Sadly this restaurant was a serious disappointment. We got seated and waited over 15 minutes for the waitress to come take our drink order (and the restaurant was far from busy). She was nice enough but not attentive at all. We ordered the warm brie and mushrooms, a caesar salad, gnocchi and the special which was halibut. Everything was incredibly bland and subpar. I sent my dish back because the gnocchi was doughy and tasteless and for 16 bucks I had hoped for much better. The halibut was bland as well and not nearly worth the 32 bucks it cost. So delicious! We stopped in on a Friday night and were able to get a table right away. Both the drinks and food were delicious; we had the Winter Salad to start (which is huge, easily sharable), the Fish and Chips, and the Shrimp Scampi. So, I admit, my wife and I are total "foodies." Stuck up and extremely particular. I am that guy who goes back to the kitchen with food in hand and asks for it to be redone. To be honest, most of the time when I head to a new place, I have an initial anxiety, you know what I mean! A question that sits in the back of your head that say's "is this place gonna suck?...Am I gonna regret this?" You head into a town that boasts, "best coffee in the world," and then you taste it and wish you were never born! What a waste. Well, I am a bit of a fish and chips snob too. I have gone into locations like Scandinavia, Europe, the American and Canadian coasts, South America, Middle East, you name it...and have walked into a place "the locals" said was the best, and left disappointed. How could anyone say that the fish and chips at 'such and such' a place are the best, when they are tender in the very middle yet burned and dry on the edges? I have journeyed far and wide via yelp and other foodie reviewers to find that my standards were just not met. Yup, I am that f*ing picky about money I spend on food. "ENTER SILVERWATER"...I really did not have high hopes here, and this time I left absolutely in awe, amazed! I finally found a gem! This place gets the BEST FISH AND CHIPS I HAVE EVER HAD award! Tender and juicy, perfectly cooked, not a single dry spot in the fish at all, beautiful and tasty breading which was not too thick (you know like the places who give you the same amount of fish in sushi, and then cover it with 100,000 ounces of crispy breading)! Absolutely great. Chips were great as well. I cannot speak for the other food, but this place will be my favorite until it is bested. Not any time soon! read more

Just had the best dinner and service in Port Townsend in the 3 years we have been here! Our experiences in PT have been consistently less than optimal - in food service and quality. But our recent meal at Silverwater was a turning point. The meal was fresh, well portioned and reasonably priced. The Chevril Heaven appetizer is exactly that as well as the lamb chops and house salad. And the best service from Jason as he was appropriately attentive, personable and knowledgeable about the menu. We went to Silverwater Cafe for the first time last night. It gets five stars because it was five stars The food was fabulous, the service superb, and the amibiance very pleasant. Two of us ordered the Dungeness Crab Ravoli, and they both said they were probably some of the best they had ever eaten because they were STUFFED with lots of crab. We found out that they make the ravoilis in house so that explains why they were especially good. I had one of the specials for Saturday night. It was soooooo good. It was the Grilled Halibut with succatash. The Halibut was cooked perfectly and the succatash was a wonderful addition with it. The other reason I liked it so much was that it perfect for someone who just likes fish without any sauce to hide the taste of the fish and good fresh vegetables. In other words it was what I considered and Healthy meal. We also started out with two appetizers that were also on the specials for evening. The smoked salmon and artichoke poppers and the golden beets, mozzarella, arugula with walnut pesto. Both were WONDERFUL. Any of these specials would be a good addition to the menu. We are in the area for the summer and we will for sure be back to the Silverwater Cafe. I will recommend to anyone who is visiting Port Townsend. read more

The salads were awesome. The crab and shrimp melt also awesome. But it's getting 3 stars because of the 'crab' burger. The 'crab' burger is some kind of crab cake mixture made up of 20% dungeness crab, 30% cardboard, 50% sawdust. The menu said "dungeness crab", so I do feel like I was tricked. Well, I'll preface by saying I really wanted to like this place. We waited about 20 minutes for a table, which was fine; given the good ratings, I thought it would be worth it. My mussels and clams were just okay; the mussels and clams themselves were good but the broth was WAY too salty. Almost inedible. The kids burger that my son ordered was basically a hockey puck it was so well done. My other son had the kids noodles with sauce and they were literally drowning in sauce there was so much poured in the bowl. My husband had the fish and chips which he found a bone in (!) and found to be greasy and not too flavorful. He also ordered a cup of clam chowder which was very watery and bland. On a positive note, I will say the waitress and host were very friendly and the house salad that I ordered was very good. Will not be returning. read more

