We usually go to the Silver Diner in Tysons as it is closer. Tonight, there was a line out the door so we decided to come to this Silver Diner which is only a few extra minutes from our home. What a great idea! Super service, delicious food and friendly staff. Food came promptly. I had the jack cheddar cheese omelet and my husband had the BYOB cheeseburger. Both came exactly as we ordered even though we asked for substitutions. Our server was very attentive to our needs and was extremely pleasant and gracious. I've been coming here for years and it still holds up well. Service is excellent. The food is delicious. The menu has diner standards but heart healthy and vegan options as well. Additionally they have seasonal variety with local produce and beverages. For families, couples or a group of friends, you can't go wrong. There are quieter corners of the restaurant if that's what you desire. Juke Boxes add to the ambience though sometimes they don't work quite as expected. read more

Came to eat with the family for an early dinner. My son had the mac n cheese with mash. And he seems quite pleased. I had the banana stuffed french toast and it looked just like the picture and tasted like I should just tape it right to my behind lol. Delicious!!!!! To be honest, I was very excited to try out the new items on the menu. However, I was quite disappointed on how they came out. I tried the turkey burger and it was very very bland, no sauce on it or anything. The salad I got on the side was also very bland. I remember over 10 years ago when I used to go as a kid (different menu at the time), everything was much better. I do understand that the current menu provides healthier options than how it originally was, but everything is just tasteless and not worth it anymore. I went here for lunch today and ordered the Philly Steak sandwich with fries. Once I went to pick up my order I immediately felt as though I made a mistake. The cheesesteak was awful. One of the worst I've ever eaten. The fries had a garlicky taste to them which I didn't like. As a whole the entire meal didn't taste like diner food at all. I'd compare what I just ate to anything you would order at a chain fast food joint. In town staying at the Homewood Suites and spotted this gem across the parking lot. The menu selection is very diverse....local produce salads to a great looking burger. Since traveling alone I sat at the counter which was great. The restaurant is very clean and well maintained. I ordered the warm salad with beet, Brussel sprouts, seeds, rocket lettuce...very tasty and filling. I will be back in a few weeks during my next trip! read more

Stopped in for breakfast before heading to the ER to get my injured elbow x-rayed. We knew we'd need fortification before facing hours in an ER hallway! Silver diner was the correct call! I was turned off by the loudspeaker announcing " must try" options to the parking lot, but once inside, it was great! Fun decor, quick seating in a booth, prompt and super-friendly service. And the menu! A huge range of healthy, interesting options! We had Huevos Rancheros with bison, and the Power Breakfast, and grits. Power breakfast was great - fresh and flavorful. Huevos were good, too, but the tortilla that came with was not. Cooked way too dark, and greasy - inedible, basically. Grits were the real deal. Coffee was very good - and bottomless. So, that breakfast got us through 4 hours on the ER and beyond. Highly recommended! My elbow - yup, broken! Tripped on a Mexican sidewalk. But that's a story for another time! read more

Not our usual go-to place, but was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and food quality. We were just coming back from a weekend excursion and decided to stop at Silver Diner to satisfy everyone's tastes. I ordered the turkey dinner platter, which came with a side of [roasted] veggies and mashed potatoes. It also included a little cup of cranberry orange 'chutney' but it was more saucy than chutney. It was a good complimentary flavor though. The roasted vegetables were the true highlight, although the portion was a little skimpy. There was butternut squash, beet and brussel sprouts included in the mix and they were lightly seasoned with oil, salt and pepper. The other highlight was the gravy: flavorful and a good consistency but not too much. The mashed potatoes are an essential and tasted fresh, but again the portion was small, relative to the price of the dish ($14+). Hubs got the fish and chips with a side of veggies and cole slaw. Brother got a BLT with fried and cole slaw. Sis got the Baja fish tacos (grilled) which had a fantastic side spinach salad with all sorts of fruit and walnuts in it. I think she got the prize for best deal of the night. We ordered desserts to share and they were split for us. The staff was extremely responsive and helpful throughout our visit and the music - often overbearing at SD - was enjoyable and low-key. read more

