Sid's is THE NYC spot! The talent here is incredible. You'll be blown away by the talent of the singers and pianists. This is such a fun place to go to. What makes it so great is not only the talent, but also the AMAZING staff! We had servers named Brent & Kelsey and they were just lovely. They were so responsive and fun. I picked a bad time for my first visit to Sid Gold's - it was 10PM on a Saturday night and the room was full of bachelorette and bachelor parties. These groups were all talking loudly amongst themselves so the volume in the room was very loud. And the folks that got up and sang from these groups were horrible - their performances were out of key and a combination of apathy and embarrassment. Somehow, the piano player was able to keep a smile on her face through all this - it was the most impressive thing about the Room. Hung out here. I was surprised how cute the place was. Sid Gold's is unpretentious. I only hung out in the front- but wondered what was behind the curtain. I Had no clue this was a piano bar. Great decor - when you enter there is a sectional sofa that seats four with a table and two chairs. The place was not crowded and it was 7 pm on a Friday. Hands down my favorite bar in NYC. Once you walk into the bar go to the back and through the black curtain. Emerge into a magical land of live piano, karaoke, and fun. Crappy experience here. Stopped by and were seated in back at a big table. For about 10 minutes. Then the staff kicked us out of our table bc some people showed up late for their reservation. Private Party Heaven. A bit of glamour awaits you in your own back room, available from 6-9pm except on Fridays. I could not have been more pleased with our party last week. I requested the food package of appetizers and pizza and let the guests simply pay for their own drinks. John Khoury was at the piano, and he was superb. He's a genuinely good guy who's incredibly talented. My only recommendation to anyone considering an event there (if you're doing a cash bar) is to make certain that guests know to buy drinks in the back. My guests purchased drinks in the front bar area, and we didn't make our bar tab. That has never happened. Ever. read more

business in the front, party in the back. the front of the bar is a bit more subdued. dark wooden bar, a fine selection of spirits and a respectable assortment of beers. a good place for conversation and catching up. the cabinets have a lot of historic alcoholic paraphernalia - bottles, containers, mugs, and more - for brands and places that don't exist anymore. a nice change up from the usual bar decor. the lamps by the bar proper were also very similar to lamps that my grandfather had in his house. the back - past the curtains - is the event space. booths and alcoves for a bit more privacy, but more importantly, there's a piano player and you can sing karaoke (tips are encouraged). totally a blast to do on a weeknight to liven things up. We stumble onto this amazing place through yelp when we were in the area. My friends and I LOVE karaoke. We have never done it with a live piano. This was amazing. People here had good voices, but we didn't. It was still a lot of fun. The pianist was very nice and assisted with the music cues. We usually have the electronic karaoke that shows us when to sing. All you have are the words and the piano. It is so much fun. We went twice and the crowd was always great. Everyone is into the music and having a good time. There is a limited number of songs because the pianist has to know how to play them, but there was more than enough. There are seats around the piano and in booths. The front is just a regular bar, but the back is where the magic happens. There are wines and cocktails mostly. They have very little beer selection. The cocktails are good and they can also make all the classics off the menu. The service is good and the waitress was working hard. This place is a ton a fun and I can't wait to keep going back. read more

Went here on a Tuesday night for piano karaoke and it was so much fun!!! Got there around 9 and there was plenty of open space in both the front bar area and the back karaoke space. Cocktails and service were both excellent. The pianist is amazing and there were a bunch of regulars who were fantastic singers. The music selection was mostly oldies but some current hits. So disappointed about this place... I used to go often and to really enjoy it in the past (my girlfriend and I even met there!), but last time was a total nightmare. Not only was Leslie Goshko - the pianist - driven exclusively by the money (she would only play the songs with the highest tips and discard any other request), but when approaching the end of the night we literally got kicked out by the pianist and the personnel in the rudest way I have ever experienced. @Sid's: you just lost loyal customers and I recently heard the same feedback from other friends. I strongly recommend some personnel turnover if you want to stop that trend. read more

