This is a great little Inn for Solvang. The staff is 5 star friendly and helpful and you get a ton of value for your buck here. It's actually not that far from downtown Solvang and the wineries you get in a beautiful drive on the way to Los Olivos and Solvang. A gem of a place, redone and so cute! We try to stay here every time we come to Santa Ynez Valley. We are cyclists, so it is super convenient to all great routes in the area. It is connected to the Flying Flags which is another amazing place. You can utilize the facilities there too. Breakfast in the morning is included with stay. Yes, it's been renovated and the lobby, pool & lounge are very nice and upscale in a mod hipster way. It is centrally located in downtown Buellton. However, The rooms lack some of that initial charm. Somehow you still feel like it's a cheap motel. The beds & pillows are big but hard. We were located on the first floor overlooking the pool, but the only privacy we had was a blackout curtain over the patio slider. No sheers or privacy curtains at all. That meant the room either had to be totally dark if we were inside or else everyone could see directly into our room. Seriously? Next, there was a chair, a big coffee table and a large stained couch along with a fridge & desk . The room was very tight and crammed with all of that furniture. I say, lose the couch and just have 2 chairs with a small table between. The bathroom was nice & the dispenser lotion, soap, shampoo/conditioner is a classy touch. The complementary breakfast in the morning was just OK. They may have offered fresh Danish pastry but nobody ever came out to replenish the tray in a very crowded dining room. How about serving your creamer in a pitcher instead of cheap pre fab individual units? Sideways lounge comes alive at night and it is a lot of fun. The only downside was I could hear people partying at 1:30 in the morning which woke me up. Oh and I paid about $323 per night to stay here, I don't know who's rating it with only two $ signs as inexpensive but this place is pricey, for the money I will probably not be back. read more

Spotlessly clean! I didnt take pictures but it's exactly the same on other pictures here. Modern decor but very homie like. We visited the casino nearby and the room rate there was 1000$! So we had to go somewhere else last minute and found this gem. Nice lady, Kimberly, checked us in at 2am and gave us a huge discount! Rate ended up at 100$. Also gave us late checkout at noon. My husband and I just had a terrific stay at the Sideways Inn. The renovation is beautiful and the place has everything you could want. The room was spacious with great amenities. Real wine glasses, coffee maker, great WiFi, room to sit both in the room and outside. The staff was amazing from the easy checkin by someone who remembered when I called to make the reservation, to the agent who solved a problem for us. Our breakfast was delivered right on time. The accommodations were cute. It was clean. I like being able to bring our dog. The morning breakfast was convenient. The toiletries were perfect. I would stay again only if the pool were heated. I stayed here 1 night and the vibe was off. The girl who tended to us at check in (night), which I was told by other staff her name is Joanne, was not welcoming. I explained to her my uncle just came from another country, and that we're not from Buellton. I would be welcoming to any guests, more so make the foreigner feel extra welcomed. She was just nonchalant about it. When we got to our rooms we realized we didn't pack toothbrushes. I called the front desk to ask if they by any chance had toothbrushes. Joanne said I can go to a store near by if I wanted to. I asked her again if she's absolutely sure they don't offer toothbrushes or that I'd even by it from them. I was exhausted after driving for hours so I was trying to AVOID going out after settling in the room. Joanne said no. So I said "ok I'll just go buy some" and thanked her. I came back from the market and went to ask a question in the lobby. I let Joanne know I was back with toothbrushes. She needs to work on hospitality because she represents this hotel. She was weirdly cold and uncaring the entire time but I didn't bring that up as I just wanted to rest. The next morning when I checked out I asked to speak to whoever is in charge, the supervisor lady was there and I told her they should have it on their main site that they don't provide toothbrushes. The supervisor lady said "yes we do, all you need to do is ask." The supervisor turned around, opened a drawer behind her and took toothbrushes out. I WAS COMPLETELY SHOCKED AND UPSET. HOW COLD ARE YOU TO NOT OFFER YOUR GUESTS TOOTHBRUSHES WHEN THEY ASKED FOR IT? I explained Joanne's attitude was off the night before and anyone who works in a hotel should have a welcoming spirit first and foremost, but I also asked her why she thinks Joanne refused to offer me toothbrushes and instead told me I should go to the market. The supervisor lady who also needs to work on her people skills as she became irritated at me and didn't even look me in the eyes while talking to her said she didn't know and she really isn't sure who it was. A supervisor should have the common sense and ability to check the schedule and know exactly who worked at what time, and should have the decency to apologize for Joanne's failure to make my stay enjoyable. It was a 1 night stay I don't understand why they wouldn't make it as pleasant as possible. It doesn't matter how long a person stays, hotel staff should always be pleasant and welcoming. That area of work is all about hospitality. 1 more thing, they gave us cold bagels in plastic wrap but didn't let us know we have the option of walking all the way back down and around to the lobby to toast it. I was hoping for a better experience but was sadly let down. The reviews I read really had me hoping for better. The hotel completely forgot about my room for breakfast on the first day. I didn't exactly have any time to deal with this either, as I was already on a time crunch for having to be at my best friend's wedding early in order to prepare. I woke up and the menu for breakfast was still hanging outside my door. I had to race out the hotel to make it to my friend in time. I was in the bridal party and already was on a time crunch. My bf was able to question the hotel after he dropped me off and they admitted they forgot about us. They gave us breakfast in the afternoon. No point delivering late breakfast when I had to be out of the hotel by 9am and not to return until late that night. All other bridal party stayed at the Marriott down the road. I should have booked my stay there. It was definitely not worth the $$$ I spent staying here. The beds were uncomfortable and I couldn't shower effectively because the water pressure was so low I couldn't wash the soap off. Save your money and go somewhere else. I'm never going to stay here again. read more

