Sichuan Noodles is actually a misleading name because they have so much more than noodles - in fact, I think noodles are probably some of their less highlighted items! They have a beautiful menu with great pictures of all the dishes and polite service, and their atmosphere is family friendly and relaxed. I ordered the hot and sour rice noodles which were delicious but insanely numbing, to the point that even my mom who grew up in the Sichuan area was struggling! Pair that with the "special noodles with beef" (a dry noodle with spicy beef sauce) and we could barely feel our mouth anymore. We could barely touch our spicy fish because the noodles took us OUT. Rarely has a Sichuan place done this to us! I might even say it was a little bit difficult to enjoy the meal because so much time was spent waiting for our mouths to recover. Overall, I loved the flavors and variety but the intensity of the spice was pretty challenging (at least for the dishes we ordered) - I'll be back to try other options though!
When you walk in you can smell the aroma of southwest china in southwest houston. The food was delicious and I must try the noodles next time! However the star was the spicy tofu dish. The Chinese fried dough is amazing to eat with the entrées. I also love that they seal your food to go to ensure that it doesn't spill and his package properly. It's clear that here they truly understand hospitality and what it takes to make the customer experience a good one.
Dropped by for dinner with my gf and we ordered the spicy fish, sour noodles, and smoked duck. The spicy fish was great, but unfortunately it wasnt that spicy. The smoked duck initially tasted great but the smokiness later felt too overpowering and the duck meat was a bit tough. It's up there with 2 other similar spots in the same plaze (Spicy Hunan and Hunan Bistro), in terms of price it's probably right between the other two (Bistro being the top end), but they're all magnificent, and this might be the best one of all. Located in the best plaza in Houston for food and boba, and possibly the best restaurant in Houston. What I Get: Twin Pepper Chicken, Szechuan Spicy Chicken What's good: Everything I've heard some say the best Sichuan is Mala - that's so false - yeah, if you like Americanized food that also has sugar added. I like Mala, used to go there all the time, it's cheaper, and as it got sweeter and sweeter I tried others and realized Mala is less authentic. It's a good thing I don't trust Yelp reviews, and neither should you. They're real, but it doesn't mean the people writing them are real smart. Chuan. Chuan. Chuan. See? I know how to say chuan. And these guys know how to Say Chuan as well, when it comes to cooking. It's owned by a woman who is a sweetheart, the servers here are great too. Ask for extra spicy if you dare, we always do. They close a bit earlier than 9.30 sometimes, so go as early as you can. You won't go wrong with anything you order here. It's magnificent. So many good dishes! This place is super clean, nice quiet ambiance, small and intimate dining setting. Service was also super quick. Food is amazingly GOOD!!! We ordered the crispy chilli diced chicken, fish in hot spicy oil and wonton soup as starter. Every dish is tasty and spicy! They exceeded my expectations! The best sichuan cuisine I have had in a while!
Located in the Dun Huang Plaza in Chinatown, close to all the boba/ dessert places with plenty of parking in the open parking lot and the 2 garages. This place has been my favorite Sichuan style restaurant for years. Exactly how you would imagine a classic no BS mom and pop Chinese restaurant would be, traditional Chinese style interior, friendly but basic level service, complementary Chinese hot tea, and owners kids hanging out in the back. Now the food... somehow this place always hit the spot and reminds me of China. Unlike a lot of the Sichuan restaurants in Houston with fancy plates and fusion twist, this place taste like someone from Sichuan is in the back doing all the cooking for you. Couple of my "must order" each time: Hot and Sour rice noodle -- this is my favorite and my reason to be back at least once a month, no other restaurants in Houston can match the taste Lamb with cumin - the lamb is tender, great flavor with just right level of spicy if you like the cumin taste Stewed Chicken Shank - this is a cold dish, boiled chicken in spicy sauce and chili oil I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to try authentic Sichuan food!
Ordered the spicy popcorn chicken and was so yummy and flavorful and spicy. Also the garlic green beans were so good. Also ordered a noodle soup and that was yummy too. If wanting a comfort meal would definitely recommend.
