Here's our story: My wife and I bought a house in Q4 2019. The house itself seemed turnkey ready, but both the front and back yards needed major work. The previous owners put a pretty good mask on them during the selling process... I'd guess that they hired someone for yard clean-up, then simply poured tanbark on top of weeds (without properly removing them). During the purchasing process, we learned that the irrigation system was original 1955 galvanized steel and needed to be replaced. The end result was: our new house looked great from the inside... but the yards turned into neighborhood blights after about 3-4 months. We needed help. After blowing our nest egg on a down payment, we saved for another year to be able to afford actual landscape/hardscape. We weren't sure where to begin and engaged multiple vendors. Pearman Landscape was among them. From our first meeting, Robert Pearman behaved more like a trusted confidant than a vendor. We had never purchased hardscape services before... and it definitely showed. Rather than lead us around by our nose, like the greenhorns we obviously were, he described the entire process like an impartial 3rd party. Multiple times, he gave us information while acknowledging "whether you go with me or somebody else." Robert immediately sent over his designer, Kristin Bailey. I had read the Yelp reviews from Jody and Bob and immediately got worried, as they both claimed she was unresponsive. Luckily, I had a totally different experience. Kristin was prompt, she was polite, she was helpful, and I ended up chatting with her for about 45-minutes after we walked through my yard. I found her to be an absolute treat and I can't imagine anyone having a bad experience with her. She was wonderful every step of the way. Listened to what we needed, asked us great follow-up questions, made sure she was including plants and trees that we wanted in our design... and finished our plan in less than 2-weeks. It was very reasonably priced and we fell in love with the plan immediately after viewing it. I can't speak highly enough about Kristin. Based on our positive experience, we decided to move forward with Pearman Landscape. Not only will they redo our hardscape/landscape/irrigation, but I intend to retain them for garden maintenance after the project is completed. I'll provide updates and pictures as the process unfolds, but suffice to say: we're having a totally positive experience so far and I wanted to leave a 5-star review for any potential clients who might be considering Pearman. My family reached out to 15 different landscape companies around the SJ/South Bay area and Pearman stands head-and-shoulders above the other 14 suitors, both in terms of promptness, responsiveness, helpfulness, and pricing. Its been a couple months since my 1st post on Quality Green - Couldn't figure out how to just…read moreupdate my previous review so here's my final-final. I wanted a lawn/mow free yard, including lots of tan bark, landscape weed barrier, drip system, with lots of drought tolerant plants, water timer and any work needed with pipes/existing sprinklers. I also wanted a small patio area in the front for early morning coffee. We also briefly discussed the possible correction to a VERY bad partial attempt at a pergala/covered patio in my backyard (by someone else that was fired 1/2 way through) . Ozzy and team completed the (original) job in appx 5 days. There were some change orders as we traveled through the process but Ozzy was always polite and accommodating with my questions and adjustments (as I madly Googled info on all of this: what did i know about landscaping :) My front and back yards had been very neglected for some time. QG started by removing a couple inches of my beat up lawns and replacing with new top soil. The gentleman who handled all heavy equipment / paving suggested correcting the soil on the side of my house so water travel downgrade, away from my foundation - great idea! and I've included a pix of that. The small front patio went in (I love coffee in the morning sun) I also asked for a walkway that crosses the yard from left to right. These were done with costs in mind and I am VERY pleased with the outcome. As for the front and back yards, new top soil and landscape weed barrier were laid. Adjustments to pipes and pre-exsiting sprinklers were completed for the drip system and the auto-timer was set up. All the main tubing went in and both lawns were mostly covered with black tan bark. I left 1/3 of my back yard to plant a low maintenance ground cover to replace grass. The day-of the tan bark pickup the vendor was out of the small bark so rather than postpone I just moved forward with the large size. I will say I do think the small bark would have been a better look for residential but that can be corrected down the line if I care to. Except for a couple of adjustments this basically completed the yard work. Due to some scheduling bumps I didn't have plants ready for planting but Ozzy's team would have done that if I had. He did return to do the runner tubes to the plants in front and back and make an adjustment to the one sprinkler in the back for the ground cover. Things went so well I contracted to have my back patio finished by the same person who did the patio and pavers. Originally this job was to just put up the polycarbonate roofing panels but his recommendation was to correct ALL the bad work done by the previous "contractor". This was absolutely the best advise!! Yes, it was more $$ but what a great job he did and it was the RIGHT recommendation. That patio had been in limbo for 5 months while I tried to find someone I could trust. I'm sure many of you know what I'm talking about! Some of my pictures show the a little of the very poor work and then the finished patio roof a little bit - I'm SO happy with the final outcome. It's difficult to start a new business, it's difficult to find and keep people as good as your own intentions. I know Ozzy wants the best for his customers and I wish him all the luck in growing his business. It was a pleasure to have him and his team complete my work.

