Was in the area around 1130-1200 and wanted to try this spot out for lunch after reading the high marks/reviews.. Guy at register was polite and explained the menu/questions I had and what not.. I attempted to order a chicken shawarma but was told they were out of chicken shawarma, so I ordered the chicken gyro w/fries.. When the food came out a couple min later.. The food came out fresh and piping hot.. Everything looked good! I bit into the fries and they were soggy "limp".. How is that possible?? I saw the grease glisening off the fries and they were hot.. What happened?? I guess they didn't cook it long enough?? Sheesh!! On to the chicken gyro which looked good! So after the soggy hot fires debacle I was hoping this joint would save the day.. Yikes!! I took a bit, and as I proceeded to chew, all I was getting was "crunch" action.. So the first thing i did was look at the chicken to see if it was cooked.. I really couldn't tell because of the sauce and what not... I took another bite, and the same thing! So now I'm starting to get grossed out.. You know the consistency of a chicken breast when its not cooked all the way and it's chewy?? This was that chewy/crunchy action I was experiencing.. I inspected the gyro again, and noticed underneath the chicken that there was a pickle.. I said ok.. ok.. cool! (thinking that was my issue) I took a fork and bit into another piece of the chicken by itself, and again.."Crunchy Chicken"!! The chicken was at the "cusp" of being cooked at the exact temp but needed to be cooked for another 3-5 min "allegedly" Wrapping this up, I won't be back! I have eaten at Simply Falafel before, but it's been some time. I remember it being good, but also for the fact that I ordered way too much food for one person. Armed with that memory, plus the fact I wasn't terribly hungry, I went with a falafel sandwich and a bowl of roasted red pepper soup. After returning from my last trip to Israel in 2016, I set about to try the falafel and hummus from several of the Mediterranean restaurants in OKC. I was mistaken to have not included Simply Falafel because today reminded me they do have the best falafel anywhere nearby. The patties are large, with the perfect amount of crispness on the outside and a moist, but not mushy, inside. The lady at the counter recommended I try it with hummus and tzatziki. I enjoyed it quite a lot. The tomato, spinach and other vegetables were fresh. I was also very pleased with the roasted red pepper soup. It had a good, but mild flavor; perfect for a cool winter day. I also can't say enough about the service. I had considered hot tea as a drink, hoping they had a hot mint tea or even, perhaps, a cardamom coffee. The owner made me a cup of tea anyway, a tasty English breakfast tea. I noticed he made his way to each table, often more than once. It's this personal touch, along with great food, that makes this a place you want to come back to frequently. read more

Last night, my family and I visited Simply Falafel for the first time on recommendation from a friend. As we walked into the restaurant the owner told us where to sit. He brought us paper menus. Once we told him this was our first time to visit his restaurant, he said, "Gimme back the menus! We are gonna do family style!" With great confidence he said, "You're gonna have to trust me! I will not disappoint you!" We agreed and then all of a sudden fresh hummus and bread were at our table! The bread was warm and yummy! The hummus was incredible! As we started eating this delicious "appetizer" more plates started coming from the kitchen!! A plate of freshly made falafels and a plate of two salads came to the table. The falafels were incredible! The best I've ever had! The two salads were fresh and yummy! One salad was a Greek style salad and the other was a Persian salad. All the veggies were crisp and perfect! Then another huge plate came from the kitchen. It was filled with lamb, rice, grilled veggies, and chicken. Just thinking about this plate makes my mouth WATER!! Everything was perfectly cooked and spiced just right! We are on a white sugar fast right now and we were unable to have dessert. But let me tell you! It LOOKED so delicious! We will have their baklava at some point. Y'all? I have traveled the world. I have had many experiences like this one; where the owner takes you under their wing and takes care of you. I was having a conversation right before walking into Simply Falafel (SF) about how a few years ago, when I was a university student, the cost of a meal was the ultimate differentiator between a good restaurant experience, and a bad restaurant experience. University Jeff was all about the cheap foodstuffs. I mean... Professional Jeff is too, but Professional Jeff has more discretionary income than University Jeff. But the point is, University Jeff's standard for good food was lower because food pricing was paramount. My last meal at SF was something small, and inexpensive. Professional Jeff was therefore curious to see if SF would hold up to University Jeff's memories. Anyway, all this to say that SF is even better than I remember. There were things on the menu that I would have never even looked at in the past, because... University Jeff, remember? It was University Jeff that started a list called "Under Seven." Well this time, we decided to try some things that were more than $7: There's something called the Sultani Platter (it's on their board, but not on their paper trifold menus). You choose three meats (we chose Kafta, Gyro, and Chicken Shawarma), and it comes with salad (we chose Fattoush), and a choice of Basmati rice, Mujadara rice, or Cous Cous (we chose Basmati), pita bread, and some sauces. My dining companion and I were hungry, so we assumed one platter may not be enough (some of the pictures you see on the business page are for family style platters, which are bigger than their everyday platters), and decided to order Hummus as well. Big mistake. I mean, not a big mistake in our choice, because the Hummus was really