My husband and I had a great stay here. We stayed three nights in a King suite. Very comfortable room and bed, the heater/ac worked fine with no smell. Instead of a cheesy continental breakfast they have a little menu you can clip outside your door and they bring it to you! Somehow the benefit of having it brought to your room makes it so much nicer! There's a Keurig and the coffee was good. There is complimentary tea in the lobby and the front desk person, June, was very friendly and went out of her way to make us feel welcome. There's a nice outside area with a heated pool and fire pits, too! A very nice place to stay, definitely recommend and will be staying here again. read more

This Friday we had to evacuate because of the fire in Goleta. Most of the hotels in Santa Barbara and Goleta were booked so we looked to Solvang and Buellton. We were so lucky to find the Sideways Inn which gave us a big discount because of the fire and also would allow us to bring out two small dogs. We found the staff to be wonderful and helpful, the room was big and very clean. There was grass areas we could walk the dogs, they provided a free continental breakfast.. My husband and I have been staying at the Sideways Inn for many years. The rooms are lovely, clean and well maintained and the staff are friendly. After a chaotic covid year, we finally got to come back to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary. The one issue I have is covid related. The protocols are in place (e.g., clean towels and trash pick up are only done upon your request; everyone is wearing masks, etc) but one important one is stated but poorly or not enforced. When we got here we were told that to use the pool facility we would need to make a reservation ahead of time. So I made a reservation on Saturday morning to use the jacuzzi in the evening. I was told that I could reserve it from 7:30-8:30 pm. I arrived at the lobby , checked in and got a clean towel (awesome!). I got to the jacuzzi and two kids who had been in the pool try to enter the jacuzzi. I say, excuse me, I've reserved this in the morning. They politely get out. In a few minutes their mom comes to tell me that she checked in the lobby with the employee and he told her that reservations aren't necessary and that the kids can get in. Annoyed, she proceeds to tell me that her children will get in the jacuzzi with me (unsupervised). They do and sit quietly. By then she had gone back to her room. After a few minutes I got out and left. So what is the policy ? If it's a free for all then I am going in whenever I want. Why should I have to entertain the protest of an annoyed mother when I just came to enjoy the facilities? ( and paid just like she did). Am I the only following this rule? Don't set up rules that you are not willing to enforce. Not good for business and it sets customers up against each other. So disappointed. read more

This was our 1st visit to Sideways Inn. The update is great. We really loved the decor. We enjoyed a nice walk through the neighboring RV park we used to stay at. Loved the on site lounge, great decor as well. Breakfast delivered was cool. Croissants, yogurt, fruit. Enough to start out your day. The only cons we found were- the shower..although the 1/2 enclosure looks fancy, its not functional, and the showerhead/ pressure. Wow..I had to use a washcloth to make sure I had gotten the soap off me. Someone elses review mentioned "bird bath" ..great example.Thank goodness I didnt need to wash my hair. We also found that having a glass door doesnt do a great job of keeping the light out. Sorry I prefer a dark room. The biggest reason we wont be back was the noise. Our room was in the back if the hotel- so no noise from the pool or lounge as previously mentioned in other reviews. I am not a light sleeper, but A woman in a neighboring room started coughing in the middle of the night- not her fault - bur holy cow.. it must have woken up all the surrounding rooms. I could hear her walk to the bathroom, close the barn door. Then everyone around us was up, toilets were flushing, you could hear talking clearly. It was awful, went on for the next few hours. Walls are to thin. Maybe the person in the other review who said this place was quiet didnt have anyone around them. Its a great place for the price, but I will pay more for thicker walls. read more

