I'm following thru with the promise I made to the customer service manager yesterday to share my horrible experience with Sierra. My wife took out an auto loan with them adding me as a cosigner a while ago and we have had numerous problems with the automatic loan payments. I couldn't believe the amount of hassle my wife was having so when I received a call from their collections department yesterday I decided to fix it myself. What set this in motion was the rep told me on the phone that he had no idea where the payment money was supposed to originate from. I informed him that it was from well funded account at Sierra Central. Again he was unable to verify my account or why the payments were not being made on time, he just wanted my visa number. So my wife and I jumped in the car to talk with them face to face which is always the most effective way to do business. The teller we spoke to informed us that the April payment was missed and because the payment arrangements were made via teller she had NO access to that info and why the payment was not made. Her branch manager doesn't even have access to the auto payment info or the payment history. The net result was for the second time that day I was told by the people that hold our money that they had no idea what was happening with it and why the payments were not being made even though there was money in the account however the late fees were readily apparent. So we paid the loan off and we are closing all of our accounts including our children's accounts and moving them to Chase where with a few key strokes I can out everything that happens with my money and when I ask humans for help any of them can access all of my accounts and fix any issues. Sorry for the length of this review, I left out many details that only make Sierra look worse! The bottom line is don't bank with people who say, "I don't know", when you ask them what's going on with your money! read more

I have been with Sierra Central for over 25 years. I opened a personal loan with Sierra Central and started to notice not only was I being charged interest on the loan, which it states in my contract, but also an "add-on" fee at the end of each month. I went into the branch to ask why I was being charged this extra fee. They told me I had signed another contract for disability insurance. They used my digital signature. I never approved this extra contract and never received a copy of it. Just the original contract with the original interest. So I asked for them to remove the add-on fees because I never actually signed or approved of this extra fee. They apparently stopped any future fees, but not the fees from the past. they also told me that it was optional for me to accept the additional insurance. I never approved of this. It scares me that my digital signature was used. They have been very difficult to deal with, and I will be contacting NCUA regarding this matter. read more

Say you can pay on the app turns out you need to bank with them in order to make a payment on the app. Need to docusign to set up automatic payments. Can only make a principal payment in person according to the teller I spoke with. I miss capital one! I feel very lost and I seriously don't know how to make a payment right now besides going on on my lunch break. read more

ATMs are always out of order. They never answer the phone. They don't have an after hours number for lost or stolen cards. The website or app doesn't allow you to do basic things. The customer service is the worst. Waited on the phone over 30 minutes to verify Apple Pay. Zelle gets denied for no reason. The place is just really awful. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. I applied for an auto loan, sent them all of the information they needed, got everything approved. A few months later, I received a letter saying they need proof of insurance (strange because I provided that information in order to get approved). I sent it to the email that was on the letter, received another letter stating that I still need to send the proof of insurance. So I called them and after getting transferred many times and being provided fake phone numbers ( 866 238-8436) they said there was a lapse in my insurance and I was subjected to a fee (not true!). They said they would try to get in touch with GEICO directly, they were unsuccessful for some reason. So I called GEICO and they said no one has tried to contact them. They confirmed that there was no laps in my insurance coverage and sent me the information I needed right away. Long story long, they are very unprofessional and I wish I did not have to deal with them. Very scary trusting these people with my money. read more

I applied for a vehicle loan a few months ago and in the process of waiting for them to reply I was approved by another bank so I moved on and Sierra Central continue to call me about giving me a loan. I never called them back and I just got a letter in the mail that said they denied me. When I know, for a fact they were going to approve me because they kept calling me about the loan. I think it's pretty crappy that they would send me a denial letter for no reason when I know they were going to give me the loan crappy bank, and now that I'm looking at all the reviews I'm glad I never called them back. read more

Online banking access is seriously lacking. Way behind the technology curve. You can't even change your password online because their email confirmation system can only send emails to a few select domains such as hotmail or yahoo. Unless you set up an email account with hotmail or yahoo they can't send you an email. When I told the rep I did not want my banking information to be sent over a publicly vulnerable system like hotmail or yahoo, I was told that was my only option. So my password remains unchanged forever, it appears. Otherwise, this credit union has been acceptable, but a system that cannot handle the most basic security function of changing a password is woefully inadequate. If I didn't owe them money, I would close my account. Once I'm paid off, I will likely close the account unless they have improved by then. read more

