Siegel's is kind of dirty. The waitstaff do not care if you live or die. But...the soups and corned beef are delicious. It's a trade-off...yummy food and shady atmosphere. I'm almost sure there are weird business deals being made in the booth behind me and my knife is probably not clean. But, good corned beef. And soup! The pickles are made there (I'm pretty sure) and I taste them for 3 days...but they are good. If you require perfection in all ways, go further east. If you just want a good sammich...go to Seigel's. Stopped in today to enjoy a good hot bowl of Mushroom Barley and a salad wrap. Siegel's hasn't changed much with the new ownership. The server Isabel , a perky young lady was very attentive and brought my food out correctly . The soup was very hot and enjoyed the chicken salad which seemed to be extremely fresh. This is a good deli in the area. But it is so run down looking carpets are ripped and it just looks old. Needs a simple facelift. As for the food. The french dip au jus is disgusting. The Corned Beef sandwich tasted like it came from 1970's Esquire Deli in Detroit. It was better than delicious. Meat was not dry or stringy and it was piled HIGH. I haven't found an equal in Detroit but if you know of one please post so I can go there. We have never been disappointed with any meal or tray we have had at Siegel's. Edison is a great owner and has gone out of his way to keep us happy. We order a deli tray for 45 people every year for our Halloween party. The foods is always fresh and tasty. We go there at least once a week. read more

Wow one week and we were a bit disappointed, this time. Service was soooooooo slooooooooow! Granted they were busy and only had two people working the floor, but it was ridiculously slow. 15 minutes before someone came to take our order. Mushroom barley was incredibly bland. I couldn't taste any vegetable flavor from the carrots, onion, celery... Light on the salt . 3-4 bites and we put the bowls to the side. We didn't see our waitress again until she dropped off our sandwiches and was off to the next table. Never came back to check food, water...then the real waiting began... Tried to wave waitress down multiple times for check. They don't make eye contact! Finally we asked another server to get our check... Still waited... Waited.. Big fan here! Can't beat their 2 eggs, coffee, hashbrowns and meat for $3.99! I've never been here for lunch or dinner, so I can only comment on breakfast. I came here a few years ago, and although I don't recall the details I do remember not being particularly impressed. Having seen some of the reviews I thought I'd give it another shot for breakfast. Verdict: Maybe lunch is better. I got the greek omelette (tomato, onion, feta). It was overcooked, light on cheese, and the onions were burnt. Not caramelized, but mostly black. Also, it came with toast but no hash browns. $8.50 with OK coffee. Even if the food had been good the value is not. Update: Tried breakfast again. So I really wanted to like this place since it's so close to my house but, I was kind of overwhelmed by it. I will say that my experience is based on delivery (door dash-which is AMAZING) . I ordered matzo ball soup and a turkey sandwich. The matzo balls really lacked in flavor and the broth was super oily. The turkey sandwich was okay. I agree with Chris (see his review above). Tonight I ordered: potato knish, #9 sandwich (corned beef, turkey, Swiss), pastrami sandwich with coleslaw. Which cost $27. What I got was 1. A corned beef and turkey sandwich that the turkey smelled so bad, rancid and smelled like death that we had to throw the entire sandwich away in a bag out in the garage garbage can and spray the kitchen with air freshener. 2. The potato knish also smelled bad and inedible that we had to throw that away. 3. The "pastrami sandwich" actually turned out to be a fatty corned beef sandwich that was only half edible because it was all fat. I hope I don't get food poisoning. We were trying to be nice and contacted them twice to let them know not to serve the turkey so others don't get sick. My father also spoke with the Manager George who yelled at my father and made excuses "that the turkey was fresh and didn't smell and we were the first ones to complain" (yet Chris also had an issue with his order today) instead of trying to be Pleasant and accommodating and try and fix the problem, but only if we brought back to the store the bad sandwiches. My mother-in-law & her friend go here everyday & I can see why! We're in town & have joined them every day. Food is delicious & portions are large, the service is AMAZING. They all know the our ladies & Vera is the one who waits on them. She is usually 2 steps ahead of them with what they want or need which is a great comfort to us to know they are so well taken care of. It's a great deli & it's always packed. The actual waitress waddled over some time later, very abrasive attitude & not personable, the food order was messed up by the kitchen. Then the food itself was weak at best. The food is very good, but he service has been terrible every time I've been there. I usually have to get up and get menus for our table and get up to get our waitress' attention more than once during our meal. The waitress' are very slow at getting around to taking our order and delivering our food. We rarely see her in between. I only go there because of it's location and because some of my family members really like it. The food IS really good as long as you're not in a hurry or super-hungry when you arrive. Your best bet is to sit close to the kitchen so you can get a staff members attention if you need anything. The corned beef is really good and the salads are generous. Siegel's Deli is about a mile away from my home and how lucky I am that this is the case. Im a sucker for a good reuben on toasty sourdough and the reuben here is top notch. Its one of these deli's that give you SO much meat that you have to eat 2 inches of corned beef off the sandwich before you can actually take a bite. Excellent. The cheese blintzes are among the best I've ever had and the hard salami they sell is spectacular. They have a really large menu and you can get just about anything you could imagine but for me, its the reuben and a cheese blintz every time. read more

