I am participating in the Rhode Island Food Fights 9th Annual Ice Cream Event and this was my seventeenth stop. I did have plans to play golf after, so I made a quick decision on ice cream, then took a couple minutes to look at the animals in the back (mostly cows). I was in heaven the moment I saw my favorite ice cream flavors in one on the menu: peanut butter caramel cookie dough. Call me controversial but I was also so grateful it didn't have chocolate chips. The ice cream was very smooth and creamy, with each flavor popping up at different moments. There are a couple of tables to choose from under a covering, but since I was in a rush, I chose to stand and watch the animals. They have a little gumball machine filled with animal food and a sink to wash your hands after. It's a very cute and semi-isolated place. I have spent so much time in the East Bay of Rhode Island. I shop at the Swansea Walmart. And yet, until the RI FOOD FIGHTS #bestscoopshopri event, I had no idea Simcock Farms existed. And according to their yelp page, I am late to the game. After a short drive on some pretty tree lined winding roads, I arrived at my destination. It was another blistering hot day when I pulled into the parking lot. A cute white building with a big ole tent in front for shading waiting guests. Already a good sign! The young lady at the counter was quite pleasant, although when I mentioned I wanted to try *her* favorite, I almost laughed as she hesitated before saying, "it's cotton candy, is that okay?" because little did she know I happen to LOVE cotton candy ice cream. Genuinely a sweet young lady. I got my colorful cone, snapped a few photos and jumped into my car to eat in the AC. The ice cream was very good. Very creamy, wonderful cotton candy flavor but didn't over do it in the sugar department. Sometimes cotton candy ice cream can be too sweet with the sugar on sugar combo, so I appreciate that Simcock Farms knows how to balance it. I'm bummed that it took me this long to find this place, but consider this the beginning of a beautiful friendship! read more

By far the best ice cream and value for the money of any ice cream stand within 100 mi radius!

First off, the customer service was exceptional. The girl was very kind and considerate took her time explained every single ice cream where it came from and the place we were actually told what those were. They came in four different companies, but she found this one that was not local. I told her I was looking for something different and exciting flavor and this is the one that she picked out for us. The black raspberry Oreo cookie chunk. It was delicious and the very first bite of the very last it was full of flavor and chips and Oreo cookie like every single bite. We always opt for waffle cones, so the size doesn't jump out at you like it would if it was on a regular sugar cone. I love watching the peoples faces when they get their cones, sundaes and banana splits!! lol They are massive! These are their "small" cones as you will see in my pic. Mine is half S'mores and M&M Cookie Dough with Rainbow Sprinkles... My husband's is M&M Cookie Dough. Don't forget to bring some coins when you visit so you can feed the farm animals! Simcock Farm is THE place to be if you're "in the know" about quality ice cream, absolutely HUGE portions, and lovely bucolic scenery... Just splendid. I've been coming to Simcocks since I was just a kiddo and they never fail to impress. Each time I bring someone new I give them the size warning... "size DOWN what you think you want" -- yes, because the portions are that huge. It's comical to see their faces when handed their cone/cup and always the same reaction: "I know you said the portions are huge but this is nuts!" :-) In addition to the amazing ice cream, you can enjoy relaxing behind the barn among a few picnic tables within view (and reach!) of some adorable farm animals. Goats, cows, and little ponies meander around happily, eager to meet you at the fence for some treats. (There is a gumball-machine-style thingy where you can buy some feed to give to them!) As a lovely bonus, they even have a quaint little sink outside so you can wash your hands if your melting ice cream gets a little sticky or if you want to clean up after interacting with the farm life. This is so nice for when you're bringing small kiddos. Hit this place up in the summer afternoon or evening and the lines can be long! But I've discovered the sweet spot... around 5-6pm or so... everyone's home eating dinner so the lines are non-existent! ;-) Dessert can come before dinner sometimes, right? Additionally, the sunset is lovely, and I've gotten some great "golden hour" pictures of my kiddo enjoying his treat and petting some animals - it's just relaxing, pastoral, and made for memories. Simcock Farm is one of the reasons I LOVE living near woodsy, small town establishments surrounded by farmland and rolling fields. This place is among my number one destinations to enjoy ice cream during summer and early fall evenings. Simcock Farm is not simply an ice cream stand though. . . it is indeed a working farm in Swansea, MA. What does this mean you ask? Not only can you enjoy fresh ice cream, but available for purchase are fresh vegetables, flowers (they always have a gigantic field of sunflowers to gaze upon), dairy products, candles, and much more! Mosey around and say hello to the cows, pigs, goats, chickens, etc. There are seasonal delights to enjoy as well such as hay rides, pumpkins, cornstalks, etc. Back to the ice cream. . . delicious! All the favorite flavors with a few surprises! Last time I went, I had a chocolate frappe. I highly suggest this, it was soooo good :) Creamy and very very chocolaty. Sampling the various flavors including s'mores, peanuts butter cookie dough, regular cookie dough and rocky road - with the "small" literally having a pint of ice cream in the huge waffle cone, nary a person came away unsatisfied with their selection. While lacking in comparison to the Ice Cream Barn, Somerset Creamery is always a good place to go after sporting events. Most of my memories of this shop are from after baseball games. Good place to hang out with friends and see some animals. Ice cream is high quality and small size is way to big (positive). Other than the ice cream, during Halloween season there is a hayride and corn maze set up in the fields. It is a fun place to go for some Halloween fun or simply for great ice cream. read more