After having this restaurant recommended by several locals...and wanting to eat here because the owners are sponsors of the PT film festival... quite disappointed! I guess you have to be a local to receive the friendly good service we would have expected from an upscale restaurant. We felt snubbed by the you hostess... the waitress never did take my drink order and never asked if we wanted a second beverage... and acted out out when I asked the size of the salad since I wanted to order something to go with my pasta. My husband said his sautéed shrimp was not as good as other restaurants we visited in the area. My clam pasta had great flavor... but was gritty with sand. The waitress comped me when we went to pay our bill.., but never asked if I'd like something else ( good thing I ordered that salad). So disappointed!! I will say the staff seemed very friendly with locals and even gave them the seat I requested when they showed up after we'd been seated. We'll be going to other locations for the rest of our stay. read more

Generally and overall a very nice and organized place. We were there on a New Year's Eve and it was packed, but orderly. Wait times were normal, they handled it well. The waitstaff was top drawer, ambience local, causal and comfortable. Food: If you want a Caesar salad, don't order theirs. It is a nice, fresh, clean and sanitized salad. There wasn't an anchovy within two miles of the salad, no ground pepper was offered, and if there was any grated Parmesan on it my hunt missed it. Nice little Italian dressing type of starter; not even close to a good Caesar dressing. I had chicken. It would have been very nice to know that they cooked it with the skin on. All the spices and some lite cream/cheese sauce was on the skin, which I don't eat (fat content), so when I removed the skin I had a properly cooked, tasteless, tender chunk of chicken breast. My wife's Mediterranean Salad was over the top, they got it right. She also had the crab bisque which was very tasty and good and warm. Wine list is simple, but varied and although not my long suit, I would judge that the list was adequate considering the overall tone, and environment of the place. So here are my tests for a restaurant: did the food taste good and was it properly prepared? Was the ambience enjoyable and in line with the menu? Was the staff helpful and courteous? Was the place clean? So except for the disappointing Caesar salad dressing and skin on the chicken (which I should have asked about, true French and Spanish cooking usually leaves the skin) this was a good place, 4 stars. I sure don't know what others ate who rated this place high but my experience was bad start to finish. Went there as it was supposed to be famous for their Fish n Chips...DA! Sat down waited for service, took order , asked for clam chowder first, saw waitress busy with others and finally she looked backed at kitchen as to respond O' better check, came with Chowder which was cool at best and very watery! Next had fried Artichokes, again...Waited, came and were cold! and not cooked well at all! Waited, Waited, finally came with fish, 3 piece one was so small and burnt to a crisp, sent it back the other 2 pieces were tasteless and could barley find any fish in the little bit of batter, the 3 replacement was no better. When asked how was our meal I explained about only the fish, response was O' I will let the kitchen know.....In other words "Tough" Never again! read more

The pepper steak basically sucked. The steak was gristly and lacked flavor. I would highly suggest to Silverwater that they buy their meat from Shorts Farms. I have bought their New York Strips and cooked them at home. The home cooked steak is FAR superior to the Silverwater D+ steak. Silverwater, if you only have one steak on the menu, knock it out of the park ! Charge another $5-$10 if you have to in order to make your steak awesome. My wife and I splurged on a two day vacation and stayed in Port Townsend for Valentine's Day. After trying a couple other restaurants over our weekend, we decided to try Silverwater Cafe. We were not disappointed. My wife ordered the cilantro lime ginger prawns, and I had the duck with cherries. I'm a huge fan of duck, and this dish was excellent. The duck was perfectly cooked, and came with blanched veggies and a phenomenal parmesan risotto. The food was incredibly fresh, and the service was top notch. Additionally, the wine and beer selection was great for a cafe in a small harbor town. I can't believe the negative reviews this place has received. Don't pay them any mind, my wife and I were quite happy with our experience. read more

The atmosphere of the cafe will win over your heart. The food is decently priced and delicious. Next time I'm in Port Townsend, I'm going back! I had the gyro and my sister had the apple butter & ham panini. Both dishes were delicious. They also have a nice selection of loose-leaf teas. Three of us had a very good dinner here in late June, 2012. We had a beet/spinach salad, fish tacos, a lentil burger, and a molten chocolate dessert. The salad was really fresh and flavorful. The fish tacos came unassembled, so you could wrap the taco around your own proportions of ingredients; the fish was blackened, mildly spicy, totally fresh. There was lots of it, too. The dessert was awesome, with a molten chocolate center, surrounded by a decadent chocolate torte. Beer and wine offerings were fine, not extensive, but with some interesting choices. Service was efficient and pleasant. Clientele was a mix of locals and tourists. The bill for three, with 2 beers and a bottle of wine was $140. We would definitely return. Impressed! It happened to be one of the few places open after 9pm on a winter night and I am glad for it! The service was quick and very hospitable (we got a drink almost immediately, which is always key in my books - excellent martini selection, would really recommend). The ambience was excellent and made you glad to be there. We ordered the Crab Cake Burger and the two piece Fish'n'Chips to share. Both exceeded our expectations. Dill batter on the fish really made it stand out from others. Moist crab cake with a crispy outside in a lovely soft bun blew me away. I would go back and I would order it all again!
