They're super accommodating if you're vegan! They even have vegan Thai tea which is BOMB. They use coconut milk which I feel like taste better than how it's normally made. They veganized the other dishes we got and there was no lacking in flavor whatsoever. Definitely a hidden gem! read more

BEST FOOD. Incredibly amazing Thai food that is also super-fresh; they clearly source well. We had a party of six, and everyone's dishes that I could taste were varied and fresh and delicious. This would be a destination for Thai food. Even though there's plenty that good in SF/Berkeley/Oakland this was still a cut above. Also many dishes not often seen on standard Thai restaurant menus, such as tofu larb. But there is no atmosphere at all. It feels like a cafeteria/greasy spoon. Also I found it incredibly annoying to tell our server that we wanted only a few orders of rice, plus it should have been obvious when one dish was fried rice and one was noodles that a party of six needs nothing close to 6 rice orders, but we were brought and charged for six (wasted) orders anyway. I'd rather be listened to and see less food waste; I hope they really take care of this. I would return for the outstanding food. read more

My families came to visit from Napa. It was around 7 pm and we parked the car on the street. The restaurant was not too big with 3 & 4 big tables for groups or families. We ordered the Lao style salad and it is a bit fishy and not very sweep. However, the more you eat, the better its taste. Overall, it takes time getting used to it. We also ordered curry duck. It is my best surprise of the night. It is not very spice and great balance of the coconut milk and the curry. This is the dish highly recommend. We followed the good yelp ratings and weren't disappointed! The food was delicious, we ordered 41 with brown rice and a curry dish with pineapple, tomatoes and duck with Jasmine rice. I asked for a extra mushrooms in my dish and got plenty for 1$ extra. Also I used the yelp offer for 1 free Thai iced tea and it was super tasty. Stopped in here for lunch the other day. Friendly, attentive service. Food was very good. I had the Pad Prig Khing with pork, one of my go-to Thai dishes. I thought the spice and flavor was just right and the portion was generous. Food is delicious, staff is friendly and atmosphere is poppin'! I always get my goto; pad thai w/ prawns. So delicious, the noodles are soft and chewy and the prawns are not over done; so juicy and flavorful. Staff is super friendly and very attentive to myself and other customers. The music varies, sometimes it could be classical or it could be smooth jazz and sometimes hip hop! I love it. The lighting is perfect and well ventilated. Simple Thai is definitely a gem. This is my first time eating here at Simple Thai. Surrounding area looks shady outside but inside was pleasant and calming. Waiter/waitress was friendly but service was very slow. We waited a while to get our food. I ordered the Papaya salad but I was not impressed because it didn't taste fresh and it was a bit salty. Too much Fish sauce! The pad Thai was okay. I've had better. The crab fried rice was just simple. I could not taste the "crab". Nothing special about it. The fried banana with coconut ice cream was really good though. Had the duck salad which smelled and tasted strongly of fish sauce, so much that I took two bites and pushed it to the side. No offer was made to replace it or take it off the bill after expressing dislike. My husband had the grilled chicken and fried rice which were also just okay. Service was friendly and made sure to tell me the gluten free options, there just weren't as many as I'm used to. When I went to Gina to check her out and seen the other dogs that she groomed I had to book an appointment. The owners daughter waited on us who we found very engaging and informative. The menu is quite extensive and the food fresh and beautifully presented. My friend and I shared Roast Duck on a bed of steamed spinach and a chili dipping sauce; extra spicy salad of noodles, fermented crab sauce with dried shrimp and a generous bowl of eggplant with shrimp coconut curry rounded out with brown rice. I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely be returning to savor more of the menu offerings. My husband and I have been to Simple Thai on numerous occasions and it's been nothing short of wonderful. We usually both get the Ka Ree (#45) because I don't know if I've spelled it correctly. My husband is the custom curry orderer and gets his with green curry and one notch short of "Thai Spicy" they come through every time! I just get my food the way they cook it and it is amazing. We normal take our orders to go but when we do eat in we love to get the Sa Tay for an app and the peanut sauce is AMAZING. I don't know what it is about it but it is so delicious. Thai tea is yummy as well. Simple Thai is just fulfills our Thai cravings and addictions. The staff is so friendly and no one bats an eye at the mess my son makes when we eat in. You guys rock! I will add our last visit took quite a bit of time (1 hour wait) and there was quite a few hiccups. Ran out of rice/ forgot to add the peppers to my curry blah blah blah. Went for lunch, based on the Yelp reviews, and we were VERY disappointed. When we came in, the restaurant was not busy. After about 10 minutes, we were able to get the server's attention and order. He brought our drinks, and nothing else for literally 40 minutes. When I tried to make eye contact, he would totally ignore us. Strange..... When the egg rolls finally did arrive, they were good, but it doesn't take 40 minutes to fry an egg roll. Next dish, green papaya salad "Laos style." It was literally disgusting. White ramen noodles still formed into a block, old green papaya, topped with dried brine shrimp, just like I used to feed my pet turtles. Except the ones they got were better. All swimming in WAY too much watery fish sauce stuff. It was inedible. When he came back with the last two dishes (both decent) we mentioned that we REALLY did not like the "salad." He shrugged and walked away, leaving it on the table. It sat there, even after we paid the check. He did ask us if we'd like it boxed up however. What?!?! We had to smell and stare at fish food in the middle of the table, all through this long, sad lunch. We won't be going back. Response to owner: I worked in the restaurant business for over 15 years, starting as a busser, then server in many fine dining establishments around the US, all the way up to managing a Michelin starred restaurant in the Napa Valley, and clearly, by your response to my criticism, you are the one who is truly clueless. There is no excuse for bad service, plain and simple. When a table is seated in a dining room, having to wait 10+ minutes to be recognized and flag someone down is totally unacceptable. When there are only two other tables (and no take out business - we know, we were there for two hours because the service was so slow and no one came in to pick up anything, not once) is is just ridiculous. I eat in ethic restaurants the world over all the time, and I know good food. That dish was poor quality, not balanced, and not edible in my opinion. When a guest in your restaurant says they do not like something, remove it from the table. Learn basic table service, and clear a table before the check comes. Listen to your customers. Being arrogant is not cool, and when your food and PARTICULARLY your service are sub par, it's just makes you look like an idiot. Dude, look at all of the other negative reviews you have on here and you will notice a common theme. Your service sucks. If you spent more time training your staff and listening to your guests, instead of insulting them when they have legitimate complaints, you might learn something and grow as a restauranteur.
