Amazing, amazing wine tasting experience. Silenus, the tutor of Dionysus; their trademark: the Greek thursis on the bottle label. They rent out their facility for small producers to bottle their own wine here, which is a great biz idea. 2 for 1 given to us, and took advantage, hoping they would accommodate without a rez for their vintner flight. $15/pp, not credited toward wine purchase, as we did buy. Heady tasting room. Classy, spacious, staid and sophisticated touches everywhere. Our pourer: Jody....a fount of true enological wealth. So appreciated her extraordinary skills and understanding! She made our visit! Having been working for 30 yrs in the biz, a pure pleasure to listen to her instruct on wines and terroir, various takes and tweaks on reds and whites. Crisp and beautiful Rose from Silenus, which is a cooperative for other small boutique owners. We bought a bottle and fully enjoy it during these warm days. Its bouquet is full and very bursting sweet. Neat things tried: Poe wines. Grapes from Anderson Valley, boutique winemaker made a part Merlot and part Syrah blend. Very interesting. A small and inviting tasting room filled with a few select local artisan wineries on a rotating basis makes for an intimate and satisfying wine tasting experience. Erika behind the counter provided a cohereant and engaging narrative on the various wineries represented. Being better versed on Dry Creek than Napa, she helped me connect the dots with local parallels and variations. She was non plussed by my lack of infatuation with "big cabs" which I guess is code for overpriced Opus One $129 a bottle wanna bes. Lots of different reds from Italian varietals to cuvees. I'm not a big fan of whites but so I'm not a good judge of their range in that area. She even had some ideas for roses for summer barbecues. While off the beaten path on a road parallel to Route 29, its pretty much a straight shot down from Domaine Chandon. read more

Silenus is an interesting winery because it is actually 11 wineries all under one roof. The wineries are small and can't afford all costs on their own so they all share equipment. My bf and I just mentioned Yelp and got their 2 tasting for $15 deal! It was pretty awesome to be able to try out different wineries but staying in one place. You can taste up to 6 wines each but we shared each tasting of wine so we actually got to taste 12! They have a good selection of red and white wine but not too many dessert wines, if any. read more

Very disappointed with our visit. Our first time we arrive with my husband decided to do two separate tastings, one each. After the first glass of the tasting my stomach didn't feel right so I cancel my tasting and asked the server just to take one glass out from my husbands further tasting and he seemed to totally understand and not worry he will take care of it. After the tasting my husband decided to purchase 3 bottles of wine. At the end of the tasting we got the bill and they have charged us for 2 full tasting and 3 bottles.. note, the server said will remove one tasting since I didn't try anything and secondly, if you purchase bottles with certain price tags which we did they remove the tasting fee. Meaning we shouldn't have paid for any tasting and just those three bottles!! Completely got scammed and disrespected by staff, after pretending to be so nice and not worry about anything they "got us". Paid ridiculous money for not good time and ok service.... read more

We brought our 1 year old here because there are few places that's are genuinely kid friendly in Napa. Honestly, some of the best service and best wine we've had. We're locals, so we've done all the touristy stuff. But the ambiance and service were exceptional. Alyssa, was AWESOME. She was patient with us, as our one year old was a little fussy at times. But she had great pours and her information about the wine was fun, entertaining and educational. Will 10000000% be coming back with family. The only complaint I have is that there wasn't a baby changing station in either bathroom, but you can definitely make do with the counter space with a small baby! read more

I came here with reservations on a Sunday afternoon, with a party of 18. Many from our group were new to wine tasting, so the staff was sensitive to that while explaining each of the wines. This winery is a hidden gem. I had a friend visiting from Japan and specifically looked for a winery with a Japanese speaking person who could conduct the tasting. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and I was asked if we had extra time because the President who lived in Japan was at the winery and wanted to give us a personal tour of the vineyard and barrel room. Scott was EXCELLENT! He went above and beyond showing us around and explaining all about the terrain, blending, barrels, clones, I could go on and on,it was very interesting. And he even treated us with tastings directly from the barrels. Such a treat and so much more than I had expected. When we were done we sat by the indoor fireplace and Hiro gave us the scheduled tasting. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and made the experience a lot of fun. The wines were delicious and the whole vibe of the winery is welcoming and unpretentious. Definitely add this winery to your list. read more

