One of my best friends and I wanted to spend some quality time together, so we kicked off Christmas Eve with a tennis class and decided to grab breakfast afterward . Normally, we'd opt for a trendier DC brunch spot, but since the class was in the Largo/Upper Marlboro area, we went with an old faithful: Silver Diner. We both knew one thing immediately - milkshakes were non-negotiable . We ordered the Mocha Holiday Shake, and wow... it was so good and they definitely don't skimp on the portion. Super rich, festive, and honestly could've been a meal on its own. For food, my friend ordered the steak and eggs, and I went slightly outside my comfort zone with the corned beef hash. I've maybe had corned beef hash once in my life and it's not something I'd usually order but I was in a weird mood where my usual go-tos (shrimp & grits or an omelet) just weren't doing it for me ‍. To my surprise, I loved it. The corned beef hash was served with potatoes, caramelized onions, and eggs, which I ordered scrambled with cheddar cheese . Everything tasted hearty, comforting, and like something your country relative would make at home, in the best way possible. Given it was Christmas Eve, the place was pretty packed, but we were seated right away (we arrived around 10:15am). The restaurant itself is quite large and also has a bar area with self-seating. Our server, a young guy who was likely a teenager was friendly and attentive, though a bit forgetful. I didn't hold that against him since it looked like he was covering quite a few tables and doing his best. Overall, the food and service were solid, but I do have one request: better hot sauce options . Tabasco is simply not real hot sauce. Crystal or Louisiana would be much more appropriate especially in the Black community . All in all, Silver Diner did exactly what it needed to do: comfort food, good vibes, and a nostalgic, reliable experience. I'd definitely return the next time I'm in the area.

My 1st time at this location. It's been a few years since I've been to one. Our waitress was great. I ordered French toast with a side of home fries. Our food came and it was luke warm that my butter didn't melt on my French toast. Disappointed in that. The home fries just had onions and cheese piled on top and not warm. A little disappointing in the food. Service was great.

I haven't been to an old school diner like this in ages. The nostalgic feel of the red chairs, the floor tiles, having a booth. Where many places today run to what's trendy, these were mostly classic dishes made with organic, clean ingredients. I liked this so much, I went for breakfast, had my mind blown and ran back for dinner the next day that I could. If I had to choose between them, I say go twice. Starting with breakfast, not enough menus today have a classic lumberjack breakfast. I asked for the local sausage and this was easily one of my favorite parts. The shrimp and grits took the spotlight. The grits you could eat with a fork (but were not dry!) The sausage was juicy and spicy, and I didnt feel like I had to look for shrimp. I would not suggest the eggrolls. New sauce. New flavor combo. Something else has to happen. The wings are legit. I didnt share any additional preference and the wings came saucy yet still crispy. The crab cake sandwich with lobster au jus, was Maryland. Everything I needed from Maryland in one delicious bite. I wish they also served lobster bisque to have that much more of the sauce. A very easy go to in the future.

Lanham, MD isn't exactly a destination dining city, so stumbling onto Silver Diner and going back a second time tells you something. We hit it twice during a recent trip: once for breakfast, and once for dinner. Both times, the menu range stopped us in our tracks. This isn't a laminated-two-pager situation. There's real variety here, and it's executed with a level of care that genuinely surprised me. Portion sizes are exactly where they should be (not the grotesque American overload, not the pretentious undersell) and the flavors are consistently on point. The one exception: my other half felt her breakfast potatoes were a little flat, with bland seasoning and a texture that wasn't quite there. A minor thing, but worth noting because everything else around it cleared a higher bar. For breakfast, the coffee was ok, though I suspect ours had been sitting too long. Not a dealbreaker, but a place this dialed-in should probably be more attentive to that detail. Value is where Silver Diner arguably embarrasses its competition. The price-to-quality ratio is legitimately hard to explain. Where else do you get this kind of menu variety, this level of execution, and walk out without wincing at the bill? Whoever runs this chain is paying attention to the details and clearly cares about making an impression, and it shows in almost every aspect of the operation, including a noticeably clean dining room. That said, the staff was somewhat of a letdown. They're efficient, sure, but warm they are not. The payment handoff in particular felt oddly transactional...they simply extended the payment device across the table. It's a small thing that lands wrong when the rest of the experience is so clearly intentional. I find it hard to square how much attention goes into the food and environment, and how little seems to go into making guests feel like the staff actually wants to be there. All in all, if Silver Diner ever opens in the Pacific Northwest, I'll be in line before the doors open, and I suspect half of the Seattle area would join me. Go. Absolutely worth your time if you want some low-priced quality, casual food.

