My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here! They were really accommodating (we asked morning of around 10:30 AM for a late checkout and they said noon would be fine). It would be a fun place to come with a group as well, with a pool, hot tub, and multiple fire pits to hang out at. Super cute rooms, most of all clean and tidy. Compared to other hotels in Solvang it's on the affordable side. Keep in my mind they include breakfast. Fruit, juice, bread, and yogurt. Also free coffee and pastries in the lobby. They have a great new remodeled gym, fire pits are such a nice hang our spot in the evening. Location was good too, only 5 min from the Ostrich farm and 7 min to Solvang. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. This is now my new go-to hotel when I visit Solvang. read more

This hotel is a diamond in the rough. I'm so glad we found this place. Every room is so clean since it is brand new. This is a renovated hotel which was previously a Days Inn. The rooms have a contemporary style with a Western touch in its decorating. Bathrooms are super brand new and super clean. Rooms come with a keurig-like coffee maker, ironing board, flat screen tv, and a mini-fridge. They have a nice fire pit with several large beach wooden chairs around the pit. They have a large outdoor pool in the center of the hotel. Even the management has been renovated and the staff are friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this hotel and have bookmarked it for our next vacation. read more

First impressions last a lifetime. Tonight, three miles west of Solvang, right off the freeway will be one of the best. I will update more when I am done with my stay. We stopped in before our Solvang journey. We wanted to see if we could get a jumpstart in dropping off the luggage, relaxing a bit etc. at around 1pm, way earlier than check-in at 3pm. Our room wasn't ready and it was early so we weren't able to, but Marilyn was so wonderful. Great friendliness and smile. After a some time in Solvang and dinner we headed back to our Inn. Christina finalized check-in. She was very kind as I was exhausted. The night before in Ventura was a nightmare and I was t i r e d! There is a campground next door, and you could smell a camp fire. Delightful, but not overpowering. There was also a wonderful fire pit by the pool and spa, and one on the other side of the hotel with lovely adirondack chairs surrounding it. Our room in its tasteful blue hues, "wood" floor and artwork from the Santa Ynez historical society was beautiful. I cannot believe this used to be a Days Inn!! Our room also had a small full refrigerator, microwave and Keurig. I had read a previous review of dim lighting. There is one large pendent light, the old filament style. It's a cool light. There are also two side lights on the bed I want in my bedroom. So wonderful to read by! On the desk, and by the bathroom there is other lighting as well. If you didn't turn on any lights, I think that it would be a little dim, with all the lights on it's really bright. I have a tempurpedic Rhapsody at home. I am not sure what this mattress is, but it's a slice of heaven right now! So far the only negative is the roadway sign to turn in. TBC. Will update once our trip is over. This place is the WORST. Although purportedly dog friendly, all of the small subpar rooms open straight onto a high traffic parking lot, so if your dogs are anything like mine, you will have to go to lengths to keep them from running out of the door into the path of danger. Their "dog park" is actually a diarrhea stained gravel pit, and a small one at that. Their "sister resort" is actually a trailer park, filled with the sort of people one would expect to find, who fill up the noisy bar which is unfortunately one of the two or so restaurants that are nearby. Unless you're the kind of lowest common denomination that enjoys packs of overweight white people braying insensately to the lilting tunes of "Margaritaville" and "Red Red Wine" on repeat, this is not the place for you. The town is desolate, Anderson's pea soup is a decaying shadow of former glory, no nearby restaurants deliver, no uber will come to drive you safely to wine tastings. The hotel itself is so freeway adjacent that you'll be breathing in the fumes, while trapped in an isolated white trash hellhole without so much as a lawn to walk your dogs on. The showers (doorless) are set up so you actually have to get your hair wet in order to turn them on and off, the pool is cold, and the "balcony" consists of two shabby lawn chairs propped up in a common area with a great view of screaming children jumping into the pool. We left a day early, (and of course they kept the money for the third night) but it was a small price to pay to return to civilization. Save yourselves the anguish! read more

Originally I was told we were going to stay in a hotel in Solvang. Once I was told there was a change in plans and we were staying at the sideways inn (never heard of it) I was so sad because I thought solvang would be a cooler experience. I ended up being very pleased with Sidewqys Inn. It's a nice hotel and an amazing experience. I will DEFINITELY love to come back. I ended up being perfectly okay with not staying in solvang . The only complaint I have is that only one light bulb was working. So it was dark in our room most of the time. Also, there's a movie based on this place called Sideways. All the local places are featured in the movie which is really cool. I overall had an amazing experience and made my summer enjoyable. The bar is amazing and a great atmosphere read more

Solvang is already cute enough, but this inn was adorable. The space in the hotel room was more than enough for our family of 4 and we loved the balcony area where you could watch the pool action and hop in if you wished. They had continental breakfast that was delivered to you in the morning which was very convenient for us, running about to get things packed for our day in Solvang and Santa Barbara. The bathroom is a little small but we were able to make it work. The price is unbeatable! read more

