I got to try Silver and Son's BBQ Truck at Lost Generation Brewing! We got to try a sampler with a variety of different items! They had staples like brisket, which was tender and specials like the smoked wings, which had so much smoky flavor to it. The pork rib pastrami was tasty but a little dry and the sausages were decent. The sides definitely amplified the meal and I really liked how they put a unique twist on the sides. The harissa carrots were really good, and their Napa cabbage slaw made me think of Korean water kimchi, because it was so refreshing. They also had lemon toasted potatoes and Mac and cheese. The meal came with huge pieces of bread, bbq sauce, pickles, and tzatziki sauce. For dessert we tried the bread pudding, which was soft and gooey, and what looked like a s'mores rice crispy, which you can't go wrong with. read more

Took my brutha here to celebrate his birthday and it's basically an upscale carryout. A couple sets of (8) chairs outside and a few benches inside - all occupied. If I could give this place 100 stars, I would! They have done the impossible in marrying Jewish Mediterranean cuisine with good old American BBQ, and the results are spectacular. Today I visited, and as today is Veterans Day, and the restaurant was offering complimentary items from their menu, I enjoyed a substantial menu platter called "2x2" which includes two main items, two side dishes, and a roll. WOW! I had the shredded lamb shoulder and the brisket, with smoked beets and smoked carrots for sides. It was an immensely great choice, as all four delivered exceptional satisfaction! Both the lamb and brisket were perfectly cooked, and the lamb, which has a garlic ginger crust, exemplifies why this marriage of Jewish Med and USA BBQ is a great one. The beets were also notable, and as a big beet fan, easily the best beet side dish that this Elite Yelper has ever tasted, which includes eating them in Israel many years ago! The carrots were also really good with a bit of a kick! The chef is Jarrad Silver, who is a local and opened this Bethesda location about a year or so ago. Wow! Wow! Wow! This has to be my favorite BBQ joint in the dmv. Bbq with Jewish/Mediterranean flare inspiration. I often find when I go for BBQ, it's super greasy or it falls in my stomach like a brick that will take forever to digest. I was very pleased with the meaty non fatty portion of brisket and the platter offerings with the short rib pastrami sandwhich. I got the chick pea salad, with the GF Salud bread, smaltz potatoes, mac and cheese. All items were excellent and my gall bladder that tends to be sensitive didn't protest at all. Stopped by for the mixed platter fur two with the brisket, lamb, sausage and smoked turkey. Loved it all, including the four sauces. Could have used more sauce! Sides are fresh and bright - we had the amazing Mac and cheese and Israeli salad, which was a bit soggy and tasteless. I feel like it was dressed hours ago. Ended with the apple bread pudding. Fantastic reuben! I'd heard it was good and had to check it out for myself. It was a bit of a drive for me (~35 minutes) but worth it. I arrived and there's plenty of free parking right near the restaurant. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The one criticism would be space to eat. I want to start by saying I did have my food delivered via Uber Eats, which probably didn't help my experience. I got the brisket and pulled lamb. The brisket didn't have much flavor, as the rough cut I received had hardly any bark. The pulled lamb was tough and had absolutely no flavor at all. I did get the sweet BBQ sauce, which was the only thing providing any satisfying taste. I also got the mac and cheese and potatoes, which were equally as bad. I found the Silver and Sons BBQ truck parked outside Lost Generation on a Friday evening. Hunger struck me at the right time because about 20 minutes after I got my food a huge line formed! A BBQ meal is best mixed with one of the best breweries in town. I ordered the brisket sandwich. Some places give you slices of brisket between the bread. Silver and Sons packed together chunky pieces of brisket, which I also liked. The meat was good, but just a little dry. Good thing the sandwich comes with your choice of sauce. I also loved the soft challah bun, a great combination with the brisket. Service was very pretty quick. They told me not to go far and when I almost went inside the building to look for a seat, they called my name ready with the sandwich. For a truck, I'm impressed by the variety of meat and sides on the menu. I would love to try the lamb or pastrami next time. read more

