    Peanut butter brownie
    Cara P.

Taunton Ave Bakery is a local Portuguese bakery located in East Providence. I visited for lunch with my husband and the first impression was a good one! The bakery case was full of tasty looking treats, and the flow of customers was constant. The atmosphere was really positive and welcoming with workers and customers speaking Portuguese in an exchange of friendly conversation. It had that close-knit community feel. Upon the recommendation of the employee who helped us, we both ordered their Cacoila sandwich, which was described as a Portuguese pulled pork sandwich. It was quickly prepared and handed to us as a dine-in order. This sandwich was around $5 and made for a great easy lunch option. It wasn't loaded, but there was still enough meat to leave me feeling satisfied. I also had some red peppers added to it and those were scrumptious. They were a little vinegary and added a nice complement of flavor and texture. I do wish there were more of those! The pork itself was very tasty and seasoned well, but it was a bit dry, and the bun was fresh and fluffy. We also treated ourselves to a peanut butter brownie to share, and this was also good. It had a nice fudgy texture and was very moist. However, the cocoa and peanut butter flavors were not as pronounced as I had hoped. They were rather muted. But, it was still enjoyable and I liked the crunchy peanut bits on top. I'm glad we stumbled across this spot and I'd like to stop by again!

    Chourico & pepper sandwich

Came to try the Bifana sandwich as part of RI Food Fights Best Sandwich competition, but they were sold out and offered us the chourico & pepper sandwich instead. Let me just say that it was amazing! The chourico was flavorful without being overly spicy, and the peppers & onions were perfect. Best of all was the fresh Portuguese roll, which soaked up the sauce from the chourico and was so delicious. While we were there, we definitely needed to pick up some sweets. Taunton Ave Bakery's pastel de nata (custard tarts) are the best I've ever had, so we picked up a few to take home. Also got some sweet rice pudding topped with cinnamon and that is to die for as well. Love this bakery so much!

They made a unicorn pull apart cake for my baby's 1st birthday party. It came out amazing! Looked great and tasted so good! When I placed the order the baker came to the front to look at pictures and promised he could make the vision come true. Highly recommend.

    Cacoila with red peppers

Stopped in for #RIFoodFights #BestSandwichRI. I grabbed an apple stick and cacoila sandwich with red peppers. I have had quite a few cacoila sandwiches in my day, but this one took me by surprise... The woman behind the counter recommended the pulled pork over the pork loin, and I am happy she did. I was looking for a quick grab on my way east. I will return to try the loin next visit. The sandwich was spicy, moist, sweet peppers added a nice touch, not sloppy, and a fresh roll... can't ask door more on this simple delight. I liked the atmosphere of this quaint bakery with a few warm food options, elegant pastries, and coffee... I almost bought a donut as my mouth was watering looking at them by the register, and Portuguese food in the fridge, I wish I was driving home instead of to start my day.

Popo-secos and caçoila!! I could eat this every day. Brings back lots of fond memories from when I would attend many of the Portuguese Feasts held around the area each summer. I now live in Texas and nothing compares to the depth of flavor you get from a simple sandwich. I try and stop in at Taunton Ave Bakery just for this when I'm back in Town

    Chocolate eclair

I was searching for a sweet snack around Providence and came across Taunton Avenue Bakery. Upon arrival, there were already about six people inside the store, so we did have to wait outside for a bit until they cleared out (there is a max # of people allowed inside at once). There were all sorts of goodies to choose from. I decided to try the chocolate eclair, palmier, raspberry twist, and cinnamon twist. To be completely honest, the pastries were extremely lackluster. The cream inside of the eclair was tasty, however, the chocolate exterior tasted artificial; like that sickly sweet chocolate flavor. The palmier and twists were probably some of the driest pastries I've ever eaten. I'm talking so dry I couldn't even get past a few bites. I want to give Taunton Avenue Bakery the benefit of the doubt. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things at the wrong time! I expected to try their Pasteis de Nata, but they ran out of the original flavor by the time I visited. The workers were very kind and the pastries were pretty affordable but unfortunately, there isn't one thing that I'd go back for.

I love this place and I really like their location since they moved. There's much more parking here around and in back so it's much more convenient. Service is always excellent here and they're big products of just terrific. I'm always impressed that they have young people working here but they are bilingual and that is so helpful to a lot of the customers that I see around me. The Portuguese cheese is so good and the bread and the pastry. I stopped here to pick up a goodie for Mike and me and it was worth the trip.

I found the shop tucked away in my old stomping grounds, and when my GPS announced I had arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see it now occupies what used to be a beloved old Italian bakery. There's a small parking lot right next to the well-marked entrance, and their adorable bespectacled cupcake logo makes for a charming first impression. Inside, the space is a nostalgic dream for fans of all things pop culture. The décor spans across countless beloved universes--Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, Harry Potter, Pokémon, Mario, and more. Familiar faces like Batman, Spiderman, Thor, and the Hulk line the walls and shelves, giving the whole place a fun and immersive vibe. But let's talk about the real stars: the baked goods. The display at the entrance is packed with eye-catching treats--cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and beyond. Everything looked just as mouthwatering in person as it did in the photos that initially drew me in. In addition to desserts, they also offer cannoli, cinnamon rolls, brownies, breakfast wraps, sandwiches, bagels, toasts, bowls, and a variety of drinks including coffee, smoothies, and iced options. Since I was there for cupcakes, I picked out three flavors: Mocha Cappuccino, Banana Pudding, and Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana. I only got to try the two banana ones, but both were delicious. The Mocha one smelled heavenly though! A surprise bonus--the cupcakes had fillings, which I wasn't expecting. The frosting-to-cake ratio was perfect, and the cake itself was light and fluffy, yet sturdy enough to hold up the frosting. The owner was super helpful in guiding my selections and genuinely lit up when I asked about the bakery's background and theme. They host themed events too--like an upcoming Star Wars Day breakfast with a buffet, character meet-and-greets, goodie bags, and more. I don't live in the area anymore, so coming back would be a special treat--but I definitely plan to. Getting out of the parking lot was a bit tricky due to the busy nearby intersection, but it wasn't too hard to navigate. A small inconvenience considering everything this place has to offer. Bottom line: this bakery is a delightful, nerdy, sugar-filled gem. A perfect place to treat yourself!

I ordered an apple tart and a small piece was $7.50! Yes, it was good, and the cream was wonderful, but paying about $2 per bite is outrageous. The value of their drinks might be a little better. The volume of liquid wasn't too low. $4.25 I would give it 3 stars, but I know not everyone is good with money and many are willing to pay these prices on the east side Providence.