The portions here are out of this world massive. I think I heard them say a large is more than a pint of ice cream. I'm unsure why they do this from a business perspective - frankly I'd be happier with less - but people like a good deal and the line is usually long. A decent little ice cream stand located in a rural part of Swansea, Ma. The ice cream portion/stand is a small building with a take-out window only-no admittance to building. My daughter had the Chocolate Frappe which she enjoyed very much. I had the sugar-free butter pecan...I've had better. Walk to the back of the building and you'll find a petting zoo with goats, hens, pigs and cows. You may want to finish your ice cream before opting for the petting sessions. The yard is rather small and there are only two picnic tables in the back and no other places to sit..so you either stand or eat in your car. The only restroom is a port-a-potty. Generally, not a bad place to stop and eat some ice cream while enjoying the wafting fragrance of fertilizer being created before your eyes. read more

So SLOW and disorganized! The process of ordering ice cream is confusing and so slow you don't feel like you are making any progress while standing in line. Also the line in very awkward because it is in the parking lot and customers are scattered amongst the cars. It is also very hot and uncomfortable because it is in the hot sun. One of my absolute favorite places! I could keep going for days and days. They have a variety of animals, you don't have to pay to see them. They come right up to you and the farm has food to feed them. It costs 25 cents for a handful! They only charge 5 dollars a person for popcorn, the corn maze, and a hay ride! Its such a family friendly place. The pumpkins are cheap, the ice cream is AMAZING, and the people are so sweet! 10/10 reccomend read more