Came here randomly on Saturday night for a friend's birthday. The place was decently crowded and we didn't have a reservation. Once we walked back to the piano karaoke section of the bar (behind the curtains), a man graciously offered us a table. I learned later on that he was the owner. We ordered drinks right away from the waiter and had a blast. The piano player was fantastic, some singers were questionable, but it was an overall great experience. How much fun is a SECRET Karaoke room behind a hidden bar? This is the ultimate speakeasy for the professional singer. Kids this ain't the drunk group of girls singing at the top of the their lungs.... we are talking broadway stars belting tunes that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. We had an unreal time at Sid Gold's on Saturday night. The service, the atmosphere, the music were all above and beyond our already high expectations. Our server, Bret, was absolutely top notch from the start. We had a party of 25 people and it never once felt like we were waiting around for a drink, even though he was waiting on the rest of the crowd too. He was consistently friendly and attentive the entire time - we had some specific things that we needed his help with, such as a birthday cake that we brought, and he never once complained or did anything but help us. When we requested the cake, he went down, lit the candles, and brought it up to us at the exact time that Mark, our pianist, segued into "Happy Birthday". It was perfect. Speaking of Mark Piro - the man is a gift sent from the karaoke gods and his repertoire is like nothing I've ever seen. It's as if someone took only the best songs of the last 50 years, funneled them all into a human being, and taught that person how to play each and every song's melody on piano. He was super fun, got the crowd into it from the start, harmonized at the right times, gave helpful cues, and was clearly having a great time up there himself. We couldn't have asked for better staff - they really elevated an already epic, great time and made it even more memorable. One of the best parts is that it was such a collective experience in that room - all of the different parties, and different types of people, were mingling and talking and even getting on stage and singing with each other. The atmosphere was spot on, the drinks were good and fairly priced for the setting, the venue itself was loungy and intimate, and like I said, we had the greatest time. Over the years NYC has lost many of the fun restaurants and bars to more corporate venues that lack character. Sid Gold's brought it back! Fun, fun, fun! Easy to meet people who are there to get in front of the mic and belt out a song. The drinks are generous and the live music is often performed by talented Broadway performers who have a night off. Came here unexpectedly as the place my friend and I wanted to go to which was across the street was closing due to some snow coming in. So we walked in and it was very dim, there was a great crowd of people at the bar and a coat rack. When I went to go look for the restroom, I didn't expect there to be a backroom where they had live shows or a karaoke place. It honestly was a whole other world in the back room. You could request songs and sing on stage with your friends. They had good drinks and the manager was great and very accommodating. Great service, clean area, good drinks, very casual and you feel comfortable. This is great to meet new friends. Great location and I would recommend coming here. Looks like another new place that has lost its appeal quickly. Feels more like a college bar vs a lounge. Waitress told us we could sit at a table and the manager came by later and kicked us out to seat a larger party. No hospitality. As a piano bar, it makes no sense to keep the music blasting in the main bar, so we couldn't even sit in the main bar & enjoy the music. Not at all the experience we hoped for or the experience that this place promotes. Too many good places in the city to visit a bad one twice. read more

Came here for a company event. The back area was reserved for the group. The food that came out was good. They served us Mac and cheese, cauliflower (yum!!!), rice with sausage (mmm!!!), chicken Marsala, lamb and brisket. The food was flavorful and good. I enjoyed it. I literally would have no complaints about this place if it wasn't for the server that was serving the private group that we were in. Her name was Chevonne (spelled wrong probably). But she was just rude to my friends and I from start to finish. First, when we got there we weren't sure where to order our drinks so we stepped to the bar out front and the lady (who was just standing next to the bar) asked us what we want. We then told her we weren't sure who to order our drinks from. With no smile and inkling of kindness, "there's a server you can order from." Oh okay...so we head back. And literally 30 seconds later the SAME lady comes behind us and asks "what do you want?" Um, wait...what just happened? She couldn't just have told us when we first asked? We all thought it was bazaar but we let it go. Then things just went downhill from there. We ordered another round of drinks. I asked for vodka soda and my friend ordered maker's on the rocks (which she replied to him saying "we don't have that. You'll just get whiskey." But later that night we checked and they def had it). Just complete rude-ness. While we wait another one of us goes orders a drink from her, vodka on the rocks. Soon after chevonne comes with her drink which she basically throws it across the table to her (to the point where if my friend wasn't paying attention to stop it, it would have spilled all over her). At that point we ask, "oh, we also ordered the whiskey on the rocks." Which she responds with, "oh they're still making it." Wait...how do you "make" whiskey on the rocks? Needless to say we never got our drinks even though we reminded her. And she also told my friend she never got her credit card but once my friend reminded her she remembered and forgot to order the food she asked for, which was the first reason she took her credit card. There were other things that she did wmade the experience damp but literally, it was only chevonne that was an issue. Everyone else was SPECTACULAR! Brett, who helped us after chevonne was amazing. Went w two friends on a Friday night. We were early 8:30 so it was not crowded, we got seated in the back room right away. The pianist was very entertaining as were the singing guests. We ordered drinks , a simple cosmo $14 and when they arrived I could tell it wasn't right. My friends agreed, they tasted way too sweet but they were willing to stick with theirs. I told the server that this was not what a cosmo should taste like and asked him to take it back and bring me a simple vodka and club soda. He took my drink and brought me the vodka and club. We were hungry so we ordered a margarita pizza to share . The pizza was obviously a frozen pizza (terrible) but we did not complain. When we got the check we were charged for my returned drink and my new drink. I asked to have the drink removed and was told they would not take it off since I had no good reason to send it back. IT WAS AWFUL. So $90 (we still left a nice tip) got us 4 terrible drinks and a frozen pizza . Very disappointing read more

