Kouign Amman
Andrea O.

What a pleasant surprise! Was in Tacoma for a violin event at the Tacoma Convention Center for my daughter and found this bakery nearby. I have to say, I had very low expectations, not sure why... but the reviews on Yelp were promising, so we tried it. The place is pretty spacious, with a few parking spots in the parking lot in front, which was pretty convenient, since it's nested inside a neighborhood, and street parking seems challenging. Got a breve Cortado, a croissant, a pain au chocolat and a Kouign Amman. Everything was absolutely delicious, the croissant in particular was extremely well done. Crunchy outside, buttery, soft and airy inside. Wonderful. Service was kind and quick. The payment UI didn't ask me for a tip, which I appreciated, since there's no service at the table and you have to buss your stuff at the end. Highly recommended!

Deep dish pepperoni pizza!

So happy they have a store front now! We discovered this gem of a bakery at the proctor market. Their sourdough is so good love their "English style muffins" today we got a couple of breakfast sandwiches highly recommend. The ginger molasses cookie I got was just the right amount of chewy and crispy. The chili garlic focaccia bread was amazing definitely has so spice to it. Service was quick and friendly love when people are engaging like the person helping us was. The space is clean and has some seating there is a small parking lot as well. As we were leaving a person ran up to us and was like can I give you a sample of our deep dish pepperoni pizza. Why yes absolutely parting gifts are great . It was so delicious.

wow! almost want to gate-keep this local bakery.... but I won't because I truly think they may be the best in the Tacoma area. They truly leveled up hilltop by opening up! location: ummm I'm sorry... it's perfect. Literally the perfect location. Safe area. They have a parking lot!! And they have two entrances. Very well thought out. The inside is very spacious and a perfect system of keeping ppl in and out. focaccia sandwich: I love that they have one sandwich, that's literally so smart. And they are all prepared ready to go. Lol I asked for it to be warmed because usually that's what you have to do when you go to coffee shops because they have sandwiches made and need to be warmed to even taste good, but then last min said for them not to warm it up. And good decision!!! Because when I tell you they made this from the bread to the spread that day and it was so fresh!! Wow I ate that up in one sitting! Also, the ingredients they use (NOT A JOKE!!) they are high quality!! Chocolate chip Cookie: wow I'm sorry best cookie I've had at a bakery. The quality of the cookie was top tier. Baked to perfection. Chocolate was melting while I was eating it. Like I'm sorry! INSANE! Classic Sourdough: I sliced it at home. When I sliced it no offense maybe idk what I'm talking about but it was really sticky. I had to slice, let sit out, and then bake it a little more and then I could eat. The bread was delicious but a little thrown off by the sticky bread. Definitely coming back and trying more things!! Best bakery to be open in Tacoma!!

Olympia Roasting Espresso

I've enjoyed Balloon Roof bread from the farmers market and was really excited to try their new bakery. The breakfast sandwich comes on a biscuit and it may be a little on the pricey side (this is not Starbucks) but it was worth every penny as it was basically my platonic ideal of a simple breakfast sandwich. The biscuit itself was perfectly salted and chewy - with no icky baking soda flavor - and the eggs, ham, and cheese were mild and yummy. Not intensely seasoned -- just salt and pepper really -- but the ingredients were clearly so good, the sandwich stood on its own. That sandwich -- as well as the fresh baked croissants -- keep me coming back. Unfortunately, the however, no matter how many times I keep trying, I don't like Olympia Roasting so I will have to get my weekend breakfast espresso elsewhere.

The sourdough is the closest you will find to San Francisco style. Scrumptious. Multiple flavors but I'm an old fashioned "classic" type of guy. Good bagels as well. And the service is terrific.

GF banana muffin, ham and gruyere croissant, cinnamon roll
Paris W.

The gluten-free banana muffin was surprisingly my favorite item that I ordered. I wouldn't have known it was gluten-free if nobody told me. The ham and cheese croissant was pretty good. The cinnamon roll/croissant was a bit dry. I wished all of the pastries were warmed up.

