I was fortunate enough to be in full view of the kitchen. what impressed me the most was watching your manager Jason work just as hard as everyone else to put out a quality product. I watched that young man roll up the sleeves and do more than he was asking of anyone else! Not only did he have speed but also accuracy and the plates left looking stunning! I used to work for GAR, & I have to say... the service was outstanding here. They showed great team work. They were efficient with their service and timing, and it was a very busy night. Yes, I'm the "family" the fellow below (chris) mentioned. We go here a lot because it's pretty good and it's an American fare OUTPOST in Annandale. I would guess that is why it's mostly ALWAYS busy - which is a good thing. Love most of the dishes they serve and the staff are ALWAYS kewl and polite. The bar selections are a bit limited from Beer to liquor, but I get by :) The reason I give it 4 starts despite my love for this place is they are almost ALWAYS OUT OF PRIME RIB when I order it. On more than several occasions I have actually ordered it and it goes through then the server comes back 10 - 15 mins later saying they are out of it. That is very frustrating considering now that I've ordered it i'm ready to chow it dowwwwn! Anyway, go there and have a great time! read more

Great food, great service, lousy policy. This venue is a not so great american restaurant and as such has an anti gun (aka gun free zone) policy. Stopped in to eat with my son a few times open carrying (it was during the summer) and had no problem. Went there one evening and was told to leave the pistol in the car, took my business elsewhere that night. Called next day to complain about the very anti-American policy. Received call from the manager - told him the should put a big "no guns" sign on the door to keep away patrons that support the 2nd amendment. read more

We both had the drunken ribeye. The sauce was a little overpowering and salty. If we were to ever go back, we would try to get the salt and pepper ribeye (available by request). We also got a side of skinny asparagus (6 Spears), so you may to get an extra side for two people. There were about 5 mushrooms on the steak, so you may want to pay for an extra side. The everything baked potato was great. This is a good neighborhood establishment that may be a step up from Applebee's. This place is at the bottom of the list of the (local) All American Restaurants that we've dined at so far. read more

This restaurant is always consistent with service and food. Call ahead offered for reservations. Nice little bar area and happy hour. Anything on their menu you will like. We ate here so much and enjoyed every meal. But as a wine drinker, they don't pore a large glass. Just enough to wet your lips. 5 stars for food 3 stars for service The food is always awesome. Best fajitas I've ever had (whole table agreed). Chips and salsa is good, but salsa needed some heat - not spicy at all. Ribeye was delish. Rolls and butter plus chop house salad are awesome. I've never had a bad meal at any GAR establishment. Never had sucky service either - until tonight. Waiter forgot a steak knife, took forever for everything, asked for chips and salsa and he forgot - when quizzed he lied and said they were still frying. Took 15 minutes? Nah. Don't think so buddy. Then he told us they were going to be super hot - nope. Just barely warm. Took his good time getting us out check and processing it. He wasn't terrible, but considering he has an entire team to rely on, he was lacking. Overall, it's another check in the win column for GAR. Certified yumo! read more

Fajitas, Fajitas, Fajitas! Silverado is an unexpected restaurant hidden in Annandale. While their service can sometimes be hit or miss, their food is great. If you go only once, get their fajitas (steak and portobella mushroom with cheese and guac) and a sangria. You will not be disappointed. Their prices are reasonable and their portions are large. It's a very friendly atmosphere, and much more suburban than most other Great American Restaurant locations. read more

