We were having such a great evening, we decided to get a drink but were clueless as to where. We decided to walk down the street and find a spot which turned out to be Binks. We grabbed a table and immediately were amused by the diverse cast of characters who were throughout the inside and outside spaces, including playing a game of pool. Everyone seemed to kinda know each other which was already a different dynamic since everyone bar I have been in is smaller groups of people who are there together and separate. The music... every song was fantastic... New Order, Men Without Hats, The Cure, Berlin, The Sugarhill Gang... come on, so good - impromptu dancing and people with really great energy. I was on the fence about getting a pizza when a random guy had JUST grabbed a pizza at the counter right there... he put it in front of me and my friend saying to have it since they messed up and added olives. It was is pineapple and olive... I actually hate olives... but my friend loves them and hates pineapple! So she ate the olives and I ate the pizza. It was actually quite delicious - even better as it was free! By the end of the night, we were friends with the whole bar and everyone joined in for an impromptu sing along (thx Wayne's World) to Queen's Bohemian Rapsody. As most have noted, this is…read moresimply a super chill, no frills neighborhood pub that leans divey but manages to still feel completely inviting, with incredibly accommodating bartenders and better grub than you'd expect. The place (called 'The Stone' these days) is a bit small and low-lit, with an L shaped bar in one corner, and indoor seating can be tight. No worries, those things are right up my alley. We walked in, didn't see any empty seats and were ready to split, but to her total credit, the barmaid spotted our dilemma pronto, and made sure we got the next table that was leaving - so, 5 minutes of waiting, max! I got a meaty, nicely cooked burger which came with an outstanding pile of fries -- thin and crispy on the outside, with just the right amount of salt. My beer was frosty, the vibe was conspiratorial but homey and the service was A+. There's an outdoor area with a fire pit if you need some air, nothing fancy but nice to have. It's free street parking but kinda limited around here so be prepared to hoof it. All in all a solid thumbs up.

I tried to tip adequately, and sometimes a special tip. I brought the staff flowers, gave one bartender two FREE, expensive suede jackets, and other items. I usually frequented KO's prior to 5 PM. Several times I came at night. A few months ago was one of those evenings. I came in to try to cheer myself up, as a few days prior my favorite cousin had died. (It was the 6th death of a loved one I had experienced in just over a year.) FOLKS, I WAS GRIEVING! A guy next to me started to talk politics. I told him politely I did not want to talk politics. He persisted, even stronger. I told him again I was not in the mood to talk politics, as I was grieving! A woman walked by and told him she agreed with him. Then she went to the other end of the bar and got two other people to verbally attack me! In the fragile state of mind I was in, I had a RARE outburst of anger, as I had just come there that night to try and cheer up. I regret shouting at these 4 people, but imagine if you were grieving the loss of a loved one, and were bombarded and mocked for your differing political beliefs. I quickly paid and left, still being mocked and criticized because I did not share the liberal Democrat beliefs of these people! I try to respect the differing politics of people, but not if they mock and ridicule my opinion. There is a word for the attitudes of these 4 people: IT IS CALLED 'BIGOTRY'! Bigotry is the intolerance of people or groups who think differently than you. It is now my opinion if you are not a liberal/Democrat, who are considered a 2nd class citizen at Katie O'Brien's. They are bigoted towards Conservatives and Christians. Last week after not being there for 2 months, I found out from one bartender, little Sammi, that they voted to '86' me! She said, "You told everyone, "F---k You!" NOT SO! I would never had said that to Sammi, as she and Stephanie were my 2 favorite employees! My angry outburst was aimed at the 4 bigots who were verbally attacking me over politics, something I CLEARLY expressed I did not want to talk about as I was grieving! Can you believe this?! I guarantee you these 4 liberals were not 86'd for their horrible behavior towards me! (Apart from this night, I have routinely witnessed a black man who routinely goes in there making all sorts of vulgar comments about women, and I guarantee you he has not been 86'd!) I AM VERY, VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE STAFF FOR MAKING THIS DECISION, CONSIDERING TWO YEARS OF VERY MUCH TRYING TO BE NICE TO THEM. They show disloyalty to me, over one bad night, where I was provoked and belittled. I guarantee you if I was a far-left liberal Democrat, I would not have been 86'd from here. As a former businessman, I will tell you that having a bias against people because of their political and/or religious beliefs is not only bigotry, it is a HORRIBLE business model! I cannot recommend this restaurant due to such a lack of loyalty, and for their people slandering me with others. If the slander continues, I will seek legal action against Katie O'Briens. Marinara so good... I almost put a straw in it…read more Something told me this was a place to go to. I originally went to another establishment across the street and I sat down, looked at the menu and got up and walked out. I passed this place on my way to the place. I was originally headed and wanted to come back. It was lunchtime and they had open sitting and I noticed the hockey game was on all the TV screens. There was open seating. The bartender took my order at my table. I decided to get the barbecue chicken calzone and the garlic fries. The barbecue chicken calzone came with pulled chicken cheddar cheese, onions and barbecue sauce. The barbecue sauce was perfect sweet spicy Tan. Everything you want and a great barbecue sauce. I did ask for marinara because there were some sides of the bread on the calzone that I dipped in the pizza sauce.. perfect! I told the bartender what I'd like to drink, and he made some concoction a.k.a. his own version with ginger, beer and whiskey. The calzone was great. The fries were amazing. My beverage was perfect and right on time. Nice hometown feel local sports vibe, the USA Olympic team had just won gold in women's ice hockey. This may be a must-stop next time I'm in Portland.

Pizza! We didn't know, there's a FIFA game going on TV. It's no wonder, the two waitress were super busy! It took a long time for us to get our orders in. I told hubby, "I'm going to the restroom to wash my hands, and if she's not back to take our order, by then, we're leaving!" A lady tried the door to the restroom, and she thought someone was inside. We stood in line, waiting for her to come out. Then, our waitress said something, to turn the handle, it's just stuck (I'm not sure, something like that), so the lady in front of me, tried it harder, and the door opened. I only went there to wash my hands, then, I heard METAL DROPPED on the floor! That's what it sounded like. She was only closing her stall door, but it was so loud, metal to metal, it wasn't closing smoothly, but very noisy, that it startled me! I didn't like using the drying machine, I looked for a paper towel dispenser, there was none. I'm supposed to touch the dirty doorknob, with my clean & drippy hands? I used my skirt, to dry my hands, and the back of my fingers to turn the knob, as I said earlier, it was hard to turned the handle, hurting my knuckle right index finger. I was using the cold water plastic container, that the waitress brought in, so I don't bruise. The pizza we ordered: Mr Toad's Wild Ride, she throw in handmade pub meatballs, was very, very good! I saved one slice for my lunch tomorrow. Our waitress was very helpful! Once again, waiting for our receipt took another long wait, it was crowded, because of the game, I also thought to surprise our oldest son's big 5 - 0 birthday in a few weeks, but after the negatives above, and it can get very noisy . . .