Ham & Gruyère Croissant, Pain au chocolat & Kouign-Amann
Jules S.

The pastries are absolutely incredible, we have gone three times already and have been so impressed. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially if you have questions about any of their menu items! Tacoma has been needing a place like this! Also-- in my photo, I over-toasted my pastries (so they look crispier than how they were actually served).

Delicious!

Everything about this bakery is awesome. The location, vibe, and, most importantly, the bread products. All fresh and fluffy with that yummy aroma wafting throughout. It is well-staffed and service is quick and phenomenal. The egg, ham, and cheese bfast sandwich is the best I've had!

We have been following them for quite a while at Farmers markets. Glad to see a store where we can buy all of their goodies!!

I know they do not have regular open hours for just walk in purchase, but rather, they're custom order type business, but I have yet to place any custom orders so I cannot speak to that experience. What made me write this review is how accurate the owner (Brianne) described cake and desserts in the description and the baked goods taste matched 200% of the description. The pistachio cake was out of the world, so was the whoopie pie!!! I got to meet Brianne in person and she was very friendly, and was kind to explain everything about each of her baked goods she had out that day. I've tried their baked goods from pop tarts to cookies to housemade Twinkie and the creation and taste are unmatched. Single serve baked goods were more on pricier side, but well worth every bite. I would definitely order custom baked goods from here, knowing the quality and taste of products from this shop!!! Currently, you can find Spilled Butter baked goods at Cosmonaut coffee, Outer Dark Coffee, and at Tacoma Farmers Market (also known as Tacoma Broadway Farmers Market) from time to time. Enjoy!!!

The service was pretty quick. Ambiance was appealing with many baked items and a very nice aroma that got my Ghrelin levels going! They have many different savory and sweet options. I ordered one of their breakfast sandwiches which came with sausage, muffin, and eggs. OH MY GOD. This was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I have tried in a while. Absolutely amazing. I am lucky that I don't live right by this place, otherwise I would spend all of my money here. I also got a sausage quiche which was not bad, but I wish I had tried some of their croissants. The croissants were placed around the corner of where I ordered, so I had not seen them. Had I seen the croissants, I would have ordered them and devoured them. I am definitely coming back to this place and HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

The floral arrangements and product displays were clearly designed with great care. All the items are wrapped in plastic wrap to keep them fresh. The shop is quite spacious, and the interesting paintings on the walls really leave an impression. All of this plays a huge role in building up their customer base. Service: The signage inside is clear, and everyone lines up in an orderly way. The staff is warm and welcoming, and they even asked if I wanted my bread warmed up. The order came out very fast--overall, a great service experience. Taste: I ordered two pastries: an almond croissant and a chocolate croissant. The almond croissant was packed with ingredients, with a thick, rich layer of processed almond filling in the middle. The texture was great--highly recommended! However, the chocolate croissant was a total disaster!!! My first bite was actually satisfying; the chocolate flavor and texture were rich. But on my second bite, I realized... it was underbaked. So disappointing.

So as my go to guide I yelped it! And up popped Kusher Bakery. You know I had to go and today we went there. It's an Eastern European bakery, and grocery store with products from multiple Eastern Europe countries. The selections are very good and then there is the bread baked daily except on Sunday. A bonus is the fact all the fresh baked bread can be sliced for you or you can take it home and slice it yourself. Having this service is great. Dark rye, 12-grain, and others that are....... well too many and all looked delicious. There is fresh baked Lavash, soft and delicious and many of the breads were still warm and fresh. The fresh piroshki! Awesome to say the least, Chicken, Cheese, Cabbage, and Apricot were available and hot. Look you can go to the other market on 70th and get very good stuff and pay quite a lot more, or go to Kusher and get a better selection and pay reasonable prices. Yes it is smaller but bigger is not always better and having this small place is a positive. For me Kusher wins hands down. So go, look around and get some awesome stuff.