Fabulous service. It's nice to be able to taste from so many small labels. Went w/ my partner and we both tasted -- one from the regular tasting menu and one from the reserve menu, so we had the opportunity to taste from so many different labels & varietals. We asked him if we could sit down in the garden area and he said "Sure, but only if you bring your wine glasses back up to the tasting room when you're ready for the next pour." Seriously? I know things are trickier because of the covid regulations but we were not feeling the love. If you're going to act annoyed that I'm at your winery, you probably shouldn't be working in hospitality. Went back to Silenus over the weekend and it was just as enjoyable as before. This time, Scott was our fabulous "tour guide" through their current offerings. Highlights included: + Cielo Woodstock "Deep Purple" - always a crowd pleaser + Silenus Cabernet Sauvignon (and I'm not a Cab lover) + Ideology "Blondie Gone Wild" Chardonnay + Cielo Woodstock "Honey Pie" + Ideology "Proprietary Blend" Just to name a few! We got to talking and ended up staying longer than expected. But of all the tasting rooms in Napa, this is my favorite. Could probably park a cot in the back room and stay for the weekend. But they're not a B&B so eventually we had to move on. Not before I sent a bottle to Dad in IL, though. I'm sure he'll enjoy! read more

My parents, boyfriend, and I had the best experience here. We were lucky enough to be able to make a same day appointment even though it was the Saturday of a three day weekend. Once we arrived, we were surprised to see that they were extremely prepared for our arrival. Our tastings had been set up already next to a roaring fire. There were no other visitors at the time so we had to be sommelier entirely to ourselves. He was really informative and patient with us as we tried all the wines. Silenus is unique in that they have multiple wine makers come and use their equipment and are featured at their winery. So we were able to try wines from different people with different winemaking styles. Overall this was our favorite stop of the whole day, because our host really took the time to talk to us and make sure we were learning and enjoying our time there. I was visiting Napa with my girlfriend for our 1 year anniversary and she said we MUST go wine tasting. I got on Yelp! and found a deal for this place. wine-tasting for 2 for $15! When we got to the place we were greeted warmly by Jim and he asked if we had called in to put our names down (which I did). He was already helping another group so we had the chance to meet our wine-tasting guide named Jody! Jody is freaking legit. My gf and I are wine tasting noobs and Jody did not talk to us in a condescending way AT ALL. She was very enthusiastic and helpful while we decided what wines we wanted to taste As she went down the list of wines she gave us colorful and vivid descriptions of what the wine would taste like, this made me parched for alky just listening to her. In the end, we drank about 10 different kinds of wine AND got to go into the cellar and taste wine straight from the barrels! This was an awesome experience and I ended up leaving with 3 bottles! Best wine education I've ever gotten! Being relatively new to the world of wine, I usually don't ask the pourer any questions during the tasting to avoid giving myself away as a wine-newbie. It makes me feel like ashamed! But here at Silenus, I didn't have to feel that way at all! Our pourer, Jim, was happy to educate me all about wine. When I described the taste of a wine as "it tasted like things, not fruit," he validated my way of explaning things. Jim is great for letting newbies warm up to the wine experience, without feeling stupid or intimidated. He even let us taste a few wine grapes =) Pros: + It's a wine boutique so there is only a limited amount they have for each wine. The producers are into wine making, not money making. + Many affordable wines. Which means to me, many tasty bottles that are under $35. + Their selection changes often, so wine tasting there will always be different. + They are cool about you sharing a taste. Generous pours! + Let us try things that were not on the tasting list. + Dark chocolate available with your red tasting! Cons: - By appointment only, but I had no problem coming in 30 minutes after I called. - $15 tasting fee for 6 whites and $25 for 6 reds. Really could not say enough great things about this tasting room. It was actually my favorite one of the 4 we tried. It's small and REQUIRES A RESERVATION! Scott was our tasting room attendant. We arrived a few minutes early so we sat around the fire in large comfy chairs in the corner until our table was set up outside. It was a beautiful 70 degree day. They had large umbrellas and tables on the patio. Below us people were eating lunch and playing botchi ball. The deal is 15 dollars for 6 tastings. I recently visited the tasting room & was told that the tasting room was selected by The Chronicle as one of the best in Napa Valley. First, the positives very nice tasting room, the facilities are clean, and here is a bocce court & picnic area available. The men running the tasting room are also great & very knowledgeable about wine. This place is good for people who are new to wine or who want to experience a lot of different types of wines because there are several small wineries that are represented there. The downside..we didn't find a single wine we liked. This place is not for people who have a developed palate or who have specific tastes. Appointments are required. read more