I normally do not fill out a review but I have to in this case. The food at this restaurant is very good. But the people in the place are incredibly rude. I have gone in several times since the ownership changed and the people completely ignore you until you speak up. Yesterday I went in and was the second person in line for the carryout (not really a specific line) but I was waiting for them to finish with the first person and then another person comes up and starts taking care of the couple behind me and taking their order. And then after she gets done with them walks away and completely ignores me and another person just smiles at me. Finally I got aggravated and made stink and left. I went over to Lulu's where they want you business and was immediately greeted and taken care of. Skip this place. I never write reviews, but, had to after my HORRIBLE recent experiences here. My wife had to walk out of the place a few months ago because no one acknowledged she even walked in the door. She then talked to a waitress who said "can't you see we are busy?" I decided to go there today just to get some matza ball soup to go. I went during lunch. It was sort of busy, but, nothing out of the ordinary (I worked in the food industry for years) I walked up to the counter and the three waitresses kept walking past me over and over. They didn't even look at me or say "i'll be with you shortly." Nothing. I waited a little more. I ended up leaving. I couldn't believe it. I've never been treated like that. Unfortunately, no matter if the food is good or not, no business that wants people paying for its food should have staff that can't even acknowledge a paying customer. read more

I enjoy going there for breakfast because it's reasonably priced. The waitresses work very hard and I believe they need more help behind the counter during lunch time. The food comes on time but the young guy behind the counter gets overwhelmed you kind of feel bad for him he should get paid more for his job since he works so much. In the 60s - 80s, most of the really good Delis in the Detroit area were generally in the area between 8 and 10 mile road in and around Oak Park however that is changing over the years. There are still some nice delis in this area, however, my wife and I discovered Siegel's Deli on 15 mile rd. in Commerce Township and I must admit it meets or exceeds the competition in all areas. Plenty of seating, plenty of choices, and quite accessable from most of the Northern suburbs. I have not had time to sample the whole menu which might take years however if you like true deli food you won't be disappointed. read more

They have a ridiculously large menu that covers hot and cold sandwiches, salads, soups, etc. The prices are reasonable and the quantity and quality of food is outstanding. The sandwiches are stacked so high, you can't possibly bite into it without taking some meat out first. The service can be a bit slow, and far from friendly and the restaurant itself is nothing to write home about, sort of a hole in the wall. We tried both the chicken sandwich and corned beef sandwiches. Both were very tasty, with a lot of meat in them and came with two types of pickles, one very tasty and the other, well, not so much. Soup to go costs more than when dining in and the top of the matzo ball soup quart I had was busted so it did not travel well. Luckily it was also pretty much shrink wrapped in saran wrap.. kept it from spilling but not fun to get off the container. Cabbage soup was good. Matzo ball soup was ok but a bit plain. For the 3 sandwiches and a pint plus a quart of soup and some pomegranate juice the bill came to just under $42.00. A bit pricey for what we got but the food was good so we will probably return.
