinking about how great it was. We share pad Thai, pad see ew, and drunken noodles. All were the best dishes I have ever had at any Thai restaurant and I should mention that Thai food is my favorite food. For lunch, you get your choice of coconut soup or spring roll. Both were delicious and fresh. The service was EXCEPTIONAL. Our waiter was so welcoming that it felt like I was eating at a friends house. Our food came out fast and he made sure we were good to go I can't believe I just tried this place for the first time. I regret not having it til now! I will be back. Excellent take out. My wife and I sat home licking our fingers before we were done. The prices were also more than reasonable.
