I recently accepted an employment opportunity in the San Francisco Area and started researching moving companies to assist with my relocation. I did some homework and decided to go with Silicon Valley Moving & Storage (SVMS). I initially spoke with James M about the details and costs associated with my move. James was professional and extremely detailed throughout the process. Pricing was fair and clearly communicated. The office staff was (Stephanie, Traci) helpful and diligent, making sure all the necessary documentation was completed in advance to prevent any headaches. On to the moving team - Joe C was our driver and crew leader. We spoke several times before meeting in Denver (origination location). He clearly communicated the process and timeline. Joe arrived on the pickup/loading date on time and ready to go. He had a team of five people to assist - and all I can say is everyone was excellent! The entire team was polite, hard-working, and extremely careful with our belongings...and to be clear, I'm not the easiest person to Wow! Again - Joe and his team were outstanding! Joe and I connected again - but now in San Francisco for the unloading process. Like before - Joe and his team (new group) were on time and ready to go. This may be a bit redundant, but again the team assembled in SF was awesome! Equally as good, friendly, and polite as the Denver team. From start to finish, Silicon Valley Moving & Storage did the utmost in making our home-to-home transition as seamless as possible for my family. Even in their busy summer season, Cheri, Joe, Joey and team ensured our job was a priority. Our previous home was walked in preparation as we discussed needs for packing and padding. Communications were easy, fast and professional. On the day of our move, a crew of four moved at Tasmanian devil speed with expertise and care to package remaining cabinets, drawers, closets and an entire garage. Boxes were secured and descriptively labeled, and due to the near proximity of our next home, items were completely moved over into the new place by evening. From large furniture items, gym equipment and extraordinarily heavy cement outdoor furniture to an heirloom piano and delicate glassware, the team hefted and handled each item with care. We chose Silicon Valley Moving and Storage to help with a last-minute move. They were able to accommodate us within 24 hours, and we used their storage service until we were ready to move south. The team who emptied our house did an excellent job of packing and wrapping everything from boxes to couches to a 500lb air hockey table. We would like to thank everyone, especially Sergio, Joe and Cheri. One month later they helped us complete a 400 mile move to Southern California. This included emptying the house - including packing artwork, boxes, beds, etc. - and two storage spaces. Eight guys helped get everything packed. The delivery to our new house occurred three days later, with a team of four guys from San Diego, plus our driver Joe from San Jose. We recently moved from our home in Willow Glen to Livermore. My wife called many moving companies for quotes that varied from email replies just stating the rates to video surveys to in home surveys of our complete contents. We settled on SVM&S because of their thorough quote that was explained in detail by Tom and the team and the fair price that we were given. It wasn't the lowest nor was it the highest. On moving day, Jonathan and the crew showed up ON TIME (!) and immediately got to work. They were extremely efficient and courteous. They took great care to carefully pack our contents into the truck. They did a last walk through the house with my wife to be sure they got everything. At the new house, they once again got to work quickly and efficiently putting everything where we asked them too. They took care to protect the hardwood floors with runners and left all the padding on the furniture until it was in the correct room. We even had an upright piano that they moved effortlessly. Before they left, Jonathan did a final walk through again with my wife and asked if we wanted anything moved or changed before they left. The final bill was almost exactly what was quoted to us which we were happy to pay because of the entire experience. The team showed up on time and, in comparison to other movers, simply blew me away. Their care for our personal belongings, communication, timeliness and cleanliness were unmatched. I would highly recommend them for any of your moving or storage needs! A++ As an added bonus, when we were redoing part of our driveway, I had built a 7' x 16' garage for our kids that weighs a ton. I considered buying moving dolly's at a local moving store ($40/per) but what the heck would I do with them after? I decided to give Joe a call to see if I can rent 4 of them from him for our needs (vs. buying and then storing or throwing away)... that same day, he had someone from his location drop off the dollys at no charge... simply excellent customer service (even though I'm a past customer and likely not moving again :) ). Hidden fees and charges! Estimate: 2 guys for $150/hr + $55 fuel charge for 5hrs (4hr minimum). 