Awesome craft brewery in Virgil, Ontario. Just happened up on it on our way to Niagara-On-The-Lake. It's located in an interesting old Church and finished out perfectly. My wife and I started with a flight but settled on the Black Lager and Dam Buster English Ale as our favorites. Everything is reasonably priced and there is a nice food menu to accompany the beverages. Staff were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. Right down the road from Oast is Silversmith!! I not Catholic or Christian so I haven't spent much time in churches, however this place was ADORABLE. From their sign out front, to the architecture inside. It's hard to see the brewery from the restaurant/drink side. Although it was an add on, it's lost among all the other details of the establishments. We got a fight of 5 brews for around $11 bucks. their brews are more Belgian, while I prefer mine super american and super hoppy. There was a popup restaurant there when we were there and they made a menu just for the brews. The oysters were also local. Great place, great beer. Ps: come early or you won't get a seat. it's apparently very busy during food time. read more

This place has one of the coolest atmospheres, ever. I'd never heard of or been to any restaurant/bar/brewery/whatever in an old church and Silversmith absolutely nailed it. Between the stained glass window, the pew seating, and the chalkboards fit to look like church windows, the inside is gorgeous. Super friendly service, and great prices too. You can get a flight of 4 for $8. There is a very small kitchen run by a different company, Mason, that offers small bites to eat. The menu was a bit limited (naturally), but the options seemed a little bit too "out-there." I ordered chicken wings that came with the wing and leg still attached together, which was a bit annoying, and their three sauce options were nowhere even near buffalo sauce. Alas, the food was good, I just had a few minor complaints. Plus, the food is separate from Silversmith Brewing anyway, which is why it is a 5-star from me! So I fell in love with this place the moment I saw it. It's a microbrewery in an old church so the entire place is absolutely beautiful. The beers are also fantastic. I'm usually not a fan of dark beers but the funzover dunkel won me over. It's not a heavy beer and it had a chocolatey hints. So good! I got a growler! :) The staff is also super nice. If I lived closer, that would be my bar. :) I absolutely recommend this place. I can't wait to go back! read more

We were up for the weekend last December and did the tourist drive around thing and for "research" I came to try some beers. All the beers were really good. The building was amazing. The environment made this place! It is a restored church that ironically now brews their own beer and serves the best bar food! And bar food is an insult because WOW! I had the opportunity to try flights in order to try all of their beer - it was real good, only thing I am a hoppy girl and I wish they were stronger but after a longs day or week of work this is definitely the place I see myself at to destress. The beers are delicious and food even better. The vibes are awesome where everyone seems to know one another and I am sure there are a lot of locals / regulars. I also had their goat cheese ricotta dip with this delicious hard bread which reminded me of Cuban bread back home (Miami). Finger licking good! And I am not even kidding, I used my finger to scrape off what was left! Haha! No shame! No food ever goes wasted with me. A must go to, a must stop if ever you are in Niagara on The Lake. In the middle of wine country we were not expecting an awesome brewery. Recommended by a bartender at one of the plentiful tourist traps by the Falls, my wife and I headed out to the lake. Although we had just missed closing, we were welcomed in and allowed to take our time. For those who like a hoppy beer, I highly recommend the Irish Red. Props to Fergie for providing the history of the church-now-brewery and showing off the groovy growler bottler which promises to keep my wife's wheat beer fresh for weeks ( as if it will last that long). read more

I've been dwelling on writing this review all week. I'd heard such good things about this place before coming, I think the hype set my expectations a little too high. Let's get one thing out of the way... The building this place is located in is beautiful and brings really nice first impressions. It's in a re-purposed ivy covered church with cathedral ceilings, stained glass, and even a church pew along the main wall. It's really cute and quaint. There is also a small patio along the side of the parking lot. For the charm of the exterior and interior design alone, it's probably worth stopping in to the place. In our case, we decided to sit at the bar when we stopped in as most table seating was occupied. Now that we have the surroundings out of the way, lets get down to what counts... THE BEER! After all if its a brewery, we should be mostly worried about what they actually brew right? They offer 4 mainstay beers and then a couple occasional seasonal beers. When I came, all the seasonal options were sold out so we were relegated to sticking with their regular brands comprising of: -a wheat beer (5.2% / 16 IBU) -a black lager (5% / 10 IBU) -a golden ale (4% / 15 IBU) -an English brown pale ale (5% / 30 IBU) Pints are $6.25 + tax, and a flight of 4 samples is $8 + tax if memory serves correct. The thing is that while each of their beers had uniqueness to them, none really impressed. The golden ale was my favourite as it had the most rounded flavour. The wheat beer was nice but I'm admittedly not the hugest fan of wheat beers in general. The black lager was overwhelming in coffee notes and almost more akin to a porter in flavour, and the brown ale just left me bored even despite me expecting to like it most since it had the highest IBU. Food on offer is run by a contract kitchen by Tide & Vine Oyster Bar. The "hop crusted" chicken wings were cooler in theory than in flavour execution. The po'boy sandwich was more impressive. The mac and cheese was a sad little bowl for its price. Sitting at the bar, I rarely feel the need to comment on service... But when we visited they seemed surprisingly well staffed yet even sitting at the bar it seemed like a challenge to get anyones attention. Usually sitting at a bar makes it easy to get served efficiently, but between the times of sitting there with empty glasses as staff just walked on by without eye contact or acknowledging you, or struggling to get anyone to do anything as simple as getting extra napkins, or having to ask one person for the bill and a different person for a credit terminal, all while watching the staff chat with each other or their friends at the bar, I was reaching my wits end by the time we left. Overall, I'm glad I got to cross this place off my list, but when I don't actually buy anything from the bottle shop before leaving, this is not a strong vote towards the quality of their beer. Throw in the scattered service level, and even a great building like this place has can't help this place get a 4th star from me. read more

