I am officially obsessed! The space is cute and inviting with a bit of an industrial feel. Lots of space to eat your treats if you cannot wait to dig in! They have so many fresh bread loaves and bagels to choose from. A case full of pastries and sandwiches welcomes you at the main counter. I've had the cinnamon roll and egg and cheese breakfast sandwich so far. The cinnamon roll is amazing (AMAZING). It's not your typical style, it's a little crunchy on the outside with a hard glaze and so soft and cinnamony on the inside. I have dreams about this thing. The breakfast sandwich was warm, the cheese such good quality, and the bread was fluffy and delicious. I've also had the chai latte which was just as good as the food items. Not only is their bread delicious--especially the apricot loaf, which is our favorite--but their sandwiches are incredible, too. My husband had the ham and cheese with arugula on focaccia, and I had the chicken and Brie sandwich with the most scrumptious fig jam. Both were fantastic. We also tried the drinks: my husband had the vanilla cappuccino and said it was excellent, while I had the London Fog tea latte, which may be the best I've ever had. It was incredibly creamy and delicious. We loved everything so much that we ended up purchasing two more sandwiches to take with us, along with a loaf of bread. And the food isn't even the only reason we'll be back. The ambiance was chill, elevated industrial and plenty of seating to enjoy the street view. Love this new bakery spot! The space is well thought out and I love that you can pick up bread, bagels, muffins, etc from the side. I got the chocolate croissant and it was so flaky with the perfect amount of chocolate. My friend got the molasses cookie and it was nice and soft with a little give for the bite - the way I like it. My latte was great too! I also love to see that they pay their workers fair wages so tipping is not necessary. It seems the employees there enjoy their job as they were very sweet. I came on a Wednesday morning and there was a steady line of patrons coming in which is great! Planning on coming here more often and trying the other baked goods. read more

So happy they have a brick and mortar now! Previously, I purchased their items at various farmers markets but can now purchase their breads more easily. They have a small parking lot and there is street parking as well. The inside was minimalistic and clean. There are tables for you to enjoy your goodies there as well as a refrigerator with some schmears and beverages. There's also shelves stocked with their baked goods for purchasing. I got their breakfast sandwich and a cookie. They were both delicious. The sandwich moved a lot in the bag so it slightly deconstructed. The cookie is consistently good and always a nice treat. Exceeded expectations Ambiance: Modern, exceptionally clean, and hygienic. It gets quite busy with customers even on regular weekdays. The decor is minimalist, with all wall hangings tied directly to the brand and its core products, which feels highly professional. I tried their Farmer market offerings before so I had high expectations and was also very excited that they have their own store front. It was pretty busy but the line moved fast. They have a good amount of seatings as well. Parking is a bit small so you might have to find street parking. The place was pretty lively and bustling. Foodwise: Fig and walnut sourdough -- good loaf, love the flavors and texture, stayed well after a few days. English muffins sandwich --- wow. These were unexpected. I saw a lot of reviews saying the English muffins was delicious but didn't expect it to be this good. It was soft like brioche, but still have the chew and characteristics. The egg was also super fluffy. Savory Danish -- also really good, love the flaky texture and the flavors was spot on I would have bought more but we were at the farmers market before this and got things from there as well. The new location in Tacoma is a cute spot with coffee and a couple of sandwich options highly recommend taking a loaf of bread home. Balloon roof fills a much needed grab and go breakfast option in Tacoma. If you Live in the area you're likely already familiar with their sourdough breads from the farmers market. Their danishes, pastries, and breakfast options are a great addition. All products are scratch made. I really like the quality of the food, the fact that they don't accept tips, and the friendly service of the staff, however, my favorite thing is that they open early! So many breakfast spots don't open at an hour where I have time to stop before work, so I really appreciate balloon roof's hours. The interior is new and has seating for about 20 people total. They have a small kids area with toys, very family friendly! They do have a small parking lot, but space is limited, so you may have to search a bit for street parking. I usually plan on walking a block or two from my car to get to the building. read more