good. It was a big mistake in that it was too much food. One platter is more than enough for two people (with reasonable appetites). By the end of the meal, we had warm pita bread coming out of our ears. The food was also unapologetically Mediterranean. The seasonings weren't diminished to cater to overly Americanized palates, and everything we consumed was absolutely flavorful. It's hard to go over $30 for two people, and even our meal that hovered around $26 was in hindsight, somewhat excessive for us. Also, customer service was amazing. There was an incredibly attentive and helpful young lady who was so great throughout our meal that I ended up walking out thinking that I should have tipped more (since we paid for the meal before we got it as opposed to after). Magid (the owner) also came by at one point and spoke with us for several minutes. He has exceptional memory and was able to recall my friend who had catered from SF some three or four years back. And then he gave me tips on the best routes to take to avoid the frustrating traffic on Broadway Extension. He's a very personable, and gracious man who seems to really enjoy interacting with his customers. So it turns out that cheap University Jeff's tastes aren't all that different from slightly less cheap Professional Jeff. Bonus: Simply Falafel participates in the Yelp Cash Back thingie. It's like... one of 10 restaurants in this city currently that does sooo... Yeah... That's cool. Professional Jeff (just like University Jeff) is all about that cash back. P. S. Order was late for pickup by about a half hour and then was i was handed the order, i was told that they don't have beef and gave me chicken instead. What is the purpose of having an online system if they don't know how to operate/maintain it to make accurate orders? Thanks to Yelp I came here with some cousins who had never had Greek food before. Let me just tell you...so good! The service was absolutely excellent and of all the dishes, the chicken shawarma is a must to order!! My goodness...so tender and marinated just right. Yum! The server and owner were so hospitable and offered us samples of many items they had which was great for my cousins who are newbies to the Greek world. I'm definitely planning on returning here before I leave and again my next trip to Edmond. I've had better hummus which was kind of a bummer...this one seemed to taste like peanuts were heavily in the mix. Considering the name of the place, I'm assuming they have a mean falafel...let me know, didn't try it. As far as sweets go, the nomoura and baklava are good choices if that's your thing. Both have a syrup coating on the bottom. Not sure if they have hot tea, but hmm that would have been great to accompany. I love when I can write a 5-star review. They definitely deserve it. The prices are pretty reasonable and the portions are large. Price range $9-15. Try this place! Oh, and it's near Target...like another reviewer said, don't follow google maps, it'll take you on the other side. We stopped here for lunch on a Saturday. They have really good, flavorful Mediterranean food. The gentleman who took our order (May be the owner?) was very engaging. The gentleman took extra care to clean a high chair for our 2 year old before we sat in our seats. I have a friend who didn't like Mediterranean food. His wife and I forced him to go with us to Simply Falafel, because we both love Mediterranean food. Long story short: Majid has made another convert. This is the second time I have brought a friend to Simply Falafel and asked Majid or his staff, to show us his food. This place is a gem. We got in 30 mins before they closed and was warmly welcomed by this young lady at the counter. She asked if it was our first time in there and I said yes. Told her we're driving by and still has a long way ahead of us. She immediately gave each of my boys honest organic juice (she said it's free). I asked what their best seller is and she told me about this platter (and for the life of me, I could not remember the name!). Anyway, this platter has 3 choices of meats (I got the gyro, chicken shawarma, and falafel); yellow basmati; pita bread; and a side of fattoush salad (topped with fried pita). She said she's bringing in a free plate of potato fries (for the boys) and drinks for me and hubby are on her (so sweet of her!). Then she goes to say that my boys get free ice cream for dessert. Lots of freebies for newbies like us! Can't beat that! She didn't stop at that, she also gave us a tour of their kitchen and showed us how they made the chicken shawarma. :-) Everything in that platter is heaven on earth! And it's a LOT it fed our family of 4! That crispy falafel with sesame toppings is to die for! They really do live up to their name!! This was my go to gyro place in Edmond. It's not anymore! I went and ordered a gyro with fries they gave me rice. I didnt realize it till I drove all the way home. I also realized they didnt give me any sauce for my gyro, so I drove up there and told them they gave me rice instead of fries and forgot my sauce for the gyro. He gave me the sauce and would not give me the fries.... So I guess the customer isn't always right here. Got home with the sauce and the gyro was cold, worst Gyro ever... Tonight we placed our to go order (to be picked up) through the restaurant's Yelp page. I usually use Simply Falafel's own website to order, but used Yelp's without thinking. After placing my order, I realized the price seemed higher than usual. While waiting for my food, I checked and confirmed the prices for the food you order through Yelp's website are significantly higher than if you use the restaurant's. I ended up paying $11 more than if I had ordered through Simply Falafel's website. I have nothing negative to say about Simply Falafel, but I do about Yelp. My meal had a 25% surcharge just because I placed the order through their website. If they are going to do that, they should disclose it. I've been an active user of Yelp but this is not acceptable.