Of all the breweries I've ever been to, Silversmith has been the most beautiful and most unique. They're located in a renovated church and the styling and branding is top notch. Their selection of beers is very limited at 4 options but they are all very good. Pints are $6.25 ($5 USD) and they do have a small but delicious looking menu. The quality, service, and atmosphere adds up to a great experience. They even have events and live bands here on a regular basis. It would have been nice to have some sort of outdoor space, games, or a larger beer selection but otherwise Silversmith was one of the highlights of our Niagara trip. read more

I visited here with my family while shopping and camping in Niagara. The beer is delicious and the service is good. No joke the food is the smallest food I have ever see !! You need like 5 orders of wings to be full! Every dish is SMALLER than appetizer size!! You need to order multiple dishes or quantities to be full!! The kitchen is super tiny and the wait times are long for food. I would definitely come back for beer, but definitely find somewhere else for food! read more

My wife took me here for for my bday lunch and a brewery tour. I was treated like I was a relative. The owner was actually washing windows and stopped to tell us about the history of the brewery. When we first came here five years ago, this was our go to spot and we go here quite often, fill up our growlers etc but based on the past two times we have changed our mind. Especially this past Sunday with the one waiter who purposely overlooked us. We will not be back. We as locals know it will be busy, we can accommodate that and we are always obliging to that fact in practicing patience. The place was busy, we were able to get a seat but it took 10 mins before we even got a menu, and that was given by a guy working the patio who muttered sorry about the wait (he never came back to check by the way) but after we got the menu, another 10 mins to flag someone down. This guy who walked back and forth serval times, checking all the other tables glazed eyes over us every single time and proceeded to ignore. I called ''Excuse me'' as he went by, again I think the sixth time now. He ignored me, went to the table beside to shoot the breeze and then came looked back after the conversation was done saying ''what's up'' . Are you kidding me in my head but I said we want to order a lunch and he said ''what do you want'' and nothing about the place or about the specials. The menu stayed on the table and not once was it picked up. I don't know who this guy is but he was incredibly rude with us and seemed to be ok with everyone around him so I don't know what we did but we shouldn't have to worry about that. It was very unwelcoming and normally I would of said something but the girl who came on finished the job, picked up the pieces and I wouldn't want to say something then as it was not her at all. But based on this guy, who seemed somewhat in charge because he certainly had the one guy moving his butt all over the place I will not go back nor will I recommend this place. The past two times the servers were mediocre, this time the guy was unreal. I miss the guy that used to work here and the staff from a couple years back because this years workers are just that. read more

Love it! After a long day of drinking wine, it's nice to change it up a little and grab a refreshing pint of beer. They do flights for tasting, or order a pint and hang out in their microbrew pub atmosphere. We were there last weekend and they had great live music. Their black stout is the best! Also most of the wineries tend to close around 5 or 6pm, but Silversmith is open later. So keep the party going at Silversmith! It's a great hidden gem, tell all your friends. read more

Beyond expectations. Silversmith is a must stop if you are ever in the Niagara-on-the-Lake area. We started off with Silversmith Beer flights all of which were fantastic. I loved the Bavarian Breakfast Wheat and the Black Lager. We bought two large bottles of the Wheat on the way out because we just couldn't get enough! We also ordered the sausages with a side of coleslaw, which were absolutely mind blowing. The sausages were juicy and flavourful, the sauerkraut and mustard were banging with taste, and the coleslaw made for a perfect addition. Simply yet expertly done. All very reasonably priced as well given the quality. The staff were also very attentive and friendly. Will definitely return! read more