2 bedrooms and family room. However, you will pay for 2-20min breaks, 1 hr lunch, 1 hour minimum drive time, and billing is rounded up to every 30min. Start time: 8:45am 20 min break @ 10:30 Truck packed at original location 12:55pm Drive time to destination location 11min Arrival at destination 1:45pm, however guys sat in truck for 15min 20 min break @ 3pm Finished job @ 4:15pm Total work time: 5hrs 50min Charged for 8 hrs 45min. Cheri rounded the end time to be 4:45pm. Adding 45min as overtime and charged double! Also added 1hr drive time and said her gps shows the guys took a 15min lunch, not an hour. After asking for an explanation for all the extra charges and charging me for their lunch, she offered to remove the extra 30min she tacked on at the end. Stated she would have to talk to dispatch and the foreman "tomorrow" to clarification on their lunch time. I called and emailed the next day and received no response! Bottom line- over charged over $400 due to hidden fees, paying for non-work time, etc. Do not use this company!! read more

I've moved all around the world and have never had a worse moving experience. The couple that owns and manages the business are crooked thieves. To make a long story short, I caught them faking weight records and official documentation, over charging and bullying/holding hostage clients into signing incomplete paperwork in order to accept delivery of their goods. I submitted investigation requests and reports to the BBB and Department of Consumer Affairs, which ultimately concluded in my favor and i was refunded 50% of my expense. Joe Childs is completely unreasonable and never took responsibility from his workers on a job done on 11/23/19. I like giving 5 stars, but I just can't do it for this company. They started off very friendly and accommodating. They quoted us 3 hours for $300 something, and $25 for gas which is the minimum time for a one bed apartment, and did all the necessary procedures over the phone without too much hassle. We wanted to do the move earlier during the day (around 8 am) so we could finish early as well, because we plan on going to work after. They called us the day before to confirm the appointment, which I think was VERY GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. Little do we know, we were being mislead by all these. Move out day came, and we woke up early to get everything all ready to go once the movers get to our apartment. The estimated start time was between 8 and 9. So we waited... 8:30, still early..we waited a bit more.. 9:00 no show. We called, they said the driver should be there soon. Another estimated time was given.. between 9 and 9:30. 9:15 came, still no show. 9:30, we were getting a little ticked off. We called, and the person on the phone started to sound rattled and can't tell us what's happening. So we waited. AGAIN.. Finally, they came at 10:00. Two freakin' hours of wait. Unacceptable. The driver didn't even apologize for being late. Nor did we hear from the company on why this happened. We were clear over the phone that we need them to be there by 8am. They shouldn't have agreed to this if they wont be able to deliver on what was agreed upon. 2 guys came to move our things. They were very careful , and moved things as fast as they can, but they still went over the 3 hour minimum. It would have been okay for us to pay the extra time, if one of the guys wasn't on his phone too much. He kept calling people and getting phone calls. For me that is a bit unprofessional. We paid extra $100 something for the extra 45 minutes. On my opinion, they shouldn't have done that, considering the fact that they were 2 hours late. We lost hours from work because of this. We still tipped them, but we were not very satisfied of the work done. Oh, just to add this, over the phone we said we have 2 big TVs to move. The movers only brought one TV box. The other one, was just wrapped with a blanket. I don't think I can recommend this place to other people, and will look for another moving company when the need comes up. We have moved a lot but we have never experienced a worse move than with these movers. They inventoried our household items at approximately 93 items. The actual number of items was closer to 300 items. The day of the move they came late and were pulled off the job after only a few hours to go somewhere else. The next day they came back, again late and brought only a few people to pack us up for an overseas trip. We had marked on big sheets of paper with arrows, items that were not to be packed. They promptly packed them and took them to San Jose from Fairfax. At 9:00 pm they were still packing us up when they announced we had exceeded our container limit. We had to be out of the house the next morning and they drove off with no apologies leaving us with