Now, I'm a little disappointed to write this but as I say to enjoy what I thought would be a simple morning breakfast alone, I was joined by some kind of bug crawling throughout the bar area. I've been to this location before and haven't had any issues however if there's one bug there's likely more. I did let the server know and she sort of cringed and said she'll let someone know. I couldn't finish my good because I was so focused on watching where that bug was going.

I wrote a great 4 star review while waiting for the check that abruptly went to negative 48 stars (if possible). Went in, ate, had a nice time, and when we walked out the front door....SOAKED! There was a crew pressure washing the signs above the front door soaking every patron that walked out with dirty water! Zero excuse for this. Middle of the day, on a weekday, and during lunch time! Tons of patrons disgusted. Who planned this and why was no one telling them to stop?! Negative stats but now for the review I wrote BEFORE walking out the front door.... Clean, welcoming and fast service until we waited a while for the check. I had the caramel French toast with eggs and bacon. My husband had the tuna melt. Mine was fabulous. My husband said his sandwich was amazing but the fries were cold. Still a great meal in a fun place with . We will definitely be back here or try other locations.

It's not just a diner. We are at the bar as we were pressed for time and table were a 20 minute wait. The customer service is very good however the food is even better. Everything we had was delicious- the mimosa could definitely do with some tweaking to make it delicious. The ambiance is good for a diner - check Them out. Your belly will thank you

Finding a restaurant in the DMV with solid plant-based options for a toddler is no small feat, but Silver Diner has been our go-to after my son's basketball practice. The only issue? No plant-based options on the kids' menu--unless you count dessert. I'd love to pay kid prices for my kid's meal, but every time I try to order the oat milk protein pancakes from the kids' menu, it comes out wrong. So now? I just order from the regular menu and keep it moving. Parking & Seating Parking is super easy since it's located in a town center--no need to circle for a spot. The quoted wait time was 10-15 minutes, but we were seated closer to 10. Service & Drinks Our server greeted us and handed out menus, but when I initially asked for water, she only brought it for my partner and me--not my son. I assumed "water for the table" meant everyone, but lesson learned! For drinks, we ordered: * Watermelon Cucumber Lemonade - refreshing and flavorful! * Mocha Cold Brew - smooth, but our receipt later revealed a billing issue (more on that below). * Kids' Oat Milk - ordered after I realized my son's water never came. Food Breakdown * Apple Pie Stuffed French Toast (Bae's Order) - He enjoyed it but wished the apples were softer. He had to go get syrup himself since our server was by the expo window. * Bacon Bleu Burger with Fries (My Order) - Decent, but nothing mind-blowing. The fries tasted fresh but weren't the warmest. * Oat Milk Protein Pancakes with Just Egg (Kid's Order) - My toddler actually ate half of the pancakes and all his Just Egg, which is basically a win in toddler dining! The Bill & Final Thoughts Our subtotal was $71.23, but with taxes and tip, it came to $89.76. Later, I realized our server never removed the original coffee my boyfriend ordered before switching to a mocha cold brew. Not a dealbreaker, but definitely a note for next time. Will I return? Yes. The food is solid, and finding something a toddler actually likes is a win. But service can be hit or miss depending on the server, so I go in with realistic expectations. Overall Rating: 3.5/5 * Great plant-based options (just not on the kids' menu) * Easy parking & usually a short wait * Service is inconsistent * Warm, not hot, fries & billing mistake Pro Tip: If you're ordering plant-based for a kid, just go straight to the regular menu and don't mention it's for a toddler. Trust me.