I really want to love this place. And for the most part, our two night stay was ok. The rooms have been very nicely remodeled however, there's a little bit of a design over function issue. The bathroom is really cute with a super fun black and white tile. The counter is spacious and I love that they actually had hand soap and lotion in bottles on the counter. The shower is super cool looking but the shower head is really really bad, like comically bad! I had a hard time just rinsing soap off my body because there is no pressure. I didn't bother washing my hair in it because it would've taken forever to get it rinsed. Instead I washed my hair in the sink. A new shower head would be ideal!! The bed was super comfortable, hallelujah!! But the walkway lights outside the door are quite bright and the built in blinds in the glass door don't block it out at night so that's frustrating. Overall the room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. Just the shower was the biggest bummer. The pool area was nice and the pool towels were quite large which was awesome- I ended up taking my pool towel and using if after my shower because hotel room towels are tiny (but that's the majority of hotels!). For the price I'd probably stay here again. But please oh please fix the shower heads!! :) read more

We came up for the weekend to celebrate our friend's 50th birthday. Check in was easy. The room was clean and beautifully decorated. Loved our little patio. Although the room overlooked the pool and was on the freeway side it was very quiet. Breakfast delivered to our door was a treat. We also loved the little makeup towel. Great idea. Sitting by the fire pit was a nice way to relax after a day of wine tasting. Our only small complaint was the water pressure in shower was a little low. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return in the future. read more

I called this property to confirm my reservation which was booked through (Hotels.com) and the women who answered mentioned that my booking was not showing up on their system. And she mentioned to call the third party to make sure that my reservation was confirmed. In short the reservation through the third-party was showing in their system but not connecting through the hotel. I called the "hotel" a second time per the third-party's request to do to double check once again only to be told the same information by the same agent that my reservation was not showing up. It was only urgent to me because the reservation was for the next 2 consecutive nights from this evening of booking the room. Unfortunately I played ping pong phone calls between the third-party party and the hotel as they were not able to call each other to resolve my issue. My third through 9th call with the hotel went unanswered. She would not pick up my calls. So I had my partner call from a different number and she picked up the call. But alas the confirmation number that the third party provided me (which was a different number than shown on my actual booking) still did not work and still I had no reservation. The hotel agent also went on to bad mouth the third party company saying, "I don't recommend booking through them as these things happen all the time with this company. And the customers drive to the hotel and they have no reservation or room." She was correct in manner as I would have driven over 4 hours to get there only to be "denied at the inn!" But the fact that she purposely unanswered my calls (for me to try and resolve the issue by informing her what the hotels.com people told me to tell them). This is not customer service whatsoever. Furthermore the way she was speaking in a relaxed dialog was not professional either. I have not stayed at this hotel, I attempted to, but at this point there is no reason to. And unfortunately I feel the hotel agent that I spoke with (only 2x out of the dozen urgent and worried-about-my-booking) would probably agree. I would really give no stars but had to give a star, reluctantly. read more