We've been staying at the "Sideways Inn," aka "The Windmill," off-and-on for close to 10 years. It was always an average stay at an average cost, no big deal. The new renovations are impressive. All the rooms have hardwood floors, new bed spreads, bathroom, decor, etc. The shower design is modern, but the design is sort of impractical, i.e. you must get into the shower before you turn the water on. Hope you like a blast of cold. But it's not a deal breaker. But, BUT, the rooms have plastic blinds installed over the windows (the door is a transparent glass), and the room cannot be blacked out at night. Imagine a blast of diffused light coming in from the windows and glass door. Now, black-out curtains would be ideal to adjust the amount of street light coming in at night, which is considerable. For us, at least, the light screwed with our sleep, and we did not get a good night of rest. On the 2nd evening we taped a blanket over the glass door, which helped block out the light, but that's something a guest shouldn't have to do. So it's bittersweet, because we've been loyal to the Windmill throughout all these years, but we can essentially go across the street to Pea Soup Anderson's (which has black out curtains), who has a comparable price and accommodations. Pros: Nice job on the renovations, much-needed. Cons: The renovations have major design flaws, and there's no way to black out the rooms at night, unless you MacGyver it up. read more

Had the pleasure of staying at this motel. Had a room on the second floor over looking the pool. The newly remodeled rooms were nice. Beds comfortable and for a change, plenty of pillows. The lavender scented shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap and lotion were a nice touch. Just a charming room. I would also like to acknowledge grounds/pool keeper Tom and Marilyn in the office. I was sitting outside by one of the fire pits on Sunday morning and Tom came up and offered to turn on the fire. This made for a nice touch on a slightly chilly morning. Marilyn was also a great help verifying a future reservation I have over at Flying Flags R.V. Park. The bartenders Friday evening and Saturday evening were also both very helpful and nice. Jessica made it a point to provide me with the name/number of a reliable taxi driver in the area. Really enjoyed my week end in Santa Barbara Wine Country and my experience at The Sideways Inn certainly contributed to a great week end. read more

Cutest hotel I've been to. They're super accommodating and everyone has great customer service. My favorite part is before you go to sleep you pick what you want for breakfast on a little sheet, pick a drop off time, and leave it on a clip on your door. In the morning everything is packed nicely in a paper bag which they hang on your door. This is super convenient when you're on vacation and always on the go. Within the small town of Buellton lies a hidden gem, tucked away and almost easy to miss ones journey through the state. Okay creative writing class aside, I was pleasantly surprised how gorgeous this Inn was - sliding barnyard doors, spacious rooms, and incredibly comfortable beds make for the perfect pit stop for our family's Christmas trip. My mother actually wanted to book another place that's a bit more well known located just down the street, but I've always had less than great experiences there. So I took the liberty of arranging accommodations this time around and I don't regret it. Some of my favourite features of Sideways Inn include: - Breakfast is delivered to your front door at whatever time you like. Though there was quite a limited selection, the idea of not having to trot around an open space full of half asleep guests trying to get their breakfast could not be beat - The Inn provides shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap and even lotion by means of a huge pump bottle for each. Let's face it - "theft" of hotel toiletries is as common past time as watching baseball. When people take those small bottles of shampoo and conditioner, when do they actually end up using them? That's what I thought. Those pump bottles are a life saver for someone like me who'd rather not pack my own toiletries but is annoyed by how the dinky amount hotels usually give guests. Plus those pump bottles match the aesthetic of the room. - Most. Comfortable. Pillows. Ever. - Check in and check out was a breeze. - The mini fridge was pretty huge and empty so we got to fill it with our drinks (I don't care much for those pre-filled fridges where you pay to eat/drink the contents of the fridge.) - Never seen a hotel room have a white noise machine so I loved that, though my dad turned it off after about an hour or so. If I were to make suggestions for improvement: 1. Please add more items to your breakfast selection. There's probably a reason why it's so limited but a croissant or cereal would be fab 2. The water pressure of the shower was quite weak. Is there a way pump a bit more out of those bad boys? 3. The TV remote wasn't working so we had to go up to the TV to look for shows and increase and decrease the volume These inconveniences were minor enough that I was able to overlook it since everything else was great. Overall would recommend this Inn to anybody looking to book! read more