I went to silver diner for a late lunch yesterday I didn't expect much from a chain restaurant but I was pleasantly surprised. Christine suggested the surf and turf (steak and shrimps) and it was fantastic. Christine greeted us with an inviting smile and was very accommodating when my girlfriend asked for some unique substitutions on her entree. First off, props to the upper management for completely overhauling the menu while still maintaining the essence of a diner. The food has various vegan and vegetarian option. They have also started carrying some organic and local options. Always a big plus for us when we are dining out. We had the mango stir fry and the pesto pasta. Both great options. The service was friendly, and the ambiance very "diner-y". The wife had never been a fan of diners thinking that they only do unhealthy food. Thank you silver diner for converting her. I've eaten here many times and I've seen multiple cockroaches and one mouse. The staff seems to lack training despite me being told they train for 6-8 weeks and also despite the restaurant not being that high end the food took over 20 minutes to come out. Love this place! I have been to locations in Arlington and Fairfax and both have delivered excellent, friendly service and fresh and creative food. The dedication to offering a true American Diner experience with the decor is an added bonus. You pay a little more than the standard Bob Evans or Denny's, but the price is small, considering you are supporting local farmers/companies and getting less processed food. I have seen this place for some time and I thought it was okay but I think its great now. I was happy to see that they have a robust gluten free menu and the staff knows it completely and offered items that I would like. There were so many gluten free options that I want to return to try the others. The service was great and there is more than enough food eat. The food was prepared perfectly and served quickly. This is our second visit into this place this month. I honestly don't remember what I ordered the first time, but I do remember the summer salad which included mango, tender spinach leaves and other fresh fruit served with a vinegarettdressing. Yummy! This visit I ordered the fish plate which came with slaw and old bay fries. The old bay fries were the highlight of my meal--crispy, well seasoned and hot out of the grease. The fish had no seasoning at all, but was cooked perfectly. Simply seasoning the fish with the "same" old bay seasoning would have made this lunch perfect. If you order the fish, specifically ask that they season it with Old Bay. That's it! read more

What a wonderful experience I had in this place. I had bacon blue burger and it tasted really god. I specially like the onion straws which were so crispy and it added great flavor in the food. The only reason I am taking a star off is the service because I thought that the service was not up to the silver diner expectation as they guarantee 110% guarantee. Having the Bison/egg/chorizo hash breakfast... mmmmmmm.... the flavors mix very well and the level of spiciness is about right,.. not too vicious for a morning stomach, but enough to make the guac and goat cheese needed. The portion is more than I need, but it's so hard to just let it go that I'm staying a while longer to try to fit it in. The puffed wheat tortillas are a very nice addition to balance some of the other salient flavors. I recommend you leave out the peppers and you may want the eggs done more than 'easy',... the yokes do blend the flavors nicely, but I just like to better manage where they go. read more

If you like eating in a place that smells like b.o. and an ashtray then Silver Diner is the place for you! The 50s theme is great but it is completely ruined due to the reasons already mentioned. As far as the food goes, hard to say. My husband raved about his omelet but I ordered a hamburger and it was obviously a frozen patty that was just nuked in a microwave. Very hard place to rate. I want to give it 3 for the burgers and cleanliness. But so many mediocre menu items. Cleanliness is above average for a diner. Service is friendly most of the time. Ambience is good. Menu items are INCONSISTENT, though the items that are good are pretty consistently good. Hamburgers are quite good. The Mozzarella and Basil pesto sandwich is good. Maybe some other items are good too but I only order those two. I wouldn't trust the buffalo burger because I haven't tried it. If you do, let me know how it is. Other menu items, most of the sandwiches and salads, and even breakfasts, I'd say try at your own risk. A lot of the items on the menu are simply not very good tasting, two levels below, say, I-Hop. They really need to trash 2/3 of the items on the menus simply for being blah. Breakfast was nothing special. read more

Very disappointing. Breakfast for 2 with tip @ $42 should be better. Service was great but won't make up for poor food. The corned beef hash was nothing but a plate of potatoes and maybe one egg. I lived across the street in the Vantage apartments for two years. Silver Diner has a speaker on their roof that blares music all day and night. I could hear this inside my apartment with the windows closed. The county refused to enforce a noise ordinance and Silver Diner refused to turn off or even turn down the noise. When my fiance and I first came out to the DC area to find a place to live, we got lost in Arlington and went to Silver Diner to get something to eat and figure out what we were doing. Good food and a friendly server helped us relax. Now we live in Falls Church, and there is a Silver Diner right down the street. If you're looking for a fancy meal you won't get it here. But they do give you above-average diner fare. I love the local options and the healthy options they offer, and the tomato-basil-goat cheese omelet is one of my favorite breakfast items. My fiance is a fan of the meatloaf. Sandwiches and burgers are also good, and the shakes are excellent! My friend filled out their comment card when she came to visit "If I owned Silver Diner, I would..." and she filled in "open a Silver Diner in Cincinnati, Ohio." The menu is large enough so that everyone could find something tasty and the food preparation was outstanding. The ingredients were fresh and tasty but I was hoping for something more spicy. My husband had the Lumberjack breakfast scrambled with ham (real thin slices which was kind of odd), crispy bacon, homefries (deep fried potatoe pieces) and a biscuit.
