Simón Tacos isn't much to look at outside or inside but it more than makes up for its lack of visual character wIth the quality andfaltaste of its food! I ordered a tostada with carne asada online and was pleasantly surprised to find it ready for me with no wait once I arrived. The cashier even volunteered information on how to get my food for cheaper in the future (I guess the trick is to call in your order rather than placing it through the app). The tostada is among one of the best that I've ever had and worth every dollar, despite it being a bit on the small side. Today the manager named Stephan decided to not honor a legitimate Verizon coupon from the Verizon local Verizon Up offers he stated that he won't accept it even though wasn't expired or anything. So this is the last time we will order from this place. The place is very clean and the employees are friendly and helpful. I had the taco platter, which comes with 3 tacos, rice, and refried beans with a little cheese on them. I got steak tacos and everything was very good. It was my first time here, so I asked for 1 red and 1 green sauce to try them both. I think the red is hotter and I preferred the flavor of the green. The taco platter cost $9 plus 97c tax. I also tipped 2 dollars, even though I ordered to go. So $12 is a little steep for a lunch, but it was very tasty and I was pretty full. The hot sauce came in small cups, and were barely half full. Fortunately that was enough sauce for me, but a little more would have been nice. Next time I'll know better. My wife and I live around the corner from this place, and it's a nice change from the previous restaurant that was there. This place isn't quite 5 stars yet, but a solid 4. The staff was friendly to us. The girl who was first behind the counter was a little off, maybe she was nervous or something or still learning, but the gentleman has nice hospitality. After ordering, he brought us their homemade chips and salsa, yum! The chips are f'ing awesome! I ordered 2 chorizo tacos, and my wife ordered the steak fajitas. One big thing is their quality of meat is spot on. Please don't change it! My chorizo was one of the best I've ever had, and my wife really enjoyed the steak. My wife is also a stickler with corn tortillas, and enjoyed them here. A couple suggestions to the owner since this place is brand new and I'm sure working out the kinks: The refried beans my wife had were very runny and bland. Something that should definitely be looked into. Also the back room is very cold. The heat worked great by the front, but we wanted a little more privacy after a really long day of work. We ate with our coats on which was a little annoying, but not something that would make us not come back. Last, I would probably recommend contacting the company you paid for your signs on the outside as they spelled burritos wrong for you. I was excited to try out Simon's tacos after reading an article about the place. I ordered steak, al pastor, lengua and chile relleno tacos and an enchilada dinner to share with my kids. The steak tacos and the lengua tacos had no flavor at all, they were very bland. The chile relleno taco tasted like grease and was very greasy too! The al pastor had nice chunks of pork but again, had no flavor at all, especially since al pastor tacos are normally very flavorful. The enchilada dinner....well....let me say that...it looked like shriveled tacos huddled together and smeared with a very light tomato and onion sauce! Definitely not an enchilada sauce or an enchilada by any means! The rice and beans were bland, seriously it was like eating cardboard, no flavor! So disappointed, I was really hoping that a good place to have tacos was finally available in my area, sadly my quest continues! read more

Recently featured on Chicago's Best, they enlightened me as to a strange phenomenon going on at Taquerias that is similar to white people viewing it as sacrilege to put ketchup on a hot dog - cheese on steak tacos is highly frowned upon. The cheese is for the beans, they say. Hell, they'll look at you funny if you request lettuce. Standard steak taco = onions and cilantro only, and god forbid that you ask for anything beyond that! And you know what? I'm with it. I like cheese just as much as the next (white) guy, but I will conform so that I don't have people laughing behind my back! In all seriousness, this place is amazing. I stopped in while on my way home and was pleasantly surprised. Steak was well seasoned and had the char I like while being fresh. I had the $7 taco dinner with rice and beans and those sides were plentiful and tasty too! It was worth the money for sure! Place was clean and nicely set-up in the inside. The menu is very large and clear in English and Spanish. The girl at the counter was nice and constantly kept herself busy. We ordered the steak taco platter that came with rice and beans as well as a small chicken quesadilla. They give you 'complimentary chips and salsa' which is a basket of fresh chips with the red and green sauces in bottles. Not having the salsa in a little bowl really slowed me down on slamming the entire basket of chips in 5 min- which I suppose is a good thing. Both the chicken and steak were very flavorful and yummy but the rice and beans had a funny taste. Not sure if it tasted like chemicals... plastic... but definitely did not taste good. I'll chalk it up to