I just returned home after a few months, or you would have received this note sooner. Please share this with each worker who was at my house. Due to me being unexpectedly in the hospital during the reconstruction of my deck, I was not at home. I was unable to remove any of my items - my potted plants, statues, picnic table and benches, water fountain, and flag stand. Your workers must have taken before-pictures of the items' locations because they took great care and returned everything to it's original place. They even drilled a tiny hole in a plank for the fountain cord near the electrical outlet just as my late husband did many years ago. And they nailed my flag stand in place! I have 2 cement doves from my parents' deck that are sentimental to me. They too are situated back in their same spot on the railing. It's rare to find a company that actually does what they say they are going to do. But it's extremely rare to find one that goes above and beyond. You did that! You guys did that! Thank you so much for such excellent work and the great care you showed to my property. My new deck is beautiful and my stairs are safe to use once again. The only problem is now my picnic table and benches look so old! I'm sure your guys noticed that when they put it back on the deck! Can you send them back out to build me one? What? Pay attention to the reviews. I could write a detailed negative review of my own experience, but I'm guessing neither you nor I have the time. Based on my experience, the hands-on workers might be pretty good - I don't have the expertise to evaluate their work accurately. But their schedulers and one of their customer-facing reps leave **so much** to be desired. My recommendation really is to give another business a try! ....... I have downgraded my review to 1 star. The only notice I received from SV Builders Group was that they *might* be doing work on my unit from July 10-17 -- there was no communication after. It is before 9am on July 24, and with no notice, there are multiple workers on the enclosed patio outside my bedroom, finishing work that was left undone earlier this month. How do I put this -- of course the work is noisy, but before 9 am is when many people shower? Yes, there are workers able to see into my room while I'm in a towel, not having had ANY notice they might be there. TERRIBLE company, 100% avoid. read more

My dad had them drop by to inspect the balcony of his house and provide an estimate. In Asian household, it's filthy and disrespectful for anyone to enter the house with their shoes inside. If you work in the Silicon Valley area, you should KNOW that- like it shouldn't be any surprise if someone asks you to do that. So my dad politely made that request, and the contractor just IGNORED him and just went up the stairs. Yo, what the eff? Just because my dad speaks with an accent doesn't mean he should treated lesser than. This company is currently painting my complex and has performed the worst paint work that I have ever seen. They removed some rotten trim but left majority there. They claim that it was treated but all i saw them do was caulk everything . How are you going to just caulk a 6"x16" end of a beam? Ridiculous. Missing caulk at majority of joints pribably because the morons forget caulk shrinks unless you are using gd products. Paint drops everywhere and general poor quality work. I've lived near a building where these folks have been working for the past few years, and I've tried to communicate my frustrations to them over that time. They have left construction debris in my yard (including broken glass), laid ladders down on my landscaping, dropped debris and hit my house and rain barrel, and sprayed paint on my shingles...and that is just what I can think of off the top of my head. Not once have they EVER communicated to anyone in the neighborhood what they are doing and how long it will take. An oh yah, check out the picture I posted of the three different colors of paint on the side of the building they recently worked on. I tried calling them this morning and just got a message repeating, over and over: "...are you still there? ...are you still there." Update 5/7: apparently Yelp didn't like the photo I posted and took it down, saying it wasn't representative of the work this company does. I beg to differ. read more

We were so excited at our HOA to get letters taped to our garage's saying 'trim replacement' and 'garage door replacement' back on May 31st. These notices were to let us know that we were a week away from construction starting and to move stuff away from the front of our garage's, or move cars out. 3 days later, 6/2, we got 72 hour notices that construction was about to start. On 6/5 the garage next to mine got trim replaced, badly and uneven. I received a call from SVBG in mid June asking me to call back and set up an appointment to have my garage measured for a new door. I called back twice and left messages each time only to never receive a response. Almost 2 months later they've just packed up their scrap wood and never done the work they were hired by our HOA to do. Now the painters have come through and painted rotting doors. Judging by the little bit of work they did here I'm certain it wouldn't have been a great job, but it would've been better than months of stringing us along for nothing! We are assembling signatures to encourage our HOA to take these scumbags to court and get our money back. Avoid this business!!! read more

