I do most of my own work on my vehicles, but there's some things I just can't do at home; like an alignment. I brought both my 2013 Beetle and my 2014 RAV4 here for alignments after I did some suspension work, and they did a great job on both. Tyler was my service advisor and was easy to work with. They got me in quickly, didn't try to sell me a bunch of stuff I didn't need, and even picked both vehicles up for me from my workplace, which was a huge help. They charged me over $500 to repair a gas tank leak, and it continued to leak, refused to stand behind their work. They snapped off a tire stud and wanted to charge me for that as well. I refused. They towed our other car from our house, and they damaged the catalytic converter on the car. They removed it before work was even authorized. I had enough and was done doing business with them, but.. Fmy daughter was locked out of the vehicle, insurance company called them. They left my daughter out in adverse weather for 2 hours and then cancelled out. Insurance company couldn't explain it, but it appeared to be retribution for bad reviews. Amazing service!! Regarding my Chevy 2012 Volt: I had my car fixed twice for the same problem in the winter2024/2025. The company customer care team called me out of the blue to see how I felt and took down my concerns. Car fixed but still didn't charge due to frigid cold weather. So brought it back in April, 2025. The team worked with me , I received a free rental so I I could work, I received free delicious cookies/ coffee so I could stress eat/ drink( thinking what this car repair is gonna cost me) and free pens I and my co- workers love ! They reprogrammed the car again. I was able to pass emissions. They followed through on their warranty. My cost was significantly lower. (Like extremely low). Where do I start? My auto was a little jerky and it was suggested to have a place that looks at transmission look it over just in case. I went to Silver Lake Auto because I could get in the next morning. It did not have a check engine light on at the time. After they kept all day they called me and said there was a transmission fluid leak, I need a new battery, and I need a new transmission at a cost of over $18,000 - yes that's not a typo. I said I was picking it up. I spent 2 weeks taking to a couple different transmission specialists. After cleaning out remaining fluid and filling, it was running great. They could not find another thing wrong with my vehicle! I DIDN'T NEED ANYTHING EXCEPT FLUID. DO NOT GO TO SILVER LAKE AUTO. They either have totally incompetent people working there or they do this on purpose. How do I know if I would have even gotten a transmission? And when I picked it up, they didn't even say - Oh by the way your fluid is low so we through some in to get you back home! They also never offered any other options to try first - they were adamant I needed a new transmission. Unbelievable. read more

My car had recently stopped accelerating and I found myself in need of a repair for it. I am new out here in Oconomowoc, so I had no idea where to take it. Just prior to the car breaking down, the battery needed to be jumped as well. I inquired of the roadside assistance man and he had recommended Silverlake, so I went with it. The next day, I had spoken with a man who told me I needed $7000 worth of work and it was all very imminent. I asked how much would it be just to solve the biggest problem as to why it stopped running, just to get her going again. I needed a throttle. He quoted me $1500, but was very foreboding about the rest and insisted it needed to all be done asap. I asked if it would make it another year if I just had the throttle fixed and he said most likely not. He said the car didn't have another year left in her. So, I checked here on yelp after that call and called another highly recommended garage. The man there quoted me $550. Same job! So, I had it towed over there. However when I called Silverlake to inform them I was taking it elsewhere, they hit me with a $185 diagnostics check bill; this is Only for the diagnostics people! I was so upset. Times are tough already, right? So, the other place did the work and it cost a total of $586 and guess what... The rest of what my car needs is good for quite a while. So, lesson learned for me. I really don't like doing a bad review, I just really don't! Yet, I think folks should know what happened to me in case they get blindsided like I was. Not cool Silverlake! We've been taking our many vehicles to Silverlake Auto in Oconomowoc for 20+ years. Recently made an appointment for an oil change and delivered my car on Tuesday morning. They called me and indicated I needed rear brakes replaced and they would have it done later that day. The work was not done on Tuesday and I received no call. Checked with them on Wed. and it was to be done and they'd call me. No call on Wed. Called them on Thursday to pick it up and was told the work had not been done but would be and they'd call when ready to pick up. No call on Thursday. Called on Friday and they said it would be done soon. I received a call late on Friday indicating it was done. I picked up the vehicle only to find they disconnected the emergency brakes and forgot to reconnect them. Drove back to them and they did not have anyone there to reconnect the emergency brakes and they were closing. Was leaving on a trip Saturday and said I'd bring it in when I returned the following Monday. Was told it's a 3 hour job and asked to pick it up early afternoon. Finally received a call around 4:30 indicating it was completed. It took 4 days for an oil change and rear brakes. Also, my son took his vehicle into their Brookfield location and was told his vehicle needed $6,000 in repairs. He took it to another mechanic and had the problem fixed for $550 and was told their were no other problems with the car that were imminent. That was about 1 year ago and he's having no problems with the car. I don't feel that I can trust the mechanics in the shop any longer and the service managers frequently recommend work that is not necessary. Needless to say, we've found another local shop with a good reputation. read more