Then they lie about doing it, when confronted with proff from your bank it was them they denie that they said it was not them. I would have chosen a different bank for my auto loan if I knew how hard it was just to make the payments. The systems they have are like from the 90's or something. Jump through hoops to see your account online, then jump through separate hoops to make the payments MAYBE. LOL I have had the car since December and still not able to make payments online. They can't do anything over the phone or online/chat, so you have to drive your nice new car over there just to pay for it. If you are shopping for a consumer loan, beware of Sierra Central and stay away! In January, my wife and I purchased a travel trailer from a dealer in Rocklin who helped us line up financing through the Sierra Central scammers. Although we weren't happy with the rather poor interest rate they offered us we went forward with them at the dealers recommendation and because they were local. Big mistake!!! When we purchased the trailer the dealer had me sign a form that said I would provide proof of insurance but the form was left blank on the line that specified how long we had to provide it so I figured there was a reasonable buffer period in place to allow us to secure the insurance they were asking for. Boy was I wrong. After the dealer delivered the trailer to our house there was a period of about 7 weeks when it sat in our driveway before being used. We did get full coverage insurance before our first trip in March and we provided that to Sierra Central think it would satisfy their requirements. Then we started getting letters saying to provide insurance for the dates between the purchase and the when our insurance began which we obviously couldn't do or they could buy Collateral Protection Insurance for over $700 to cover that timeframe (which was already in the past) and charge us for it. I called my insurance company and asked if we could buy back insurance to cover the previous dates and they said that no insurance company could. Disputing the threat of the addtional insurance fees I was tranferred to Sierra Central's asset recovery dept (depite having never missed a payment or had any lapses in our insurance since it was issued) and they were extremely rude and said that I had agreed to pay it and had no choice in the matter. I went back and reviewed my contract and the form was very ambiguous, was filled in incorrectly, and no where stated I had to have insurance from the issuance of the loan. If I did, they should never have allowed me to complete the purchase without showing proof of insurance first. Yesterday I called in to get my account balance to payoff the loan and they gave me the amount. Knowing it was my intention to pay the loan off, that amount jumped up today by $687.08. Inquiring about the discrepancy, they said that the insurance was purchased and I now had to pay it. So they didn't have the supplemental collateral protection insurance yesterday but today they did and now they are trying to stick me with the cost despite having no valid proof that I agreed to it. What a scam! Save yourself the hassle and costs and find a credit union that actually looks after the interests of their members rather than trying to defraud them. read more

Went to set up/sign an auto loan contract- which took TWO HOURS- because miss Cortez was incredibly "friendly" Well, not so friendly, because 1 1/2 hours into the appointment we realized Cortez had slyly slipped in a 1,400 dollar "extended warranty" we hadn't discussed & much less agreed to. Told her to remove it, to which she responded, "after the first month's payment, you can mail a signed letter saying you want it removed." Haha- No. We made her fix the entire contract on the spot. We're very disappointed, honestly. We had a lot of trust in Sierra- it's a credit union! But I guess we screwed by the one snake in the bunch! Make sure you steer clear of her! They have no record of receiving the letter which was sent certified. Idiots. Also they are trying to charge me $1200 for car insurence when I am already covered by state farm. They didn't receive the paperwork from them so they"sold" me a policy for two months at 600 a month. TF. They are so bad at everything. I can't believe how many problems I've had trying to get routine things done, like keeping a working login for online banking. (Apparently their "new security policy" that they boast on their website is not to make it hard even for the owners of the accounts access to them. Sigh.) This is the second time I come to this location and both have been at different times of the day and I'm waiting 10-15 min before someone can help me. It's so annoying especially when there are people working there who aren't helping anyone. Today I saw three people helping one person while there was two of us on line. Doesn't make any sense. I have had good Customer service from a Patricia who works in the assest and recovery dept when you call. She said that they could get two months put on to the end of my loan to help me get caught up with some bills However, soon afrer I spoke to her I became really sick. I spoke to someone else today and explained that I am out on temporary disability [key word-- TEMPORARY] due to a medical issue and asked if I could get two months relief with my car loan and she said no because I am now on temporary disability. You would think this is when they would want to help you but nope! I have been paying for over two years and they rather repo then work with me... Wow! I quit Sierra Central entirely after this one. I have a daughter with a disability. Once, she was in the hospital in Sacramento for 2 weeks. I was dashing back and forth from Grass Valley after work. My check wasn't on automatic deposit then. I didn't realize that I hadn't deposited it and paid all my bills. I ended up with $700- of overdraft fees and they wouldn't erase any. I made an overdraft mistake twice with BofA and they erased half of them. But the worst was that after the cost of all the overdrafts, I had no money left in my accounts and more checks were coming in! My daughter had a SSDI check and we went in to deposit it to cover me. Even though she was right there with me, they wouldn't accept a 3rd part check! A government check as well! I had to go to a check-cashing place and be charged and then come back to deposit the money. That was the end for me. read more

