This bakery is so cute and tucked away in a little neighborhood in Providence. We were excited to come here because of the reviews. Once we entered the business, we were greeted by a young lady behind the counter. She gave us "I don't want to help you" kinda vibes. She had no words to say to us other than "hi" and the total amount we owed. Once we ordered, the girl was far more engaged with the gentleman that came in after us. I ordered a hotcoco and a few desserts. And the girl seemed really bothered when I inquired about the types of milks they offered. I ordered a hot coco with almond milk. When it was ready, the girl put my drink on the counter, gave us a face and walked away. I am giving this business four stars, because the desserts we ordered were very good. But the service, could be way better than this, very disappointing.

Food of the gods - Pasteis de Nata (Portuguese custard tart)

This wonderful Portuguese Bakery in the Fox Point neighborhood of Providence has been a staple in the community for so many years. We lived down the street from Silver Star 25 years ago, and loved it then, and we now drive there because it's just that good. I highly recommend their sweet bread - so light, airy, and delicious! Their Portuguese rolls are also outstanding. However, the gold star goes to their Pasteis de Nata, Portuguese custard tarts with a flaky pastry shell and a rich creamy center. Silver Star offers some of the best Pasteis de Nata around at a very reasonable price. Also noteworthy is that you can buy cheese from the Azorean island of Sao Jorge here as well as Azorean butter. Try them both along with the baked goods and the rice puddling- You won't be disappointed!

Fantastic pasteis de nata, great tres leches .great old school bakery! Awesome service! Good espresso and a charming window seating.

My family has been coming here for years for their Portuguese sweet bread, and I've been dying to try it. Up until recently, I couldn't eat gluten. Now that I can, I had the pleasure of trying it for the first time! I loved it! It was delicious, and the texture was like challah, which is a bread that is traditionally eaten during the Jewish holidays, but it tasted sweeter. It's great as a sandwich and as a snack in the car. I can definitely tell that this bread is what Silver Star Bakery is famous for. Next year when I head back to Provincetown with my family, I hope we can stop by Providence along the way because I would love to get more. I don't know how I've been missing out on this bread.

    The bakery location outside.

From the very first moment I walked in I didn't feel welcomed. We began looking at the displays and there was only 2 or 3 things that caught my attention; a cannoli, bean tart and a triangle shaped pasterie, none of which were any good. We then ordered an espresso shot and an iced cappuccino which turned out worse than the food itself. My espresso shot was burned and full of coffee powder in the bottom, and the cappuccino was 95% cream, it was white. Overall I had a really bad experience here and probably won't go back.

First time here, I tried the Tiramisu and it's was SO GOOD. I almost went back inside for another one. I love tiramisu, but finding a good one is hard, and this is fantastic!

Pastais de nata, no nut brownie, & birthday cake macaron

I stopped in on a weekday afternoon and they still had a pretty good selection of tasty treats. I ordered a pastais de nata, brownie, birthday cake and strawberry cheesecake macaron. The strawberry cheesecake isn't pictured because it did not survive the trip home. Everything was very tasty and all totaled a reasonable price of $10.

When you walk in, you'll see there are a variety of desserts for you to choose from. I heard their classic Portuguese egg tarts were really good, so I wanted to try them. I purchased 2 queijadas de nata (classic Portuguese egg tart), 2 queijadas de leite, 2 queijadas de coco, and 1 queijada de feijão (bean egg tart). Each was $1.75 each. The server was friendly and took her time explaining the different egg tarts. She said the bean was her favorite so I wanted to try 1 of them. To be honest, it was my least favorite. lol. sorry. I liked the fluffiness and crunchiness of the classic. The coco was a little dry. It's worth a try, but I would stick to the classic.

really really wanted some egg tarts in the worst way possible and this place was open later than most bakeries and had the goods and there was so many more things to choose from we only tried one other thing besides egg tarts this time because i was getting anxiety about how much i was spending but we got 3 egg tarts and whatever the other goodie was it was like a donut with cream and a cherry on top began with a "p" and it was under $10!!! with prices like that i will make this my permanent egg tart spot

We came here upon a visit because it had high ratings. This place did not disappoint. The woman who helped us was very friendly and nice. I tried to speak a tiny bit of Portuguese. She was able to set me up with authentic desserts for my aunt who's from Portugal. They were delicious. We all enjoyed them. Very happy we stopped here to try out their yummy treats.

We were walking around in the area and decided to stop into this Portuguese bakery for some egg tarts and queijadas. Everything we tried was good, but wish it was a bit less sweet.

Was super excited to try this place based on the reviews and because I love Portuguese egg tarts!!! So we went a bit out of our way so I could pick some up on our short trip in Rhode Island. The desserts were all great!! But the service was TERRIBLE. The girl was extremely rude. I was curious to ask about two desserts and all she said was... milk (for dessert made with milk) and bean (for the dessert made with beans). If there aren't labels to it, maybe it would be best to have a menu? I would love to know what are in desserts especially due to allergies. Honestly me and my friends wanted to buy 4-5 dozen pastries to bring back home to New York City but with the attitude she gave us, I decided that we shouldn't.

Delicious and many different items to choose from! I stopped by because of how tasty everything looked

I ordered an apple tart and a small piece was $7.50! Yes, it was good, and the cream was wonderful, but paying about $2 per bite is outrageous. The value of their drinks might be a little better. The volume of liquid wasn't too low. $4.25 I would give it 3 stars, but I know not everyone is good with money and many are willing to pay these prices on the east side Providence. There was a great selection of fresh artisan breads to choose from. I ended up with the durum loaf, which was perfect since I planned to make an olive oil dipping sauce. The bread was exactly what I hoped for crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, airy with a mix of large and small holes, and full of flavor. I also couldn't resist picking up two Valentine heart sugar cookies with jam because they were just too cute. The only minor downside was that the employee who helped me wasn't very smiley. Not rude at all, and my order was handled quickly, but it felt a bit different from the warm cafe vibe you might expect. Prices are higher than if you went to a mom and pop bakery but this was expected. Overall, a great stop for quality bread.

I called LaSalle Bakery first to ask if they had blank cakes & the ability to customize them quickly & they said yes. So I headed over to LaSalle on Smith Street. When I arrived (at around 2 PM) it was so busy! The line was long, the tables were full, & it was very noisy. The staff seemed very young to me, but they were working with such professionalism & efficiency, it made them appear older. When I reached the front of the line, the young man talked me through the cake options very kindly & thoroughly, not allowing the potential stress of the long line behind me get to him. The cake options were varied & fun. The difference between a medium cake & a large cake was only a matter of $5 ($45 vs. $50) so I of course opted for the larger cake. It provided more room for the message I wanted to request, also. A different staff member took my cake to the back to customize it. I caught glimpses of her hard at work from where I stood waiting. It took her about 5-8 minutes to customize the cake, & when she returned, I was so impressed with her handiwork. She squeezed a very long message into a relatively small space & the script was still beautiful! I couldn't eat the cake because I'm gluten intolerant, LOL! But it was a great hit at my party & the people that I shouted out in the writing on top were thrilled with the result. I would definitely return for a customized cake again in the future.