Great food and even better service! I went for a classic breakfast--pancakes, eggs, and turkey sausage. It came out quickly, piping hot, and was absolutely delicious. The pancakes were fluffy, eggs were cooked perfectly, and the turkey sausage was seasoned just right. One downside: the bacon. If you're like me and prefer it crispy, definitely let your server know. It came out a bit flimsy, and I was a little disappointed. Other than that, everything was fantastic! The diner is quite popular, especially during brunch hours, and they don't allow you to put your name on the waitlist in advance. So, if you don't want to wait too long, I'd recommend getting there a bit earlier before peak times. Overall, a great spot with good food and friendly service. Will definitely be back!

    Almost done....LOL

So let's just say SD hadn't fallen off my radar but it's been a minute. Yesterday, I visited the Woodmore location. When I arrived who do I see but Joseph, one of the managers. Joseph, who remembered me immediately welcomed me and asked where I'd been. I explained work and travel but told him that after a somewhat challenging day I wanted/needed a good meal. Let me just say I was not disappointed. The new seasonal menu is AWESOME. I chose the Rosemary Lamb chops (Blackened and grilled to a Medium temperature) and made a few changes to my vegetables. It was Soooooo good and I topped it off with their new key lime pie dessert. Yes, everything was good but the service provided by Joseph and my server absolutely OUTSTANDING. Needless to say, I'll be back to try some of the other seasonal offerings soon. SD, Silver Diner did it

One day we'll be able to give half stars. Strong 4 stars. The food here is always delicious. One of our favorite spots when we are in this part of MD. Service is a touch slow so pack your patience. Also, we not ever been here when it isn't crowded. Come hungry not hangry in case you have a bit of a wait. They have a full service bar with a few drafts on tap.

Going on a Friday night I just knew it would be packed, but surprisingly it was easy to get a spot at a table near the bar. The wait for a table in the main restaurant was running about 40 mins, but would have risked not being seated before the kitchen closed. Despite the bar being busy, we were greeted and served pretty quickly. The DC tap water is my go to drink and you definitely get your moneys worth. My husband ordered the hurricane and was very satisfied with the amount of liquor he could actually taste. For meals I had to get the tiger wings. I love that sauce so much and wish they sold the sauce by itself. Also got a side of the greens which were tasty and not overcooked, I just feel like the flavor is something I would get tired of after a while. My husband ordered the jambalaya and it was also good. The wait was 1.5 hours (added our names remotely) but upon arrival there seemed to be confusion. A server never came to take drink orders or provide silverware. We even got our first plates with nothing then had to ask the manager. She had someone come by but it was strange for such a busy day to forget us or not have assigned servers. Overall, the food was inconsistent. Some things were bland and others seasoned very well. The turkey sausage was mid and grits had no flavor - cheese grits at that. We rolled up during happy hour and the bar was already three deep with concert goers, professionals still in their work clothes, and a few locals holding their usual spots. There were no open tables in sight but that didn't matter. We found our corner of the bar fast, and honestly, that ended up being the best seat in the house. A band played soft in the background. Servers moved through in outfits that said upscale, not sports bar. The whole room had that pre-show buzz, dressed up but not stiff. We blended in well. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip on a local's recommendation. It came with warm chips, sour cream, and a house made salsa that quietly stole the entire appetizer. I wanted a bowl of just the salsa. Our server, who clearly knew the menu inside and out, sold us on the smoked salmon, and we added a side of bacon mac and cheese along with the cornbread. The salmon looked right, cooked medium with real smoke on it, but the smoke won the fight against the fish. Mushy inside, more fishy than smoky should allow. The sauce didn't rescue it either. Sautéed spinach on the side needed salt, plain and simple. Then the cornbread and mac and cheese showed up and reminded us why we came. Rich, comforting, with the kind of flavor that makes you forget the salmon happened. When I'm back, I'm ordering both of those twice and calling it a meal. Drinks were the real win. A Saratoga sparkling water kept things clean between bites, and the Peartini was one of the better cocktails I've had in a while, balanced, not too sweet, actually worth the price. The seat beside us turned over twice during the meal, first someone who went to the concert a few days earlier and wanted to talk about it, then someone else who slid in for a quick drink while waiting on their table. Both ended up in easy conversation with us, no forcing it. That's the part I keep thinking about, not the salmon. Copper Canyon got the room right, the drinks, the starters, the easy conversation with strangers. Some nights the food is the headline. This one, it was the people and the vibes, making it a great after-work or pregame pitstop, and that's always worth gathering for.