We've tried this place only once so far, in May 2023. We ordered dan dan noodles - one of my benchmarks items. The portion was decent, but not exactly large. It tasted ok. There wasn't much of a peanut flavor, and the 'mala' taste was much more pronounced. The rest of the items were that we ordered were 'ok' as well: youtiao (Chinese donut), soup buns, and salty buns. We saw another table order the six baos. Those look good - maybe we'll try those if we re-visit this place.
If you are searching for chinese breakfast, this place is open and has a good selection! Open pot stickers - filling had good flavor, probably one of the highlights of the meal. Handmade Scallion Cake - reasonable, they are able to make it thin or thick. Pumpkin Pancake - I think I was expecting something big here, but it turned out to be these mini 3" pancakes with pumpkin filling. Had a little bit of a mochi taste. It was alright. Salty Tofu Pudding - this was pretty interesting since it's warm tofu in a savory soup/sauce. Its not something you find often, so was something different that I enjoyed. Tons of parking in the shopping center, so if you are coming for breakfast theres tons of spaces. Service was friendly and prompt, but it was a single lady taking care of 4-5 tables, so def a mom and pop store vibe.
My husband and I tried Sichuan Noodles for the first time on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was pretty busy, and we were seated at a corner table (a bit tight). We ordered scallion pancakes as an appetizer and three entrees: spicy crispy chicken, mapo tofu, and crispy tripe. Did not order noodles. Sidebar: I want to say that I hate their tables. There are no table legs, just a really bulky column supporting the table, and it's very uncomfortable. Whoever chose this style of table was not considering people with long legs, or legs in general. There was a bit of a wait for the food. The pancakes came out first, and they were just okay. They were kind of floppy and undercooked. The entrees then came out, along with two ungenerous bowls of rice. Look, we ordered three entrees. Why not just give us a big bowl of rice? At least the entrees were good. The spicy crispy chicken is exactly that--spicy and crispy (although not very dynamic in terms of flavor). The tripe is excellent; super crispy and flavorful. The mapo tofu is excellent, too, although it is mis-advertised. I dare anyone to find any bit of pork in this dish (it's supposed to have pork). Service is okay. You don't have just one server responsible for your table. I would've wanted the servers to circulate a bit more. Mostly they stayed at the counter. When we asked for anything, like more rice, they brought it quickly. Would come back for the food, and maybe we'll try noodles next time.
Another great weekday lunch. This place is so reliable I can always come here in a pinch. Food is authentic and fresh.
The service was courteous. Many choices for traditional Sichuan food. We ordered 3 dishes and shared between us. With Beef Brisket hot pot with rice noodles, I liked the smooth and soft rice noodles, the soup was tasty as well; for Bullfrog hot pot, it's quite spicy and typical hot pot flavor, bullfrog was tender, with a bowl of rice; lastly the Special noodles with beef, the Chinese name was fancy: the noodles to take your soul, it was authentic Sichuan flavor with a lot of green peppers which came with special flavor, nice and spicy. Overall I'd recommend this restaurant if you love spicy food.