I prefer a more tangy flavor (add a little relish) but otherwise solid. I want to go back and try the ribs and merguez sausage. I would love to see more sauce options. Overall a good truck - not in the least it's new to our neighborhood which hasn't seen too many new trucks for a while. The BBQ meats are very good - we had the chicken (you can specify dark or white meat) and beef, both quite tasty and sufficiently tender. Can't say that about the sides - the potato was way overcooked and the Mac and cheese as well and as someone else had pointed out not much cheese. Per the online menu, I was overcharged about $7 total for the meats I got, the sides include things most people don't eat... Who puts chickpeas in coleslaw??? The brisket was dried out and old... The pastrami was just okay... The cider sauce is good... But literally couldn't get any sides because the sides have nothing to do with traditional BBQ... Who gets tabouleh with BBQ? So, I am funny when it comes to food trucks, haven't had the best experiences with them. But Silver and Son's BBQ has opened me up to food truck a little more. I love going to the market in Bethesda, and this Sunday they were there and plan on being there for the next few months for brunch. With that said their full menu isn't available just brunch, but you won't be disappointed! The customer service is perfect. Friendly, efficient and just over all good energy. I have only tried the lamb hash, normally I try to taste more before writing a review, but I have been thinking about it since I ate it lol. I will be getting some next Sunday for sure. So the hash consists of pulled lamb (cooked and seasoned perfectly) potatoes, cooked peppers and onions and two fried eggs. The fat from the lamb is absorbed by the potatoes and it almost melts in your mouth. They give you just enough for a good sized breakfast. The best hash I have ever had. I got the sandwich platter which consists of one meat choice (you can add a second for a few bucks), a fresh challah roll, your choice of "Bulldog", spiced vinegar or Baharat Mustard BBQ sauce (though honestly, none is needed) a side like mac/cheese and a dessert. The Bethesda barbecue scene has a new hub. Silver and Sons opened its first brick-and-mortar a few weeks ago. I stumbled in after a haircut next door, and wow, what a neighborhood addition. Phenomenal quality. Original offerings, inspired by local chef-owner Jarrad Silver's Jewish and Mediterranean influences. So many barbecue menus are predictable. Not here. S&S has the basics but enough options to excite everyone in a large group. I chose the sandwich platter, which comes with a side and dessert. We previously got a taste from the Silver and Sons food truck (which was amazing!), so this weekend we ventured 30 minutes from home to check out the brick and mortar. Everything was phenomenal and we could not have been more happy that we did! All of the meat selections were fantastic... My 7 year old said that the pastrami and chicken were "fire!," and my 5 year old asked "if we could give it 100 stars?!" I loved it all, but thought the brisket was the best, but also that it was as the best pastrami we have ever had in the DMV! Joey was so friendly and kind, as was everyone that we encountered. You could just get the sense that it was a special family-owned business run by really great people. Absolutely delightful! Probably the best falafel I've had outside of Europe and Israel and New York City. The muhummara was also delightful, with just the right amount of heat. The lavash that accompanied it was good too. The smoked walnut baklava was a little dry, but very tasty, with complex flavors showcasing the smokings of the walnut. My wife is more of a fan than I am, though each of us felt it was heavy in pasta, short in cheese. The platter allows four meats. We chose chicken, and it was moist and tender. We chose a beef rib that was smokey. Up next was the pastrami which we loved. Lastly, instead of the lamb we ordered, we got brisket. We loved the brisket as well, but a small ding for getting the order wrong. Both deserts, baklava and babka bread pudding were killer. This is (by far) the best barbecue I've had in DC and I'm pretty sure the best barbecue I've had outside of Texas. It's supposed to be middle-easier and Jewish barbecue, which it is to some extent, but mostly it's just really good barbecue. The fact that the food truck set up a less-than-five-minute walk from my house is nothing short of miraculous. I'll be back as often as I can, which would be twice a week if they keep their current schedule. More honestly, probably at least every other week. We got the brisket, pastrami short ribs, pulled lamb shoulder, mac and cheese, challah rolls, and rice krispy treats. The meat was all great, but the brisket and pulled lamb were the standouts. The brisket holds up to Austin (where I lived for over three years) barbecue brisket and that's really saying something since Austin has arguably the best barbecue brisket in the world. It was moist and fell apart easily without being overly fatty. I've been looking for anything to come close since leaving and instead have mostly just ordered it shipped. This was good enough, I might not have to do that. The pulled lamb brought some of the deeper, earthier flavors of lamb to what's normally ho-hum pulled pork. I'd love to see more barbecue places do it. The pastrami short ribs were very good, but not as good as the lamb or brisket. The parts which were rub-heavy were better. The rest of it was just a hair fattier and chewier than you'd like. Maybe it was just the particular cut that day, but we'll see when I go back. The sauces were also all good, but the mustard sauce was the winner. It was tangy and strong enough to go toe-to-toe with the lamb and brisket without overpowering them. The other sauces were more generic, but still good barbecue sauce. My wife really liked the mac and cheese, but I thought it was a bit light on the cheese and more just noodles than I'd like. The rice krispy treat was really good and good notch above what you'd make at home (and a huge level above store-bought) with whole marshmallows and warm, gooey chunks of chocolate, but still didn't really measure up to how amazing the barbecue was. read more

Probably the best bbq I've ever had. I saw this on on the Washingtonian best 100 restaurants and I instantly knew I needed to try it. My boyfriend and I decided to go for a hike on a Saturday morning and hit up this food truck after as a reward. We went to the food truck that was at a local brewery and we got two of the $50 meals in order to try a little bit of everything. Every single thing we tried was really good, from the bread to all of the meat and the mac & cheese. We also tried the dessert and it was phenomenal.
