I've taken my cars here for smog test the last several years now and experience has been fantastic, including today. They're located on corner of Reseda/Parthenia, next door to Autozone and across from Thai BBQ. Pricing is a bit on high end ($79), but service is excellent, quick and staff friendly. All the paperwork is taken care of for you and electronically sent to DMV. Takes about a week for tags to arrive. In addition, the following free amenities are provided while you wait. Seating area - sofas, recliner Flat screen TV Air hockey table Small electronic organ Free sodas, water, cookies and coffee Exercise bike Massage chair Got my cup of coffee while I waited for my car and 10 minutes in, they were done. The standard price without coupon was about double ($98.00) what other shops in the local vicinity are charging for a standard recent passenger sedan vehicle. This place is out to rip everyone off with an outrageous price. When I saw the price I said "thank you very much" and left, and went to another local STAR certified place that charged about half out the door for the exact same service. Your pricing is outrageous and way out of line for a STAR certified smog check service. This place is banking on uninformed customers who don't know the going market rates for local STAR certified smog checks. I had my 37' class a RV smog tested here on Feb. 18, 2022 and was in and out in about 30 minutes. These guys are friendly and just got the job done. The waiting area is really great, 'man cave' style with drinks and entertainment. The website camera was useful in seeing how busy they were before driving over. It wasn't busy and I got right in. I am only writing on price. I sent my son to get my car smogged. I never in all my years paid 89.00 to have a car smogged. My son loved the man cave and food but 89.00 for a smog test. I checked prices online and most fall between 29.95 and 69.95. If it was me I would of walked out but my son didn't know 89.00 was insane. I have a mid-80s 4x4 truck that's pre-OBD and difficult to smog. Problems every go-'round. Most places don't even want to do these vintage vehicles so I get the 'my machine is broken' B.S. These guys were great! I failed my first test. Fixed the issues, and back for the free re-test. Pass flying Land Cruiser colors! They have a very comfortable lounge with free soda and bottled water and coffee; even a exercycle in front of a big TV if you're feeling exercise-y . The first time i go to Simply Smog in Northridge, California, everything was great. There's this British or Australian guy who was really friendly and hospitable, simply a pleasure to do business with. Then i go again and he is so rude to me that I was dumb-founded. i keep racking my brain trying to figure out how i could have offended him. I came up with nothing. He was so rude to the extent that he wouldn't even make eye contact with me and when addressing me, he spoke directly to my significant other but not to me. Maybe he was having a bad day. I admit i came in with only a half hour till closing but would that be a reason to be so rude to me? it doesn't seem to take much time to check for smog. I also had no choice, i really needed to get it done. It made me feel really uncomfortable which is kind of ironic because they seem to go out of their way to make people feel comfortable what with all the free snacks and so forth. I don't plan on going back there again. I have another place already set that I feel comfortable going to. read more

Simply Smog was only place open on Sunday and I didn't have time to get the smog done since its due in a couple days. Thats the good thing. The place is clean and efficient I had free wifi, snacks, coffee (a bit weak) , chips, almond milk etc. My car failed the first attempt. I was told to drive it 60mph for 10 minutes and return to retry (for free). My initial quote was $85.00 Since I failed I was charged $76.75 ($70 + 6.75 tax?) I drove the 10 min./ 60 mph and returned in about 30 minutes. I passed. Woo hoo! Then I had to pay again for my "free" retest. $15 more. Had I passed on the first attempt I assume it would have been the $80 + 6.75. Lesson learned. Don't test on a cold engine. Eat a lot of snacks to make up the price difference if you have to come on a Sunday. Or go elsewhere and use a coupon on a weekday/Saturday. p.s. most others brought their familys so they could eat $40 worth of snacks. I got free Costco pizza since it was lunch time! They have a coupon good for a free lunch at Belwood Bakery so take your receipt in afterwards! In 2018 they will give cash discount since they paid $10,000 on cc fees/year. read more

I had a check engine light issue that threatened to complicate the smog process but Nick offered valuable insight and advice, which ultimately resulted in a "Pass" that saved me LOTS of $$. The Good: Clean, comfortable waiting area and they do what everyone else in the area does (smog your vehicle). The Bad: Snooty owner with rude service, and they overcharge for what everyone else in the area does (smog your vehicle). I'd been coming here for years with multiple vehicles and while their prices are double, (and in some cases more than double what other facilities in the nearby area charge), I was content coming here because I'm one of those people who like to stick with something that works. As a loyal customer of many places, I often stay with what I know when it comes to regular services (dry-clean, carwash, smog station, etc) and would have continued coming here despite the high cost, but the owner was (for whatever personal reasons) extremely rude and ill-mannered today. He simply lacked good people skills, and was short and dismissive in conversation. And there goes my future business. The bottom line is this, we don't have high expectations for a smog facility visit to begin with. Especially in a highly competitive market where there are a numerous amount of facilities nearby who do the same thing. So, what sets your business apart from the competition is YOU. The business owner, the people you employ, and the experience you provide. Smog checks are a 15-minute visit, so the bar and expectation is already low. We don't need a memorable experience, but when you provide sub-par service bent on a rude and snooty attitude, you provide a lasting impression. One that will lose you future business and yield an honest Yelp review from a former customer to warn others of the experience you provide paying customers. I just got my car smogged this afternoon. $79 smog isn't considered a bargain, however, it's worth the peace of mind to know the test will be done quickly and efficiently. Not to mention this location has a very relaxing waiting area, and in the over 100 degree heat, an air conditioned waiting room is awesome. I really appreciate the customer care. It means a lot. I'll be honest up front, I didn't price compare Simply Smog with other smog test places around where I live, but I was okay with what I paid compared to the level of service. The owner couldn't have been nicer and more hospitable. He offered a nice place to sit and wait, had music playing (Amy Winehouse no less) and had a fridge stocked with cold drinks and ice cream. I'll admit that I was really procrastinating about getting my smog check done this year. Thank you, fellow Yelpers, for pointing this place out. My general experience with OTHER smog places has been that you take your car in, and they find all sorts of imaginary things wrong with your engine (that will cost $200 - or more - to repair) and then, after you spend all that money, they just turn down your car's idle speed enough so you pass the test, and send you on your way, $200 (or more) lighter in your wallet and with a car that wants to stall out because the idle is turned down so low. Literally, the last time I had my smog check done, I did it ONE DAY after I had my (newer model) car tuned up at my dealership, just to see if they would come up with b.s. reasons why I needed to replace "x", "y" and "z" . . . and I was not disappointed. Such crooks! Simply Smog, however, is not like those OTHER smog ripoff joints. I was in and out in probably less than 10 minutes, polite and friendly service, no additional things "wrong" with my car, my idle speed not tampered with, a kind offer of some pizza while I was there, and nothing but courteous service. To anyway who balks at paying the $79, I ask you: Isn't it better to pay a little more HERE and not have to deal with shenanigans? read more