Silverado: I've eaten here--or at one of the Great American Restaurants--probably about a dozen times. Things I like: 1) Atmosphere. The lights are dim, but not so dim you can't read if your flying solo. I also love the small booths. If you're a solo diner, like I often am, it sucks to be at a table meant for four when the place is full and here you are hogging three extra seats. 2) Service. The servers are genuinely friendly (not the faux Chick-fil-la, "it's our pleasure" when really they mean "will you hurry the f*ck up"). I've always had good service, which for me means: attentive without hovering. 3) Food. I'm sure there are some misses here, because there are always misses. And if we're being totally frank, I don't love the salsa, but that's because I can make better at home. Which is not a slam. I learned how to make salsa (and guac and margaritas in Dallas, also I'm good obsessed and work on recipes til they're perfect.) However, the food is good, it's worthy of a "I gotta figure out how to recreate this at home" status (which is only surpassed by "there's no way I could ever recreate something this amazing"). I like, in no particular order: the Monterey salad (okay, I lied, this is my favorite), the fajitas (only have had the chicken, but they're so juicy and flavorful--and the guacs not bad!), the chicken tenders, the hot spinach dip, and the chocolate waffle. There are probably other good dishes. I tend to get stuck in a rut when it comes to my regular restaurants though. 4) The margaritas are good. And I say this as someone who had their first margarita (and this first taste of tequila) in Dallas. That might be a pro or con for you, but I literally thought of TX tonight when I took my first sip. Things I dislike: 1) No "real" happy hour (I don't count this silly Cheap Monday Thrills or the reduced prices on food between 4-5:30. Who are they catering too? Not young professionals for sure. 2) The weird murals. 3) The salsa--sort of--see above. 4) The price. Which admittedly, isn't their fault that good-mid-range food is this pricey in the DMV. But seriously, when I can spend a weekend in NYC, one of (if not the most) city to live in and dine out in and not blink an eye at the prices, there is an issue. We went here as a celebration of my cousin getting her first paycheck. We were met with service almost as soon as we were seated at a booth. The waitress was super polite and friendly and also very accommodating because my sister's a vegan. We ordered Tex-Mex egg rolls, Firecracker Shrimp, Grilled ABF Chicken & Havarti Sandwich, and a Portobello Fajita (pictures attached). The waitress was constantly checking in on us, but not so much that it was annoying. She was always refilling our drinks and our bread and chips and salsa. Overall, it was a great experience and the bill was $60 with tips which was reasonable, I suppose. We had a lot of leftovers and the waitress insisted on us taking some salsa home. Family came here on a busy Friday for dinner. We called ahead so that our wait would be minimal. We arrived at the place and still we waited for at least 30 mins. We are used to the quality of food at Mike's so we were expecting the same quality if not more. The steak that we got had so much fat that we only ate half. Salad had less portion than Mike's. The waitress that served us were busy taking care of the neighboring tables. She did not pay that much attention to our table. This is our first and last time at this place. Wow! Great food and exceptional service. With a two-year old and her parents, we were a party of five. Place was crowded, but we were seated very quickly. Server made sure to serve up the quesadilla app fast for the toddler, who gobbled up most of it. We were checked on often during our stay and our beverages were always full. I can't say I've had a better filet mignon, and the basil mashed red potatoes were tasty. Jumbo fajita was plenty for two, and the hickory burger was also great. Unfortunately no room for dessert, but the white chocolate bread pudding was very tempting. read more

Second time at Silverado. First time for dinner. Started at the bar. My beer glass felt sticky on the outside. We ordered ribs and prime rib. I got a green salad with about 100 cranberries in it. I had to pick most of them out. Minus that, it was a delicious salad. The lobster bisque was tasty. The chips with the spinach dip were undercooked and salty. Undercooking chips makes them seem almost stale. The ribs were unbelievably good. The cole slaw and mashed potatoes were delicious. The prime rib was very, very difficult to cut. Much of the fat was not rendered at all. Just hard, cold beef fat. I like the fattiness of prime rib, but this was not the way I like it. Might just be a preference thing. The service was okay. I had the same waiter as my first time, and I generously tipped then. I still tipped well, but since he left us for about 20 minutes with no sightings, I did dock him a bit. I wouldn't want to sit in his station again. I don't like being left with dirty plates, waiting on a check for so long. It really ruins the whole experience. He acted like nothing had happened. Fess up. You forgot us for 20 whole minutes. It happens. Just apologize, and we can all move on. So all in all, I think Silverado will be our neighborhood rib joint for sure. **Update: Spoke with the manager. He was extremely kind and wanted to know how to improve. This is always my go to place. I've never had a bad waiter and I rarely have problems with my food. Also, one thing u might not know is that you can order BOTH chips and bread for free. Usually by the time my food comes, I'm already full from all of the chips and bread. Also, my favorite dessert is here and it's the white chocolate bread pudding. If you love caramel and ice cream than you'll love it too. This is a great place to go to if you're in the mood for some steak. I have been coming here since I was in high school. The service and food is always top notch! They are very consistent and you know what you're gonna get. I don't think I've had a dish I have not like here. I would list all my favorites, but I'm pretty sure that would be their entire menu. This place is awesome. The food is awesome. The service is awesome. If you want a good steak, this is the place. Their champagne vinaigrette on the house salad is excellent. The grilled salmon and the havarti chicken sandwich and the fajitas are all excellent. They have a flourless chocolate waffle with ice cream that is very very good. It's filled with fudge or chocolate. I don't think we've ordered anything from here that wasn't superb. Oh, and the free bread at the beginning backed at their off site bakery. The whole chain of Great American restaurants rocks. We go here ALL THE TIME. At least once every couple of weeks. In 8 years, we've only ever gotten one steak cooked wrong and they fixed it free. (as they should). No arguments. Last time we went, the A/C was blowing right on us so they turned it down. You never have to wait. They have separate waiters and food runners. Food comes hot. ALWAYS do call ahead. This place is EXTREMELY popular and always packed. Call ahead can save you a ton of time. The only bad for me is the beer selection. They have no dark beers except stout. read more