This is the cutest back country ice cream stand. The staff was really friendly and the farm is adorable! You can feed the goats and sheep along with other farm animals. It's a little out of the way but wayyyyy worth the drive! The flavors of ice cream are really yummy. I had the Orange pineapple. And my husband enjoyed the peach.? Vanilla ice cream with huge chunks of fresh peaches. They have these cute little feed things that you can use your change to feed the goats that come right up to you for a snack. I recently visited Simcock farm ice-cream stand/organization and it was wonderful.  I had the peanut butter caramel/cookie dough ice cream and it was delicious! the ice-cream was super fresh. The service was friendly and I highly recommend this beautiful establishment. The animals in the back are perfect for the kids which I loved! All of the staff had matching shirts that advertised for a maze event that will take place in the fall--I can not wait. Bev and Jim run a great farm and I am excited to explore their corn maze event in the fall. I do not know why people still go to Simcock Farm. The icecream is no better than the stuff at the supermarket (it is probably made in the same factory!), the staff is rude, and the forlorn looking animals in undersized, cruel cages out back are VERY sad. A chicken deserves more than 5 square feet of leg room! The tables are chronically dirty, and the whole place is just plain nasty. Simcock Farms is more than an Ice cream store in a fake barn like the Ice Cream Barn. They have a real barn which was built by the Simcock family in 1932. This is where their so called forlorn animals live, not in cages. Their ice cream is great, my favorite is S'More. You can even get a frappe in an old fashioned milk bottle with their logo on it. The portion size is larger and the price is cheaper than the other place Chris H has mentioned. I wish I could post pics of the adorable animals. They are also the home of the 2nd largest bull in the North East, come meet Goliath, he might even eat right out of your hand! Eeyore the donkey is my favorite. They have Two Wheel Tuesday, Cool Car Wednesday, Haunted Hayrides, Corn Maze, A yearly Benefit for St. Jude's, Christmas trees & wreaths and more. Go here for the ice cream. Leave because of the staff. First off, it's a cash only place. Keep that in mind. Hands down this place has some of the best frozen treats this side of Crescent Ridge. I went and had asked (on a couple occasions) for a kiddie, or small, ice cream and was handed through the window this massive, towering sundae of goliath proportions. The party I was with just laughed it off and said that it's why they never order a large, because the portion sizes are just so huge. Well, the prices kind of are too. You're paying a premium up front for some unique flavors of ice cream that you can't find elsewhere, in pretty big portions. The last time I went, I asked for half a kiddie portion of ice cream, and got it begrudgingly. Please, let me pay you the same for less product. I don't need all this ice cream, or it dripping everywhere. While in line, someone ahead of me had asked for a cup to put some of the excess from her children's sundae in so that it wouldn't get everywhere. The staff inside told her no, because she didn't by a soda or shake, but she could get napkins for free. When I asked for a bigger cup for my sundae so that when it melted ,it didn't get all over me, I was told the same thing: "you didn't get a large, so we can't give you a bigger one, I'm sorry." I don't know if it was bad timing, but there have been multiple occasions where I've seen people outright ignored, been rude to, or just walked away from the staff here. Like I said: come for the ice cream, leave because of the staff. You'll love it. (I recommend a s'mores with hot fudge and jimmies. So good.) read more

Family run business, beautiful place to visit and spend a couple of hours with the kids sitting on the back picnic table and visiting with all the animals. I love visiting here. I've been going since I was a little kid, so maybe I'm biased. I always have a fun time watching the animals while I eat my ice cream. It seems like they have different animals whenever I go (like I can remember a time when there were rabbits), but I don't go very often. I find their ice cream to be some of the best in the area, but they do have competition with other excellent ice cream places close by. read more

At Simcock Farm, the customer is NOT always right. Let me just start off by saying, boy is their ice cream delicious. So delicious in fact, that a few friends and I drove nearly a half hour to enjoy some of their creamy goodness. That's when things took a turn for the worst. All my gigantic heart desired was a sundae with coffee-Oreo ice cream and strawberries on top. When our server handed me the sundae I realized i was given the wrong ice cream. Uh-oh. I hate strawberry ice cream... No worries though, I'll just ask the nice girl behind the counter to remake my sundae with the correct ice cream- no harm, no foul. NOPE. I was informed that if I wanted a new ice cream, I would have to pay for it. Now, it was only only about 88 degrees outside but my blood instantly began to boil (blood boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit). I decided to hold my composure and ask again for my sundae to be remade. Our ice cream scooper then had the courage to say that I "ordered wrong". I was taken back. Speechless. I lost. I hung my head in defeat. "It's just not your day bud" I told myself "...not your day". Simcock Farms is by far the best find my family and I have been to in a long time. My husband and I took our two-year old son to the farm this past weekend. We originally went to pick our own apples, but they did not have any apples left. That was fine because the rest of the farm was amazing!! We saw some cows, goats, pigs, donkeys, etc. We were able to feed them as well. They have a lovely country store with a very, very nice woman who works inside. I purchased a huge mum plant for $5.50...what a deal it was!! I also purchased 6 ears of corn for $2 and it was the best corn I have ever tasted! Then we went on a hayride, which was only $5 for my husband and me. They did not charge for my son and they gave us little goodie bags, which was a nice touch. My son loved loved, loved the hayride. They decorated the woods with witches, ghosts, spiders, etc. The driver of the tractor dropped us off at a corn maze, which was really fun. Then to top the day off, we went to the ice cream stand and had the best homemade ice cream. The ice creams there are gigantic. The small sundae stood a foot tall and their waffle cones are bigger than you face. We had a wonderful day there and thought that everyone that worked there was so friendly and appreciative that we were at the farm. I would highly recommend this farm to anyone. Oh and they have a pumpkin patch and you can pick out your own pumpkins for 49c a pound. What a great find this place turned out to be! Can't wait to go back again real soon. read more