When I arrived at 9:45 I was told that they couldn't do my service until 1:00. Apparently their appointment scheduling doesn't matter. I can only speak on the integrity of this business, since I wasn't able to actually be serviced. I was in the middle of making an appointment because of a clicking noise in my vehicle, but when the gentlemen heard that I had a 2021 Jeep with 4,000 miles, he suggested I take it to the dealership because its still under warranty. Brought my car in for an oil change only to find the the axel cover on the passenger side was torn and the axel needed replacement I was offered a free car and immediate service on my vehicle..How convenient I thought as I drove home i got another quote for half the price. So I cancelled the repair at silverlake and brought my car to another area mechanic only to find out there was no tear in the axel cover. I am outraged and would have been ripped off of $600 had I not gone somewhere else. The manager gave me the lame excuse that the axel quality they offer was higher. Really??? I spoke with Mike this morning and informed him I took it for a second opinion and upon inspection they found a piece of tar that was wrapped around the boot. Upon removal of the tar the boot and axel were in tact. No need for replacement or repair or the $600(yourquote) as compared to $300 in repair it would have cost to fix it. Incredible experience here! Was in this week for auto detailing. Have had issues finding quality car cleaning in Lake Country and didn't want to head into MKE county. Listing of services provided clearly on website. Called to book appointment and was given a reasonable quote so I set it up. They asked me about potential issues that could cause up charge (per hair, vomit, etc) and looked at the car to confirm no upcharges would happen. They were very transparent about that which I appreciated. Needed a ride home which they provided at no charge- even offered to pick me up when it was ready. Within 20 minutes, Shawn, The Tow Man, arrived. I told him the car wouldn't start, but he asked anyway if he could try starting it. I couldn't believe my car started when he tried it!! I didn't need it to be towed after all, but thought I would still have to pay for the service call. When I asked how much I owed, Shawn told me I didn't owe anything, and not to worry about it. The cop dispatched towing and like a blink of an eye Israel was there. He greeted me warmly and when I couldn't get a hold of my husband he offered to take me along to drop me off at the repair shop... he said he'd have dropped me off at home too. This is the 2nd time I've used Silverlake Auto Oconomowoc location with this job being a much bigger one than the first. I had struts & springs, wheel barring, full oil change & rear sway bars replaced. From the time I met with Amanda (sales specialist) to the time I picked up my Land Rover she was very informational & let me know what was priority, she called me with questions etc & in general was great to work with! All their staff are professional & very courteous. I picked up my Land Rover & it honestly drives better than when I first bought it handling bumps like a brand new vehicle & they cleaned the inside for me..it was a mess from camping on a rainy weekend 2 weeks prior so that was very sweet! Their prices some might say are a little high but in my opinion as in any industry you get what you pay for, they back their work & parts with a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty, haven't come across anyone else in the area with that kind of warranty. Another amazing bonus is they always offer a free loaner which typically costs $30-40 a day to rent from a rental company. The overall experience I had was the best I've encountered, I have more work that will need to be done soon & I know I'll be bringing it back to them. My husband and I love Silver Lake Auto. They're extremely accommodating, fair priced, and they can even service our Prius (they recently announced the ability to recondition hybrid motors as well). They are also a local UHaul location, and they're much more easy to work with on rentals than UHaul retail locations I've used. We took our car in for a quick tire repair today, and I walked out down only $25 with a bag of chocolate chip cookies. Great place, great service...and they can do your emissions test as well! I highly recommend this shop. The folks here a friendly, and professional. My vehicle malfunctioned on the interstate and needed to be towed in. They offered all the services I needed under one roof. This meant I only had to deal with one business. They made the repairs quickly and returned the vehicle the same day. They made only the repairs required and did not try to push additional repairs. They did do a check of some additional items and informed me as such but did not at any time tell me it had to be done. Had my van towed there after hours when it cranked but didn't start. They jumped on it early am. Good. Was told beforehand that it would be $138 to diagnose the problem. Understood, not a problem. Called with the diagnosis and price. $742 to replace plugs, wire kit, rotor, and cap. Thought it was high, but what can one do at that point. Also, needed to change the oil. $42. I also thought the $138 was included in the $742. BIG MISTAKE! So, my tune-up and oil change ended up costing almost $1000. Gave them a thumbs down when they texted asking for a review. Was called almost immediately by Jim. Told him I was happy with the work but thought it was priced really high. He mentioned that it's a lot of labor to work on a van as you have to remove the engine cover. Wouldn't that have been done during the $138 diagnosis? They also did not itemize parts/labor. Invoice states they used premium parts. Looking online for the items replaced and using the high ticket items, I came up with about $157 for parts, which means labor was $585 for basically a tune-up. Yes, the van runs good. They did take care of me...in more ways than one. read more

Get a second opinion. About 9 months ago I brought my car in for an oil change. As part of the oil change they offer an inspection. They called me to say I needed new rear brake pads and rotors. I thought the price they quoted was high and I didn't notice any brake squeaking so I told them I'd wait on it. Well, I just took my car into the dealership this weekend and they said that my rear brakes still have plenty of life left in them. They guessed I might be able to get another 30k out of them if I keep driving as I have so far. Silver lake provides good service, but I strongly recommend getting a second opinion before shelling out hundreds of dollars (or more) for service you weren't expecting. read more

So here's the situation: back in start of the year, my clutch catastrophically failed. It was bad, but they got me in, towed it there and gave me a loaner at no additional cost. But after a bit research over the last several months, I've learned what they charged me was about $400 over fair market value, were going to charge me about $2300 to do a clutch rep, when most other places charge $1900 for the same vehicle. After speaking with Mike (technician) I was able to get my vehicle in and have an accurate and honest inspection conducted. He gave it to me straight and identified all the discrepancies. The engine required a complete overhaul, and even though I did not have the repair work conducted, I am confident Mike and his staff would have completed it without fail.