assuming we just had a bad batch, but we gave this place a try hoping to find our neighborhood taco joint- and this just won't make the cut. Will I return? Probably not. My torta was compromised mostly of fat. Not much to eat. The hot sauce and chips was good. The service was slow and all over the place. Would not recommend. Very expensive and small portions. We love the food at Simòn's, and it's conveniently located for us.... the only thing preventing a 5 star review is the delivery. When you order expect to wait an hour + for delivery. It took us a while to catch onto this. We ordered food at 5:47 tonight and it was delivered at 7:06. (The estimated delivery time when we ordered was 6:30.) The tacos are good, my daughter loves the quesadillas and the taco salad is really good. We also enjoy the horchata, although it seems they've removed this from their delivery option recently. Authentic Mexican taqueria! Don't expect a bunch of lettuce and cheese/cream to mask the flavor of these great tacos(although I'm sure you can still request them). Asada taco was perfect and simple as it should be with a good char and seasoning. Barbacoa was amazing; lots of places don't seem to do them well but they are great here, maybe even the best around. Al Pastor taco was a big surprise; the meat was high quality and not over seasoned. Lots of other places over season their al pastor to cover the low quality of the meat used. Only complaints: -The cilantro to onion ratio on the tacos is leaning too much toward onion, needs more cilantro -The woman working the front counter seemed to only run at one speed and lagged behind in taking orders or anything else she was doing. Of course the place is new and there is some learning/growing to be done. -I was skimped on the salsa. I ordered 6 tacos and only got 3 tiny 1oz salsas. I did specify I only wanted green salsa but that doesn't me to only give me half of the total amount of salsa that is usually given. I should've checked before I left with my order. **This review will be followed by an update in about 2 months** We went in on New Year's Eve, right around 4pm. Being familiar with the joint that was here prior to Simon's recently opening, the renovations were a pleasant surprise. It looks nice inside, clean. They did a good job. Left the energy saver stickers on the brand new TVs which was odd, but looked nice. Clean. The place was empty -- two other people in the entire restaurant. There were 3 of us, two orders. Eating at the restaurant. While ordering noticed there were bags of rice and some other foodstuffs on the floor in the back room. Everything was packaged and wasn't a food hazard, but still shouldn't have been in sight. First order was a Super Burrito (regular burrito is cilantro and onion, you pay an xtra $2 for "everything", at most places "Super" "Jumbo" "Grande" etc, means larger portion, with "everything" as a free option) and a horchata. As this was my first encounter seeing a burrito from Simon's, maybe it was larger than their standard burrito, but it looked to be average in size. The second order was for an order of 3 steak tacos (cilantro & onion), another order of 3 steak tacos (cilanto, onion, lettuce & tomato) and a horchata. First order came out pretty quickly -- 6 minutes. We shared some of their homemade tortilla chips, which were over salted and fried too hot, as all of the chips bubbled and cracked immediately. At 8 minutes we wondered how the tacos were coming along. At 12 minutes the Super Burrito was half gone. At 15 minutes one of the gals working the register asked if we were both still waiting for our order -- we were -- we were apologized to and told our order was next. At 19 minutes we asked the couple at the next table how long they had been waiting (they noticed us looking back) and were told "seems like a while....") At 23 minutes we walked to the counter to check -- they were finishing our two taco orders, wrapping them up to go. We walked out at 26 minutes with our now to-go orders, since the Super Burrito was history, and our horchatas were empty. The food itself was decent. Steak seemed to be quality, beans were fine. Rice seemed to be of the Uncle Ben variety, but who cares. Their verde is all flavor and no heat (which is fine). Their red sauce is all heat and no flavor (which is also fine, especially if paired with the verde). Their food deserves a 3 star, maybe a weak 4 star, but the service deserves about a negative 3 star. Waiting half an hour for 6 tacos is unacceptable, especially when the place was empty when we walked in. I will try them again in a month or two, and hopefully I can bump this rating up because it would be good to have a decent eatery in the neighborhood that can hopefully stick around, but the "banquet quality" food and service we were promised was a joke, unless your idea of a banquet is an Old Country Buffet that has run out of everything. read more

Great neighborhood taco spot hits the spot every time. Their standout tacos in my humble opinion are the barbacoa and the shrimp. So good! Barbacoa is cooked to perfection (you don't find barbacoa at many taco places!) and the shrimp tacos are smothered in a spicy, zesty chipotle sauce. Yum! Definitely check this place out. It's pretty and they have parking but the food was really bad. First of all , you can tell that the left over tortillas are used for their chips .