a roomful of items not packed. We had to move all those items to our neighbours front yard ourselves and then clean up the mess they left. Paper, tape dispensers, trash. The next day they reluctantly agreed to come and take the remaining items. Again, not a single apology offered. Then after the items were taken to San Jose they called us to tell us we were simply out of luck and would have to rent a storage unit on our dime to store the remaining items. As you might imagine we had to guess what items to pull from our shipment to store in the US. Every piece of furniture that they delivered to storage was only wrapped in plastic and was damaged. They then decided to consolidate the inventory list which as you can imagine was a mess. Upon arrival in Singapore I not only found items we didn't want to bring delivered and 3,000 dollars of our linens and household items were missing.Many of the items that did arrive were broken and the movers unpacking us in our new location told us they were horrified at the job they had done in the US. The cherry on top of it all is after painstakingly filling out the missing and damaged item claim form they told us they were only going to approve less than a third of our claim. Mistakes happen, sometimes even really bad mistakes, heck we're all human but to never offer an apology to us and then to fight us on our claim is simply stunning. read more

I used Silicon Valley Moving last week to pack up a junior one bedroom apartment in San Francisco to be transported down to Los Angeles. Jordan, Sergio and his guys were professional and worked as quickly as possible, but the owner of the company Bob was one of rudest people I have ever done business with. I have truly never been treated with such disrespect or spoken to in that manner. Jordan (who was lovely) showed up an hour late with the moving truck. No apologies or acknowledgement was given around the tardiness. But the more alarming thing was the company only sent one person to pack up my apt -- Jordan mentioned there were 3 other guys nearby finishing up another job and they'd be at my place shortly. Shortly turned in 4+ hours. I naturally called Bob to ask if a solution could be found to speed up the packing/ loading process (i.e. bring another guy from the nearby move to help out at mine) and he was rude, short, and continued to shout over me even as I calmly and politely asked for more help. I was clearly a paying customer here and the ask was nowhere out of line. Would never recommend this company to anyone and continue to be appalled by the way Bob spoke to me. read more

What a nice surprise that Joe was always in contact with us and letting us know when he would be there to meet with us at the storage. After several movers flaked on us due to peak season, we were left scrabbling. From a referral from the Leaving California FB Group, we contacted Silicon Valley Moving and Storage. Sergio in their San Jose office gave us a QUICK response, in person quote and contract. Arranged for pick up/drop off and storage within dates agreed upon in-between locations . Approximately 18,000 lbs, filled a 53 foot tractor trailer from Campbell CA to Spanish Springs (Sparks) NV. Driver Joe and a local crew unloaded and reassembled furniture, approximately 8 hours at our two story home. This review is for service rendered by Silicon Valley Moving & Storage a number of years ago but at that time no review was submitted. Recently, I moved all my documents to the cloud and found an old contract agreement that reminded me of my experience from using their service. Given the strength of my negative experience I felt compelled to finally tie this loose end. On August 19, 2012 I employed Silicon Valley Moving & Storage to move our family household possessions from the River Terrace Apartments to our storage unit at Extra Space Storage in Santa Clara, California. The moving staff were polite, friendly, and closely followed all our instructions in providing extra wrapping material for our expensive cherry wood furniture. I expected our property would be moved with few if any scratches and no major breakages especially since my wife and I monitored the moving staff work. In hindsight the first critical mistake my wife and I made was not watching the actual placement of furniture INSIDE the moving van truck prior to traveling to the storage unit. When I traveled to the storage unit to watch the unloading, I found moving staff hastily applying glue to the legs of one of the dining room chairs. And it would take an unfathomable amount of pressure to crack one of these thick cherry wood dining table chairs. I decided that given the overall moving and storage experience that one broken chair leg was not a major issue. I thanked the moving company staff and gave them a customary tip for the work done. Years later I personally moved my property from Extra Space Storage Santa Clara to Extra Space Storage Stockton, California. Now, inspecting each piece of furniture before carefully removing my furniture from storage I noticed additional damaged furniture. In all there were two additional cherry wood dining table chairs that had obvious signs of hasty repair work with glue. So, the full extent of Silicon Valley Moving & Storage's shoddy work became fully known that day after many years. read more

