I can't believe the place is still here after all of these years. There are 2 types of subs here: Italian, and "Other Subs", so you know that this shop sprang from the vibrant Italian community that once populated Detroit. The Italian Subs at Gonella's are ordered according to how many layers it builds up (which I think is a unique concept). These layered Gonella Italian Subs are layered with a variety of Italian meats (Hard Salami, Salami Cotto, Mortadella, Smoked Ham and Capicola), provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions & Gonella's homemade dressing. Soft or hard roll. Extras: Peppers (+.50) Cheese (+.50) - (Turkey is reserved for the "Other Subs). 6 Layers Meat, 1 Layer Cheese --- $8 8 Layers Meat, 2 Layer Cheese --- $9 12 Layers Meat, 2 Layer Cheese --- $12 14 Layers Meat, 3 Layer Cheese --- $13 18 Layers Meat, 3 Layer Cheese --- $14 The subs are heavy and delicious. The Service is ultra friendly. And the atmosphere feels like and Italian Deli-Market. I recommend it.

Soft sub buns, tons of stacks of meat, lettuce and tomato or not. No one goes hungry after a sub here. Some deli spots tend to skimp on the protein, but not this place. My team members favorite is the Italian, 6 stacks. I usually will go for a turkey or chicken stack. They offer up to 18 stacks, haven't tried that yet.

There's a small lot but you can park right there. It's right off of Michigan Ave so you really can't miss it but it is very small so you may not know what you're looking for. Just keep an eye out for it. They do have plenty of seats but it's not a full sit-down situation so I don't make it seem like you can bring a table of 20 in . They do have seats to sit in. There are countertops you can stand at but this is more likely a quick bite or to-go kind of situation. Even though there are people who do come in for the lunch break. But it's just basically tables and it's not a lot of frills or bells and whistles but it's still enough to have a bite to eat. The customer service is super nice and I was very taken care of and everybody was super friendly. As far as that goes that is something that has no issue . I ordered and it came pretty fast within 10 minutes so that was good. The service is quick but when I went it wasn't overly packed so that probably helped. Still it was good service and swift service as well . NY club - it was actually really good. It was very large and it got me right for lunch time for quite some time. It was put together very well and it didn't fall apart as soon as I picked it up. Turkey was warm and the sandwich was put together really well and the bacon made it pop . Cajun fries - the fries were crinkle cut and they came cajun seasoned to perfection . Would I go back? I sure would. Good customer service, solid product. Next time I go I'll probably end up getting a corned beef like I wanted to in the first place... There are plenty of options own and not just a sandwich shop... it may not be Coney Island type variety but it does have plenty of variety !

We tried several items and would easily get all of them again: Pizza slices - generously sized square slices $2.69/slice; crunchy crust, small cup pepperonis, not too greasy and all together a great tasting slice but could use a few more pepperonis per slice Meatball sub- GREAT sauce and meatballs, and I am picky about eating anyone else's meatballs other than my own Off the Boat Hoagie: spicy capicola and other spicy coldcuts and cheese (couldn't remember them all) baked inside an extra large soft roll, served warm. It was VERY GOOD. At first seemed like a lot of bread in proportion to deli cuts, but it was a perfect ratio given the spiciness of the coldcuts inside. Cannoli - light shell and filling, not overly sweet. Really liked that they used a dusting of chocolate powder (not bitter cocoa) on the ends vs hard chocolate chips. This has become my new favorite bakery for cannolis! Definitely coming back here to try more of their hot and cold subs and dishes like lasagna, pasties, soups and pasta. Other than those fantastic cannolis they have other delectable pastries, breads, cookies and desserts to try. They also carry specialty Italian grocery items, a large deli with a good selection of meats and cheeses and cold takeout fridges with pastas, whole pizzas and lasagna to bake at home. Very friendly staff, consistent stream of customers picking up subs, pizza slices, breads, and 3 small tables with chairs in the store to sit and enjoy the food if you can't wait until you get home.

I didn't even see the place (although I did choose it), but my dad really liked it. It reminded him of one of the Claro's Italian Markets in Southern California. I was looking forward to my slices of cheese pizza, but my brother called from the deli to inform me that they only had pepperoni by the slice. Look, I get it. Most people want pepperoni, and when you're serving by the slice, you can't try all these random combos that people might not eat. But no cheese? As in the most basic pizza option? That feels wrong. When I had my veggie sandwich a little later, it was very good. My brother had persuaded the guy to throw in some additional mushrooms. The bread was top notch, and I enjoyed the sandwich. For the price, it should have either been larger or included more vegetables, cheese, all of the above, anything. My dad really enjoyed his sandwich, but my brother was left wanting by his meatball sub. The local-brand potato chips were a nice touch. They use way too much plastic wrap.