This week's fashionplate transports us back to a bygone era of 50 years ago and piano bars. Sid Gold's Request Room is an old school yet updated piano bar in the old Tillman's space in Chelsea. Decided to grab some drinks and a snack with a friend here and I started with a Ketel Soda and he got a cocktail with Singani 63. Being a Tuesday night it was not too crowded and their were some interesting characters singing which was quite entertaining. It was a mix between young and old but everyone seemed to be having a great time. We then ordered clams casino and mac & cheese which were yummy and ordered some French 75s made with SIngani 63 which was very good. The bartender was also very nice and funny. This bar has two sections - the front half is very nice with a chill vibe and attentive service, and the back half is a piano karaoke space with table service. We ordered a round of drinks and food in the front while waiting for a table to open up in the back, and had a perfectly good time. However, things were very different once we moved to the back - we were a group of 8 and sang all of 1 song in the 2.5 hours we were there, while the accompanist decided to entertain her "regulars" song after song. While I appreciate that there is no cover charge or fee per song request, and that the pianist seems to work hard at what she does, I will say that if you are going to loudly solicit tips via cash and Venmo and require a two-drink minimum, you should try to do a little better. I wish I could give this place a better rating, given the pretty good food and drinks, and the service out front. However, given the experience we had I cannot in good conscience recommend them or say that I would make a return visit. There are plenty of other karaoke bars in this town that will do better by their customers (and I speak from experience). read more

I've been wanting to check out Sid Gold's for a long time (and finally did!), but my first experience left me with very mixed feelings. Arrived a few minutes after 9 pm on a Saturday night with my husband and brother, who was visiting for the holidays. Headed straight for the back room, which was fairly empty except for 8-9 people seated around the piano, and two couples sharing a booth near the back. The hostess asked if we had a reservation, and when I said "no", she said she could seat us at a booth near the piano, but that the table was reserved for 11:00, and we would have to leave by then. We said "no problem" and were seated. Shortly before 10 pm, just as my husband was being called up to sing, and having ordered our second round of drinks, the same hostess came to our table and said, "Sorry, but we just had a big group come in and we need to accommodate them, so we're going to have to ask you to give up your table. You can either stand or come up to the front bar." I reminded her that she told us we had until 11:00, and she said, "I know, but we have this big group..." I said, "Can you give us a few minutes - my husband is singing now." She turned and walked away. Ten minutes later she returned and said, "Never mind - we found another spot for the other group." Okay, maybe not a major issue, but after that, I didn't feel very welcome. On the other hand, the music and singing was a lot of fun. The song list was somewhat limited, with options being all over the map,but not boring. We heard some very talented singers and some very, uh, unique singers, but all were given the same amount of support and affirmation from the crowd and we enjoyed singing along when prompted to do so. The drinks were pretty reasonably priced and the ambiance was both warm and kitschy. I will definitely check out Sid Gold's again (probably on a different night of the week) as it provides a particular communal type of entertainment that is much needed in these times and in this city, but I hope they will reconsider their 'policies' re:hospitality, and how they treat paying customers. I felt like we were treated well until a larger (translation:$$$) group arrived, then, well, not so much. Just saying. read more

This place was within close walking distance from my hotel. It looked like a lively place to grab a snack or some dessert. The closer I got to it, the more sketchy the neighborhood felt. I don't know if it was just me or not but it seems like this Street is dingy and filled with refuse. But I was hoping to be entertained by people singing karaoke type songs so I made the trek anyway. When I arrived the place was practically empty! There is no energy or life there at all. What looked on yelp to be a fun lively environment ended up instead feeling empty and divey.