This place was great. Awesome bar at the hotel to watch sports. For the price I think this is a steal. Nice big room, recently remodeled. Love the old school motel feel where you park outside your room. Super friendly staff. We really enjoyed it a lot and will be coming back. Nice to have a fridge and microwave in your room, as well as a futon if you needed extra guests or kids. Loved this INN although it is off the beaten path. Super clean and i highly recommend staying on the 2nd floor for the high ceilings. We stayed two nights. Great little pool area, cute jacuzzi where we met other visitors from Canada and Peru and had great conversation. The only thing that i absolutely did not like was the shower. Water pressure was horrendous and felt like a watering can. I understand saving on water but that was over the top. Adorable balcony where you can relax in the mornings. Two older women at the front desk were hospitable but the younger one with the dark long hair needs to amp up the customer service. Cute and clean and overall good price. Sideways Inn - Nice update missed the mark here and there. My wife and I usually stay in Los Alamos at an AirBnB but due to some unforeseen events we ended up booking at the Sideways Inn. I've been coming up the the area to visit family for over 10 years and have seen the changes that have occurred since the movie "Sideways" came out in 2004. We were excited about experiencing the newly renovated Inn and bar, especially since we do enjoy craft cocktails, plus the price was right! So here we go and I'll break it down between a few sections. Room - Premium King (Expedia - Requested Courtyard View) We checked in and found out we were on the second floor and above the Sideways Lounge, sort of a perk. Room is large with a nice futon, microwave, small refrigerator, coffee maker, small tv, and storage. Tv is too small for scale of room and most of the channels didn't work or were glitchy at times. Bathroom has a nice modern feel although with no shower door at can be a bit too drafty. Being that I am 6'4" most shower heads are not tall enough for me to stand under, this one was! However water pressure was lacking to feel like you got a good shower. Bed and pillows were comfortable and nice. At night being above the Lounge meant you could hear the low end bass till they closed, plus the occasional person outside being loud (this did not bother us too much but beware). We would have preferred getting the room we requested, but it does state that there is no guarantee on room. Sideways Lounge - Perhaps this should be separate but oh well. This is a nice update from the old bar although you could tell the locals are not too thrilled about it. Drinks arr fine if you stick with some of the basics, i.e. Manhattan, Vodka Soda, Old Fashion, or other bar basics. I know they are trying and it's hard for this area but I sort of expected more from a place touting that it is a Craft Cocktail bar. Bartenders were nice and accommodating, just the drink program needs some tweaking and refinement. Breakfast - I would Pass. There are better breakfast offerings in town and just a sort drive away in Solvang, Buellton, and Los Alamos. The only time we did get the delivered breakfast we didn't get most of what we wanted as it seemed there was not enough, I get it, it happens. Just seems like it's lacking the continental breakfast part overall. To conclude, we did enjoy our stay, most of the staff was nice, but it was just missing some details. Next time we are up in the area we will consider staying here again. read more

My one and only complaint would be the need for blackout shades on the doors/windows. There are outdoor lights for the walkways that illuminated our room all night. The room and the property are nice. The girl"Diana" at the front desk gave me the worst experience I've had while traveling in years. Yesterday I asked to extend my stay an extra night but the nicer woman at the front said I have to make my change through hotels.com. I did that and hotels.com called the front to make sure I paid the right rate to keep my room. When I went into the lobby again the rude girl "Diana" said I can't keep the room because there was a slight price difference. Then she said I wasn't able to pay the difference because I booked through Expedia. Now my fiancé and I can't go to our event because we are kicked out of the room even though we paid and it's booked. Diana single handedly ruined this whole weekend. Her job is to help customers and travelers check in and have a nice experience(hospitality). She did not do that, in fact she did the opposite. Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. not worth it here 2 stars read more

Recently, my wife and I went back to Buellton and stayed at the Sideways Hotel. The place looks great and the new management was very friendly. We were invited to the Manager Reception on Thursday and had a great time meeting the staff, having wine and meeting new friends. Kelli, the bartender was great. I was impressed that she was alone and not only serving drinks but also making food. We stayed after the Manager Reception was over ( I recommend that you keep this open longer and especially on weekends, not only Thursday). We got to meet some regulars and other guests. Kelli was friendly and has great taste of music which I recommend letting her pick the playlist since she is working the lounge. The whole experience was great and we will be back soon. read more

Doesn't look like much when you walk in and goes downhill from there. They also play the room game. when yo check in, they give you the worst room in the place. See if you'll take it. Then if you complain, you get a marginally better room. The best rooms are saved for the later check-in, after all the marginal rooms have been given out. Total BS. Breakfast is a joke. I said I didn't see it, the receptionist said its in the questions and answers. When I make a reservation I'm not checking the whole website. Contacted the manager, and the issue was resolved . They offered a discount to the evacuees of the Santa Barbara mudslides. Lots of hotels were not offering any discount and some even raised the rates. Unfortunate we had to drive all the way to Buellton to find some compassionate hospitality, but happy that is still exists in some places. I liked the 1920's decor and everything was very new and clean. The staff was genuinely concerned about our home and situation. Wish it was under better circumstances but we did enjoy or brief stay. I am a truck driver and found this inn online. I have stayed at many hotels with my job. Most hotels/inns are all the same deal however this one really did put itself above and beyond to be unique and cater to the customer. Upon finding a spot for my truck we were greeted with the warmest welcome by Terri who could not have been more accommodating and pleasant to deal with. She was very careful and mindful of proper cleanliness due to the virus but beyond that you could tell she was the type of person to make sure you had everything she could possibly assist you with. The room was a decent rate at just over 90 for the night and the room itself was VERY clean, beds were comfortable. Also they even have a cool breakfast program that they deliver in the morning which I have never experienced. I would definitely recommend this place for any occasion.