I came here yesterday just to walk around and grab some food to go, but I had to come back again! We tried the soup dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, clear broth soup, and pan-fried buns -- everything was delicious. Every bite had the perfect amount of filling and flavor. The service was quick, and our waitress was very kind and helpful in explaining what was available. The ambiance was quiet, cozy, and family friendly. I really hope this place gets the attention it deserves! read more

Best Sichuan Foods in town!! This restaurant is family owned,cook with love and served with hospitality. The place might be a little tight but I love the table set up and decorations l,very simple and traditional Chinese ambiance.I love that they do not used too much salt for cooking and at the same time it's still tasty and delicious. This is one of Me and my daughter go to for a traditional and home cook Chinese foods. Must try the fried rice and fried fish fillet in pepper along with scallion pancake for appetizer. As you walk in to the entrance of the restaurant the owner greet you with a big smile and serve water right away in spite of not speaking English very well. read more

10/10 would recommend this place. I ordered 3 items just for myself because everything on the menu looked so promising. The Roujiamo was not the best (dough was hard, meat was fine), and I'd recommend something else instead. The Soup Buns took a while to come out, but was worth the wait. I took a sip of the Tomato & Egg Soup, and the broth was superb and just what you'd need on a cool, rainy day. And as for the Special Noodle with Beef, I did not really have any expectations, but if I did, this would've far surpassed it. It had just the perfect amount of spice, had great overall flavor, and chewy noodles. If I'm ever back in Houston, this is the first place I'd go in Chinatown. I miss it already! read more
I would not recommend ordering 3 different items that were ALL spicy but we did and it was delicious. The only thing is our tongues are tingling . Small quaint little restaurant in the back of Dun Huang Plaza. Decent service for decent food. Would recommend: - Garlic Eggplant: super delicious, the sauce is amazing and the eggplant is so soft and tender! - Cucumber Salad: crispy and well flavored. Was ok: - Fried Fish: a bit too salty in my opinion but the fish was still tasty - Szechuan Ground Pork Noodles: unless you can handle very spicy would not suggest, but decent noodles Would not get again: - C4 Szechuan Cold Noodle: VERY strong mala flavor, too strong so that it wasn't enjoyable anymore read more

There was white sticky stuff inside the cup. Mold looking spots inside the cup. The dumplings were good, but I don't think they have good hygiene. I was completely disgusted as soon as I noticed the dirty cups. read more
Came by for dinner on Saturday and double teaming for some boba after. It's located in the same plaza as a lot of the popular dessert/boba spots. Parking is plentiful but usually full on weekends; there's two parking garages if surface lots are full. Interior is old school Chinatown and quaint. Service is pretty minimal besides bringing you food and water/tea. We got the pork belly with leeks, eggplant, and a rice noodle dish. Solid home cooked Sichuan style food, similar to a Hu's Cooking or Pepper Twins. Price point is in line with most of the Chinese spots inside the loop. I wanted to start off by saying this might not be for everyone if you are not used to a numbing spice. But on that note I'm surprised how empty the restaurant was! We ordered 4 dishes and they were all amazing. The cold spicy beef, sichuan wontons in red oil, crispy spicy chicken, and finally the sichuan style beef brisket noodles. The beef noodles were not too spicy or numbing but the rest were on point with spice and numbing. I'll be back to try just about everything on their menu. I love Sichuan food. And I love noodles. So I was really hoping for the best. Actually aside from being kind of expensive, the noodles were ok. We got Dan Dan Mien and Zhajiang Mien. My two favorites. We also got the obligatory Sichuan spicy chicken. We tried to get the Chinese Beef Meat Pie but the waitress told us not a good idea. We ordered the beef clay oven roll instead. And it was also not a good idea. The shao bing (bread part) was cold and undercooked and brown in color. And the beef inside is cold with a bunch of yucky sauce. Barf. Houston is sleeping on this place. The simple names Spicy Sichuan Chicken is one of the best things I've ever eaten. The Sichuan peppercorn spice was pure finesse on their tender chicken. (I never thought I would describe a chunk of chicken as "tender" outside of calling it chicken tenders. This is NOT a chicken tender.) Their breakfast...youtao, soup dumplings, fried bao are amazing. My daughter wants to come every day for breakfast. Which is saying a lot because the only thing shes ever wanted to eat before are chicken nuggets, haha. Have been on a search for a replacement for the recently departed Chengdu Taste. This is the current favorite for Sichuan food in Houston. The fried fish was amazing, the red oil dumplings were the best I have ever had. I would pass on the eggplant with garlic sauce, it was too vinegar heavy. The boiled beef could use more mala, and I will ask for more next time, but it was very well executed. Can't wait to go back! read more

