However, it was painfully slow. I waited an hour for my food to arrive after ordering. Good thing I was alerted to slow service and brought a book to read. After their move, wanted to try their offerings again. Love the new location and more room space. Greeted warmly. Lots of lag time between being greeted and placing my order. Water was given as I was seated, but pretty much ignored until my food came. I love oxtails, so had to order this again. The oxtails were soft and the gravy that came with it was beefy and had a great onion taste. Just what I am looking for in oxtails. Shrimp and grits were really good. The grits were creamy and tasty. Next, had fried catfish, rice and beans. Plus, macaroni and cheese. Loved the crispness of the catfish. Rice and beans were well seasoned. Macaroni and cheese had a creamy cheese sauce. Have to get greens, theirs had a tasty smoky flavor. They did forget my cornbread and service here can be limited. I was not able to get the attention of my server, nor was I checked in during my meal. They did give me the cornbread to go, once I was presented with the bill. Came here after a hike because our intended spot was fully packed and we determined we were going to get chicken and waffles at 5 am. There's a parking garage for Amazon Go but I believe you can park there as a customer here because the restroom here is located in that parking garage. However, if you don't want to do that, there's also a parking lot for a plaza across the street. Service was fantastic, above and beyond. Menu looked tasty but because we already decided what we wanted 6 hours prior, we all ordered chicken and waffles. I would've loved to try other items though. Chicken and Waffles - a very unique twist on chicken and waffles because it's quite literal. Instead of a slab of fried chicken (boneless) on top of a waffle, it's chicken wings. About 6 wings on a thick waffle. And it's a really thick, dense waffle despite looking pretty normal. This was my first visit--and definitely my last. From the moment I walked in, the experience was disappointing. The staff member taking my order had a rude attitude and spoke to us as if we should already know how everything works there, which made us feel unwelcome. Despite nearly 10 employees being on shift and only a few customers, it still took an unreasonably long time to get our food. When it finally arrived, the quality was beyond disappointing: the mac and cheese was mushy, the greens were unseasoned with an unpleasant taste, the cornbread was bone dry, and the yams were more like soup than a side dish. I stayed patient and polite throughout the visit, but the poor service combined with such subpar food made it the worst $50 I've ever spent--including the tip I left out of courtesy. I had fantastic experience at Simply Soulful. Simply Soulful Located on the South side of 23rd and Jackson. The location looks small but a large inside. A eating area sit to the right of where you order. Outdoor seating and there is available well as. A Television hangs on the wall showing various shows playing.. There's a Self served soda station and choices of Red Kool-aid, Southern Sweet Tea and lemonade. There's also a dessert case with Personal size Pecan Pice, Peach Cobbler, and verity of cakes. As I've stated before I have a horrible Seafood allergy so I often ask if the seafood is made with other fried foods. The cook state that she was make sure to change her glover, wash and sanitize there hands and everything before making my meal. I had the Chicken Wing Dinner with Mac and Cheese, Sweet Potatoes, and a side Collard Greens, and Cornbread. This meal really showcases the love and effort put into each dish. The fact that they ensured everything was prepared safely shows their dedication to customer satisfaction. There was a small wait maybe 15 mins but every item arrive hot. The chicken was well seasoned Sweet potatoes not overly sweet, the Mac and cheese was perfect made and the corn bread was made from scratch NOT a box. This was my first time trying Simply Soulful, but would definitely return. I was craving Biscuit & Gravy, which comes a biscuit and a thin mushroom gravy with meat bits. It was the perfect amount for me! Next time, I'll try the fried chicken and pies. Friends have said they enjoyed the sweet potato pie and pecan crumble! The parking lot is tiny and becomes full easily. However, I recently heard that Simply Soulful is moving to a larger space on the corner, so hopefully, there will be more parking. From the outside it looks kinda small and it's labeled as a cafe. However inside it's nice and spacious. The first thing I noticed was that it is super clean!! That's a plus for me. The young lady who took our order was super nice. She gave us some recommendations for what to order. We did a chicken and waffle and the combo dinner and two drinks. With tip it was mid $60's. I loved the interior decor- the paintings on the wall and I can imagine during the summer the garage doors are open with the outdoor seating. Our food came shortly after ordering. The wings were good. Clearly my eyes were bigger than my stomach!! The pork chop was great. Fries good. My only issue is the hush puppies lacked seasoning or I feel it was missing a dipping sauce. Overall we loved the space, the staff and the vibe. I also overheard the chef/cook give the kiddos extra food with their order. That was the best part of my visit. I have tried a couple of delicious soul food restaurants in the Seattle area, and I love trying the many different renditions of soul-comforting food in the area - Simply Soulful had everything I was looking for in the name, so we had to swing by to try it! We stopped by on a Wednesday around 6pm, placed our order, and seated ourselves. The atmosphere of the restaurant is inviting, it does feel like a cozy and warm place to enjoy some delicious southern food. There are many open tables around the time we visited and the service was good as there wasn't many other diners when we decided to try the restaurant. I wanted to try the most popular and classic southern comfort options, so I decided to get some fried chicken and the order that would get me the most variety. I got the combo dinner with rice and beans and hushpuppies, and this was a really filling dinner option as I had to take home some of it. The hushpuppies had a delicious cornmeal flavor, and the texture was the classic slightly grainy and pleasing mini-crunchiness, sort of like poppyseeds. The red beans and rice had a slight spiciness and a hearty spice and texture, it gave the nice pop of flavor in between the various fried items that I ordered. The fried chicken was hot and the crust had a nice crunch, but for me personally, I felt that it lack a bit in just flavor - I wished that there was something that would give the chicken a pop, like a sauce (since it did get dry at times) or just more seasoning in the batter. So I opted to use the hot sauce from the condiments provided at the table. I thought the catfish was my favorite out of all the fried options on the combo plate, it was tender and juicy, and the breading was thin and crispy. In the end, I spent about $23 for the Combo and $10 for the pieces of fried chicken, which I thought was a decent price given the amount of food I received. Though next time I visit, I'd probably try a different side from hushpuppies like collard greens or grits to pop or cleanse the palate, and the dessert options on the menu also looked like yummy options that I would love to try. Had breakfast here on a Sunday. Of course, I tried the chicken and waffles. The waffle was great. The chicken could use more seasoning, but was not over cooked. My husband ordered chicken and grits. He agreed that the chicken could really use a bit more seasoning. The grits were wonderful. The mimosa was well done, as the on was smooth (fresh squeezed?). The restaurant has moved to this new location which provides an open floor plan. There is a small lounge area upstairs, but not a dining area. My one ambiance complaint was that the Seahawks' game was on the television with the sound on. At some point, the sound system which seemed to be an online radio station was turned on. So, there was too much noise in the space. The television is small, so this would not be a normal spot to watch a game, but it was nice to have the game visible. Sound is not needed. Finally, our order was delivered without delay. The wait was small and reasonable. Staff were cleaning tables and greeting customers. I think the new location is a winner.