Worst bank I've ever been a member of! No one to answer calls during the weekend, in order to start your online banking you have to CALL! You can't even call to check your balance unless you have every single thing from your account # to blood type.Then because I decided to close my account because I didn't feel my money was safe with them they charge me 5 dollars for a cashiers check to close it, when I left Bank of America they didn't charge me anything for the check and tried to get me to stay. Did anyone at the sierra bank do that NO they don't care. This is literally the worst bank I've ever had the misfortune of working with in my life. When I started with them, I had something like a 750-780 credit score, and they persuaded me to take every loan I could. As I recall, this included a personal loan, a line of credit, and a car loan...initially, I was very pleasantly surprised at how high of loan limits they granted me...for instance, they loaned something like 125% of my car's value, which came out to be around $22,000...then with the other 2 loans they signed me up for, the grand total was something around $45,000 or more. At that time, I had a real estate investment company that made at least $200,000 per year, so this was no big deal...but shortly after, I moved to Sacramento to pursue a career as a real estate agent. When I first moved to Sacramento, I had no idea just how hard getting into this industry and becoming successful at it would be. I had purchased a duplex, which I was planning to turn into an Airbnb...but at the same time, I was waiting on a settlement from an "arbitration" in which I was defrauded by a Southern California real estate agent over a 16 unit apartment complex...although I won the case, the arbitrator did not award attorneys fees...she hated my attorney...so, I basically lost at least $160,000. On top of this, the first guy I hired to do the construction on my duplex, abandoned the project, leaving me with a half-gutted duplex I could not rent to anyone. At this point, I was so broke that I could hardly afford to fill my gas tank, in order to meet with clients to try to sell some homes, and pull out of debt...I had something like 20 credit cards, 10 utility accounts, and I gigantic mortgage I was 2 months behind on. I was literally living off of rice and beans, and facing bankruptcy. Although I had something like 40 bills to pay (most of them seriously delinquent), Sierra Central Credit Union was "The Only" one who actually sued me. Their collection department is as predatory as it gets. When I was finally in a position to sell my home, I contacted their collection department, but refused to cooperate with me directly, and instead, forced me to call their attorneys. I contacted their attorneys and Sierra Central agreed to a settlement agreement with me, where I would pay something like $13,000 and then the remainder through time over payments...but at the last minute, they broke their agreement, went around my back, and took over $60,000 from the sale of my home through escrow. They also deceived me, and ran "Hard Pulls" on my credit without my express authorization, thus braking multiple laws. They violated multiple laws of the FDCPA and FCRA, and I will be suing them. This is a VERY VERY scandalous, shady, and downright predatory company. I would not recommend Sierra Central to my worst enemy. There are a lot of other financial institutions to choose from, and this would be the last one I would recommend to anyone. read more

I have been banking with this company a long time. Including a car loan credit card saving and checking account in debt to them andever a late payment or overdraft. I have always had a great experience until recently. Lots of scam security breach problems for one and very unhelpful representatives regarding this matter. Finally there is one man I have had the the pleasure of speaking to that was very helpful he explained in detail the process unlike the rep we had spoke to before . We also lost points earned on our credit card because they cancelled our card and reissued due to a system breach within the company. Next issue their online and phone banking was down so we had no way to check our account without going to the location 30 miles from our house for at least 4 days and it was almost impossible to get anyone on the phone not to mention it states on their website the phine services open at 830am when I called at 9am they were closed. Eventually system is back up my husband has a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy a classic car he has been searching for he goes to this location to pull out the cash and guess what sorry our system is down the most we can give to you is $100 and no cashier checks and there is a $500 limit at the atm. Thankfully we decided to try for a money order at Walmart and were successful. My husband was again very unhappy with the customer service that day the tell had an attitude about it. The rep I spoke to today was awful the worst experience yet and before I even told her my issue she had an attitude. If I wrote about my experience today I would be here all day. Just beware. I used to recommend Sierra central and brag to friends and family. I will be switching over to a new credit union this weekend. I am not normally the type to complain and give second chance but today was unacceptable. The way I was treated by this rep. was uncalled for. I would have given them a 0 if it would let me. I take off from work to set my dad up with an account because they're not open Saturday anymore. First I was told to come back another day, I told them no I'll go to another bank then. So they have me wait for the girl on break to come back which was fine. Then she gets all of our information because I'm going to be on his account since he is 91 years old. Then they told us because he has an out of state drivers license he needed a PG&E bill or another bill with his new address on it. I told them he just moved her about 2 weeks ago so of course he doesn't have a bill yet. So then we're told he can't open an account because they need to have that to verify his address. I told them okay I'll just go some place else tomorrow because there are banks that are open on Saturdays. So if your from out of state just moving here you need to wait a month to open an account. I don't know how you're going to pay your bills or buy groceries but that's okay. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!! I'm about ready to take out my account with them since I can't access it to pout my paycheck in since I work an hour away. But then again the great customer service that they had told me just find a bank close to where I work. I informed those idiots I get an half an hour for lunch it's more than a half an hour from where I work and I work 5 days a week 8 hour shifts. ONCE AGAIN GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!