After a year and a half, my mulch was thinning due to natural decomposition and the wind blowing…read moresome away. There were bare spots, as well as visible drip irrigation lines, and weeds sprouting up due to lack of mulch. I contacted two companies I had worked with before, but the cost was significantly more than expected, so I reached out to a couple of 4.8-5.0 star Yelp landscapers. One said they were out of state and no-serviced the request, but Maria of Sandoval Landscaping & Gardening got back to me the same evening that the bid request went out. She offered to meet me the next day to get an in-person look at the job and give me a quote. After looking at the backyard and seeing the mulch was actually pretty good there, I asked for her thoughts on only doing the front. Maria agreed the front definitely needed a new layer, but the back was in pretty good shape and didn't really need to be done right away or I could spot cover specific areas myself. The other two companies with higher prices quoted a new 1" layer, which seemed kind of thin - or at least would require another re-mulching sooner than what was ideal. But Maria and Armando said they'd apply 2-3", which seemed more in-line with what I was originally expecting in a re-mulch job. Even with that thicker coverage, their price was very reasonable, they could do the job the next day, and they'd also do a little bit of clearing of dead plant material as part of the job. Great! We agreed to move forward and she told me approximately when she and Armando would arrive the next day and roughly how long it would take. They showed up on time, got to work right away, and even did another mulch supply run when they realized the original load wouldn't be enough to cover the whole front yard. That impressed me - instead of just spreading out the original load thinner, they wanted to do the job to their high standards and just acquired more mulch. As you can see from the pics, they did a great job! Since I like to expose some of my more delicate tree trunk bases/root balls to the air (vs cover them in dirt or mulch), when I cleared the base area on those trees, I was able to see they did apply a nice thick layer all over the yard. This should last me at least a couple of years, maybe more. I couldn't be happier with the quality and value of their work. Both Maria and Armando are extremely friendly, flexible, and professional. Would love to use them on a future job when new landscaping is required.

Although they consistently showed up for scheduled visits, the attention to detail was lacking. Each visit lasted max ten minutes, and the work performed was minimal--primarily leaf cleanup, mowing, and basic shrub trimming. Weed control is listed as an included service, but this was not done consistently. In several instances, I was informed that weed control had been completed when it hadn't, which I confirmed through my exterior security cameras. Communication was also slow and often unresponsive; I frequently had to send follow-up texts just to get a reply. Ultimately, we have decided to discontinue the service.

The problems include inconsistent scheduling - visits every 3-7 weeks instead of monthly, being overpriced compared to other services in the market, and worst of all, failure to take responsibility for the plants they planted as initially agreed upon. Rather than taking responsibility and replacing the plants, they accused me of neglect, when we in fact weed and handle seasonal planting - and tried to upsell us instead.

I even got quotes from him for my next door neighbor so we could get this work done all at once. We had to remove our dead pine tree that has been with us since we moved into this house in the late 80's. It was so sad to see the tree go... Jorge's crew arrived at the scheduled time and went straight to work starting with our tree. I watched as they systematically removed all the branches. Then, section by section the worker cut down the trunk. The crew was attentive, safe and efficient with their process. While one chainsaw was being used, the other was being cleaned and refueled. After the tree was more or less cut down, they rolled in the stump grinder and ground down what was left of the stump. They wasted no time. In less than an hour, they moved on to my neighbor's two skinnier trees and cut them down in the same fashion, lastly removing all the thorny rose bushes too. There was debris everywhere! Since they were almost done, I went into the house to grab my checkbook to pay Jorge. When I came out, his grew was gone and all the debris was cleaned up. It was as if nothing had happened. MAGIC. Not one fleck of bark or saw dust to be seen anywhere!! Jorge was very easy to work with and his crew was really friendly. I highly recommend this business (and have been to other neighbors in the area!).