Silverado's is simply the best place to dine in Northern VA. I have been eating there three to four times per week for about four years now and the food is consistently is incredibly wonderful, the service very good, and the bathrooms clean. I recommend the fresh fish of the day or the tender sirloin "tips" but beforehand you get to feast on the grilled salsa and warm chips. The Ozzie rolls are to die for so give them a try as well. I ordered a Cheddar burger with sauteed onions and I asked for well done. Normally I like to eat my sandwich with my hands, no fork and knife but when I took the first bite my sandwich began to disintegrate. The meet was not well done, there was a hint of pink in it. The bun was soft and fell apart which prompted my to finish my food with a fork and knife. My server which was the bartender didn't ask me once how my food was. It cost me $18.00 including the tip. This was the worst burger I've ever had, heck, any Whopper which costs a fraction of that would've been better. I love other Great American Restaurants such as Carlyle and Sweetwaters, but Silverado....Nah Update; Shortly after I posted my experience at Silverado I received a message asking if I would accept a call from one of the managers to go over my experience which I accepted with admiration. Dave, one of the managers apologized that my experience wasn't positive, and extended a kind offer which I declined citing that his call was more than enough. Not good for vegetarians. I ordered the portobello fajitas which were $17-$18. Thankfully, the waitress warned me that most items that come with the fajitas are not vegetarian. This includes the rice and beans. She did let me sub the sides for something else which was kind. But honestly I wanted the fajitas and the normal size. Well, shortly after writing the review for Silverado, I received a call from Silverado's manager and she was very very concerned with why we were unhappy with the service received compared to other GAR restaurants. Understanding that we're well versed in GARs standard she understandably wanted more background and details and I provided all of those to her. I also mentioned we've seen where restaurants have off nights but that this was a bit more than an off night. We were invited to come back to Silverado to have a better experience with a gift certificate. That was about 3 months ago. We've actually gone back twice since that time and I've purposely held off on writing my review to see if there were any changes based off of our last experience. The first time we used a gift card that the manager was so nice to provide us with based off of our experience and we were pleased with the service. We were asked about our night, how we were doing, regular pleasantries etc which I find nice to have. We were provided with Ozzie rolls as I requested and they were piping hot. Those were the types of rolls I was expecting the first time. We also changed it up and didn't order the fajitas and instead my husband got his normal, go to chicken fingers (lol) while I got the Louisana Pasta (it's called different things at different places and I can't remember the exact name for Silverado but that's what it's called at Sweetwater). Both of our meals were piping hot and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We decided to instead get dessert (which is a rarity for my husband) and that was served quickly while we were asked if everything was okay. We had no problems the first time we went out. The second time we went was the exact same as far as the standard of service and this time we got a young guy (he was sooo cute - I'm sure he hates getting that and women like me like awwww...but he was sooo cuuute) who was getting into the swing of things and he didn't ask if we wanted rolls or any appetizers to start off but hey, I told the guy and he was really sweet. No harm, no foul, it was fine. In all fairness they were swamped with customers and even one of the managers even came by and told us our food would take a little longer due to the sheer volume of people. That was perfectly fine for us because I knew I could finish my tex mex rolls and not have to have my dinner presented right after. Based off the experiences I've seen Silverado make some changes and it's really proving to be worthwhile in my opinion. Although, you may have bad reviews, unfortunately in the resto business (one of the hardest, if not THE hardest industry) it's the only way you can get better. People have to be clear about what works and what doesn't work as the margin for error is a lot smaller and I'm sure each of the GAR restaurants have their own targets they have to meet individually. If training improvements were made I'm happy that is the case because I have seen a change in service and quality and that makes so much of a difference especially since they're a 10 minute drive for me (if that). 3 months has made quite a difference in our minds based upon our first encounter with Silverado back in July. Hubs and I hit up Silverado's for a Saturday night dinner. He wanted steak, I was up for a burger. We started with drinks - my Moscow mule was fair. The ginger beer felt a bit flat. Silverado Lager was fine according to Hubs. Bartender was super friendly and wait staff was fine. Dinner was just ok: Burger was pretty darn good... but I feel like it's hard to mess up a burger if you start with some decent beef. And $13 price was fine. The steak on the other hand was just ok. And for $30, we were expecting better. Bottom line - I don't think we'll go back. read more

My partner and I split a regular order of the chicken fajitas and it is more than enough, well, along with the great chips and salsa. My favorite of the Great American restaurants. The food is terrific. It's just a bit less expensive than Sweetwater Tavern. The Prime Rib is terrific, the Fajitas are delightful, the Crab Cakes consistently terrific, the service is great, and the Ozzie roles are spectacular. The one downside is that they don't have the Root Beer that Sweetwater has. We especially like one of our consistent servers: Bob, though I have no idea what his last name is. read more