wow! almost want to gate-keep this local bakery.... but I won't because I truly think they may be the best in the Tacoma area. They truly leveled up hilltop by opening up! location: ummm I'm sorry... it's perfect. Literally the perfect location. Safe area. They have a parking lot!! And they have two entrances. Very well thought out. The inside is very spacious and a perfect system of keeping ppl in and out. focaccia sandwich: I love that they have one sandwich, that's literally so smart. And they are all prepared ready to go. Lol I asked for it to be warmed because usually that's what you have to do when you go to coffee shops because they have sandwiches made and need to be warmed to even taste good, but then last min said for them not to warm it up. And good decision!!! Because when I tell you they made this from the bread to the spread that day and it was so fresh!! Wow I ate that up in one sitting! Also, the ingredients they use (NOT A JOKE!!) they are high quality!! Chocolate chip Cookie: wow I'm sorry best cookie I've had at a bakery. The quality of the cookie was top tier. Baked to perfection. Chocolate was melting while I was eating it. Like I'm sorry! INSANE! Classic Sourdough: I sliced it at home. When I sliced it no offense maybe idk what I'm talking about but it was really sticky. I had to slice, let sit out, and then bake it a little more and then I could eat. Balloon roof on 6th is awesome. Parking is available in a small lot behind the shop or along the nearby streets. I had abandoned my first attempt to come last week (in a truck) because of nearby street construction but got to stop in this morning. Layout is really streamlined and easy to follow, with baked goods available for purchase, a small refrigerated area, then coffee and addl ordering at the counter. Customer service was friendly, and the ordering process was smooth. I got a vanilla latte and scone. I would've liked my scone warmed up, but didn't request this. Latte was delicious (Olympia coffee) - took a moment but it looked like someone was getting trained on coffee making. Store includes thoughtful kids kitchen area, high tops and normal tables -bench+chairs. Several kids (tots) there with their parents - extremely kid friendly spot. I'll definitely be back. Oh and I appreciate their note on paying better wages so tip is included. With tip included I felt the prices were reasonable to make this a regular stop! What a pleasant surprise! Was in Tacoma for a violin event at the Tacoma Convention Center for my daughter and found this bakery nearby. I have to say, I had very low expectations, not sure why... but the reviews on Yelp were promising, so we tried it. The place is pretty spacious, with a few parking spots in the parking lot in front, which was pretty convenient, since it's nested inside a neighborhood, and street parking seems challenging. Got a breve Cortado, a croissant, a pain au chocolat and a Kouign Amman. Everything was absolutely delicious, the croissant in particular was extremely well done. Crunchy outside, buttery, soft and airy inside. Wonderful. Service was kind and quick. So happy they have a store front now! We discovered this gem of a bakery at the proctor market. Their sourdough is so good love their "English style muffins" today we got a couple of breakfast sandwiches highly recommend. The ginger molasses cookie I got was just the right amount of chewy and crispy. The chili garlic focaccia bread was amazing definitely has so spice to it. This store is a Howdy Bagel on the Hilltop. Well, it's not bagel-forward, but that's what it's giving. They have good bread and baked goods. There are some drinks but not as many as I'd like. Also, it's not about me. Everyone raves about the breakfast sandwiches, but the lunch sandwich is the real star- that and the Bostock! It can get crowded in weekends, but the line moves really quickly. I usually go after 1pm- sweet spot and all that. It's nice and wide open and staff are friendly and you don't need to tip since they pay a living wage. (There's a sign that says that.) Glad they're here. read more

I've enjoyed Balloon Roof bread from the farmers market and was really excited to try their new bakery. The breakfast sandwich comes on a biscuit and it may be a little on the pricey side (this is not Starbucks) but it was worth every penny as it was basically my platonic ideal of a simple breakfast sandwich. The biscuit itself was perfectly salted and chewy - with no icky baking soda flavor - and the eggs, ham, and cheese were mild and yummy. Not intensely seasoned -- just salt and pepper really -- but the ingredients were clearly so good, the sandwich stood on its own. That sandwich -- as well as the fresh baked croissants -- keep me coming back. I had higher hopes for this bakery on my first visit. Now I will say of all the things I ordered, the two danishes I ordered were lovely. As a pastry chef I was very impressed with these and the lemon curd cruffin I had. However that's where that ended up the croissant was dry and didnt have great flavor. The cinnamon roll was also very dry but the flavor was decent. Other than that, the service was great and the FOH staff were friendly. I'll all about sourdough and Balloon Roof is definitely my favourite! I've seen them at the market a bunch of times with a giant line. Several weeks ago the line was pretty short so I decided to try them out and WOW! I went with the roasted garlic rosemary bread. Lots of roasted garlic, great rosemary flavour, and the perfect texture. The next week I figured out that you can go to the bakery in Fife. Hours are still super limited, but it's easy to work with. This place is no frills, you grab your stuff and you go. I showed up at 9:10 and there was already quite the line out of the door! They were efficient and it really didn't take that long. I went with another roasted garlic rosemary, a white cheddar & scallion scone, and a chocolate chip cookie. The scone was amazing and seriously didn't need anything after I heated it up. The cookie was pretty good. I prefer "The Cookie," but it was still a good product. Balloon Roof is officially the sourdough place for me! read more

I am so happy to see this place open up!! Popped in on a Friday morning. Perused the bakery rack near the front door. I WANTED to try EVERYTHING...but one can only eat so much bread at a time, so I REALLY had to restrain myself!! I chose the pickled jalapeño and cheddar loaf. Also picked up some sourdough English muffins. Picked up a cheddar scallion scone, a ginger molasses cookie, and a focaccia: sun-dried tomato and red pepper. The loaf: great choice! Lots of cheddar bits inside and love the little bump of tangy warmth from the pickled jalapeños. The scone: SO YUMMY! My furbaby got a little nibble and he loved it as well! The English muffins: HUGE!! And so tasty!! The cookie: it was ok. I would have preferred a bit more flavor, whether more molasses, more ginger or more spices...just a little something to make it stand out a bit more. The focaccia: OOOOOOO SO GOOD!!! Love the flavors of the toppings on this bit of soft, fluffy goodness!!! The staff were all fabulous. So kind and welcoming. Loved the laid back vibe of the bakery. Guests sitting around drinking coffee, munching on the goods, chatting...very nice! Also got a latte. They don't have much in the way of flavors: vanilla and cardamom...so I got a little of both...