Love love love. Here's the low down on why: 1. Most wineries have a handful of wines that are pretty good, one awesome wine and the rest are meh. At this place, it wasn't a question of which ones were good, but rather how to decide which ones to purchase. I actually really liked every single one and there were a handful of "wows" in there. I seriously considered joining their club and I NEVER considered it at any of the other places. 2. Jody, our server extraordinaire, made me fall in love with wine. I mean, I liked it before, but that was really just because it tasted good and made me loopy. As I listened to her passionately explain the science behind the wine, I distinctly remember looking at one of my favorite bottles and thinking "herein starts my love affair." Seriously, I used to make fun of people who described wine as "blackberries mixed with cherries mixed with lavender and a hint of butter". What? The thing is, Jody did it too...but I didn't feel like making fun of her because she just....I don't know, it's hard to explain. Just go. 3. They do chocolate pairings!!! 4. I like the idea of supporting small growers that don't have much behind them except a plot of land and a lot of passion. 5. The atmosphere is airy and clean and modern but not pretentious in any way. 6. We could actually afford to purchase a few of our favorite bottles and not wince or have to justify it ("we're saving on shipping!" "it's a special occasion!" blah blah blah) The only thing that didn't really jive with me was their background music taste (it was this funky mix of New Wave and other stuff that didn't fit with the rest of environment) which was at times distracting but I'm not gonna downgrade 'em for it because....well, everything else trumps it and downgrading a whole star for the music? My in laws, husband and I all LOVED our tasting here! Even though this place is by reservation it was incredibly easy calling in and making a reservation same day. We were also lucky enough to get Scott as our attendant. Over 1 hour we were served 6 *very* generous tasting pours accompanied by hilarious repertoire. The discussion ranged from a vintage bottle's association with orgies to the origins of pinot gris coming straight from a unicorn. Very personable without any of that infamous Napa pretention. Just a wide selection of wines, good conversation, and great hospitality. Also,with the b1g1, the tasting is very affordable at $15 for two, and allows you to try a good variety of tasty wines available for purchase. As a collection of 11 wineries, the far wall was fully loaded with different wines on display for purchase. Would definitely come back to taste and buy more! read more

This place is incredible. Many small batch, local wines that you cannot find anywhere else! We were treated so well and loved it so much we joined the wine club to have these wines shipped to us in LA a few times a year. The tasting cost is a little higher than at a owned and operated vineyard, but it's worth it! My girlfriend and I had a fantastic experience at Silenus, as this winery was the highlight of our Napa Valley trip! Their tasting room is tasteful and comfy, and our experience with Flavio was a blast. With out 2 for 1 tasting coupon, and he walked us through 6 wines, with a few extra thrown in as well. :) He was very warm and fun to chat with throughout. We were doing Napa on a budget and this place was the best deal by far! If you buy 2 wines, they waive the tasting fee, so we chose a tasty Sauvignon Blanc ($22) and crispy, not overly sweet Rose ($18). This combined with our previous coupon was awesome! Afterwards we enjoyed our Sauvignon on their patio with some baguette, brie and salami that we brought. Overall, we had a great time and highly recommend Silenus! read more

This was one of the best stops on our wine tour. It turns out our driver was actual a member here, and I can see why. Its a very nice set up inside, but the wine and the server were the highlights here. First, our server, who's name I had gotten, was extremely knowledgeable, and was happy to give us a wine 101 class (and without any attitude- he genuinely was happy to share his knowledge.) The wine tasting price was quite reasonable, and I went with the tasting of the reds. Some of them were quite good, but the dessert wine, called Flora from the Matthiasson family, was simply excellent. A few things to note about Silenus: 1. This is not an ordinary winery. It is a custom crush facility where individual winemakers, who may not want to own their own winery facility and equipment, can come and make their wines. So in the tasting room, there are selections from many wineries made by many winemakers. 2. They are by appointment only, so don't drop in unannounced, although I'm pretty sure they will try to accommodate you if they have room. 3. The staff is very nice, and they are all very knowledgeable about wines, the wine making process, and the winemakers and their styles. It's a very nice tasting room. Ample bar space, cool displays of all the wines made by the various winemakers, and they provide a tasting sheet that you can scribble notes on. Scott, the tasting room manager, helped us. He was so nice, patient, great sense of humor, and really knew what he was talking about when it came to the wines. The tasting price is at a great price point of only $15, which is really cheap considering other Napa wineries. The wines themselves vary in quality and price. If I remember correctly, the cheapest wine on the menu was about $16 and the most expensive was about $70. Some of the wines I enjoyed very much, others I did not enjoy. But really everyone has their individual palate, so who's to say what's good and what isn't? Overall, great place to visit. Nice staff, good wines, good price, good information. I love the opportunity for variety, and love trying the less-known wines. Silenus is an opportunities for small-time winemakers to display their talent, and the list is quite diverse. One very memorable taste was from a Japanese vintner who wanted to create a red that could go with Japanese food. No small feat as wagyu aside, his lighter, more delicate cuisine is often drown by a stronger, bolder beverage. His creation is light, almost like a lovechild of red wine and sake inspiration.