I am only giving the place a 3 because I don't want to hate it but I must update my review. We checked in and everything was okay until we noticed the shower not clean, everything is broken, and not being updated. The tv aside from taking forever to change a channel and it is 32in big did not work. The signal went out the entire stay. Not that it matters since you don't go to watch TV but seriously fire pits, pool, bar is closed after a certain time and of course you want to enjoy a nice movie in your room after a fun day. We called they tried to fix it and they never checked on us like they said they would. Upon check out I asked to at least remove the ridiculous resort fee because of the many issues of the room but they said no. Because I had booked outside of their hotel. Why does that even matter if the resort fee is paid directly to them. Bunch of you know what. Now here's where I was really disappointed!!! The damn free breakfast and no Danish pastries in the lobby. The breakfast is so nasty and cheap I rather they didn't offer it at all. I come and stay here so often before covid because like I said I like the place and I enjoy the town for their wines plus I pick up my bottles too. But their breakfast is nasty I'm sorry I just can't get over it and cheap. Ugh what is going on here. This place use to be a wonderful quick getaway for us. Great place to stay away from the coast a little and in wine country. Room was nice and clean; quiet, peaceful and relaxing for the most part. Didn't like/understand the open-bay half door on the shower. Pool area is nice I like that there are speakers with music playing, the fire pits are nice, and despite the limited options: one of the better breakfasts I've experienced at a hotel. Very close to the cool Danish town of Solvang that my fiancée and I explored with beautiful wine ranches engulfed in trees along the way and an ostrich/emu farm where you can feed them for very cheap! This review is just for the bar that is next to the hotel it's fine for drinks but don't order any of the hot bar food. We ordered these so-called boneless wings and they were microwaved chicken nuggets with a squirt of buffalo sauce on them and the pot stickers were also microwaved and both were hotter then sin and steaming when brought to us. We had a very pkeasnt 2 night stay. The room was clean and our location was quiet. The amenities are very nice, although many were closed due to covid. The gym is one of the best i have seen, with lots of cardio and weight equipment. We made a reservation to enjoy the pool, which was very clean and nice. Breakfast was delivered to our door, each item individually wrapped for covid-19 safety. All service personnel were courteous and efficient. Everything is so thoughtful and intentional. Beautiful rustic accents, barn doors to the bathroom in your room. They make their own lotion shampoo and conditioner in every room and shower. Nice and renovated, a bit pricey but perhaps it was because we were there on a holiday weekend. Comfortable bed. Lovely spa and firepits. (although a lady came into the spa in her bra and underwear so isn't the classiest crowd). We didn't try the pool. They are pet friendly but didn't tell me there was a 50$ pet fee with a 100$ deposit until I arrived, which was annoying. It is also really close to the highway and was a bit noisy - not helped by the very thin front doors. Free breakfast is very limited but nice that it's free. Rooms are still being renovated --- our room had a lot of dust from the construction in the adjacent room. They gave us 10% off for it...but started construction at 8AM on a Saturday morning... read more

This hotel is a very nice place to stay and I had a good experience the one night my family and I stayed there. I drive an electric vehicle and chose this hotel because there are several charging stations available in the parking lot. This makes traveling with an EV so very convenient. I called the hotel days before to confirm the charging stations they listed as amenities were working and to make sure I could use them. The staff knew very little about them but said they were working. On arrival they told me where they were and that they didn't manage them but I was free to try and use the charging stations. I was delighted to see two level 2 chargers and one express DC Fast charger! This is rare for small hotels. After exhausting all attempts including calling the number in the chargers, I gave up getting them to work! The brand on the charging stations is EV Express and I believe the company has gone out of business so the don't answer the phone! So, no luck charging my car but as a EV car enthusiast, I always have backup plans but it was a shame not to be able to charge overnight... Provide working EV charging stations and I'll come back! read more

we recently had several staff attend a corporate event (unfortunately i wasn't able to attend). all 11 staff that our county sent had wonderful things to say about the hotel itself, it's clean, modern and comfortable. I did receive a few remarks about the bar closing early and or a couple staff felt they were treated different than other patrons, not in the best way. However the main reason for this review other than great location, great atmosphere, i have had to follow up with getting copies of folios and receipts and have spoken to Brock and let me tell you, he is AMAZING! read more

I was greatly & pleasantly surprised. This is an excellent location literally right off Hwy 101 yet I never heard any traffic noise at all & only ever heard one guest. The cool pool & warm greatly jetted jacuzzi were perfect after a hard day of riding. My room was beautifully decorated, spacious & the bed very comfy! The pillow are so nice & fluffy I only had to sleep with one. Having the Shower gel, shampoo, conditioner & lotion with lavender scent was a great combo! My boyfriend and I planned a weekend in Solvang and chose this place to stay. 1st the woman at the front desk was very nice/informative and made us feel at home. 2nd the room was AMAZING, it was beautiful. clean, spacious and the microwave, mini fridge and keuring machine came in so handy we went to Ralph's down the street for afternoon snacks as we stayed in for the evening. I loved the shower, the door was so cool, a sliding door! 3rd the delivered breakfast was fantastic, really came in handy as a snack on our way out. 4th the price was not bad at all, you can pay that at other places that are not even 1/2 as nice and or accommodating. We will be coming back hopefully in the summer so we can also enjoy the pool. read more

Beautiful hotel, great rooms, & customer service. Very clean! I loved the furniture in the room it was very modern and comfortable. I'm such a bathroom person and this one didn't disappoint! The shower design is beautiful and they are eco-conscious so instead of little bottles they have shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in little squirt bottles. There is a pool, a fitness center, a hall for business meetings, a little bar. Etc. We checked in Super late because we went to Chumash, and we still received superior service and they let us check out an hour later! Thanks guys! We will be back! read more