DO NOT USE SILICON VALLEY MOVING We have used Silicon Valley moving twice. The first move was apartment size move from west coast to east coast that went ok but move estimate was way off. Poor coordination required storage fees. second one not so much.. also west coast to east coast but this was a whole house move with storage for 3 months. We strongly suspect that while our boxes were in storage that someone went through them. We are missing multiple items... Bose soundlink speakers, batteries for Dewalt tools, Bose noise canceling headphones, expensive chefs knives and some items that are irreplaceable. several pieces of furniture packed by carrier were damaged. They clearly loaded things on top without protective padding and now there are indentations in table tops and China Buffett. The Arpin coordinator assigned to our move was useless. Did not coordinate a thing! Ignored our requests and necessitated another unloading / loading and 2 days storage on east coast they charged us for packing our mattress..it was supposed to be boxed while in storage... arrived without box. Ugh! Other carrier packed items ...(shredder)arrived with castors bent in half so have no idea how much weight was packed on top of that item. we never received an inventory from them until the day before our items were to be delivered and have no proof of number of boxes that were put in storage. When they were delivered their were boxes without numbers, several boxes with same numbers and so it was impossible to assess whether everything was delivered or not. Attempts to contact the moving storage company this end have been equally futile. No one returns calls. we are still discovering missing items and all Silicon Valley moving did was tell us "oh well you have 9 moths to claim" and emailed us a claim form We are pretty disgusted with their cavalier attitude And cannot recommen at all. I scheduled an in-house estimate with Cheri Childs on February 24th. She confirmed the appointment for 10:00 am on March 1st over the phone as well as over email. On March 1st at 10:40 am, Cheri hadn't shown up for the appointment, and she hadn't called with any updates. I called Silicon Valley Moving & Storage, and was transferred to Cheri. Cheri said the appointment was "not on her calendar", even though she had confirmed it over the phone as well as over email. I'm pretty dubious that someone who can't even keep an initial in-house estimate appointment is someone I would trust with all my belongings for a long-distance move. read more

I just bought a house and am currently shopping for a moving company. I told the guy that I was going to get back to him because I had gotten a lower quote from another company and was still shopping around. Next thing I know, another guy is on the phone telling me that all the other moving companies are scam artists and that I should go with them. I told him I would get back to him and let him know. Then he starts yelling at me telling me I called him for a quote and now won't even give him the time of day. In reality, I was getting phone calls from my mortgage broker and dad regarding the sign off on my home purchase and that was a far more pressing issue than a moving quote. And I did not call them, I requested a quote online, they called me. Being yelled at by the OWNER of a company certainly makes me very unlikely to EVER go with that company. Moving is stressful enough, being patronized as a patron is very uncool. Considering they had a good BBB rating and positive feedback on here, I really might have gone with them, too. Silicon Valley Moving were the California-leg of a California to Hawaii move. Over two days they came to our location in Redwood City, packed/wrapped our possessions (a 4 bedroom house's worth of stuff, plus lots of tools and garage items), and placed it all in a 40 foot container to ship to Hawaii. The team of 5-6 people, led by "Eddie" were EXCELLENT. They took care with our possessions, were very diligent in wrapping everything up, were efficient, and took care to ensure that nothing was damaged by the rain that occurred during our move. I can't speak highly enough of the team that Eddie led, and the semi truck driver (Tom?) was awesome too. I will definitely use them again for future Bay Area moves. read more

The showed up 2 days and 5 hours late! The packing crew included a young kid of about 10 years of age and his Dad!!! 3 weeks to get our things to NY by a Freight "no touch driver". Broken items, and things taken apart that no one knows how to fix. Refuse to answer phone calls or even provide us with claim forms. Budget and guys from the corner are better. Don't do it!!!