5 years later. 0 star gained. Update from last review, they added noodles in most soups. (+1) I love the small clay pot noodles with delicious soups, if they are eaten by themselves. But they are bland eating with other spicy dishes. I wish they had spicy broths. I need to add broth from spicy side dish to up the Sichuan flavor. Would I come back? No. Not a fat chance. I was only here for a small gathering with friends wanted to experience the hotpot with Chinatown Crawl meetup. Service was horrible. The wait staff didn't have patience for my friend to select a rice dish shown on TV monitor. Slideshow should had names but it wasn't informative. (-1) They got one big table to fit 8 people but only 5 seats are comfortable. One person had to dodge the bathroom door, if someone sat there. The waitstaff constantly pulling chair from our table. Because they were empty. Part of out table was used to store unused plates from other tables. WTF (-1) do we exist? We ordered 2 beef brisket noodles but only received one, because waitress didn't pay attention. (-1) My friends said it's okay, they ate more special chicken 怪味鸡 and other appetizers instead. I signaled our tea pot that needed water. Bad. We waited over 20 minutes between first dish and last dish. Bad. They lied about the ability to split check. Bad. read more
Our go to spot for authentic Chinese cuisine every time we're in Houston. We come specifically for the szechuan spicy beef fried noodles. Abundant portions and well balanced. Noodles are so light and fresh. Scallion pancake was also delicious. It's thick and piping hot fresh from the kitchen. Service is quick and place gives a comforting ambiance. read more
When my family and I walked in Sunday night, there was only 2 other tables there and the waitress kept talking to us in Mandarin. Good thing my dad knows enough to get us through because she didn't really understand me. My family ended up getting 6 items in total: Szechuan Hot Oil Wontons, Szechuan Stir-Fried Noodles with ground beef, Spicy Szechuan Fish, Pork Intestine and Blood Tofu Hot Pot with noodles, Spicy Beef on Hot Plate, and a tripe appetizer. Most of them were really good! Our favorites were the wontons, the Szechuan noodles, and the pork intestine hot pot. Those definitely hit the spot for our hearty, spicy food cravings! The noodles were the perfect texture and tasted hand-pulled. The wontons were delicious and perfectly seasoned. And the hot pot was very flavorful and the noodles in them were great as well! The Spicy Beef was good too (came with potatoes and other veggies), but there was WAY too many peppers/chilies. I scooped out a plate full of them! They're not just any peppers, they're the type to numb your tongue and tingle your lips! The fish was okay but it was drowned in oil. And last but not least, the tripe was shredded so thin that you won't even know you're eating tripe. It will be difficult if you don't speak Chinese but just point to the menu and it'll be fine. Also I don't know if it was just that day but we didn't have ice water? Only lukewarm water all evening. Either way, the lady and young man working there were really sweet and we enjoyed our food. I love that their little check-out counter and back area looks like a house kitchen. Makes the restaurant feel homey! So it was a little hard to find at first because so much is going on in this shopping center but we finally found it towards the back of the center. It's a small, quaint eatery and the atmosphere is casual. We were helped immediately and brought out a bowl of broth for appetizer I guess?? Sorry not too sure because I honestly came for one thing and one thing only, the dan dan noodles. After reading the reviews for it I had high hopes. However, they fell kind of flat when I finally received mine. They come out fresh and hot, spicy or not spicy but personally I like a thinner texture of noodle. I ordered spicy but the flavors still seem to be missing something. I threw in some extra heat and soy sauce but didn't help too much. I was really wanting to be blown away but I think I'm gonna stick to my usual spot in Montrose, the cooking girls. This is just a personal preference but I think reading the reviews my expectations were a little too high. read more

Fast and good service, although left a bad taste in my mouth. Literally. I ordered the spicy beef noodles and realized it had a funny after taste. I asked my husband to try it to see if it was just me or not. He said there was a slight after taste, and just left it on his plate without touching it again. I continued to try and finish, and intermittently took sips of my ice tea. I cringed real hard at a strange taste I had after having the noodles and then the tea. It was a sour bitter taste with a numbing feeling. Honestly I could not get the taste out of my mouth and I was kinda freaking out. I later togo the rest of my noodles and tried to finish it later. It still left a bad taste in my mouth. Weird experience. My husband thought the spicy crispy fried chicken was good, and killed the whole plate. We also ordered the chili oil dumplings, and I am assuming it is the same chili oil used for the noodles... did not enjoy it due to the after taste. Other than that, food came out fast and the ladies were really nice and packed up our food for us. I'm sure they knew I didn't like the food, but they were nice about it. read more