SVBG's work is unprofessional and shotty at best. I would never recommend their work. They were hired to complete some basic dry rot repair. Not only did they use sub-standard, untreated wood/supplies to complete the repairs, but the work was unprofessional, and they left all their trash, supplies and debris behind for me to deal with, endangering the neighborhood kids who play in the area. On top of that, the estimate was $6000 for VERY basic work that I could have done myself for $300 if I had the foresight of what I was going to be dealing with. Beyond disappointed with this group. My water heater leaked and damaged the subfloor in my guest bathroom. At the same time, I was dealing with a unrelated leak in my master bathroom. I hired Silicon Valley Builders to repair the damage and remodel both bathrooms at the same time. I had them install new vanities, new flooring, a glass tiled shower, new light fixtures, etc. I purchased all the materials after consulting with the owner and was very pleased with the communication and the quality of work. The supervisor checked in with me regularly during the entire project (it took two full weeks) and the workers were friendly and cleaned up as best as possible at the end of the day so the work area was clean/safe when my kids came home. I'd recommend Silicon Valley Builders to friends and family and will hire them for future home renovation projects, although I'm hoping I don't have to deal with any more water damage! read more

The project lasted about a day & a half, & the workers exceeded my expectations. They were prompt, very professional, very meticulous about their work, & cleaned up thoroughly after completion. I expected the end result to be good, but honestly, it was great! I did not have an exact paint color for my house, & they were able to match the color to where it was an exact match & blended in together perfectly. The roof on my house recently had a leak around the chimney which resulted in water damage to the exterior stucco and interior damage to the lathe and plaster ceiling. I solicited multiple quotes from roofers, one of which ranged as high as $5,000+ for the repair work. Chris, who is one of the principal owners of Silicon Valley Builders Group, offered to have his team bid on the job. From start to finish the communications with the project manager were timely and complete. The estimate itself was thorough, competitive, and far more polished than any of the other quotes I had received. I happily accepted their bid and we scheduled a start date. I have high praise for the crew that came to do the work--they were prompt, professional, and pristine in their clean up. Below is the final email that I sent to SVBG. It was a hideous experience and I am just grateful that I got out of this contract with a refund. ******************************* Thank you very much for the refund for my cancelled contract #14758 with Silicon Valley Builders Group (SVBG).  I feel that I need to explain my frustrations in dealing with your company.    It has been a long five months working with SVBG and I am currently stuck with a house full of boxes (that I was told by SVBG to purchase) and starting all over with a new contractor.  I realize that construction runs into difficulties and road blocks however, in this case, I never changed even one small aspect of this project in all that time.  It has been the same exact project from day one.  Why, after five months, did SVBG suddenly decide that they were not the right company for this job is anyone's guess.      On August 12th, 2016, SVBG provided a proposal/bid on my bathroom renovations.  For almost two months, Ian and I went back and forth about the materials.  There seemed to be confusion about who would purchase these items.  From my perspective, it seemed that SVBG thought that it was best for them to purchase materials but only if it was with one vendor.  It never mattered to me who purchased the materials but I knew what I wanted and it was with multiple vendors.  This was very confusing for me.  Did SVBG think that they would choose materials for me?  Or restrict me to one vendor?  I knew exactly what I wanted and this seemed somehow unorthodox to SVBG.     The permitting situation was a mess.  On Oct 28th , I met with Lydia at my home about the permitting process.  She never brought up the option of SVBG pulling permits; she told me (and wrote down) what I should do to pull permits with the city of Mountain View.  Only after my first visit to the permitting office was I informed about the liability if I, the homeowner, pulled the permits.  Then, when I asked SVBG to pull the permits, I was informed by Lydia that this would cost an additional $1000-$2000 for architectural drawings.  I decided to work myself with the permitting office and found this not to be true.  This whole drama took over a month but I learned that the best scenario was for me to complete the permitting paperwork with the city and then the contractor would pull the permits.  No one from SVBG gave me any guidance about these options.  On Oct 28th, I paid a $1700 down payment on the work and signed the contract for the work.     On Nov 10th, I received my first email from Bryan Leon who was to be my project manager.  At this point, I was hopeful that we could move forward.  On Nov 15th, Bryan sent a list of materials that I should buy. I started buying materials which are still stacked up in my house.  My experience with Bryan was that I could not reach him when I had questions.  I had to ask for a phone number to reach him, he did not offer it.  Aside from the initial contact, Bryan never initiated contact with me.   It was a repeated scenario for me to call/text Bryan multiple times before I heard back from him.   I asked for a revised proposal that accounted for the fact that I was buying materials and he never provided me with one.   One of the more problematic elements of this project seemed to be a custom cabinet.  It was a called a "custom cabinet" in the original bid dated August 12th so I am unclear why there would be confusion about this.  I sent a photo of this cabinet to Ian in August and then again, the same photo, to Bryan in December.  My request never altered.  I repeatedly asked Bryan whether we should be discussing the details of this cabinet and he did not think that this was a custom piece.  This all came to a head when on Jan 5th, I told him that I needed specific information about this cabinet; if he thought that this was not "custom", then he ought to be able to provide me with information/specs about what he intended to purchase.  On Jan 6th, he provided only a photo of the exterior of a cabinet with no information about its interior.   On January 9th, 2017, SVBG rescinded my contract suggesting that I "seek a Designer and Contractor who can better suit the project's requirements."  It is appallingly unprofessional to suggest that, after FIVE months, someone else would better suit this project's requirements when NOT ONE detail about this project had changed in all that time.  There is no reason that this conclusion should take FIVE months to be reached with nothing changed about this project.  I made no additional requests.  There was nothing new discovered on site.  As best as I can tell, SVBG just got tired of dealing with me, even though my requests were completely consistent with my original plan.    SVBG abandoned this project and I now have a house full of building materials that SVBG told me to purchase.  Frankly, I'm disgusted at how I've been treated and how long I have been strung along. read more

My backyard is odd shape (not a typical square or rectangular shape) so they totally custom-made the arbor perfectly fit to the shape of my backyard. It is so beautiful! Some of my neighbors also have arbors in their backyard but mine looks the BEST! Everyone of this company is very nice, polite and professional! I already referred them to my best friend. Silicon Valley Builders Group has been working on retrofitting the stairs in my complex. In the many construction projects I have been involved in o ver the past 28 years this is the worst. It here is no craftsmanship, the work is poor at best. One set of stairs fell apart just after being finished. There is no one on site who can communicate about the job. The supervisor is non existent. The casual workers they have do not even know how to use a level! After 4redos o f the same staircase, they still are not correct. The workers are messy, dirty, and would appear to not have any experience. If you are consideri ng using this contractor, BEWARE! They are late, and over budget with all kinds of excuses. It is unfortunate I cannot give less than one star. read more

I live in an apartment building. My property manager has hired them for two projects so far. The first one, a balcony rebuilding about a year ago, took several months and was actually okay. It did run behind schedule, but I'm not sure whose fault that was. The property manager blamed city inspectors finding unforeseen problems. Nonetheless, this does not make up for their deadbeat, irresponsible behavior on the ongoing project. In mid-November, they put up signs saying that they would be rebuilding some of the concrete and would finish by Thanksgiving (a week and a half). They promptly tore out a bunch of concrete stairways and walkways, covered up the holes with plywood, and disappeared. It's now February (about 12 weeks, folks), and they're still not done. They did finish the majority of the project, but not the part closest to my apartment. In the whole past month, they've only shown up a couple of days. For a long time, they had left a wheelbarrow and some tools on our (admittedly unattractive) landscaping. I don't know what's worse: the dirty wheelbarrow or the fact that it's now gone. I'm not sure if they're coming back or not. read more

Their worker did an amazing job of thinking out the best way to tackle this complicated task. He took the time to mock up sample pieces for my approval, before he built the final product. Can't give them zero starts that why is one. Stay away from these yo-yo's. They set the days for resurfacing our balcony (HOA) and didn't show up. No notice, nothing. Then resurfaced ones, the paint peeled off. Then painted again and same story - paint peeled off. The third time they put some epoxy and made a total mess. Everything was in epoxy stains even the ceiling. These idiots managed to damage our stuff (expensive shoes) with the epoxy inside our storage rooms. What business they had there? In the same week they damaged our balcony structure on different project. We are in our 20 days dealing with simple resurfacing. Just be aware and stay away from them! read more

The people below are upset because they live at an HOA and at the end of the day the association calls the shots when it comes to which repairs to make. I own a home on the peninsula and had a fantastic experience with Silicon Valley Builders. The owners, Frank, Chris, and Sergio are all honest and hard working. My fence was built with the highest quality, they were always punctual for meetings, delivered the project on time and on budget, and were patient with any change orders that I requested. I worked with this construction group closely on a year-long project for a condominium complex. Much of the work involved demolishing and rebuilding second and third floor balconies, which required collaboration with roofers, painters. carpenters & others. This company can supply all the necessary expertise to complete a job including downspout work and more delicate finish work. The crew was always courteous and helpful, and the foreman and manager always displayed a wide knowledge of construction skills and patience willing to redo something without complaint when work didn't match our expectations. The quality of work was very good with attention to detail. All the work was explained in terms that we could all understand.
